Waallatheena yunfiqoona amwalahumri-aa alnnasi wala yu/minoona biAllahiwala bialyawmi al-akhiri waman yakuni alshshaytanulahu qareenan fasaa qareenanوالذين ينفقون اموالهم رئاء الناس ولايؤمنون بالله ولاباليوم الاخر ومن يكن الشيطان له قرينا فساء قرينا
[YA]: Not those who spend of their substance, to be seen of men, but have no faith in Allah and the Last Day: If any take the Evil One for their intimate, what a dreadful intimate he is!

[RK]:They give money to charity only to show off, while disbelieving in GOD and the Last Day. If one's companion is the devil, that is the worst companion.

[YA]: And thou wilt see the sinners that day bound together in fetters;-

[RK]:And you will see the guilty on that day chained in shackles.

Wayas-aloonaka AAan thee alqarnayniqul saatloo AAalaykum minhu thikranويسالونك عن ذي القرنين قل ساتلو عليكم منه ذكرا
[YA]: They ask thee concerning Zul-qarnain. Say, "I will rehearse to you something of his story."

[RK]:They ask you about Zul-Qarnain. Say, "I will narrate to you some of his history."

Hatta itha balaghamaghriba alshshamsi wajadaha taghrubu fee AAaynin hami-atinwawajada AAindaha qawman qulna ya thaalqarnayni imma an tuAAaththiba wa-imma antattakhitha feehim husnanحتي اذا بلغ مغرب الشمس وجدها تغرب في عين حمئة ووجد عندها قوما قلنا ياذا القرنين اما ان تعذب واما ان تتخذ فيهم حسنا
[YA]: Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it set in a spring of murky water: Near it he found a People: We said: "O Zul-qarnain! (thou hast authority,) either to punish them, or to treat them with kindness."

[RK]:When he reached the far west, he found the sun setting in a vast ocean, and found people there. We said, "O Zul-Qarnain, you can rule as you wish; either punish, or be kind to them."

Qaloo ya tha alqarnayniinna ya/jooja wama/jooja mufsidoona fee al-ardi fahalnajAAalu laka kharjan AAala an tajAAala baynanawabaynahum saddanقالوا ياذا القرنين ان ياجوج وماجوج مفسدون في الارض فهل نجعل لك خرجا علي ان تجعل بيننا وبينهم سدا
[YA]: They said: "O Zul-qarnain! the Gog and Magog (People) do great mischief on earth: shall we then render thee tribute in order that thou mightest erect a barrier between us and them?

[RK]:They said, "O Zul-Qarnain, Gog and Magog are corruptors of the earth. Can we pay you to create a barrier between us and them?"

Wa-itha olqoo minha makanandayyiqan muqarraneena daAAaw hunalika thubooranواذا القوا منها مكانا ضيقا مقرنين دعوا هنالك ثبورا
[YA]: And when they are cast, bound together into a constricted place therein, they will pLead for destruction there and then!

[RK]:And when they are thrown into it, through a narrow place, all shackled, they will declare their remorse.

Qala qa-ilun minhum innee kanalee qareenunقال قائل منهم اني كان لي قرين
[YA]: One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth),

[RK]:One of them will say, "I used to have a friend.

Waakhareena muqarraneena fee al-asfadiواخرين مقرنين في الاصفاد
[YA]: As also others bound together in fetters.

[RK]:Others were placed at his disposal.

Waqayyadna lahum quranaafazayyanoo lahum ma bayna aydeehim wama khalfahumwahaqqa AAalayhimu alqawlu fee omamin qad khalat minqablihim mina aljinni waal-insi innahum kanoo khasireenaوقيضنا لهم قرناء فزينوا لهم مابين ايديهم وماخلفهم وحق عليهم القول في امم قد خلت من قبلهم من الجن والانس انهم كانوا خاسرين
[YA]: And We have destined for them intimate companions (of like nature), who made alluring to them what was before them and behind them; and the sentence among the previous generations of Jinns and men, who have passed away, is proved against them; for they are utterly lost.

[RK]:We assign to them companions who adorn everything they do in their eyes. Thus, they end up incurring the same fate as the previous communities of jinns and humans, who were also losers.

Litastawoo AAala thuhoorihithumma tathkuroo niAAmata rabbikum itha istawaytumAAalayhi wataqooloo subhana allathee sakhkhara lanahatha wama kunna lahu muqrineenaلتستووا علي ظهوره ثم تذكروا نعمة ربكم اذا استويتم عليه وتقولوا سبحان الذي سخر لنا هذا وماكنا له مقرنين
[YA]: In order that ye may sit firm and square on their backs, and when so seated, ye may celebrate the (kind) favour of your Lord, and say, "Glory to Him Who has subjected these to our (use), for we could never have accomplished this (by ourselves),

[RK]:As you rest on top of them, you shall appreciate such a blessing from your Lord, and say, "Glory be to the One who subdued this for us. We could not have controlled them by ourselves.

Waman yaAAshu AAan thikri alrrahmaninuqayyid lahu shaytanan fahuwa lahu qareenunومن يعش عن ذكر الرحمن نقيض له شيطانا فهو له قرين
[YA]: If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him.

[RK]:Anyone who disregards the message of the Most Gracious, we appoint a devil to be his constant companion.

Hatta itha jaanaqala ya layta baynee wabaynaka buAAda almashriqaynifabi/sa alqareenuحتي اذا جاءنا قال ياليت بيني وبينك بعد المشرقين فبئس القرين
[YA]: At length, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says (to his evil companion): "Would that between me and thee were the distance of East and West!" Ah! evil is the companion (indeed)!

[RK]:When he comes before us he will say, "Oh I wish you were as far from me as the two easts. What a miserable companion!"

Waqala qareenuhu hatha maladayya AAateedunوقال قرينه هذا مالدي عتيد
[YA]: And his Companion will say: "Here is (his Record) ready with me!"

[RK]:The companion said, "Here is my formidable testimony."

Qala qareenuhu rabbana maatghaytuhu walakin kana fee dalalinbaAAeedinقال قرينه ربنا مااطغيته ولكن كان في ضلال بعيد
[YA]: His Companion will say: "Our Lord! I did not make him transgress, but he was (himself) far astray."

[RK]:His companion said, "Our Lord, I did not mislead him; he was far astray."
