| [YA]: Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere, [RK]:We will surely test you through some fear, hunger, and loss of money, lives, and crops. Give good news to the steadfast. | ||||

| [YA]: Of some messengers We have already told thee the story; of others We have not;- and to Moses Allah spoke direct;- [RK]:Messengers we have told you about, and messengers we never told you about. And GOD spoke to Moses directly. | ||||

GOD thus seals the hearts of the disbelievers. | ||||

| [YA]: We punished the people of Pharaoh with years (of droughts) and shortness of crops; that they might receive admonition. [RK]:We then afflicted Pharaoh's people with drought, and shortage of crops, that they may take heed. | ||||

| [YA]: (But the treaties are) not dissolved with those Pagans with whom ye have entered into alliance and who have not subsequently failed you in aught, nor aided any one against you. So fulfil your engagements with them to the end of their term: for Allah loveth the righteous. [RK]:If the idol worshipers sign a peace treaty with you, and do not violate it, nor band together with others against you, you shall fulfill your treaty with them until the expiration date. GOD loves the righteous. | ||||

| [YA]: To the Madyan People (We sent) Shu'aib, one of their own brethren: he said: "O my people! worship Allah: Ye have no other god but Him. And give not short measure or weight: I see you in prosperity, but I fear for you the penalty of a day that will compass (you) all round. [RK]:To Midyan we sent their brother Shu`aib. He said, "O my people, worship GOD; you have no other god beside Him. Do not cheat when you measure or weigh. I see that you are prosperous, and I fear for you the retribution of an overwhelming day. | ||||

| [YA]: These are some of the stories of communities which We relate unto thee: of them some are standing, and some have been mown down (by the sickle of time). [RK]:This is news from the past communities that we narrate to you. Some are still standing, and some have vanished. | ||||

| [YA]: Be not then in doubt as to what these men worship. They worship nothing but what their fathers worshipped before (them): but verily We shall pay them back (in full) their portion without (the least) abatement. [RK]:Do not have any doubt regarding what these people worship; they worship exactly as they found their parents worshipping. We will requite them their due share fully, without reduction. | ||||

| [YA]: All that we relate to thee of the stories of the messengers,- with it We make firm thy heart: in them there cometh to thee the Truth, as well as an exhortation and a message of remembrance to those who believe. [RK]:We narrate to you enough history of the messengers to strengthen your heart. The truth has come to you herein, as well as enlightenments and reminders for the believers. | ||||

| [YA]: We do relate unto thee the most beautiful of stories, in that We reveal to thee this (portion of the) Qur'an: before this, thou too was among those who knew it not. [RK]:We narrate to you the most accurate history through the revelation of this Quran. Before this, you were totally unaware. | ||||

| [YA]: See they not that We gradually reduce the land (in their control) from its outlying borders? (Where) Allah commands, there is none to put back His Command: and He is swift in calling to account. [RK]:Do they not see that every day on earth, brings them closer to the end, and that GOD decides their life span, irrevocably? He is the most efficient Reckoner. | ||||

| [YA]: We relate to thee their story in truth: they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We advanced them in guidance: [RK]:We narrate to you their history, truthfully. They were youths who believed in their Lord, and we increased their guidance. | ||||

| [YA]: Thus do We relate to thee some stories of what happened before: for We have sent thee a Message from Our own Presence. [RK]:We thus narrate to you some news from the past generations. We have revealed to you a message from us. | ||||

| [YA]: Nay, We gave the good things of this life to these men and their fathers until the period grew long for them; See they not that We gradually reduce the land (in their control) from its outlying borders? Is it then they who will win? [RK]:We have provided for these people and their ancestors, up until an old age. Do they not see that every day on earth brings them closer to the end? Can they reverse this process? | ||||

| [YA]: And Allah did create you from dust; then from a sperm-drop; then He made you in pairs. And no female conceives, or lays down (her load), but with His knowledge. Nor is a man long-lived granted length of days, nor is a part cut off from his life, but is in a Decree (ordained). All this is easy to Allah. [RK]:GOD created you from dust, then from a tiny drop, then He causes you to reproduce through your spouses. No female becomes pregnant, nor gives birth, without His knowledge. No one survives for a long life, and no one's life is snapped short, except in accordance with a pre-existing record. This is easy for GOD. | ||||

| [YA]: We did aforetime send messengers before thee: of them there are some whose story We have related to thee, and some whose story We have not related to thee. It was not (possible) for any messenger to bring a sign except by the leave of Allah: but when the Command of Allah issued, the matter was decided in truth and justice, and there perished, there and then those who stood on Falsehoods. [RK]:We have sent messengers before you - some of them we mentioned to you, and some we did not mention to you. No messenger can produce any miracle without GOD's authorization. Once GOD's judgment is issued, the truth dominates, and the falsifiers are exposed and humiliated. | ||||
