[YA]: To each is a goal to which Allah turns him; then strive together (as in a race) Towards all that is good. Wheresoever ye are, Allah will bring you Together. For Allah Hath power over all things. [RK]:Each of you chooses the direction to follow; you shall race towards righteousness. Wherever you may be, GOD will summon you all. GOD is Omnipotent.
2 | [5:48] Line:717 |
| ||
[YA]: To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it, and guarding it in safety: so judge between them by what Allah hath revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging from the Truth that hath come to thee. To each among you have we prescribed a law and an open way. If Allah had so willed, He would have made you a single people, but (His plan is) to test you in what He hath given you: so strive as in a race in all virtues. The goal of you all is to Allah; it is He that will show you the truth of the matters in which ye dispute; [RK]:Then we revealed to you this scripture, truthfully, confirming previous scriptures, and superseding them. You shall rule among them in accordance with GOD's revelations, and do not follow their wishes if they differ from the truth that came to you. For each of you, we have decreed laws and different rites. Had GOD willed, He could have made you one congregation. But He thus puts you to the test through the revelations He has given each of you. You shall compete in righteousness. To GOD is your final destiny - all of you - then He will inform you of everything you had disputed.
3 | [7:80] Line:1034 |
| ||
[YA]: We also (sent) Lut: He said to his people: "Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you? [RK]:Lot said to his people, "You commit such an abomination; no one in the world has done it before!
4 | [8:59] Line:1219 |
| ||
[YA]: Let not the unbelievers think that they can get the better (of the godly): they will never frustrate (them). [RK]:Let not those who disbelieve think that they can get away with it; they can never escape.
5 | [8:68] Line:1228 |
| ||
[YA]: Had it not been for a previous ordainment from Allah, a severe penalty would have reached you for the (ransom) that ye took. [RK]:If it were not for a predetermined decree from GOD, you would have suffered, on account of what you took, a terrible retribution.
6 | [9:100] Line:1335 |
| ||
[YA]: The vanguard (of Islam)- the first of those who forsook (their homes) and of those who gave them aid, and (also) those who follow them in (all) good deeds,- well-pleased is Allah with them, as are they with Him: for them hath He prepared gardens under which rivers flow, to dwell therein for ever: that is the supreme felicity. [RK]:As for the early vanguards who immigrated (Muhajerin), and the supporters who gave them refuge (Ansar) and those who followed them in righteousness, GOD is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. He has prepared for them gardens with flowing streams, wherein they abide forever. This is the greatest triumph.
7 | [10:19] Line:1383 |
| ||
[YA]: Mankind was but one nation, but differed (later). Had it not been for a word that went forth before from thy Lord, their differences would have been settled between them. [RK]:The people used to be one congregation, then they disputed. If it were not for a predetermined word from your Lord, they would have been judged immediately regarding their disputes.
8 | [11:40] Line:1513 |
| ||
[YA]: At length, behold! there came Our command, and the fountains of the earth gushed forth! We said: "Embark therein, of each kind two, male and female, and your family - except those against whom the word has already gone forth,- and the Believers." but only a few believed with him. [RK]:When our judgment came, and the atmosphere boiled over, we said, "Carry on it a pair of each kind, together with your family, except those who are condemned. Carry with you those who have believed," and only a few have believed with him.
9 | [11:110] Line:1583 |
| ||
[YA]: We certainly gave the Book to Moses, but differences arose therein: had it not been that a word had gone forth before from thy Lord, the matter would have been decided between them, but they are in suspicious doubt concerning it. [RK]:We have given Moses the scripture, but it was disputed, and if it were not for a predetermined word decreed by your Lord, they would have been judged immediately. They are full of doubt about this, suspicious.
10 | [12:17] Line:1613 |
| ||
[YA]: They said: "O our father! We went racing with one another, and left Joseph with our things; and the wolf devoured him.... But thou wilt never believe us even though we tell the truth." [RK]:They said, "Our father, we went racing with each other, leaving Joseph with our equipment, and the wolf devoured him. You will never believe us, even if we were telling the truth."
