Kayfa takfuroona biAllahiwakuntum amwatan faahyakum thumma yumeetukumthumma yuhyeekum thumma ilayhi turjaAAoona

كيف تكفرون بالله وكنتم امواتا فاحياكم ثم يميتكم ثم يحييكم ثم اليه ترجعون

[YA]: How can ye reject the faith in Allah?- seeing that ye were without life, and He gave you life; then will He cause you to die, and will again bring you to life; and again to Him will ye return.

[RK]:How can you disbelieve in GOD when you were dead and He gave you life, then He puts you to death, then He brings you back to life, then to Him you ultimately return?

Thumma antum haola-itaqtuloona anfusakum watukhrijoona fareeqan minkum min diyarihimtathaharoona AAalayhim bial-ithmi waalAAudwaniwa-in ya/tookum osara tufadoohum wahuwa muharramunAAalaykum ikhrajuhum afatu/minoona bibaAAdi alkitabiwatakfuroona bibaAAdin fama jazao manyafAAalu thalika minkum illa khizyun fee alhayatialddunya wayawma alqiyamati yuraddoona ilaashaddi alAAathabi wama Allahu bighafilinAAamma taAAmaloona

ثم انتم هؤلاء تقتلون انفسكم وتخرجون فريقا منكم من ديارهم تظاهرون عليهم بالاثم والعدوان وان ياتوكم اساري تفادوهم وهو محرم عليكم اخراجهم افتؤمنون ببعض الكتاب وتكفرون ببعض فما جزاء من يفعل ذلك منكم الا خزي في الحياة الدنيا ويوم القيامة يردون الي اشد العذاب وما الله بغافل عما تعملون

[YA]: After this it is ye, the same people, who slay among yourselves, and banish a party of you from their homes; assist (Their enemies) against them, in guilt and rancour; and if they come to you as captives, ye ransom them, though it was not lawful for you to banish them. Then is it only a part of the Book that ye believe in, and do ye reject the rest? but what is the reward for those among you who behave like this but disgrace in this life?- and on the Day of Judgment they shall be consigned to the most grievous penalty. For Allah is not unmindful of what ye do.

[RK]:Yet, here you are killing each other, and evicting some of you from their homes, banding against them sinfully and maliciously. Even when they surrendered, you demanded ransom from them. Evicting them was prohibited for you in the first place. Do you believe in part of the scripture and disbelieve in part? What should be the retribution for those among you who do this, except humiliation in this life, and a far worse retribution on the Day of Resurrection? GOD is never unaware of anything you do.

Ola-ika allatheena ishtarawooalhayata alddunya bial-akhiratifala yukhaffafu AAanhumu alAAathabu wala humyunsaroona

اولئك الذين اشتروا الحياة الدنيا بالاخرة فلا يخفف عنهم العذاب ولاهم ينصرون

[YA]: These are the people who buy the life of this world at the price of the Hereafter: their penalty shall not be lightened nor shall they be helped.

[RK]:It is they who bought this lowly life at the expense of the Hereafter. Consequently, the retribution is never commuted for them, nor can they be helped.

Walatajidannahum ahrasa alnnasiAAala hayatin wamina allatheenaashrakoo yawaddu ahaduhum law yuAAammaru alfa sanatin wamahuwa bimuzahzihihi mina alAAathabi anyuAAammara waAllahu baseerun bimayaAAmaloona

ولتجدنهم احرص الناس علي حياة ومن الذين اشركوا يود احدهم لو يعمر الف سنة وماهو بمزحزحه من العذاب ان يعمر والله بصير بما يعملون

[YA]: Thou wilt indeed find them, of all people, most greedy of life,-even more than the idolaters: Each one of them wishes He could be given a life of a thousand years: But the grant of such life will not save him from (due) punishment. For Allah sees well all that they do.

[RK]:In fact, you will find them the most covetous of life; even more so than the idol worshipers. The one of them wishes to live a thousand years. But this will not spare him any retribution, no matter how long he lives. GOD is seer of everything they do.

Wala taqooloo liman yuqtalu feesabeeli Allahi amwatun bal ahyaon walakinla tashAAuroona

ولاتقولوا لمن يقتل في سبيل الله اموات بل احياء ولكن لاتشعرون

[YA]: And say not of those who are slain in the way of Allah: "They are dead." Nay, they are living, though ye perceive (it) not.

[RK]:Do not say of those who are killed in the cause of GOD, "They are dead." They are alive at their Lord, but you do not perceive.

