Ola-ika lam yakoonoo muAAjizeena feeal-ardi wama kana lahum min dooni Allahimin awliyaa yudaAAafu lahumu alAAathabu makanoo yastateeAAoona alssamAAa wama kanooyubsiroonaاولئك لم يكونوا معجزين في الارض وماكان لهم من دون الله من اولياء يضاعف لهم العذاب ما كانوا يستطيعون السمع وماكانوا يبصرون
[YA]: They will in no wise frustrate (His design) on earth, nor have they protectors besides Allah! Their penalty will be doubled! They lost the power to hear, and they did not see!

[RK]:These will never escape, nor will they find any lords or masters to help them against GOD. Retribution will be doubled for them. They have failed to hear, and they have failed to see.

[YA]: He said: "O my people! see ye whether I have a Clear (Sign) from my Lord, and He hath given me sustenance (pure and) good as from Himself? I wish not, in opposition to you, to do that which I forbid you to do. I only desire (your) betterment to the best of my power; and my success (in my task) can only come from Allah. In Him I trust, and unto Him I look.

[RK]:He said, "O my people, what if I have solid proof from my Lord; what if He has provided me with a great blessing? It is not my wish to commit what I enjoin you from. I only wish to correct as many wrongs as I can. My guidance depends totally on GOD; I have put my trust in Him. To Him I have totally submitted.

[YA]: Whatever beings there are in the heavens and the earth do prostrate themselves to Allah (Acknowledging subjection),- with good-will or in spite of themselves: so do their shadows in the morning and evenings.

[RK]:To GOD prostrates everyone in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and so do their shadows in the mornings and the evenings.

[YA]: And worship others than Allah,- such as have no power of providing them, for sustenance, with anything in heavens or earth, and cannot possibly have such power?

[RK]:Yet, they worship beside GOD what possesses no provisions for them in the heavens, nor on earth, nor can provide them with anything.

[YA]: See what similes they strike for thee: but they have gone astray, and never can they find a way.

[RK]:Note how they describe you, and how this causes them to stray off the path.

Waistafziz mani istataAAtaminhum bisawtika waajlib AAalayhim bikhaylika warajlikawasharik-hum fee al-amwali waal-awladiwaAAidhum wama yaAAiduhumu alshshaytanu illaghurooranواستفزز من استطعت منهم بصوتك واجلب عليهم بخيلك ورجلك وشاركهم في الاموال والاولاد وعدهم ومايعدهم الشيطان الا غرورا
[YA]: "Lead to destruction those whom thou canst among them, with thy (seductive) voice; make assaults on them with thy cavalry and thy infantry; mutually share with them wealth and children; and make promises to them." But Satan promises them nothing but deceit.

[RK]:"You may entice them with your voice, and mobilize all your forces and all your men against them, and share in their money and children, and promise them. Anything the devil promises is no more than an illusion.

Waisbir nafsaka maAAa allatheenayadAAoona rabbahum bialghadati waalAAashiyyiyureedoona wajhahu wala taAAdu AAaynaka AAanhumtureedu zeenata alhayati alddunya walatutiAA man aghfalna qalbahu AAan thikrinawaittabaAAa hawahu wakana amruhu furutanواصبر نفسك مع الذين يدعون ربهم بالغداة والعشي يريدون وجهه ولاتعد عيناك عنهم تريد زينة الحياة الدنيا ولاتطع من اغفلنا قلبه عن ذكرنا واتبع هواه وكان امره فرطا
[YA]: And keep thy soul content with those who call on their Lord morning and evening, seeking His Face; and let not thine eyes pass beyond them, seeking the pomp and glitter of this Life; no obey any whose heart We have permitted to neglect the remembrance of Us, one who follows his own desires, whose case has gone beyond all bounds.

[RK]:You shall force yourself to be with those who worship their Lord day and night, seeking Him alone. Do not turn your eyes away from them, seeking the vanities of this world. Nor shall you obey one whose heart we rendered oblivious to our message; one who pursues his own desires, and whose priorities are confused.

[YA]: "Or the water of the garden will run off underground so that thou wilt never be able to find it."

[RK]:"Or, its water may sink deeper, out of your reach."

[YA]: (The other) said: "Verily thou wilt not be able to have patience with me!"

[RK]:He said, "You cannot stand to be with me.

[YA]: He answered: "Did I not tell thee that thou canst have no patience with me?"

[YA]: He answered: "This is the parting between me and thee: now will I tell thee the interpretation of (those things) over which thou wast unable to hold patience.

[RK]:He said, "Now we have to part company. But I will explain to you everything you could not stand.

