[YA]: Do ye enjoin right conduct on the people, and forget (To practise it) yourselves, and yet ye study the Scripture? Will ye not understand? [RK]:Do you exhort the people to be righteous, while forgetting yourselves, though you read the scripture? Do you not understand?
2 | [2:73] Line:80 |
| ||
[YA]: So We said: "Strike the (body) with a piece of the (heifer)." Thus Allah bringeth the dead to life and showeth you His Signs: Perchance ye may understand. [RK]:We said, "Strike (the victim) with part (of the heifer)." That is when GOD brought the victim back to life, and showed you His signs, that you may understand.
3 | [2:75] Line:82 |
| ||
[YA]: Can ye (o ye men of Faith) entertain the hope that they will believe in you?- Seeing that a party of them heard the Word of Allah, and perverted it knowingly after they understood it. [RK]:Do you expect them to believe as you do, when some of them used to hear the word of GOD, then distort it, with full understanding thereof, and deliberately?
4 | [2:76] Line:83 |
| ||
[YA]: Behold! when they meet the men of Faith, they say: "We believe": But when they meet each other in private, they say: "Shall you tell them what Allah hath revealed to you, that they may engage you in argument about it before your Lord?"- Do ye not understand (their aim)? [RK]:And when they meet the believers, they say, "We believe," but when they get together with each other, they say, "Do not inform (the believers) of the information given to you by GOD, lest you provide them with support for their argument concerning your Lord. Do you not understand?"
5 | [2:164] Line:171 |
| ||
[YA]: Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of the ships through the ocean for the profit of mankind; in the rain which Allah Sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds which they Trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth;- (Here) indeed are Signs for a people that are wise. [RK]:In the creation of the heavens and the earth, the alternation of night and day, the ships that roam the ocean for the benefit of the people, the water that GOD sends down from the sky to revive dead land and to spread in it all kinds of creatures, the manipulation of the winds, and the clouds that are placed between the sky and the earth, there are sufficient proofs for people who understand.
6 | [2:170] Line:177 |
| ||
[YA]: When it is said to them: "Follow what Allah hath revealed:" They say: "Nay! we shall follow the ways of our fathers." What! even though their fathers Were void of wisdom and guidance? [RK]:When they are told, "Follow what GOD has revealed herein," they say, "We follow only what we found our parents doing." What if their parents did not understand, and were not guided?
7 | [2:171] Line:178 |
| ||
[YA]: The parable of those who reject Faith is as if one were to shout Like a goat-herd, to things that listen to nothing but calls and cries: Deaf, dumb, and blind, they are void of wisdom. [RK]:The example of such disbelievers is that of parrots who repeat what they hear of sounds and calls, without understanding. Deaf, dumb, and blind; they cannot understand.
8 | [2:242] Line:249 |
| ||
[YA]: Thus doth Allah Make clear His Signs to you: In order that ye may understand. [RK]:GOD thus explains His revelations for you, that you may understand.
9 | [3:65] Line:358 |
| ||
[YA]: Ye People of the Book! Why dispute ye about Abraham, when the Law and the Gospel Were not revealed Till after him? Have ye no understanding? [RK]:O followers of the scripture, why do you argue about Abraham, when the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until after him? Do you not understand?
10 | [3:118] Line:411 |
| ||
[YA]: O ye who believe! Take not into your intimacy those outside your ranks: They will not fail to corrupt you. They only desire your ruin: Rank hatred has already appeared from their mouths: What their hearts conceal is far worse. We have made plain to you the Signs, if ye have wisdom. [RK]:O you who believe, do not befriend outsiders who never cease to wish you harm; they even wish to see you suffer. Hatred flows out of their mouths and what they hide in their chests is far worse. We thus clarify the revelations for you, if you understand.
11 | [5:58] Line:727 |
| ||
[YA]: When ye proclaim your call to prayer they take it (but) as mockery and sport; that is because they are a people without understanding. [RK]:When you call to the Contact Prayers (Salat), they mock and ridicule it. This is because they are people who do not understand.
12 | [5:103] Line:772 |
| ||
[YA]: It was not Allah who instituted (superstitions like those of) a slit-ear she-camel, or a she-camel let loose for free pasture, or idol sacrifices for twin-births in animals, or stallion-camels freed from work: It is blasphemers who invent a lie against Allah; but most of them lack wisdom. [RK]:GOD did not prohibit livestock that begets certain combinations of males and females, nor livestock liberated by an oath, nor the one that begets two males in a row, nor the bull that fathers ten. It is the disbelievers who invented such lies about GOD. Most of them do not understand.