Inna fee khalqi alssamawatiwaal-ardi waikhtilafi allayli waalnnahariwaalfulki allatee tajree fee albahri bimayanfaAAu alnnasa wama anzala Allahumina alssama-i min ma-in faahyabihi al-arda baAAda mawtiha wabaththa feehamin kulli dabbatin watasreefi alrriyahiwaalssahabi almusakhkhari bayna alssama-iwaal-ardi laayatin liqawminyaAAqiloona

ان في خلق السماوات والارض واختلاف الليل والنهار والفلك التي تجري في البحر بما ينفع الناس وماانزل الله من السماء من ماء فاحيا به الارض بعد موتها وبث فيها من كل دابة وتصريف الرياح والسحاب المسخر بين السماء والارض لايات لقوم يعقلون

[YA]: Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of the ships through the ocean for the profit of mankind; in the rain which Allah Sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds which they Trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth;- (Here) indeed are Signs for a people that are wise.

[RK]:In the creation of the heavens and the earth, the alternation of night and day, the ships that roam the ocean for the benefit of the people, the water that GOD sends down from the sky to revive dead land and to spread in it all kinds of creatures, the manipulation of the winds, and the clouds that are placed between the sky and the earth, there are sufficient proofs for people who understand.

Walakum fee alqisasi hayatunya olee al-albabi laAAallakum tattaqoona

ولكم في القصاص حياة ياولي الالباب لعلكم تتقون

[YA]: In the Law of Equality there is (saving of) Life to you, o ye men of understanding; that ye may restrain yourselves.

[RK]:Equivalence is a life saving law for you, O you who possess intelligence, that you may be righteous.

Wamina alnnasi man yuAAjibukaqawluhu fee alhayati alddunyawayushhidu Allaha AAala ma fee qalbihiwahuwa aladdu alkhisami

ومن الناس من يعجبك قوله في الحياة الدنيا ويشهد الله علي مافي قلبه وهو الد الخصام

[YA]: There is the type of man whose speech about this world's life May dazzle thee, and he calls Allah to witness about what is in his heart; yet is he the most contentious of enemies.

[RK]:Among the people, one may impress you with his utterances concerning this life, and may even call upon GOD to witness his innermost thoughts, while he is a most ardent opponent.

Zuyyina lillatheena kafaroo alhayatualddunya wayaskharoona mina allatheena amanoowaallatheena ittaqaw fawqahum yawma alqiyamatiwaAllahu yarzuqu man yashao bighayri hisabin

زين للذين كفروا الحياة الدنيا ويسخرون من الذين امنوا والذين اتقوا فوقهم يوم القيامة والله يرزق من يشاء بغير حساب

[YA]: The life of this world is alluring to those who reject faith, and they scoff at those who believe. But the righteous will be above them on the Day of Resurrection; for Allah bestows His abundance without measure on whom He will.

[RK]:This worldly life is adorned in the eyes of the disbelievers, and they ridicule those who believe. However, the righteous will be far above them on the Day of Resurrection. GOD blesses whomever He wills, without limits.

Alam tara ila allatheenakharajoo min diyarihim wahum oloofun hatharaalmawti faqala lahumu Allahu mootoo thumma ahyahuminna Allaha lathoo fadlin AAala alnnasiwalakinna akthara alnnasi layashkuroona

الم تر الي الذين خرجوا من ديارهم وهم الوف حذر الموت فقال لهم الله موتوا ثم احياهم ان الله لذو فضل علي الناس ولكن اكثر الناس لايشكرون

[YA]: Didst thou not Turn by vision to those who abandoned their homes, though they were thousands (In number), for fear of death? Allah said to them: "Die": Then He restored them to life. For Allah is full of bounty to mankind, but Most of them are ungrateful.

[RK]:Have you noted those who fled their homes - though they were in the thousands - fearing death? GOD said to them, "Die," then revived them. GOD showers His grace upon the people, but most people are unappreciative.

Zuyyina lilnnasi hubbualshshahawati mina alnnisa-i waalbaneenawaalqanateeri almuqantarati mina alththahabiwaalfiddati waalkhayli almusawwamati waal-anAAamiwaalharthi thalika mataAAu alhayatialddunya waAllahu AAindahu husnualmaabi

زين للناس حب الشهوات من النساء والبنين والقناطير المقنطرة من الذهب والفضة والخيل المسومة والانعام والحرث ذلك متاع الحياة الدنيا والله عنده حسن الماب

[YA]: Fair in the eyes of men is the love of things they covet: Women and sons; Heaped-up hoards of gold and silver; horses branded (for blood and excellence); and (wealth of) cattle and well-tilled land. Such are the possessions of this world's life; but in nearness to Allah is the best of the goals (To return to).

[RK]:Adorned for the people are the worldly pleasures, such as the women, having children, piles upon piles of gold and silver, trained horses, livestock, and crops. These are the materials of this world. A far better abode is reserved at GOD.

