Wa-itha hadara alqismataoloo alqurba waalyatama waalmasakeenufaorzuqoohum minhu waqooloo lahum qawlan maAAroofan

واذا حضر القسمة اولوا القربي واليتامي والمساكين فارزقوهم منه وقولوا لهم قولا معروفا

[YA]: But if at the time of division other relatives, or orphans or poor, are present, feed them out of the (property), and speak to them words of kindness and justice.

[RK]:During distribution of the inheritances, if relatives, orphans, and needy persons are present, you shall give them therefrom, and treat them kindly.

Hurrimat AAalaykumu almaytatu waalddamuwalahmu alkhinzeeri wama ohilla lighayri Allahibihi waalmunkhaniqatu waalmawqoothatu waalmutaraddiyatuwaalnnateehatu wama akala alssabuAAuilla ma thakkaytum wama thubihaAAala alnnusubi waan tastaqsimoo bial-azlamithalikum fisqun alyawma ya-isa allatheena kafaroomin deenikum fala takhshawhum waikhshawni alyawmaakmaltu lakum deenakum waatmamtu AAalaykum niAAmatee waradeetulakumu al-islama deenan famani idturra fee makhmasatinghayra mutajanifin li-ithmin fa-inna Allahaghafoorun raheemun

حرمت عليكم الميتة والدم ولحم الخنزير ومااهل لغير الله به والمنخنقة والموقوذة والمتردية والنطيحة ومااكل السبع الا ماذكيتم وماذبح علي النصب وان تستقسموا بالازلام ذلك فسق اليوم يئس الذين كفروا من دينكم فلا تخشوهم واخشون اليوم اكملت لكم دينكم واتممت عليكم نعمتي ورضيت لكم الاسلام دينا فمن اضطر في مخمصة غير متجانف لاثم فان الله غفور رحيم

[YA]: Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah; that which hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the division (of meat) by raffling with arrows: that is impiety. This day have those who reject faith given up all hope of your religion: yet fear them not but fear Me. This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. But if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination to transgression, Allah is indeed Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

[RK]:Prohibited for you are animals that die of themselves, blood, the meat of pigs, and animals dedicated to other than GOD. (Animals that die of themselves include those) strangled, struck with an object, fallen from a height, gored, attacked by a wild animal - unless you save your animal before it dies - and animals sacrificed on altars. Also prohibited is dividing the meat through a game of chance; this is an abomination. Today, the disbelievers have given up concerning (the eradication of) your religion; do not fear them and fear Me instead. Today, I have completed your religion, perfected My blessing upon you, and I have decreed Submission as the religion for you. If one is forced by famine (to eat prohibited food), without being deliberately sinful, then GOD is Forgiver, Merciful.

Wayaqoolu allatheena amanoo ahaola-iallatheena aqsamoo biAllahi jahda aymanihiminnahum lamaAAakum habitat aAAmaluhum faasbahookhasireena

ويقول الذين امنوا اهولاء الذين اقسموا بالله جهد ايمانهم انهم لمعكم حبطت اعمالهم فاصبحوا خاسرين

[YA]: And those who believe will say: "Are these the men who swore their strongest oaths by Allah, that they were with you?" All that they do will be in vain, and they will fall into (nothing but) ruin.

[RK]:The believers will then say, "Are these the same people who swore by GOD solemnly that they were with you?" Their works have been nullified; they are the losers.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooshahadatu baynikum itha hadara ahadakumualmawtu heena alwasiyyati ithnani thawaAAadlin minkum aw akharani min ghayrikum in antum darabtumfee al-ardi faasabatkum museebatu almawti tahbisoonahumamin baAAdi alssalati fayuqsimani biAllahiini irtabtum la nashtaree bihi thamanan walaw kana thaqurba wala naktumu shahadata Allahiinna ithan lamina al-athimeena

