[YA]: "O my father! serve not Satan: for Satan is a rebel against (Allah) Most Gracious.

[RK]:"O my father, do not worship the devil. The devil has rebelled against the Most Gracious.

ياابت اني اخاف ان يمسسك عذاب من الرحمن فتكون للشيطان وليا

[YA]: "O my father! I fear lest a Penalty afflict thee from (Allah) Most Gracious, so that thou become to Satan a friend."

[RK]:"O my father, I fear lest you incur retribution from the Most Gracious, then become an ally of the devil."

Fawarabbika lanahshurannahum waalshshayateenathumma lanuhdirannahum hawla jahannama jithiyyan

فوربك لنحشرنهم والشياطين ثم لنحضرنهم حول جهنم جثيا

[YA]: So, by thy Lord, without doubt, We shall gather them together, and (also) the Evil Ones (with them); then shall We bring them forth on their knees round about Hell;

[RK]:By your Lord, we will certainly summon them, together with the devils, and will gather them around Hell, humiliated.

Alam tara anna arsalna alshshayateenaAAala alkafireena taozzuhum azzan

الم تر انا ارسلنا الشياطين علي الكافرين تؤزهم ازا

[YA]: Seest thou not that We have set the Evil Ones on against the unbelievers, to incite them with fury?

[RK]:Do you not see how we unleash the devils upon the disbelievers to stir them up?

Fawaswasa ilayhi alshshaytanuqala ya adamu hal adulluka AAalashajarati alkhuldi wamulkin la yabla

فوسوس اليه الشيطان قال ياادم هل ادلك علي شجرة الخلد وملك لايبلي

[YA]: But Satan whispered evil to him: he said, "O Adam! shall I lead thee to the Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that never decays?"

[RK]:But the devil whispered to him, saying, "O Adam, let me show you the tree of eternity and unending kingship."

Wamina alshshayateeni manyaghoosoona lahu wayaAAmaloona AAamalan doona thalikawakunna lahum hafitheena

ومن الشياطين من يغوصون له ويعملون عملا دون ذلك وكنا لهم حافظين

[YA]: And of the evil ones, were some who dived for him, and did other work besides; and it was We Who guarded them.

[RK]:And of the devils there were those who would dive for him (to harvest the sea), or do whatever else he commanded them to do. We committed them in his service.

Wamina alnnasi man yujadilufee Allahi bighayri AAilmin wayattabiAAu kulla shaytaninmareedin

ومن الناس من يجادل في الله بغير علم ويتبع كل شيطان مريد

[YA]: And yet among men there are such as dispute about Allah, without knowledge, and follow every evil one obstinate in rebellion!

[RK]:Among the people, there are those who argue about GOD without knowledge, and follow every rebellious devil.

Wama arsalna min qablika minrasoolin wala nabiyyin illa itha tamannaalqa alshshaytanu fee omniyyatihi fayansakhuAllahu ma yulqee alshshaytanu thummayuhkimu Allahu ayatihi waAllahuAAaleemun hakeemun

وماارسلنا من قبلك من رسول ولانبي الا اذا تمني القي الشيطان في امنيته فينسخ الله مايلقي الشيطان ثم يحكم الله اياته والله عليم حكيم

[YA]: Never did We send a messenger or a prophet before thee, but, when he framed a desire, Satan threw some (vanity) into his desire: but Allah will cancel anything (vain) that Satan throws in, and Allah will confirm (and establish) His Signs: for Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom:

[RK]:We did not send before you any messenger, nor a prophet, without having the devil interfere in his wishes. GOD then nullifies what the devil has done. GOD perfects His revelations. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

LiyajAAala ma yulqee alshshaytanufitnatan lillatheena fee quloobihim maradun waalqasiyatiquloobuhum wa-inna alththalimeenalafee shiqaqin baAAeedin

ليجعل مايلقي الشيطان فتنة للذين في قلوبهم مرض والقاسية قلوبهم وان الظالمين لفي شقاق بعيد

[YA]: That He may make the suggestions thrown in by Satan, but a trial for those in whose hearts is a disease and who are hardened of heart: verily the wrong-doers are in a schism far (from the Truth):

[RK]:He thus sets up the devil's scheme as a test for those who harbor doubts in their hearts, and those whose hearts are hardened. The wicked must remain with the opposition.