Mathalu ma yunfiqoona fee hathihialhayati alddunya kamathali reehinfeeha sirrun asabat hartha qawmin thalamooanfusahum faahlakat-hu wama thalamahumu Allahuwalakin anfusahum yathlimoona

مثل ماينفقون في هذه الحياة الدنيا كمثل ريح فيها صر اصابت حرث قوم ظلموا انفسهم فاهلكته وماظلمهم الله ولكن انفسهم يظلمون

[YA]: What they spend in the life of this (material) world May be likened to a wind which brings a nipping frost: It strikes and destroys the harvest of men who have wronged their own souls: it is not Allah that hath wronged them, but they wrong themselves.

[RK]:The example of their accomplishments in this life is like a violent wind that hits the harvest of people who have wronged their souls, and wipes it out. GOD never wronged them; it is they who wronged themselves.

Wala tahsabanna allatheenaqutiloo fee sabeeli Allahi amwatan bal ahyaonAAinda rabbihim yurzaqoona

ولاتحسبن الذين قتلوا في سبيل الله امواتا بل احياء عند ربهم يرزقون

[YA]: Think not of those who are slain in Allah's way as dead. Nay, they live, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord;

[RK]:Do not think that those who are killed in the cause of GOD are dead; they are alive at their Lord, enjoying His provisions.

Kullu nafsin tha-iqatu almawtiwa-innama tuwaffawna ojoorakum yawma alqiyamatifaman zuhziha AAani alnnari waodkhilaaljannata faqad faza wama alhayatu alddunyailla mataAAu alghuroori

كل نفس ذائقة الموت وانما توفون اجوركم يوم القيامة فمن زحزح عن النار وادخل الجنة فقد فاز وماالحياة الدنيا الا متاع الغرور

[YA]: Every soul shall have a taste of death: And only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object (of Life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception.

[RK]:Every person tastes death, then you receive your recompense on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever misses Hell, barely, and makes it to Paradise, has attained a great triumph. The life of this world is no more than an illusion.

Falyuqatil fee sabeeli Allahiallatheena yashroona alhayata alddunyabial-akhirati waman yuqatil fee sabeeli Allahifayuqtal aw yaghlib fasawfa nu/teehi ajran AAatheeman

فليقاتل في سبيل الله الذين يشرون الحياة الدنيا بالاخرة ومن يقاتل في سبيل الله فيقتل او يغلب فسوف نؤتيه اجرا عظيما

[YA]: Let those fight in the cause of Allah Who sell the life of this world for the hereafter. To him who fighteth in the cause of Allah,- whether he is slain or gets victory - Soon shall We give him a reward of great (value).

[RK]:Those who readily fight in the cause of GOD are those who forsake this world in favor of the Hereafter. Whoever fights in the cause of GOD, then gets killed, or attains victory, we will surely grant him a great recompense.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooitha darabtum fee sabeeli Allahifatabayyanoo wala taqooloo liman alqa ilaykumu alssalamalasta mu/minan tabtaghoona AAarada alhayatialddunya faAAinda Allahi maghanimukatheeratun kathalika kuntum min qablu famanna AllahuAAalaykum fatabayyanoo inna Allaha kana bimataAAmaloona khabeeran

ياايها الذين امنوا اذا ضربتم في سبيل الله فتبينوا ولاتقولوا لمن القي اليكم السلام لست مؤمنا تبتغون عرض الحياة الدنيا فعند الله مغانم كثيرة كذلك كنتم من قبل فمن الله عليكم فتبينوا ان الله كان بما تعملون خبيرا

[YA]: O ye who believe! When ye go abroad in the cause of Allah, investigate carefully, and say not to any one who offers you a salutation: "Thou art none of a believer!" Coveting the perishable goods of this life: with Allah are profits and spoils abundant. Even thus were ye yourselves before, till Allah conferred on you His favours: Therefore carefully investigate. For Allah is well aware of all that ye do.

[RK]:O you who believe, if you strike in the cause of GOD, you shall be absolutely sure. Do not say to one who offers you peace, "You are not a believer," seeking the spoils of this world. For GOD possesses infinite spoils. Remember that you used to be like them, and GOD blessed you. Therefore, you shall be absolutely sure (before you strike). GOD is fully Cognizant of everything you do.

Haantum haola-i jadaltumAAanhum fee alhayati alddunya famanyujadilu Allaha AAanhum yawma alqiyamati amman yakoonu AAalayhim wakeelan

هاانتم هؤلاء جادلتم عنهم في الحياة الدنيا فمن يجادل الله عنهم يوم القيامة ام من يكون عليهم وكيلا

[YA]: Ah! These are the sort of men on whose behalf ye may contend in this world; but who will contend with Allah on their behalf on the Day of Judgment, or who will carry their affairs through?