11 | [12:25] Line:1621 |
| ||
[YA]: So they both raced each other to the door, and she tore his shirt from the back: they both found her lord near the door. She said: "What is the (fitting) punishment for one who formed an evil design against thy wife, but prison or a grievous chastisement?" [RK]:The two of them raced towards the door, and, in the process, she tore his garment from the back. They found her husband at the door. She said, "What should be the punishment for one who wanted to molest your wife, except imprisonment or a painful punishment?"
12 | [15:5] Line:1807 |
| ||
[YA]: Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. [RK]:The end of any community can never be advanced, nor delayed.
13 | [20:99] Line:2447 |
| ||
[YA]: Thus do We relate to thee some stories of what happened before: for We have sent thee a Message from Our own Presence. [RK]:We thus narrate to you some news from the past generations. We have revealed to you a message from us.
14 | [20:129] Line:2477 |
| ||
[YA]: Had it not been for a Word that went forth before from thy Lord, (their punishment) must necessarily have come; but there is a Term appointed (for respite). [RK]:If it were not for your Lord's predetermined plan, they would have been judged immediately.
15 | [21:27] Line:2510 |
| ||
[YA]: They speak not before He speaks, and they act (in all things) by His Command. [RK]:They never speak on their own, and they strictly follow His commands.
16 | [21:101] Line:2584 |
| ||
[YA]: Those for whom the good (record) from Us has gone before, will be removed far therefrom. [RK]:As for those who deserved our magnificent rewards, they will be protected from it.
17 | [23:27] Line:2700 |
| ||
[YA]: So We inspired him (with this message): "Construct the Ark within Our sight and under Our guidance: then when comes Our Command, and the fountains of the earth gush forth, take thou on board pairs of every species, male and female, and thy family- except those of them against whom the Word has already gone forth: And address Me not in favour of the wrong-doers; for they shall be drowned (in the Flood). [RK]:We then inspired him: "Make the watercraft under our watchful eyes, and in accordance with our inspiration. When our command comes, and the atmosphere boils up, put on it a pair of every kind (of your domesticated animals), and your family, except those condemned to be doomed. Do not speak to Me on behalf of those who transgressed; they will be drowned.
18 | [23:43] Line:2716 |
| ||
[YA]: No people can hasten their term, nor can they delay (it). [RK]:No community can advance its predetermined fate, nor delay it.
19 | [23:61] Line:2734 |
| ||
[YA]: It is these who hasten in every good work, and these who are foremost in them. [RK]:They are eager to do righteous works; they compete in doing them.
20 | [29:4] Line:3344 |
| ||
[YA]: Do those who practise evil think that they will get the better of Us? Evil is their judgment! [RK]:Do those who commit sins think that they can ever fool us? Wrong indeed is their judgment.
21 | [29:28] Line:3368 |
| ||
[YA]: And (remember) Lut: behold, he said to his people: "Ye do commit lewdness, such as no people in Creation (ever) committed before you. [RK]:Lot said to his people, "You commit such an abomination, no one in the world has ever done it before you.
22 | [29:39] Line:3379 |
| ||
[YA]: (Remember also) Qarun, Pharaoh, and Haman: there came to them Moses with Clear Signs, but they behaved with insolence on the earth; yet they could not overreach (Us). [RK]:Also Qaaroon, Pharaoh, and Hamaan; Moses went to them with clear signs. But they continued to commit tyranny on earth. Consequently, they could not evade (the retribution).
23 | [35:32] Line:3692 |
| ||
[YA]: Then We have given the Book for inheritance to such of Our Servants as We have chosen: but there are among them some who wrong their own souls; some who follow a middle course; and some who are, by Allah's leave, foremost in good deeds; that is the highest Grace. [RK]:We passed the scripture from generation to generation, and we allowed whomever we chose from among our servants to receive it. Subsequently, some of them wronged their souls, others upheld it only part of the time, while others were eager to work righteousness in accordance with GOD's will; this is the greatest triumph.