ياايها الذين امنوا شهادة بينكم اذا حضر احدكم الموت حين الوصية اثنان ذوا عدل منكم او اخران من غيركم ان انتم ضربتم في الارض فاصابتكم مصيبة الموت تحبسونهما من بعد الصلاة فيقسمان بالله ان ارتبتم لانشتري به ثمنا ولو كان ذا قربي ولانكتم شهادة الله انا اذا لمن الاثمين

[YA]: O ye who believe! When death approaches any of you, (take) witnesses among yourselves when making bequests,- two just men of your own (brotherhood) or others from outside if ye are journeying through the earth, and the chance of death befalls you (thus). If ye doubt (their truth), detain them both after prayer, and let them both swear by Allah: "We wish not in this for any worldly gain, even though the (beneficiary) be our near relation: we shall hide not the evidence before Allah: if we do, then behold! the sin be upon us!"

[RK]:O you who believe, witnessing a will when one of you is dying shall be done by two equitable people among you. If you are traveling, then two others may do the witnessing. After observing the Contact Prayer (Salat), let the witnesses swear by GOD, to alleviate your doubts: "We will not use this to attain personal gains, even if the testator is related to us. Nor will we conceal GOD's testimony. Otherwise, we would be sinners."

Fa-in AAuthira AAala annahumaistahaqqa ithman faakharani yaqoomanimaqamahuma mina allatheena istahaqqaAAalayhimu al-awlayani fayuqsimani biAllahilashahadatuna ahaqqu min shahadatihimawama iAAtadayna inna ithan lamina alththalimeena

فان عثر علي انهما استحقا اثما فاخران يقومان مقامهما من الذين استحق عليهم الاوليان فيقسمان بالله لشهادتنا احق من شهادتهما ومااعتدينا انا اذا لمن الظالمين

[YA]: But if it gets known that these two were guilty of the sin (of perjury), let two others stand forth in their places,- nearest in kin from among those who claim a lawful right: let them swear by Allah: "We affirm that our witness is truer than that of those two, and that we have not trespassed (beyond the truth): if we did, behold! the wrong be upon us!"

[RK]:If the witnesses are found to be guilty of bias, then two others shall be asked to take their places. Choose two persons who were victimized by the first witnesses, and let them swear by GOD: "Our testimony is more truthful than theirs; we will not be biased. Otherwise, we will be transgressors."

Waaqsamoo biAllahi jahda aymanihimla-in jaat-hum ayatun layu/minunna biha qulinnama al-ayatu AAinda Allahi wamayushAAirukum annaha itha jaat layu/minoona

واقسموا بالله جهد ايمانهم لئن جاءتهم اية ليؤمنن بها قل انما الايات عند الله ومايشعركم انها اذا جاءت لايؤمنون

[YA]: They swear their strongest oaths by Allah, that if a (special) sign came to them, by it they would believe. Say: "Certainly (all) signs are in the power of Allah: but what will make you (Muslims) realise that (even) if (special) signs came, they will not believe."?

[RK]:They swore by GOD, solemnly, that if a miracle came to them, they would surely believe. Say, "Miracles come only from GOD." For all you know, if a miracle did come to them, they would continue to disbelieve.

Waqasamahuma innee lakumalamina alnnasiheena

وقاسمهما اني لكما لمن الناصحين

[YA]: And he swore to them both, that he was their sincere adviser.

[RK]:He swore to them, "I am giving you good advice."

Ahaola-i allatheenaaqsamtum la yanaluhumu Allahu birahmatinodkhuloo aljannata la khawfun AAalaykum wala antumtahzanoona

اهؤلاء الذين اقسمتم لاينالهم الله برحمة ادخلوا الجنة لاخوف عليكم ولاانتم تحزنون

[YA]: "Behold! are these not the men whom you swore that Allah with His Mercy would never bless? Enter ye the Garden: no fear shall be on you, nor shall ye grieve."

[RK]:"Are those the people you swore that GOD will never touch them with mercy?" (The people in the Purgatory will then be told,) "Enter Paradise; you have nothing to fear, nor will you grieve."