وقل رب اعوذ بك من همزات الشياطين

[YA]: And say "O my Lord! I seek refuge with Thee from the suggestions of the Evil Ones.

[RK]:Say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the whispers of the devils.

ياايها الذين امنوا لاتتبعوا خطوات الشيطان ومن يتبع خطوات الشيطان فانه يامر بالفحشاء والمنكر ولولا فضل الله عليكم ورحمته مازكي منكم من احد ابدا ولكن الله يزكي من يشاء والله سميع عليم

[YA]: O ye who believe! follow not Satan's footsteps: if any will follow the footsteps of Satan, he will (but) command what is shameful and wrong: and were it not for the grace and mercy of Allah on you, not one of you would ever have been pure: but Allah doth purify whom He pleases: and Allah is One Who hears and knows (all things).

[RK]:O you who believe, do not follow the steps of Satan. Anyone who follows the steps of Satan should know that he advocates evil and vice. If it were not for GOD's grace towards you, and His mercy, none of you would have been purified. But GOD purifies whomever He wills. GOD is Hearer, Knower.

لقد اضلني عن الذكر بعد اذ جاءني وكان الشيطان للانسان خذولا

[YA]: "He did lead me astray from the Message (of Allah) after it had come to me! Ah! the Evil One is but a traitor to man!"

[RK]:"He has led me away from the message after it came to me. Indeed, the devil lets down his human victims."

[YA]: No evil ones have brought down this (Revelation):

[RK]:The devils can never reveal this.

هل انبئكم علي من تنزل الشياطين

[YA]: Shall I inform you, (O people!), on whom it is that the evil ones descend?

[RK]:Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend?

Wajadtuha waqawmaha yasjudoonalilshshamsi min dooni Allahi wazayyana lahumu alshshaytanuaAAmalahum fasaddahum AAani alssabeeli fahumla yahtadoona

وجدتها وقومها يسجدون للشمس من دون الله وزين لهم الشيطان اعمالهم فصدهم عن السبيل فهم لايهتدون

[YA]: "I found her and her people worshipping the sun besides Allah: Satan has made their deeds seem pleasing in their eyes, and has kept them away from the Path,- so they receive no guidance,-

[RK]:"I found her and her people prostrating before the sun, instead of GOD. The devil has adorned their works in their eyes, and has repulsed them from the path; consequently, they are not guided."

Wadakhala almadeenata AAala heenighaflatin min ahliha fawajada feeha rajulayniyaqtatilani hatha min sheeAAatihi wahathamin AAaduwwihi faistaghathahu allathee minsheeAAatihi AAala allathee min AAaduwwihifawakazahu moosa faqada AAalayhi qala hathamin AAamali alshshaytani innahu AAaduwwun mudillunmubeenun

ودخل المدينة علي حين غفلة من اهلها فوجد فيها رجلين يقتتلان هذا من شيعته وهذا من عدوه فاستغاثه الذي من شيعته علي الذي من عدوه فوكزه موسي فقضي عليه قال هذا من عمل الشيطان انه عدو مضل مبين

[YA]: And he entered the city at a time when its people were not watching: and he found there two men fighting,- one of his own religion, and the other, of his foes. Now the man of his own religion appealed to him against his foe, and Moses struck him with his fist and made an end of him. He said: "This is a work of Evil (Satan): for he is an enemy that manifestly misleads!"