Waamma aljidaru fakanalighulamayni yateemayni fee almadeenati wakana tahtahukanzun lahuma wakana aboohuma salihanfaarada rabbuka an yablugha ashuddahumawayastakhrija kanzahuma rahmatan min rabbikawama faAAaltuhu AAan amree thalika ta/weelu malam tastiAA AAalayhi sabranواما الجدار فكان لغلامين يتيمين في المدينة وكان تحته كنز لهما وكان ابوهما صالحا فاراد ربك ان يبلغا اشدهما ويستخرجا كنزهما رحمة من ربك ومافعلته عن امري ذلك تاويل مالم تسطع عليه صبرا
[YA]: "As for the wall, it belonged to two youths, orphans, in the Town; there was, beneath it, a buried treasure, to which they were entitled: their father had been a righteous man: So thy Lord desired that they should attain their age of full strength and get out their treasure - a mercy (and favour) from thy Lord. I did it not of my own accord. Such is the interpretation of (those things) over which thou wast unable to hold patience."

[RK]:"As for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city. Under it, there was a treasure that belonged to them. Because their father was a righteous man, your Lord wanted them to grow up and attain full strength, then extract their treasure. Such is mercy from your Lord. I did none of that of my own volition. This is the explanation of the things you could not stand."

[YA]: (Unbelievers) whose eyes had been under a veil from remembrance of Me, and who had been unable even to hear.

[RK]:They are the ones whose eyes were too veiled to see My message. Nor could they hear.

[YA]: Aaron had already, before this said to them: "O my people! ye are being tested in this: for verily your Lord is (Allah) Most Gracious; so follow me and obey my command."

[RK]:And Aaron had told them, "O my people, this is a test for you. Your only Lord is the Most Gracious, so follow me, and obey my commands."

Bal ta/teehim baghtatan fatabhatuhum falayastateeAAoona raddaha wala hum yuntharoonaبل تاتيهم بغتة فتبهتهم فلا يستطيعون ردها ولاهم ينظرون
[YA]: Nay, it may come to them all of a sudden and confound them: no power will they have then to avert it, nor will they (then) get respite.

[RK]:Indeed, it will come to them suddenly, and they will be utterly stunned. They can neither avoid it, nor can they receive any respite.

Am lahum alihatun tamnaAAuhum mindoonina la yastateeAAoona nasraanfusihim wala hum minna yushaboonaام لهم الهة تمنعهم من دوننا لايستطيعون نصر انفسهم ولاهم منا يصبحون
[YA]: Or have they gods that can guard them from Us? They have no power to aid themselves, nor can they be defended from Us.

[RK]:Do they have gods who can protect them from us? They cannot even help themselves. Nor can they accompany one another when they are summoned to face us.

[YA]: "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost.

[RK]:"If you obey a human being like you, then you are really losers.

[YA]: They say, "We believe in Allah and in the messenger, and we obey": but even after that, some of them turn away: they are not (really) Believers.

[RK]:They say, "We believe in GOD and in the messenger, and we obey," but then some of them slide back afterwards. These are not believers.

Innama kana qawla almu/mineenaitha duAAoo ila Allahi warasoolihi liyahkumabaynahum an yaqooloo samiAAna waataAAna waola-ikahumu almuflihoonaانما كان قول المؤمنين اذا دعوا الي الله ورسوله ليحكم بينهم ان يقولوا سمعنا واطعنا واولئك هم المفلحون
[YA]: The answer of the Believers, when summoned to Allah and His Messenger, in order that He may judge between them, is no other than this: they say, "We hear and we obey": it is such as these that will attain felicity.

[RK]:The only utterance of the believers, whenever invited to GOD and His messenger to judge in their affairs, is to say, "We hear and we obey." These are the winners.

[YA]: It is such as obey Allah and His Messenger, and fear Allah and do right, that will win (in the end),

[RK]:Those who obey GOD and His messenger, and reverence GOD and observe Him, these are the triumphant ones.

Waaqsamoo biAllahi jahda aymanihimla-in amartahum layakhrujunna qul la tuqsimoo taAAatunmaAAroofatun inna Allaha khabeerun bima taAAmaloonaواقسموا بالله جهد ايمانهم لئن امرتهم ليخرجن قل لاتقسموا طاعة معروفة ان الله خبير بما تعملون
[YA]: They swear their strongest oaths by Allah that, if only thou wouldst command them, they would leave (their homes). Say: "Swear ye not; Obedience is (more) reasonable; verily, Allah is well acquainted with all that ye do."

[RK]:They swear by GOD, solemnly, that if you commanded them to mobilize, they would mobilize. Say, "Do not swear. Obedience is an obligation. GOD is fully Cognizant of everything you do."

