[YA]: "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped-

[RK]:They will be asked, "Where are the idols you had worshipped

ولقد اتينا داود وسليمان علما وقالا الحمد لله الذي فضلنا علي كثير من عباده المؤمنين

[YA]: We gave (in the past) knowledge to David and Solomon: And they both said: "Praise be to Allah, Who has favoured us above many of his servants who believe!"

[RK]:We endowed David and Solomon with knowledge, and they said, "Praise GOD for blessing us more than many of His believing servants."

Fatabassama dahikan min qawlihawaqala rabbi awziAAnee an ashkura niAAmataka allateeanAAamta AAalayya waAAala walidayya waan aAAmala salihantardahu waadkhilnee birahmatika fee AAibadikaalssaliheena

فتبسم ضاحكا من قولها وقال رب اوزعني ان اشكر نعمتك التي انعمت علي وعلي والدي وان اعمل صالحا ترضاه وادخلني برحمتك في عبادك الصالحين

[YA]: So he smiled, amused at her speech; and he said: "O my Lord! so order me that I may be grateful for Thy favours, which thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may work the righteousness that will please Thee: And admit me, by Thy Grace, to the ranks of Thy righteous Servants."

[RK]:He smiled and laughed at her statement, and said, "My Lord, direct me to be appreciative of the blessings You have bestowed upon me and my parents, and to do the righteous works that please You. Admit me by Your mercy into the company of Your righteous servants."

Wasaddaha ma kanattaAAbudu min dooni Allahi innaha kanat minqawmin kafireena

وصدها ماكانت تعبد من دون الله انها كانت من قوم كافرين

[YA]: And he diverted her from the worship of others besides Allah: for she was (sprung) of a people that had no faith.

[RK]:She had been diverted by worshipping idols instead of GOD; she belonged to disbelieving people.

Walaqad arsalna ila thamoodaakhahum salihan ani oAAbudoo Allahafa-itha hum fareeqani yakhtasimoona

ولقد ارسلنا الي ثمود اخاهم صالحا ان اعبدوا الله فاذا هم فريقان يختصمون

[YA]: We sent (aforetime), to the Thamud, their brother Salih, saying, "Serve Allah": But behold, they became two factions quarrelling with each other.

[RK]:We have sent to Thamoud their brother Saaleh, saying, "You shall worship GOD." But they turned into two feuding factions.

Quli alhamdu lillahi wasalamunAAala AAibadihi allatheena istafaallahu khayrun amma yushrikoona

قل الحمد لله وسلام علي عباده الذين اصطفي ءالله خير اما يشركون

[YA]: Say: Praise be to Allah, and Peace on his servants whom He has chosen (for his Message). (Who) is better?- Allah or the false gods they associate (with Him)?

[RK]:Say, "Praise be to GOD and peace be upon His servants whom He chose. Is GOD better, or the idols some people set up?"

Innama omirtu an aAAbuda rabba hathihialbaldati allathee harramaha walahu kullushay-in waomirtu an akoona mina almuslimeena

انما امرت ان اعبد رب هذه البلدة الذي حرمها وله كل شئ وامرت ان اكون من المسلمين

[YA]: For me, I have been commanded to serve the Lord of this city, Him Who has sanctified it and to Whom (belong) all things: and I am commanded to be of those who bow in Islam to Allah's Will,-

[RK]:I am simply commanded to worship the Lord of this town - He has made it a safe sanctuary - and He possesses all things. I am commanded to be a submitter.

Qala allatheena haqqaAAalayhimu alqawlu rabbana haola-i allatheenaaghwayna aghwaynahum kama ghawaynatabarra/na ilayka ma kanoo iyyanayaAAbudoona

قال الذين حق عليهم القول ربنا هؤلاء الذين اغوينا اغويناهم كما غوينا تبرانا اليك ماكانوا ايانا يعبدون

[YA]: Those against whom the charge will be proved, will say: "Our Lord! These are the ones whom we led astray: we led them astray, as we were astray ourselves: we free ourselves (from them) in Thy presence: it was not us they worshipped."