13 | [6:32] Line:821 |
| ||
[YA]: What is the life of this world but play and amusement? But best is the home in the hereafter, for those who are righteous. Will ye not then understand? [RK]:The life of this world is no more than illusion and vanity, while the abode of the Hereafter is far better for the righteous. Do you not understand?!
14 | [6:151] Line:940 |
| ||
[YA]: Say: "Come, I will rehearse what Allah hath (really) prohibited you from": Join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents; kill not your children on a plea of want;- We provide sustenance for you and for them;- come not nigh to shameful deeds. Whether open or secret; take not life, which Allah hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus doth He command you, that ye may learn wisdom. [RK]:Say, "Come let me tell you what your Lord has really prohibited for you: You shall not set up idols besides Him. You shall honor your parents. You shall not kill your children from fear of poverty - we provide for you and for them. You shall not commit gross sins, obvious or hidden. You shall not kill - GOD has made life sacred - except in the course of justice. These are His commandments to you, that you may understand."
15 | [7:169] Line:1123 |
| ||
[YA]: After them succeeded an (evil) generation: They inherited the Book, but they chose (for themselves) the vanities of this world, saying (for excuse): "(Everything) will be forgiven us." (Even so), if similar vanities came their way, they would (again) seize them. Was not the covenant of the Book taken from them, that they would not ascribe to Allah anything but the truth? and they study what is in the Book. But best for the righteous is the home in the Hereafter. Will ye not understand? [RK]:Subsequent to them, He substituted new generations who inherited the scripture. But they opted for the worldly life instead, saying, "We will be forgiven." But then they continued to opt for the materials of this world. Did they not make a covenant to uphold the scripture, and not to say about GOD except the truth? Did they not study the scripture? Certainly, the abode of the Hereafter is far better for those who maintain righteousness. Do you not understand?
16 | [8:22] Line:1182 |
| ||
[YA]: For the worst of beasts in the sight of Allah are the deaf and the dumb,- those who understand not. [RK]:The worst creatures in the sight of GOD are the deaf and dumb, who do not understand.
17 | [10:16] Line:1380 |
| ||
[YA]: Say: "If Allah had so willed, I should not have rehearsed it to you, nor would He have made it known to you. A whole life-time before this have I tarried amongst you: will ye not then understand?" [RK]:Say, "Had GOD willed, I would not have recited it to you, nor would you have known anything about it. I have lived among you a whole life before this (and you have known me as a sane, truthful person). Do you not understand?"
18 | [10:42] Line:1406 |
| ||
[YA]: Among them are some who (pretend to) listen to thee: But canst thou make the deaf to hear,- even though they are without understanding? [RK]:Some of them listen to you, but can you make the deaf hear, even though they cannot understand?
19 | [10:100] Line:1464 |
| ||
[YA]: No soul can believe, except by the will of Allah, and He will place doubt (or obscurity) on those who will not understand. [RK]:No soul can believe except in accordance with GOD's will. For He places a curse upon those who refuse to understand.
20 | [11:51] Line:1524 |
| ||
[YA]: "O my people! I ask of you no reward for this (Message). My reward is from none but Him who created me: Will ye not then understand? [RK]:O my people, I do not ask you for any wage. My wage comes only from the One who initiated me. Do you not understand?
21 | [12:2] Line:1598 |
| ||
[YA]: We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an, in order that ye may learn wisdom. [RK]:We have revealed it an Arabic Quran, that you may understand.
22 | [12:109] Line:1705 |
| ||
[YA]: Nor did We send before thee (as messengers) any but men, whom we did inspire,- (men) living in human habitations. Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? But the home of the hereafter is best, for those who do right. Will ye not then understand? [RK]:We did not send before you except men whom we inspired, chosen from the people of various communities. Did they not roam the earth and see the consequences for those before them? The abode of the Hereafter is far better for those who lead a righteous life. Would you then understand?