Waanthiri alnnasa yawmaya/teehimu alAAathabu fayaqoolu allatheena thalamoorabbana akhkhirna ila ajalin qareebin nujibdaAAwataka wanattabiAAi alrrusula awa lam takoonooaqsamtum min qablu ma lakum min zawalin

وانذر الناس يوم ياتيهم العذاب فيقول الذين ظلموا ربنا اخرنا الي اجل قريب نجب دعوتك ونتبع الرسل اولم تكونوا اقسمتم من قبل مالكم من زوال

[YA]: So warn mankind of the Day when the Wrath will reach them: then will the wrong-doers say: "Our Lord! respite us (if only) for a short term: we will answer Thy call, and follow the messengers!" "What! were ye not wont to swear aforetime that ye should suffer no decline?

[RK]:You shall warn the people of the day when the retribution comes to them. Those who transgressed will say, "Our Lord, give us one more respite. We will then respond to Your call and follow the messengers." Did you not swear in the past that you will last forever?

Laha sabAAatu abwabin likullibabin minhum juz-on maqsoomun

لها سبعة ابواب لكل باب منهم جزء مقسوم

[YA]: To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned.

[RK]:"It will have seven gates. Each gate will get a specific share of them."

Kama anzalna AAalaalmuqtasimeena

كما انزلنا علي المقتسمين

[YA]: (Of just such wrath) as We sent down on those who divided (Scripture into arbitrary parts),-

[RK]:We will deal with the dividers.

Waaqsamoo biAllahi jahda aymanihimla yabAAathu Allahu man yamootu bala waAAdanAAalayhi haqqan walakinna akthara alnnasila yaAAlamoona

واقسموا بالله جهد ايمانهم لايبعث الله من يموت بلي وعدا عليه حقا ولكن اكثر الناس لايعلمون

[YA]: They swear their strongest oaths by Allah, that Allah will not raise up those who die: Nay, but it is a promise (binding) on Him in truth: but most among mankind realise it not.

[RK]:They swore solemnly by GOD: "GOD will not resurrect the dead." Absolutely, such is His inviolable promise, but most people do not know.

Wakam qasamna min qaryatin kanatthalimatan waansha/na baAAdahaqawman akhareena

وكم قصمنا من قرية كانت ظالمة وانشانا بعدها قوما اخرين

[YA]: How many were the populations We utterly destroyed because of their iniquities, setting up in their places other peoples?

[RK]:Many a community we terminated because of their transgression, and we substituted other people in their place.

Waaqsamoo biAllahi jahda aymanihimla-in amartahum layakhrujunna qul la tuqsimoo taAAatunmaAAroofatun inna Allaha khabeerun bima taAAmaloona

واقسموا بالله جهد ايمانهم لئن امرتهم ليخرجن قل لاتقسموا طاعة معروفة ان الله خبير بما تعملون

[YA]: They swear their strongest oaths by Allah that, if only thou wouldst command them, they would leave (their homes). Say: "Swear ye not; Obedience is (more) reasonable; verily, Allah is well acquainted with all that ye do."

[RK]:They swear by GOD, solemnly, that if you commanded them to mobilize, they would mobilize. Say, "Do not swear. Obedience is an obligation. GOD is fully Cognizant of everything you do."

Qaloo taqasamoo biAllahilanubayyitannahu waahlahu thumma lanaqoolanna liwaliyyihi mashahidna mahlika ahlihi wa-inna lasadiqoona

قالوا تقاسموا بالله لنبيتنه واهله ثم لنقولن لوليه ماشهدنا مهلك اهله وانا لصادقون

[YA]: They said: "Swear a mutual oath by Allah that we shall make a secret night attack on him and his people, and that we shall then say to his heir (when he seeks vengeance): 'We were not present at the slaughter of his people, and we are positively telling the truth.'"