[YA]: Say: "Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger: but if ye turn away, he is only responsible for the duty placed on him and ye for that placed on you. If ye obey him, ye shall be on right guidance. The Messenger's duty is only to preach the clear (Message).

[RK]:Say, "Obey GOD, and obey the messenger." If they refuse, then he is responsible for his obligations, and you are responsible for your obligations. If you obey him, you will be guided. The sole duty of the messenger is to deliver (the message).

[YA]: So establish regular Prayer and give regular Charity; and obey the Messenger; that ye may receive mercy.

[RK]:You shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and obey the messenger, that you may attain mercy.

[RK]:Note how they called you all kinds of names, and how this led them astray, never to find their way back.

[YA]: (Allah will say): "Now have they proved you liars in what ye say: so ye cannot avert (your penalty) nor (get) help." And whoever among you does wrong, him shall We cause to taste of a grievous Penalty.

[RK]:They have disbelieved in the message you have given them, and, consequently, you can neither protect them from the retribution they have incurred, nor can you help them in any way. Anyone among you who commits evil, we will commit him to severe retribution.

[YA]: We have enjoined on man kindness to parents: but if they (either of them) strive (to force) thee to join with Me (in worship) anything of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not. Ye have (all) to return to me, and I will tell you (the truth) of all that ye did.

[RK]:We enjoined the human being to honor his parents. But if they try to force you to set up idols beside Me, do not obey them. To Me is your ultimate return, then I will inform you of everything you had done.

[YA]: "But if they strive to make thee join in worship with Me things of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not; yet bear them company in this life with justice (and consideration), and follow the way of those who turn to me (in love): in the end the return of you all is to Me, and I will tell you the truth (and meaning) of all that ye did."

[RK]:If they try to force you to set up any idols beside Me, do not obey them. But continue to treat them amicably in this world. You shall follow only the path of those who have submitted to Me. Ultimately, you all return to Me, then I will inform you of everything you have done.

[YA]: O Prophet! Fear Allah, and hearken not to the Unbelievers and the Hypocrites: verily Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom.

[RK]:O you prophet, you shall reverence GOD and do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

Waqarna fee buyootikunna walatabarrajna tabarruja aljahiliyyati al-oola waaqimnaalssalata waateena alzzakatawaatiAAna Allaha warasoolahu innama yureeduAllahu liyuthhiba AAankumu alrrijsa ahlaalbayti wayutahhirakum tatheeranوقرن في بيوتكن ولاتبرجن تبرج الجاهلية الاولي واقمن الصلاة واتين الزكاة واطعن الله ورسوله انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس اهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا
[YA]: And stay quietly in your houses, and make not a dazzling display, like that of the former Times of Ignorance; and establish regular Prayer, and give regular Charity; and obey Allah and His Messenger. And Allah only wishes to remove all abomination from you, ye members of the Family, and to make you pure and spotless.

[RK]:You shall settle down in your homes, and do not mingle with the people excessively, like you used to do in the old days of ignorance. You shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and obey GOD and His messenger. GOD wishes to remove all unholiness from you, O you who live around the Sacred Shrine, and to purify you completely.

Wala tutiAAi alkafireenawaalmunafiqeena wadaAA athahum watawakkalAAala Allahi wakafa biAllahiwakeelanولاتطع الكافرين والمنافقين ودع اذاهم وتوكل علي الله وكفي بالله وكيلا
[YA]: And obey not (the behests) of the Unbelievers and the Hypocrites, and heed not their annoyances, but put thy Trust in Allah. For enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.

[YA]: The Day that their faces will be turned upside down in the Fire, they will say: "Woe to us! Would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger!"

[RK]:The day they are thrown into Hell, they will say, "Oh, we wish we obeyed GOD, and obeyed the messenger."

Waqaloo rabbana inna ataAAnasadatana wakubaraana faadalloonaalssabeelaوقالوا ربنا انا اطعنا سادتنا وكبراءنا فاضلونا السبيلا
[YA]: And they would say: "Our Lord! We obeyed our chiefs and our great ones, and they misled us as to the (right) Path.

[RK]:They will also say, "Our Lord, we have obeyed our masters and leaders, but they led us astray.

Yuslih lakum aAAmalakumwayaghfir lakum thunoobakum waman yutiAAi Allahawarasoolahu faqad faza fawzan AAatheemanيصلح لكم اعمالكم ويغفر لكم ذنوبكم ومن يطع الله ورسوله فقد فاز فوزا عظيما
[YA]: That He may make your conduct whole and sound and forgive you your sins: He that obeys Allah and His Messenger, has already attained the highest achievement.

[RK]:He will then fix your works, and forgive your sins. Those who obey GOD and His messenger have triumphed a great triumph.