[RK]:Once he entered the city unexpectedly, without being recognized by the people. He found two men fighting; one was (a Hebrew) from his people, and the other was (an Egyptian) from his enemies. The one from his people called on him for help against his enemy. Moses punched him, killing him. He said, "This is the work of the devil; he is a real enemy, and a profound misleader."

WaAAadan wathamooda waqad tabayyanalakum min masakinihim wazayyana lahumu alshshaytanuaAAmalahum fasaddahum AAani alssabeeli wakanoomustabsireena

وعادا وثمود وقد تبين لكم من مساكنهم وزين لهم الشيطان اعمالهم فصدهم عن السبيل وكانوا مستبصرين

[YA]: (Remember also) the 'Ad and the Thamud (people): clearly will appear to you from (the traces) of their buildings (their fate): the Evil One made their deeds alluring to them, and kept them back from the Path, though they were gifted with intelligence and skill.

[RK]:Similarly, 'Aad and Thamoud (were annihilated). This is made manifest to you through their ruins. The devil had adorned their works in their eyes, and had diverted them from the path, even though they had eyes.

Wa-itha qeela lahumu ittabiAAoo maanzala Allahu qaloo bal nattabiAAu ma wajadnaAAalayhi abaana awa law kana alshshaytanuyadAAoohum ila AAathabi alssaAAeeri

واذا قيل لهم اتبعوا ماانزل الله قالوا بل نتبع ماوجدنا عليه اباءنا اولو كان الشيطان يدعوهم الي عذاب السعير

[YA]: When they are told to follow the (Revelation) that Allah has sent down, they say: "Nay, we shall follow the ways that we found our fathers (following). "What! even if it is Satan beckoning them to the Penalty of the (Blazing) Fire?

[RK]:When they are told, "Follow these revelations of GOD," they say, "No, we follow only what we found our parents doing." What if the devil is leading them to the agony of Hell?

Inna alshshaytana lakumAAaduwwun faittakhithoohu AAaduwwan innamayadAAoo hizbahu liyakoonoo min as-habi alssaAAeeri

ان الشيطان لكم عدو فاتخذوه عدوا انما يدعو حزبه ليكونوا من اصحاب السعير

[YA]: Verily Satan is an enemy to you: so treat him as an enemy. He only invites his adherents, that they may become Companions of the Blazing Fire.

[RK]:The devil is your enemy, so treat him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be the dwellers of Hell.

الم اعهد اليكم يابني ادم ان لاتعبدوا الشيطان انه لكم عدو مبين

[YA]: "Did I not enjoin on you, O ye Children of Adam, that ye should not worship Satan; for that he was to you an enemy avowed?-

[RK]:Did I not covenant with you, O Children of Adam, that you shall not worship the devil? That he is your most ardent enemy?

[YA]: (For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits,

[RK]:We guarded it from every evil devil.

طلعها كانه رؤوس الشياطين

[YA]: The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils:

[RK]:Its flowers look like the devils' heads.

[YA]: As also the evil ones, (including) every kind of builder and diver,-

[RK]:And the devils, building and diving.

Waothkur AAabdanaayyooba ith nada rabbahu annee massaniya alshshaytanubinusbin waAAathabin

واذكر عبدنا ايوب اذ نادي ربه اني مسني الشيطان بنصب وعذاب

[YA]: Commemorate Our Servant Job. Behold he cried to his Lord: "The Evil One has afflicted me with distress and suffering!"

[RK]:Remember our servant Job: he called upon his Lord, "The devil has afflicted me with hardship and pain."

Wa-imma yanzaghannaka mina alshshaytaninazghun faistaAAith biAllahi innahuhuwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu

واما ينزغنك من الشيطان نزغ فاستعذ بالله انه هو السميع العليم

[YA]: And if (at any time) an incitement to discord is made to thee by the Evil One, seek refuge in Allah. He is the One Who hears and knows all things.

[RK]:When the devil whispers an idea to you, you shall seek refuge in GOD. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient.

