[YA]: And Isma'il and Elisha, and Jonas, and Lot: and to all We gave favour above the nations: [RK]:And Ismail, Elisha, Jonah, and Lot; each of these we distinguished over all the people. | ||||

[YA]: We also (sent) Lut: He said to his people: "Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you? [RK]:Lot said to his people, "You commit such an abomination; no one in the world has done it before! | ||||

[YA]: But when he saw their hands went not towards the (meal), he felt some mistrust of them, and conceived a fear of them. They said: "Fear not: We have been sent against the people of Lut." [RK]:When he saw that their hands did not touch it, he became suspicious and fearful of them. They said, "Do not be afraid, we are being dispatched to the people of Lot." | ||||

[YA]: When fear had passed from (the mind of) Abraham and the glad tidings had reached him, he began to plead with us for Lut's people. [RK]:When Abraham's fear subsided, and the good news was delivered to him, he proceeded to argue with us on behalf of Lot's people. | ||||

[YA]: When Our messengers came to Lut, he was grieved on their account and felt himself powerless (to protect) them. He said: "This is a distressful day." [RK]:When our messengers went to Lot, they were mistreated, and he was embarrassed by their presence. He said, "This is a difficult day." | ||||

[YA]: (The Messengers) said: "O Lut! We are Messengers from thy Lord! By no means shall they reach thee! now travel with thy family while yet a part of the night remains, and let not any of you look back: but thy wife (will remain behind): To her will happen what happens to the people. Morning is their time appointed: Is not the morning nigh?" [RK]:(The angels) said, "O Lot, we are your Lord's messengers, and these people cannot touch you. You shall leave with your family during the night, and let not anyone of you look back, except your wife; she is condemned along with those who are condemned. Their appointed time is the morning. Is not the morning soon enough?" | ||||

[YA]: "And O my people! let not my dissent (from you) cause you to sin, lest ye suffer a fate similar to that of the people of Noah or of Hud or of Salih, nor are the people of Lut far off from you! [RK]:"And, O my people, do not be provoked by your opposition to me into incurring the same disasters as the people of Noah, or the people of Hood, or the people of Saaleh; and the people of Lot are not too far from you. | ||||

[YA]: "Excepting the adherents of Lut: them we are certainly (charged) to save (from harm),- All - [RK]:"As for Lot's family, we will save them all. | ||||

[YA]: At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut, [RK]:The messengers went to Lot's town. | ||||

[YA]: But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. [RK]:We saved him, and we saved Lot, to the land that we blessed for all the people. | ||||

[YA]: And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. [RK]:As for Lot, we granted him wisdom and knowledge, and we saved him from the community that practiced abominations; they were wicked and evil people. | ||||

[YA]: Those of Abraham and Lut; [RK]:Also the people of Abraham, and the people of Lot. | ||||

[YA]: They said: "If thou desist not, O Lut! thou wilt assuredly be cast out!" [RK]:They said, "Unless you refrain, O Lot, you will be banished." | ||||

[YA]: (We also sent) Lut (as a messenger): behold, He said to his people, "Do ye do what is shameful though ye see (its iniquity)? [RK]:Lot said to his people, "How could you commit such an abomination, publicly, while you see? | ||||

[YA]: But his people gave no other answer but this: they said, "Drive out the followers of Lut from your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!" [RK]:The only response from his people was their saying, "Banish Lot's family from your town; they are people who wish to be pure." | ||||

[YA]: But Lut had faith in Him: He said: "I will leave home for the sake of my Lord: for He is Exalted in Might, and Wise." [RK]:Lot believed with him and said, "I am emigrating to my Lord. He is the Almighty, the Most Wise." | ||||

[YA]: And (remember) Lut: behold, he said to his people: "Ye do commit lewdness, such as no people in Creation (ever) committed before you. [RK]:Lot said to his people, "You commit such an abomination, no one in the world has ever done it before you. | ||||

[YA]: He said: "But there is Lut there." They said: "Well do we know who is there : we will certainly save him and his following,- except his wife: she is of those who lag behind!" [RK]:He said, "But Lot is living there." They said, "We are fully aware of everyone who lives in it. We will of course save him and his family, except his wife; she is doomed." | ||||

[YA]: And when Our Messengers came to Lut, he was grieved on their account, and felt himself powerless (to protect) them: but they said: "Fear thou not, nor grieve: we are (here) to save thee and thy following, except thy wife: she is of those who lag behind. [RK]:When our messengers arrived at Lot's place, they were mistreated, and he was embarrassed by their presence. But they said, "Have no fear, and do not worry. We will save you and your family, except your wife; she is doomed. | ||||

[YA]: So also was Lut among those sent (by Us). [RK]:Lot was one of the messengers. | ||||

[YA]: And Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the Companions of the Wood; - such were the Confederates. [RK]:Also, Thamoud, the people of Lot, the dwellers of the Woods (of Midyan); those were the opponents. | ||||

[YA]: The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. [RK]:The people of Lot rejected the warnings. | ||||

[YA]: We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut's household: them We delivered by early Dawn,- [RK]:We showered them with rocks. Only Lot's family was saved at dawn. | ||||

[YA]: Allah sets forth, for an example to the Unbelievers, the wife of Noah and the wife of Lut: they were (respectively) under two of our righteous servants, but they were false to their (husbands), and they profited nothing before Allah on their account, but were told: "Enter ye the Fire along with (others) that enter!" [RK]:GOD cites as examples of those who disbelieved the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were married to two of our righteous servants, but they betrayed them and, consequently, they could not help them at all against GOD. The two of them were told, "Enter the Hell-fire with those who deserved it." | ||||