[RK]:Here you are arguing on their behalf in this world; who is going to argue with GOD on their behalf on the Day of Resurrection? Who is going to be their advocate?

Min ajli thalika katabna AAalabanee isra-eela annahu man qatala nafsan bighayri nafsinaw fasadin fee al-ardi fakaannama qatala alnnasajameeAAan waman ahyaha fakaannama ahyaalnnasa jameeAAan walaqad jaat-hum rusulunabialbayyinati thumma inna katheeran minhum baAAda thalikafee al-ardi lamusrifoona

من اجل ذلك كتبنا علي بني اسرائيل انه من قتل نفسا بغير نفس او فسادفي الارض فكانما قتل الناس جميعا ومن احياها فكانما احيا الناس جميعا ولقد جاءتهم رسلنا بالبينات ثم ان كثيرا منهم بعد ذلك في الارض لمسرفون

[YA]: On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our messengers with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land.

[RK]:Because of this, we decreed for the Children of Israel that anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people. And anyone who spares a life, it shall be as if he spared the lives of all the people. Our messengers went to them with clear proofs and revelations, but most of them, after all this, are still transgressing.

وقالوا ان هي الا حياتنا الدنيا ومانحن بمبعوثين

[YA]: And they (sometimes) say: "There is nothing except our life on this earth, and never shall we be raised up again."

[RK]:They say (subconsciously), "We live only this life; we will not be resurrected."

Wama alhayatu alddunyailla laAAibun walahwun walalddaru al-akhiratikhayrun lillatheena yattaqoona afala taAAqiloona

وماالحياة الدنيا الا لعب ولهو وللدار الاخرة خير للذين يتقون افلا تعقلون

[YA]: What is the life of this world but play and amusement? But best is the home in the hereafter, for those who are righteous. Will ye not then understand?

[RK]:The life of this world is no more than illusion and vanity, while the abode of the Hereafter is far better for the righteous. Do you not understand?!

Wathari allatheena ittakhathoodeenahum laAAiban walahwan wagharrat-humu alhayatualddunya wathakkir bihi an tubsala nafsunbima kasabat laysa laha min dooni Allahiwaliyyun wala shafeeAAun wa-in taAAdil kulla AAadlin layu/khath minha ola-ika allatheenaobsiloo bima kasaboo lahum sharabun min hameeminwaAAathabun aleemun bima kanoo yakfuroona

وذر الذين اتخذوا دينهم لعبا ولهوا وغرتهم الحياة الدنيا وذكر به ان تبسل نفس بما كسبت ليس لها من دون الله ولي ولاشفيع وان تعدل كل عدل لايؤخذ منها اولئك الذين ابسلوا بما كسبوا لهم شراب من حميم وعذاب اليم بما كانوا يكفرون

[YA]: Leave alone those who take their religion to be mere play and amusement, and are deceived by the life of this world. But proclaim (to them) this (truth): that every soul delivers itself to ruin by its own acts: it will find for itself no protector or intercessor except Allah: if it offered every ransom, (or reparation), none will be accepted: such is (the end of) those who deliver themselves to ruin by their own acts: they will have for drink (only) boiling water, and for punishment, one most grievous: for they persisted in rejecting Allah.

[RK]:You shall disregard those who take their religion in vain, as if it is a social function, and are totally absorbed in this worldly life. Remind with this (Quran), lest a soul may suffer the consequences of its evil earnings. It has none beside GOD as a Lord and Master, nor an intercessor. If it could offer any kind of ransom, it would not be accepted. They suffer the consequences of the evil works they earn; they have incurred hellish drinks, and a painful retribution because of their disbelief.

Ya maAAshara aljinni waal-insialam ya/tikum rusulun minkum yaqussoona AAalaykum ayateewayunthiroonakum liqaa yawmikum hatha qalooshahidna AAala anfusina wagharrat-humu alhayatualddunya washahidoo AAala anfusihim annahumkanoo kafireena

يامعشر الجن والانس الم ياتكم رسل منكم يقصون عليكم اياتي وينذرونكم لقاء يومكم هذا قالوا شهدنا علي انفسنا وغرتهم الحياة الدنيا وشهدوا علي انفسهم انهم كانوا كافرين

[YA]: "O ye assembly of Jinns and men! came there not unto you messengers from amongst you, setting forth unto you My signs, and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?" They will say: "We bear witness against ourselves." It was the life of this world that deceived them. So against themselves will they bear witness that they rejected Faith.

