[YA]: They said: "Truly Joseph and his brother are loved more by our father than we: But we are a goodly body! really our father is obviously wandering (in his mind)!

[RK]:They said, "Joseph and his brother are favored by our father, and we are in the majority. Indeed, our father is far astray.

[YA]: Ladies said in the City: "The wife of the (great) 'Aziz is seeking to seduce her slave from his (true) self: Truly hath he inspired her with violent love: we see she is evidently going astray."

[RK]:Some women in the city gossiped: "The governor's wife is trying to seduce her servant. She is deeply in love with him. We see that she has gone astray."

Qala rabbi alssijnu ahabbuilayya mimma yadAAoonanee ilayhi wa-illa tasrifAAannee kaydahunna asbu ilayhinna waakun mina aljahileenaقال رب السجن احب الي مما يدعونني اليه والا تصرف عني كيدهن اصب اليهن واكن من الجاهلين
[YA]: He said: "O my Lord! the prison is more to my liking than that to which they invite me: Unless Thou turn away their snare from me, I should (in my youthful folly) feel inclined towards them and join the ranks of the ignorant."

[RK]:He said, "My Lord, the prison is better than giving in to them. Unless You divert their scheming from me, I may desire them and behave like the ignorant ones."

Allatheena yastahibboona alhayataalddunya AAala al-akhirati wayasuddoonaAAan sabeeli Allahi wayabghoonaha AAiwajan ola-ikafee dalalin baAAeedinالذين يستحبون الحياة الدنيا علي الاخرة ويصدون عن سبيل الله ويبغونها عوجا اولئك في ضلال بعيد
[YA]: Those who love the life of this world more than the Hereafter, who hinder (men) from the Path of Allah and seek therein something crooked: they are astray by a long distance.

[RK]:They are the ones who give priority to this life over the Hereafter, repel from the way of GOD, and seek to make it crooked; they have gone far astray.

[YA]: Undoubtedly Allah doth know what they conceal, and what they reveal: verily He loveth not the arrogant.

[RK]:Absolutely, GOD knows everything they conceal and everything they declare. He does not love those who are arrogant.

[YA]: This because they love the life of this world better than the Hereafter: and Allah will not guide those who reject Faith.

[RK]:This is because they have given priority to this life over the Hereafter, and GOD does not guide such disbelieving people.

[YA]: "'Throw (the child) into the chest, and throw (the chest) into the river: the river will cast him up on the bank, and he will be taken up by one who is an enemy to Me and an enemy to him': But I cast (the garment of) love over thee from Me: and (this) in order that thou mayest be reared under Mine eye.

[RK]:"Saying: `Throw him into the box, then throw him into the river. The river will throw him onto the shore, to be picked up by an enemy of Mine and an enemy of his.' I showered you with love from Me, and I had you made before My watchful eye.

[YA]: Verily Allah will defend (from ill) those who believe: verily, Allah loveth not any that is a traitor to faith, or show ingratitude.

[RK]:GOD defends those who believe. GOD does not love any betrayer, unappreciative.

Inna allatheena yuhibboona antasheeAAa alfahishatu fee allatheena amanoolahum AAathabun aleemun fee alddunya waal-akhiratiwaAllahu yaAAlamu waantum la taAAlamoonaان الذين يحبون ان تشيع الفاحشة في الذين امنوا لهم عذاب اليم في الدنيا والاخرة والله يعلم وانتم لاتعلمون
[YA]: Those who love (to see) scandal published broadcast among the Believers, will have a grievous Penalty in this life and in the Hereafter: Allah knows, and ye know not.

[RK]:Those who love to see immorality spread among the believers have incurred a painful retribution in this life and in the Hereafter. GOD knows, while you do not know.

Wala ya/tali oloo alfadliminkum waalssaAAati an yu/too olee alqurba waalmasakeenawaalmuhajireena fee sabeeli AllahiwalyaAAfoo walyasfahoo ala tuhibboonaan yaghfira Allahu lakum waAllahu ghafoorunraheemunولاياتل اولوا الفضل منكم والسعة ان يؤتوا اولي القربي والمساكين والمهاجرين في سبيل الله وليعفوا وليصفحوا الا تحبون ان يغفر الله لكم والله غفور رحيم
[YA]: Let not those among you who are endued with grace and amplitude of means resolve by oath against helping their kinsmen, those in want, and those who have left their homes in Allah's cause: let them forgive and overlook, do you not wish that Allah should forgive you? For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

[RK]:Those among you who are blessed with resources and wealth shall be charitable towards their relatives, the poor, and those who have immigrated for the sake of GOD. They shall treat them with kindness and tolerance; do you not love to attain GOD's forgiveness? GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

Innaka la tahdee man ahbabtawalakinna Allaha yahdee man yashao wahuwaaAAlamu bialmuhtadeenaانك لاتهدي من احببت ولكن الله يهدي من يشاء وهو اعلم بالمهتدين
[YA]: It is true thou wilt not be able to guide every one, whom thou lovest; but Allah guides those whom He will and He knows best those who receive guidance.