23 | [13:4] Line:1711 |
| ||
[YA]: And in the earth are tracts (diverse though) neighbouring, and gardens of vines and fields sown with corn, and palm trees - growing out of single roots or otherwise: watered with the same water, yet some of them We make more excellent than others to eat. Behold, verily in these things there are signs for those who understand! [RK]:On earth, there are adjacent lots that produce orchards of grapes, crops, palm trees - dioecious and non-dioecious. Although they are irrigated with the same water, we prefer some of them over others in eating. These are solid proofs for people who understand.
24 | [16:12] Line:1913 |
| ||
[YA]: He has made subject to you the Night and the Day; the sun and the moon; and the stars are in subjection by His Command: verily in this are Signs for men who are wise. [RK]:And He commits, in your service, the night and the day, as well as the sun and the moon. Also, the stars are committed by His command. These are (sufficient) proofs for people who understand.
25 | [16:67] Line:1968 |
| ||
[YA]: And from the fruit of the date-palm and the vine, ye get out wholesome drink and food: behold, in this also is a sign for those who are wise. [RK]:And from the fruits of date palms and grapes you produce intoxicants, as well as good provisions. This should be (sufficient) proof for people who understand.
26 | [21:10] Line:2493 |
| ||
[YA]: We have revealed for you (O men!) a book in which is a Message for you: will ye not then understand? [RK]:We have sent down to you a scripture containing your message. Do you not understand?
27 | [21:67] Line:2550 |
| ||
[YA]: "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. [RK]:"You have incurred shame by worshipping idols beside GOD. Do you not understand?"
28 | [22:46] Line:2641 |
| ||
[YA]: Do they not travel through the land, so that their hearts (and minds) may thus learn wisdom and their ears may thus learn to hear? Truly it is not their eyes that are blind, but their hearts which are in their breasts. [RK]:Did they not roam the earth, then use their minds to understand, and use their ears to hear? Indeed, the real blindness is not the blindness of the eyes, but the blindness of the hearts inside the chests.
29 | [23:80] Line:2753 |
| ||
[YA]: It is He Who gives life and death, and to Him (is due) the alternation of Night and Day: will ye not then understand? [RK]:He is the One who controls life and death, and He is the One who alternates the night and day. Do you not understand?
30 | [24:61] Line:2852 |
| ||
[YA]: It is no fault in the blind nor in one born lame, nor in one afflicted with illness, nor in yourselves, that ye should eat in your own houses, or those of your fathers, or your mothers, or your brothers, or your sisters, or your father's brothers or your father's sisters, or your mohter's brothers, or your mother's sisters, or in houses of which the keys are in your possession, or in the house of a sincere friend of yours: there is no blame on you, whether ye eat in company or separately. But if ye enter houses, salute each other - a greeting of blessing and purity as from Allah. Thus does Allah make clear the signs to you: that ye may understand. [RK]:The blind is not to be blamed, the crippled is not to be blamed, nor is the handicapped to be blamed, just as you are not to be blamed for eating at your homes, or the homes of your fathers, or the homes of your mothers, or the homes of your brothers, or the homes of your sisters, or the homes of your fathers' brothers, or the homes of your fathers' sisters, or the homes of your mothers' brothers, or the homes of your mothers' sisters, or the homes that belong to you and you possess their keys, or the homes of your friends. You commit nothing wrong by eating together or as individuals. When you enter any home, you shall greet each other a greeting from GOD that is blessed and good. GOD thus explains the revelations for you, that you may understand.
31 | [25:44] Line:2899 |
| ||
[YA]: Or thinkest thou that most of them listen or understand? They are only like cattle;- nay, they are worse astray in Path. [RK]:Do you think that most of them hear, or understand? They are just like animals; no, they are far worse.
32 | [26:28] Line:2960 |
| ||
[YA]: (Moses) said: "Lord of the East and the West, and all between! if ye only had sense!" [RK]:He said, "The Lord of the east and the west, and everything between them, if you understand."
33 | [28:60] Line:3312 |
| ||
[YA]: The (material) things which ye are given are but the conveniences of this life and the glitter thereof; but that which is with Allah is better and more enduring: will ye not then be wise? [RK]:Everything that is given to you is only the material of this life, and its vanity. What is with GOD is far better, and everlasting. Do you not understand?
34 | [29:35] Line:3375 |
| ||
[YA]: And We have left thereof an evident Sign, for any people who (care to) understand. [RK]:We left standing some of their ruins, to serve as a profound lesson for people who understand.
35 | [29:43] Line:3383 |
| ||
[YA]: And such are the Parables We set forth for mankind, but only those understand them who have knowledge. [RK]:We cite these examples for the people, and none appreciate them except the knowledgeable.
