[YA]: and spend something (in charity) out of the substance which We have bestowed on you, before Death should come to any of you and he should say, "O my Lord! why didst Thou not give me respite for a little while? I should then have given (largely) in charity, and I should have been one of the doers of good". [RK]:You shall give from our provisions to you before death comes to you, then you say, "My Lord, if only You could delay this for a short while! I would then be charitable and join the righteous!" | ||||

[YA]: They will further say: "Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we should not (now) be among the Companions of the Blazing Fire!" [RK]:They also say, "If we heard or understood, we would not be among the dwellers of Hell!" | ||||

[YA]: Their desire is that thou shouldst be pliant: so would they be pliant. [RK]:They wish that you compromise, so they too can compromise. | ||||

[YA]: Said one of them, more just (than the rest): "Did I not say to you, 'Why not glorify (Allah)?'" [RK]:The righteous among them said, "If only you had glorified (God)!" | ||||

[YA]: Such is the Punishment (in this life); but greater is the Punishment in the Hereafter,- if only they knew! [RK]:Such was the requital. But the retribution of the Hereafter is far worse, if they only knew. | ||||

[YA]: Had not Grace from his Lord reached him, he would indeed have been cast off on the naked shore, in disgrace. [RK]:If it were not for his Lord's grace, he would have been ejected into the desert as a sinner. | ||||

[YA]: And if the messenger were to invent any sayings in Our name, [RK]:Had he uttered any other teachings. | ||||

[YA]: Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, [RK]:When they see them, the guilty will wish he could give his own children as ransom, to spare him the retribution of that day. | ||||

[YA]: "So He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a stated Term: for when the Term given by Allah is accomplished, it cannot be put forward: if ye only knew." [RK]:"He will then forgive you your sins and respite you for a predetermined period. Most assuredly, GOD's appointment can never be delayed, once it is due, if you only knew." | ||||

[YA]: Even though he were to put up his excuses. [RK]:No excuses will be accepted. | ||||