[RK]:You cannot guide the ones you love. GOD is the only One who guides in accordance with His will, and in accordance with His knowledge of those who deserve the guidance.

Inna qaroona kana min qawmimoosa fabagha AAalayhim waataynahumina alkunoozi ma inna mafatihahu latanoo-obialAAusbati olee alquwwati ith qalalahu qawmuhu la tafrah inna Allaha layuhibbu alfariheenaان قارون كان من قوم موسي فبغي عليهم واتيناه من الكنوز ماان مفاتحه لتنوء بالعصبة اولي القوة اذ قال له قومه لاتفرح ان الله لايحب الفرحين
[YA]: Qarun was doubtless, of the people of Moses; but he acted insolently towards them: such were the treasures We had bestowed on him that their very keys would have been a burden to a body of strong men, behold, his people said to him: "Exult not, for Allah loveth not those who exult (in riches).

[RK]:Qaaroon (the slave driver) was one of Moses' people who betrayed them and oppressed them. We gave him so many treasures that the keys thereof were almost too heavy for the strongest hand. His people said to him, "Do not be so arrogant; GOD does not love those who are arrogant.

Waibtaghi feema atakaAllahu alddara al-akhirata walatansa naseebaka mina alddunya waahsinkama ahsana Allahu ilayka wala tabghialfasada fee al-ardi inna Allaha layuhibbu almufsideenaوابتغ فيما اتاك الله الدار الاخرة ولاتنس نصيبك من الدنيا واحسن كما احسن الله اليك ولاتبغ الفساد في الارض ان الله لايحب المفسدين
[YA]: "But seek, with the (wealth) which Allah has bestowed on thee, the Home of the Hereafter, nor forget thy portion in this world: but do thou good, as Allah has been good to thee, and seek not (occasions for) mischief in the land: for Allah loves not those who do mischief."

[RK]:"Use the provisions bestowed upon you by GOD to seek the abode of the Hereafter, without neglecting your share in this world. Be charitable, as GOD has been charitable towards you. Do not keep on corrupting the earth. GOD does not love the corruptors."

[YA]: That He may reward those who believe and work righteous deeds, out of his Bounty. For He loves not those who reject Faith.

[RK]:For He will generously recompense those who believe and lead a righteous life from His bounties. He does not love the disbelievers.

[YA]: "And swell not thy cheek (for pride) at men, nor walk in insolence through the earth; for Allah loveth not any arrogant boaster.

[RK]:"You shall not treat the people with arrogance, nor shall you roam the earth proudly. GOD does not like the arrogant showoffs.

[YA]: A Sign for them is the earth that is dead: We do give it life, and produce grain therefrom, of which ye do eat.

[RK]:One sign for them is the dead land: we revive it and produce from it grains for their food.

[YA]: And he said, "Truly do I love the love of good, with a view to the glory of my Lord,"- until (the sun) was hidden in the veil (of night):

[RK]:He then said, "I enjoyed the material things more than I enjoyed worshipping my Lord, until the sun was gone.

[RK]:He then said, "I enjoyed the material things more than I enjoyed worshipping my Lord, until the sun was gone.

[YA]: As to the Thamud, We gave them Guidance, but they preferred blindness (of heart) to Guidance: so the stunning Punishment of humiliation seized them, because of what they had earned.

[RK]:As for Thamoud, we provided them with guidance, but they preferred blindness over guidance. Consequently, the disastrous and shameful retribution annihilated them, because of what they earned.

Wajazao sayyi-atin sayyi-atun mithluhafaman AAafa waaslaha faajruhu AAalaAllahi innahu la yuhibbu alththalimeenaوجزاء سيئة سيئة مثلها فمن عفا واصلح فاجره علي الله انه لايحب الظالمين
[YA]: The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree): but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah: for (Allah) loveth not those who do wrong.

[RK]:Although the just requital for an injustice is an equivalent retribution, those who pardon and maintain righteousness are rewarded by GOD. He does not love the unjust.

WaiAAlamoo anna feekum rasoola Allahilaw yuteeAAukum fee katheerin mina al-amri laAAanittum walakinnaAllaha habbaba ilaykumu al-eemanawazayyanahu fee quloobikum wakarraha ilaykumu alkufra waalfusooqawaalAAisyana ola-ika humu alrrashidoonaواعلموا ان فيكم رسول الله لو يطيعكم في كثير من الامر لعنتم ولكن الله حبب اليكم الايمان وزينه في قلوبكم وكره اليكم الكفر والفسوق والعصيان اولئك هم الراشدون
[YA]: And know that among you is Allah's Messenger: were he, in many matters, to follow your (wishes), ye would certainly fall into misfortune: But Allah has endeared the Faith to you, and has made it beautiful in your hearts, and He has made hateful to you Unbelief, wickedness, and rebellion: such indeed are those who walk in righteousness;-

[RK]:And know that GOD's messenger has come in your midst. Had he listened to you in many things, you would have made things difficult for yourselves. But GOD made you love faith and adorned it in your hearts, and He made you abhor disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience. These are the guided ones.