[RK]:O you jinns and humans, did you not receive messengers from among you, who narrated to you My revelations, and warned you about the meeting of this day? They will say, "We bear witness against ourselves." They were totally preoccupied with the worldly life, and they will bear witness against themselves that they were disbelievers.

Qul inna salatee wanusukeewamahyaya wamamatee lillahi rabbialAAalameena

قل ان صلاتي ونسكي ومحياي ومماتي لله رب العالمين

[YA]: Say: "Truly, my prayer and my service of sacrifice, my life and my death, are (all) for Allah, the Cherisher of the Worlds:

[RK]:Say, "My Contact Prayers (Salat), my worship practices, my life and my death, are all devoted absolutely to GOD alone, the Lord of the universe.

Qul man harrama zeenata Allahiallatee akhraja liAAibadihi waalttayyibatimina alrrizqi qul hiya lillatheena amanoofee alhayati alddunya khalisatanyawma alqiyamati kathalika nufassilu al-ayatiliqawmin yaAAlamoona

قل من حرم زينة الله التي اخرج لعباده والطيبات من الرزق قل هي للذين امنوا في الحياة الدنيا خالصة يوم القيامة كذلك نفصل الايات لقوم يعلمون

[YA]: Say: Who hath forbidden the beautiful (gifts) of Allah, which He hath produced for His servants, and the things, clean and pure, (which He hath provided) for sustenance? Say: They are, in the life of this world, for those who believe, (and) purely for them on the Day of Judgment. Thus do We explain the signs in detail for those who understand.

[RK]:Say, "Who prohibited the nice things GOD has created for His creatures, and the good provisions?" Say, "Such provisions are to be enjoyed in this life by those who believe. Moreover, the good provisions will be exclusively theirs on the Day of Resurrection." We thus explain the revelations for people who know.

Allatheena ittakhathoodeenahum lahwan walaAAiban wagharrat-humu alhayatualddunya faalyawma nansahum kamanasoo liqaa yawmihim hatha wama kanoobi-ayatina yajhadoona

الذين اتخذوا دينهم لهوا ولعبا وغرتهم الحياة الدنيا فاليوم ننساهم كما نسوا لقاء يومهم هذا وماكانوا باياتنا يجحدون

[YA]: "Such as took their religion to be mere amusement and play, and were deceived by the life of the world." That day shall We forget them as they forgot the meeting of this day of theirs, and as they were wont to reject Our signs.

[RK]:Those who do not take their religion seriously, and are totally preoccupied with this worldly life, we forget them on that day, because they forgot that day, and because they spurned our revelations.

Inna allatheena ittakhathooalAAijla sayanaluhum ghadabun min rabbihim wathillatunfee alhayati alddunya wakathalikanajzee almuftareena

ان الذين اتخذوا العجل سينالهم غضب من ربهم وذلة في الحياة الدنيا وكذلك نجزي المفترين

[YA]: Those who took the calf (for worship) will indeed be overwhelmed with wrath from their Lord, and with shame in this life: thus do We recompense those who invent (falsehoods).

[RK]:Surely, those who idolized the calf have incurred wrath from their Lord, and humiliation in this life. We thus requite the innovators.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooma lakum itha qeela lakumu infiroo fee sabeeli Allahiiththaqaltum ila al-ardi aradeetum bialhayatialddunya mina al-akhirati fama mataAAualhayati alddunya fee al-akhiratiilla qaleelun

ياايها الذين امنوا مالكم اذا قيل لكم انفروا في سبيل الله اثاقلتم الي الارض ارضيتم بالحياة الدنيا من الاخرة فما متاع الحياة الدنيا في الاخرة الا قليل

[YA]: O ye who believe! what is the matter with you, that, when ye are asked to go forth in the cause of Allah, ye cling heavily to the earth? Do ye prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter? But little is the comfort of this life, as compared with the Hereafter.

[RK]:O you who believe, when you are told, "Mobilize in the cause of GOD," why do you become heavily attached to the ground? Have you chosen this worldly life in place of the Hereafter? The materials of this world, compared to the Hereafter, are nil.

Fala tuAAjibka amwaluhum walaawladuhum innama yureedu Allahu liyuAAaththibahumbiha fee alhayati alddunyawatazhaqa anfusuhum wahum kafiroona

فلاتعجبك اموالهم ولااولادهم انما يريد الله ليعذبهم بها في الحياة الدنيا وتزهق انفسهم وهم كافرون

[YA]: Let not their wealth nor their (following in) sons dazzle thee: in reality Allah's plan is to punish them with these things in this life, and that their souls may perish in their (very) denial of Allah.