[RK]:They said, "Let us swear by GOD that we kill him and his people, then tell his tribe, `We know nothing about their death. We are truthful.' "

Wayawma taqoomu alssaAAatuyuqsimu almujrimoona ma labithoo ghayra saAAatin kathalikakanoo yu/fakoona

ويوم تقوم الساعة يقسم المجرمون مالبثوا غير ساعة كذلك كانوا يؤفكون

[YA]: On the Day that the Hour (of Reckoning) will be established, the transgressors will swear that they tarried not but an hour: thus were they used to being deluded!

[RK]:On the day when the Hour comes to pass, the guilty will swear that they lasted (in this world) only one hour. That is how wrong they were.

Waaqsamoo biAllahi jahda aymanihimla-in jaahum natheerun layakoonunna ahda minihda al-omami falamma jaahum natheerunma zadahum illa nufooran

واقسموا بالله جهد ايمانهم لئن جاءهم نذير ليكونن اهدي من احدي الامم فلما جاءهم نذير مازادهم الا نفورا

[YA]: They swore their strongest oaths by Allah that if a warner came to them, they would follow his guidance better than any (other) of the Peoples: But when a warner came to them, it has only increased their flight (from righteousness),-

[RK]:They swore by GOD solemnly that if a warner went to them, they would be better guided than a certain congregation! However, now that the warner did come to them, this only plunged them deeper into aversion.

Ahum yaqsimoona rahmata rabbika nahnuqasamna baynahum maAAeeshatahum fee alhayatialddunya warafaAAna baAAdahum fawqabaAAdin darajatin liyattakhitha baAAduhumbaAAdan sukhriyyan warahmatu rabbika khayrun mimmayajmaAAoona

اهم يقسمون رحمة ربك نحن قسمنا بينهم معيشتهم في الحياة الدنيا ورفعنا بعضهم فوق بعض درجات ليتخذ بعضهم بعضا سخريا ورحمة ربك خير مما يجمعون

[YA]: Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of thy Lord? It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in the life of this world: and We raise some of them above others in ranks, so that some may command work from others. But the Mercy of thy Lord is better than the (wealth) which they amass.

[RK]:Are they the ones who assign your Lord's mercy? We have assigned their shares in this life, raising some of them above others in ranks, in order to let them serve one another. The mercy from your Lord is far better than any material they may hoard.

[YA]: And those that distribute and apportion by Command;-

[RK]:Distributing them as commanded.

[YA]: Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair!

[RK]:What a disgraceful distribution!

Wanabbi/hum anna almaa qismatunbaynahum kullu shirbin muhtadarun

ونبئهم ان الماء قسمة بينهم كل شرب محتضر

[YA]: And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns).

[RK]:Inform them that the water shall be divided among them; (the camel) shall be allowed to drink on her designated day.

فلا اقسم بمواقع النجوم

[YA]: Furthermore I call to witness the setting of the Stars,-

[RK]:I swear by the positions of the stars.

وانه لقسم لو تعلمون عظيم

[YA]: And that is indeed a mighty adjuration if ye but knew,-

[RK]:This is an oath, if you only knew, that is awesome.

Inna balawnahum kamabalawna as-haba aljannati ith aqsamoolayasrimunnaha musbiheena

انا بلوناهم كما بلونا اصحاب الجنة اذ اقسموا ليصرمنها مصبحين

[YA]: Verily We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, when they resolved to gather the fruits of the (garden) in the morning.

[RK]:We have tested them like we tested the owners of the garden who swore that they will harvest it in the morning.

[YA]: So I do call to witness what ye see,

[RK]:I swear by what you see.

[YA]: Now I do call to witness the Lord of all points in the East and the West that We can certainly-

[YA]: So verily I call to witness the planets - that recede,

[YA]: So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset;

[RK]:I solemnly swear by the rosy dusk.

هل في ذلك قسم لذي حجر

[YA]: Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand?

[RK]:A profound oath, for one who possesses intelligence.

[YA]: I do call to witness this City;-

[RK]:I solemnly swear by this town.