ومن يعش عن ذكر الرحمن نقيض له شيطانا فهو له قرين

[YA]: If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him.

[RK]:Anyone who disregards the message of the Most Gracious, we appoint a devil to be his constant companion.

ولايصدنكم الشيطان انه لكم عدو مبين

[YA]: Let not the Evil One hinder you: for he is to you an enemy avowed.

[RK]:Let not the devil repel you; he is your most ardent enemy.

Inna allatheena irtaddoo AAalaadbarihim min baAAdi ma tabayyana lahumu alhudaalshshaytanu sawwala lahum waamla lahum

ان الذين ارتدوا علي ادبارهم من بعد ماتبين لهم الهدي الشيطان سول لهم واملي لهم

[YA]: Those who turn back as apostates after Guidance was clearly shown to them,- the Evil One has instigated them and busied them up with false hopes.

[RK]:Surely, those who slide back, after the guidance has been manifested to them, the devil has enticed them and led them on.

Innama alnnajwa mina alshshaytaniliyahzuna allatheena amanoo walaysa bidarrihimshay-an illa bi-ithni Allahi waAAalaAllahi falyatawakkali almu/minoona

انما النجوي من الشيطان ليحزن الذين امنوا وليس بضارهم شيئا الا باذن الله وعلي الله فليتوكل المؤمنون

[YA]: Secret counsels are only (inspired) by the Evil One, in order that he may cause grief to the Believers; but he cannot harm them in the least, except as Allah permits; and on Allah let the Believers put their trust.

[RK]:Secret conspiracy is the devil's idea, through which he seeks to hurt those who believed. However, he cannot hurt them against GOD's will. In GOD the believers shall trust.

Istahwatha AAalayhimu alshshaytanufaansahum thikra Allahi ola-ika hizbualshshaytani ala inna hizba alshshaytanihumu alkhasiroona

استحوذ عليهم الشيطان فانساهم ذكر الله اولئك حزب الشيطان الا ان حزب الشيطان هم الخاسرون

[YA]: The Evil One has got the better of them: so he has made them lose the remembrance of Allah. They are the Party of the Evil One. Truly, it is the Party of the Evil One that will perish!

[RK]:The devil has possessed them, and has caused them to disregard GOD's message. These are the party of the devil. Absolutely, the party of the devil are the losers.

استحوذ عليهم الشيطان فانساهم ذكر الله اولئك حزب الشيطان الا ان حزب الشيطان هم الخاسرون

Kamathali alshshaytani ithqala lil-insani okfur falamma kafara qalainnee baree-on minka innee akhafu Allaha rabba alAAalameena

كمثل الشيطان اذ قال للانسان اكفر فلما كفر قال اني بري منك اني اخاف الله رب العالمين

[YA]: (Their allies deceived them), like the Evil One, when he says to man, "Deny Allah": but when (man) denies Allah, (the Evil One) says, "I am free of thee: I do fear Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!"

[RK]:They are like the devil: he says to the human being, "Disbelieve," then as soon as he disbelieves, he says, "I disown you. I fear GOD, Lord of the universe."

Walaqad zayyanna alssamaaalddunya bimasabeeha wajaAAalnaharujooman lilshshayateeni waaAAtadna lahumAAathaba alssaAAeeri

ولقد زينا السماء الدنيا بمصابيح وجعلناها رجوما للشياطين واعتدنا لهم عذاب السعير

[YA]: And we have, (from of old), adorned the lowest heaven with Lamps, and We have made such (Lamps) (as) missiles to drive away the Evil Ones, and have prepared for them the Penalty of the Blazing Fire.

[RK]:We adorned the lowest universe with lamps, and guarded its borders with projectiles against the devils; we prepared for them a retribution in Hell.

Wama huwa biqawli shaytaninrajeemin

وماهو بقول شيطان رجيم

[YA]: Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed.

[RK]:It is not the talk of a rejected devil.