[RK]:Do not be impressed by their money, or their children. GOD causes these to be sources of retribution for them in this life, and (when they die) their souls depart while they are disbelievers.

Inna allatheena la yarjoona liqaanawaradoo bialhayati alddunyawaitmaannoo biha waallatheenahum AAan ayatina ghafiloona

ان الذين لايرجون لقاءنا ورضوا بالحياة الدنيا واطمانوا بها والذين هم عن اياتنا غافلون

[YA]: Those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us, but are pleased and satisfied with the life of the present, and those who heed not Our Signs,-

[RK]:Those who are not expecting to meet us, and are preoccupied with this worldly life, and are content with it, and refuse to heed our proofs;

Falamma anjahum ithahum yabghoona fee al-ardi bighayri alhaqqi yaayyuha alnnasu innama baghyukum AAalaanfusikum mataAAa alhayati alddunyathumma ilayna marjiAAukum fanunabbi-okum bimakuntum taAAmaloona

فلما انجاهم اذاهم يبغون في الارض بغير الحق ياايها الناس انما بغيكم علي انفسكم متاع الحياة الدنيا ثم الينا مرجعكم فننبئكم بما كنتم تعملون

[YA]: But when he delivereth them, behold! they transgress insolently through the earth in defiance of right! O mankind! your insolence is against your own souls,- an enjoyment of the life of the present: in the end, to Us is your return, and We shall show you the truth of all that ye did.

[RK]:But as soon as He saves them, they transgress on earth, and oppose the truth. O people, your transgression is only to the detriment of your own souls. You remain preoccupied with this worldly life, then to us is your ultimate return, then we inform you of everything you had done.

Innama mathalu alhayatialddunya kama-in anzalnahu mina alssama-ifaikhtalata bihi nabatu al-ardi mimmaya/kulu alnnasu waal-anAAamu hattaitha akhathati al-ardu zukhrufaha waizzayyanatwathanna ahluha annahum qadiroonaAAalayha ataha amruna laylan aw naharanfajaAAalnaha haseedan kaan lam taghnabial-amsi kathalika nufassilu al-ayatiliqawmin yatafakkaroona

انما مثل الحياة الدنيا كماء انزلناه من السماء فاختلط به نبات الارض مما ياكل الناس والانعام حتي اذا اخذت الارض زخرفها وازينت وظن اهلها انهم قادرون عليها اتاها امرنا ليلا او نهارا فجعلناها حصيدا كان لم تغن بالامس كذلك نفصل الايات لقوم يتفكرون

[YA]: The likeness of the life of the present is as the rain which We send down from the skies: by its mingling arises the produce of the earth- which provides food for men and animals: (It grows) till the earth is clad with its golden ornaments and is decked out (in beauty): the people to whom it belongs think they have all powers of disposal over it: There reaches it Our command by night or by day, and We make it like a harvest clean-mown, as if it had not flourished only the day before! thus do We explain the Signs in detail for those who reflect.

[RK]:The analogy of this worldly life is like this: we send down water from the sky to produce with it all kinds of plants from the earth, and to provide food for the people and the animals. Then, just as the earth is perfectly adorned, and its people think that they are in control thereof, our judgment comes by night or by day, leaving it completely barren, as if nothing existed the previous day. We thus explain the revelations for people who reflect.

Lahumu albushra fee alhayatialddunya wafee al-akhirati latabdeela likalimati Allahi thalika huwaalfawzu alAAatheemu

لهم البشري في الحياة الدنيا وفي الاخرة لاتبديل لكلمات الله ذلك هو الفوز العظيم

[YA]: For them are glad tidings, in the life of the present and in the Hereafter; no change can there be in the words of Allah. This is indeed the supreme felicity.

[RK]:For them, joy and happiness in this world, as well as in the Hereafter. This is GOD's unchangeable law. Such is the greatest triumph.

Waqala moosa rabbanainnaka atayta firAAawna wamalaahu zeenatan waamwalanfee alhayati alddunya rabbanaliyudilloo AAan sabeelika rabbana itmis AAalaamwalihim waoshdud AAala quloobihim falayu/minoo hatta yarawoo alAAathaba al-aleema

وقال موسي ربنا انك اتيت فرعون وملاه زينة واموالا في الحياة الدنيا ربنا ليضلوا عن سبيلك ربنا اطمس علي اموالهم واشدد علي قلوبهم فلا يؤمنوا حتي يروا العذاب الاليم

[YA]: Moses prayed: "Our Lord! Thou hast indeed bestowed on Pharaoh and his chiefs splendour and wealth in the life of the present, and so, Our Lord, they mislead (men) from Thy Path. Deface our Lord, the features of their wealth, and send hardness to their hearts, so they will not believe until they see the grievous penalty."