36 | [29:63] Line:3403 |
| ||
[YA]: And if indeed thou ask them who it is that sends down rain from the sky, and gives life therewith to the earth after its death, they will certainly reply, "Allah!" Say, "Praise be to Allah!" But most of them understand not. [RK]:If you ask them, "Who sends down from the sky water, to revive dead land," they will say, "GOD." Say, "Praise GOD." Most of them do not understand.
37 | [30:24] Line:3433 |
| ||
[YA]: And among His Signs, He shows you the lightning, by way both of fear and of hope, and He sends down rain from the sky and with it gives life to the earth after it is dead: verily in that are Signs for those who are wise. [RK]:Among His proofs is that He shows you the lightning as a source of fear, as well as hope, then He sends down from the sky water to revive a land that has been dead. In these, there are sufficient proofs for people who understand.
38 | [30:28] Line:3437 |
| ||
[YA]: He does propound to you a similitude from your own (experience): do ye have partners among those whom your right hands possess, to share as equals in the wealth We have bestowed on you? Do ye fear them as ye fear each other? Thus do we explain the Signs in detail to a people that understand. [RK]:He cites for you herein an example from among yourselves: Do you ever elevate your servants or subordinates to the level where they rival you, and to the point that you pay them as much allegiance as is being paid to you? We thus explain the revelations for people who understand.
39 | [36:62] Line:3767 |
| ||
[YA]: "But he did lead astray a great multitude of you. Did ye not, then, understand? [RK]:He has misled multitudes of you. Did you not possess any understanding?
40 | [36:68] Line:3773 |
| ||
[YA]: If We grant long life to any, We cause him to be reversed in nature: Will they not then understand? [RK]:Whomever we permit to live for a long time, we revert him to weakness. Do they not understand?

| ||
[YA]: And by night: will ye not understand? [RK]:And by night. Would you understand?
42 | [39:43] Line:4101 |

[YA]: What! Do they take for intercessors others besides Allah? Say: "Even if they have no power whatever and no intelligence?" [RK]:Have they invented intercessors to mediate between them and GOD? Say, "What if they do not possess any power, nor understanding?"
43 | [40:67] Line:4200 |
| ||
[YA]: It is He Who has created you from dust then from a sperm-drop, then from a leech-like clot; then does he get you out (into the light) as a child: then lets you (grow and) reach your age of full strength; then lets you become old,- though of you there are some who die before;- and lets you reach a Term appointed; in order that ye may learn wisdom. [RK]:He is the One who created you from dust, and subsequently from a tiny drop, then from a hanging embryo, then He brings you out as a child, then He lets you reach maturity, then you become old - some of you die earlier. You attain a predetermined age, that you may understand.
44 | [43:3] Line:4328 |
| ||
[YA]: We have made it a Qur'an in Arabic, that ye may be able to understand (and learn wisdom). [RK]:We have rendered it an Arabic Quran, that you may understand.
45 | [45:5] Line:4478 |
| ||
[YA]: And in the alternation of Night and Day, and the fact that Allah sends down Sustenance from the sky, and revives therewith the earth after its death, and in the change of the winds,- are Signs for those that are wise. [RK]:Also, the alternation of the night and the day, and the provisions that GOD sends down from the sky to revive dead lands, and the manipulation of the winds; all these are proofs for people who understand.

| ||
[YA]: Know ye (all) that Allah giveth life to the earth after its death! already have We shown the Signs plainly to you, that ye may learn wisdom. [RK]:Know that GOD revives the land after it had died. We thus explain the revelations for you, that you may understand.
48 | [59:14] Line:5140 |
| ||
[YA]: They will not fight you (even) together, except in fortified townships, or from behind walls. Strong is their fighting (spirit) amongst themselves: thou wouldst think they were united, but their hearts are divided: that is because they are a people devoid of wisdom. [RK]:They do not get together to fight you unless they are in well-shielded buildings, or behind walls. Their might appears formidable among themselves. You would think that they are united, when in fact their hearts are divided. This is because they are people who do not understand.
49 | [67:10] Line:5251 |
| ||
[YA]: They will further say: "Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we should not (now) be among the Companions of the Blazing Fire!" [RK]:They also say, "If we heard or understood, we would not be among the dwellers of Hell!"