24 | [36:40] Line:3745 |
| ||
[YA]: It is not permitted to the Sun to catch up the Moon, nor can the Night outstrip the Day: Each (just) swims along in (its own) orbit (according to Law). [RK]:The sun is never to catch up with the moon - the night and the day never deviate - each of them is floating in its own orbit.
25 | [36:66] Line:3771 |
| ||
[YA]: If it had been our Will, We could surely have blotted out their eyes; then should they have run about groping for the Path, but how could they have seen? [RK]:If we will, we can veil their eyes and, consequently, when they seek the path, they will not see.
26 | [37:171] Line:3959 |
| ||
[YA]: Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), [RK]:Our decision is already decreed for our servants the messengers.
27 | [41:45] Line:4263 |
| ||
[YA]: We certainly gave Moses the Book aforetime: but disputes arose therein. Had it not been for a Word that went forth before from thy Lord, (their differences) would have been settled between them: but they remained in suspicious disquieting doubt thereon. [RK]:We have given Moses the scripture and it was also disputed. If it were not for your Lord's predetermined decision, they would have been judged immediately. Indeed, they harbor too many doubts.
28 | [42:14] Line:4286 |
| ||
[YA]: And they became divided only after Knowledge reached them,- through selfish envy as between themselves. Had it not been for a Word that went forth before from thy Lord, (tending) to a Term appointed, the matter would have been settled between them: But truly those who have inherited the Book after them are in suspicious (disquieting) doubt concerning it. [RK]:Ironically, they broke up into sects only after the knowledge had come to them, due to jealousy and resentment among themselves. If it were not for a predetermined decision from your Lord to respite them for a definite interim, they would have been judged immediately. Indeed, the later generations who inherited the scripture are full of doubts.
29 | [46:11] Line:4521 |
| ||
[YA]: The Unbelievers say of those who believe: "If (this Message) were a good thing, (such men) would not have gone to it first, before us!" And seeing that they guide not themselves thereby, they will say, "this is an (old,) falsehood!" [RK]:Those who disbelieved said about those who believed, "If it were anything good, they would not have accepted it before us." Because they were not guided to it, they said, "This is an old fabrication!"
30 | [56:10] Line:4989 |
| ||
[YA]: And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). [RK]:Then there is the elite of the elite.
31 | [56:10] Line:4989 |
| ||
[YA]: And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). [RK]:Then there is the elite of the elite.
32 | [56:60] Line:5039 |
| ||
[YA]: We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated [RK]:We have predetermined death for you. Nothing can stop us
33 | [57:21] Line:5096 |
| ||
[YA]: Be ye foremost (in seeking) Forgiveness from your Lord, and a Garden (of Bliss), the width whereof is as the width of heaven and earth, prepared for those who believe in Allah and His messengers: that is the Grace of Allah, which He bestows on whom he pleases: and Allah is the Lord of Grace abounding. [RK]:Therefore, you shall race towards forgiveness from your Lord, and a Paradise whose width encompasses the heaven and the earth. It awaits those who believed in GOD and His messengers. Such is GOD's grace that He bestows upon whomever He wills. GOD is Possessor of Infinite Grace.
34 | [59:10] Line:5136 |
| ||
[YA]: And those who came after them say: "Our Lord! Forgive us, and our brethren who came before us into the Faith, and leave not, in our hearts, rancour (or sense of injury) against those who have believed. Our Lord! Thou art indeed Full of Kindness, Most Merciful." [RK]:Those who became believers after them say, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brethren who preceded us to the faith, and keep our hearts from harboring any hatred towards those who believed. Our Lord, You are Compassionate, Most Merciful."
35 | [70:41] Line:5416 |
| ||
[YA]: Substitute for them better (men) than they; And We are not to be defeated (in Our Plan). [RK]:to substitute better people in your place; we can never be defeated.
36 | [79:4] Line:5716 |
| ||
[YA]: Then press forward as in a race, [RK]:Eagerly racing with one another -