[RK]:Moses said, "Our Lord, you have given Pharaoh and his elders luxuries and wealth in this world. Our Lord, they only use them to repulse others from Your path. Our Lord, wipe out their wealth, and harden their hearts to prevent them from believing, until they see the painful retribution."

Falawla kanat qaryatun amanatfanafaAAaha eemanuha illa qawmayoonusa lamma amanoo kashafna AAanhum AAathabaalkhizyi fee alhayati alddunyawamattaAAnahum ila heenin

فلولا كانت قرية امنت فنفعها ايمانها الا قوم يونس لما امنوا كشفنا عنهم عذاب الخزي في الحياة الدنيا ومتعناهم الي حين

[YA]: Why was there not a single township (among those We warned), which believed,- so its faith should have profited it,- except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the penalty of ignominy in the life of the present, and permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while.

[RK]:Any community that believes will surely be rewarded for believing. For example, the people of Jonah: when they believed, we relieved the humiliating retribution they had been suffering in this world, and we made them prosperous.

Man kana yureedu alhayataalddunya wazeenataha nuwaffi ilayhim aAAmalahumfeeha wahum feeha la yubkhasoona

من كان يريد الحياة الدنيا وزينتها نوف اليهم اعمالهم فيها وهم فيها لايبخسون

[YA]: Those who desire the life of the present and its glitter,- to them we shall pay (the price of) their deeds therein,- without diminution.

[RK]:Those who pursue this worldly life and its material vanities, we will pay them for their works in this life, without the least reduction.

Allahu yabsutu alrrizqaliman yashao wayaqdiru wafarihoo bialhayatialddunya wama alhayatu alddunyafee al-akhirati illa mataAAun

الله يبسط الرزق لمن يشاء ويقدر وفرحوا بالحياة الدنيا وماالحياة الدنيا في الاخرة الا متاع

[YA]: Allah doth enlarge, or grant by (strict) measure, the sustenance (which He giveth) to whomso He pleaseth. (The wordly) rejoice in the life of this world: But the life of this world is but little comfort in the Hereafter.

[RK]:GOD is the One who increases the provision for whomever He wills, or withholds it. They have become preoccupied with this life; and this life, compared to the Hereafter, is nil.

الله يبسط الرزق لمن يشاء ويقدر وفرحوا بالحياة الدنيا وماالحياة الدنيا في الاخرة الا متاع

Lahum AAathabun fee alhayatialddunya walaAAathabu al-akhiratiashaqqu wama lahum mina Allahi min waqin

لهم عذاب في الحياة الدنيا ولعذاب الاخرة اشق ومالهم من الله من واق

[YA]: For them is a penalty in the life of this world, but harder, truly, is the penalty of the Hereafter: and defender have they none against Allah.

[RK]:They have incurred retribution in this life, and the retribution in the Hereafter is far worse. Nothing can protect them against GOD.

Allatheena yastahibboona alhayataalddunya AAala al-akhirati wayasuddoonaAAan sabeeli Allahi wayabghoonaha AAiwajan ola-ikafee dalalin baAAeedin

الذين يستحبون الحياة الدنيا علي الاخرة ويصدون عن سبيل الله ويبغونها عوجا اولئك في ضلال بعيد

[YA]: Those who love the life of this world more than the Hereafter, who hinder (men) from the Path of Allah and seek therein something crooked: they are astray by a long distance.

[RK]:They are the ones who give priority to this life over the Hereafter, repel from the way of GOD, and seek to make it crooked; they have gone far astray.

Yuthabbitu Allahu allatheena amanoobialqawli alththabiti fee alhayatialddunya wafee al-akhirati wayudilluAllahu alththalimeenawayafAAalu Allahu ma yasha/o

يثبت الله الذين امنوا بالقول الثابت في الحياة الدنيا وفي الاخرة ويضل الله الظالمين ويفعل الله مايشاء

[YA]: Allah will establish in strength those who believe, with the word that stands firm, in this world and in the Hereafter; but Allah will leave, to stray, those who do wrong: Allah doeth what He willeth.

[RK]:GOD strengthens those who believe with the proven word, in this life and in the Hereafter. And GOD sends the transgressors astray. Everything is in accordance with GOD's will.

Amwatun ghayru ahya-inwama yashAAuroona ayyana yubAAathoona

اموات غير احياء ومايشعرون ايان يبعثون

[YA]: (They are things) dead, lifeless: nor do they know when they will be raised up.

[RK]:They are dead, not alive, and they have no idea how or when they will be resurrected.