Wa-in ta-ifatani minaalmu/mineena iqtataloo faaslihoo baynahumafa-in baghat ihdahuma AAala al-okhrafaqatiloo allatee tabghee hatta tafee-a ilaamri Allahi fa-in faat faaslihoobaynahuma bialAAadli waaqsitoo inna Allahayuhibbu almuqsiteenaوان طائفتان من المؤمنين اقتتلوا فاصلحوا بينهما فان بغت احداهما علي الاخري فقاتلوا التي تبغي حتي تفيئ الي امر الله فان فاءت فاصلحوا بينهما بالعدل واقسطوا ان الله يحب المقسطين
[YA]: If two parties among the Believers fall into a quarrel, make ye peace between them: but if one of them transgresses beyond bounds against the other, then fight ye (all) against the one that transgresses until it complies with the command of Allah; but if it complies, then make peace between them with justice, and be fair: for Allah loves those who are fair (and just).

[RK]:If two groups of believers fought with each other, you shall reconcile them. If one group aggresses against the other, you shall fight the aggressing group until they submit to GOD's command. Once they submit, you shall reconcile the two groups equitably. You shall maintain justice; GOD loves those who are just.

[YA]: In order that ye may not despair over matters that pass you by, nor exult over favours bestowed upon you. For Allah loveth not any vainglorious boaster,-

[RK]:Thus, you should not grieve over anything you miss, nor be proud of anything He has bestowed upon you. GOD does not love those who are boastful, proud.

Waallatheena tabawwaoo alddarawaal-eemana min qablihim yuhibboona man hajarailayhim wala yajidoona fee sudoorihim hajatanmimma ootoo wayu/thiroona AAala anfusihim walaw kanabihim khasasatun waman yooqa shuhha nafsihi faola-ikahumu almuflihoonaوالذين تبوؤوا الدار والايمان من قبلهم يحبون من هاجر اليهم ولايجدون في صدورهم حاجة مما اوتوا ويؤثرون علي انفسهم ولو كان بهم خصاصة ومن يوق شح نفسه فاولئك هم المفلحون
[YA]: But those who before them, had homes (in Medina) and had adopted the Faith,- show their affection to such as came to them for refuge, and entertain no desire in their hearts for things given to the (latter), but give them preference over themselves, even though poverty was their (own lot). And those saved from the covetousness of their own souls,- they are the ones that achieve prosperity.

[RK]:As for those who provided them with a home and a refuge, and were believers before them, they love those who immigrated to them, and find no hesitation in their hearts in helping them. In fact, they readily give them priority over themselves, even when they themselves need what they give away. Indeed, those who overcome their natural stinginess are the successful ones.

La yanhakumu AllahuAAani allatheena lam yuqatilookum fee alddeeniwalam yukhrijookum min diyarikum an tabarroohum watuqsitooilayhim inna Allaha yuhibbu almuqsiteenaلاينهاكم الله عن الذين لم يقاتلوكم في الدين ولم يخرجوكم من دياركم ان تبروهم وتقسطوا اليهم ان الله يحب المقسطين
[YA]: Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah loveth those who are just.

[RK]:GOD does not enjoin you from befriending those who do not fight you because of religion, and do not evict you from your homes. You may befriend them and be equitable towards them. GOD loves the equitable.

Inna Allaha yuhibbu allatheenayuqatiloona fee sabeelihi saffan kaannahum bunyanunmarsoosunان الله يحب الذين يقاتلون في سبيله صفا كانهم بنيان مرصوص
[YA]: Truly Allah loves those who fight in His Cause in battle array, as if they were a solid cemented structure.

[RK]:GOD loves those who fight in His cause united in one column, like the bricks in one wall.

Waokhra tuhibboonaha nasrunmina Allahi wafathun qarreebun wabashshirialmu/mineenaواخري تحبونها نصر من الله وفتح قريب وبشر المؤمنين
[YA]: And another (favour will He bestow,) which ye do love,- help from Allah and a speedy victory. So give the Glad Tidings to the Believers.

[RK]:Additionally, you get something you truly love: support from GOD and guaranteed victory. Give good news to the believers.

[YA]: Nay, (ye men!) but ye love the fleeting life,

[RK]:Indeed, you love this fleeting life.

[YA]: And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,-

[RK]:They donate their favorite food to the poor, the orphan, and the captive.

[YA]: As to these, they love the fleeting life, and put away behind them a Day (that will be) hard.

[RK]:These people are preoccupied with this fleeting life, while disregarding - just ahead of them - a heavy day.