WaAllahu anzala mina alssama-imaan faahya bihi al-arda baAAdamawtiha inna fee thalika laayatan liqawminyasmaAAoona

والله انزل من السماء ماء فاحيا به الارض بعد موتها ان في ذلك لاية لقوم يسمعون

[YA]: And Allah sends down rain from the skies, and gives therewith life to the earth after its death: verily in this is a Sign for those who listen.

[RK]:GOD sends down from the sky water to revive the land after it had died. This should be (sufficient) proof for people who hear.

Man AAamila salihan min thakarinaw ontha wahuwa mu/minun falanuhyiyannahu hayatantayyibatan walanajziyannahum ajrahum bi-ahsani makanoo yaAAmaloona

من عمل صالحا من ذكر او انثي وهو مؤمن فلنحيينه حياة طيبة ولنجزينهم اجرهم باحسن ما كانوا يعملون

[YA]: Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has Faith, verily, to him will We give a new Life, a life that is good and pure and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions.

[RK]:Anyone who works righteousness, male or female, while believing, we will surely grant them a happy life in this world, and we will surely pay them their full recompense (on the Day of Judgment) for their righteous works.

Thalika bi-annahumu istahabbooalhayata alddunya AAala al-akhiratiwaanna Allaha la yahdee alqawma alkafireena

ذلك بانهم استحبوا الحياة الدنيا علي الاخرة وان الله لايهدي القوم الكافرين

[YA]: This because they love the life of this world better than the Hereafter: and Allah will not guide those who reject Faith.

[RK]:This is because they have given priority to this life over the Hereafter, and GOD does not guide such disbelieving people.

Ithan laathaqnaka diAAfaalhayati wadiAAfa almamati thumma latajidu laka AAalayna naseeran

اذا لاذقناك ضعف الحياة وضعف الممات ثم لاتجد لك علينا نصيرا

[YA]: In that case We should have made thee taste an equal portion (of punishment) in this life, and an equal portion in death: and moreover thou wouldst have found none to help thee against Us!

[RK]:Had you done that, we would have doubled the retribution for you in this life, and after death, and you would have found no one to help you against us.

Waisbir nafsaka maAAa allatheenayadAAoona rabbahum bialghadati waalAAashiyyiyureedoona wajhahu wala taAAdu AAaynaka AAanhumtureedu zeenata alhayati alddunya walatutiAA man aghfalna qalbahu AAan thikrinawaittabaAAa hawahu wakana amruhu furutan

واصبر نفسك مع الذين يدعون ربهم بالغداة والعشي يريدون وجهه ولاتعد عيناك عنهم تريد زينة الحياة الدنيا ولاتطع من اغفلنا قلبه عن ذكرنا واتبع هواه وكان امره فرطا

[YA]: And keep thy soul content with those who call on their Lord morning and evening, seeking His Face; and let not thine eyes pass beyond them, seeking the pomp and glitter of this Life; no obey any whose heart We have permitted to neglect the remembrance of Us, one who follows his own desires, whose case has gone beyond all bounds.

[RK]:You shall force yourself to be with those who worship their Lord day and night, seeking Him alone. Do not turn your eyes away from them, seeking the vanities of this world. Nor shall you obey one whose heart we rendered oblivious to our message; one who pursues his own desires, and whose priorities are confused.

Waidrib lahum mathala alhayatialddunya kama-in anzalnahu mina alssama-ifaikhtalata bihi nabatu al-ardi faasbahahasheeman tathroohu alrriyahu wakanaAllahu AAala kulli shay-in muqtadiran

واضرب لهم مثل الحياة الدنيا كماء انزلناه من السماء فاختلط به نبات الارض فاصبح هشيما تذروه الرياح وكان الله علي كل شئ مقتدرا

[YA]: Set forth to them the similitude of the life of this world: It is like the rain which we send down from the skies: the earth's vegetation absorbs it, but soon it becomes dry stubble, which the winds do scatter: it is (only) Allah who prevails over all things.

[RK]:Cite for them the example of this life as water that we send down from the sky to produce plants of the earth, then they turn into hay that is blown away by the wind. GOD is able to do all things.

Almalu waalbanoona zeenatu alhayatialddunya waalbaqiyatu alssalihatukhayrun AAinda rabbika thawaban wakhayrun amalan

المال والبنون زينة الحياة الدنيا والباقيات الصالحات خير عند ربك ثوابا وخير املا

[YA]: Wealth and sons are allurements of the life of this world: But the things that endure, good deeds, are best in the sight of thy Lord, as rewards, and best as (the foundation for) hopes.

[RK]:Money and children are the joys of this life, but the righteous works provide an eternal recompense from your Lord, and a far better hope.