[RK]:Those who incurred the judgment will say, "Our Lord, these are the ones we misled; we misled them only because we ourselves had gone astray. We now devote ourselves totally to You. They were not really worshipping us."

Waasbaha allatheenatamannaw makanahu bial-amsi yaqooloona waykaannaAllaha yabsutu alrrizqa liman yashaomin AAibadihi wayaqdiru lawla an manna AllahuAAalayna lakhasafa bina waykaannahu la yuflihualkafiroona

واصبح الذين تمنوا مكانه بالامس يقولون ويكان الله يبسط الرزق لمن يشاء من عباده ويقدر لولا ان من الله علينا لخسف بنا ويكانه لايفلح الكافرون

[YA]: And those who had envied his position the day before began to say on the morrow: "Ah! it is indeed Allah Who enlarges the provision or restricts it, to any of His servants He pleases! had it not been that Allah was gracious to us, He could have caused the earth to swallow us up! Ah! those who reject Allah will assuredly never prosper."

[RK]:Those who were envious of him the day before said, "Now we realize that GOD is the One who provides for whomever He chooses from among His servants, and withholds. If it were not for GOD's grace towards us, He could have caused the earth to swallow us too. We now realize that the disbelievers never succeed."

Wa-ibraheema ith qalaliqawmihi oAAbudoo Allaha waittaqoohu thalikumkhayrun lakum in kuntum taAAlamoona

وابراهيم اذ قال لقومه اعبدوا الله واتقوه ذلكم خير لكم ان كنتم تعلمون

[YA]: And (We also saved) Abraham: behold, he said to his people, "Serve Allah and fear Him: that will be best for you- If ye understand!

[RK]:Abraham said to his people, "You shall worship GOD, and reverence Him. This is better for you, if you only knew.

Innama taAAbudoona min dooni Allahiawthanan watakhluqoona ifkan inna allatheenataAAbudoona min dooni Allahi la yamlikoona lakumrizqan faibtaghoo AAinda Allahi alrrizqa waoAAbudoohuwaoshkuroo lahu ilayhi turjaAAoona

انما تعبدون من دون الله اوثانا وتخلقون افكا ان الذين تعبدون من دون الله لايملكون لكم رزقا فابتغوا عند الله الرزق واعبدوه واشكروا له اليه ترجعون

[YA]: "For ye do worship idols besides Allah, and ye invent falsehood. The things that ye worship besides Allah have no power to give you sustenance: then seek ye sustenance from Allah, serve Him, and be grateful to Him: to Him will be your return.

[RK]:"What you worship instead of GOD are powerless idols; you have invented a lie." The idols you worship beside GOD do not possess any provisions for you. Therefore, you shall seek provisions only from GOD. You shall worship Him alone, and be appreciative of Him; to Him is your ultimate return.

والي مدين اخاهم شعيبا فقال ياقوم اعبدوا الله وارجوا اليوم الاخر ولاتعثوا في الارض مفسدين

[YA]: To the Madyan (people) (We sent) their brother Shu'aib. Then he said: "O my people! serve Allah, and fear the Last Day: nor commit evil on the earth, with intent to do mischief."

[RK]:To Midyan we sent their brother Shu`aib. He said, "O my people, you shall worship GOD and seek the Last Day, and do not roam the earth corruptingly."

Ya AAibadiya allatheenaamanoo inna ardee wasiAAatun fa-iyyayafaoAAbudooni

ياعبادي الذين امنوا ان ارضي واسعة فاياي فاعبدون

[YA]: O My servants who believe! truly, spacious is My Earth: therefore serve ye Me - (and Me alone)!

[RK]:O My servants who believed, My earth is spacious, so worship Me.

Ya AAibadiya allatheenaamanoo inna ardee wasiAAatun fa-iyyayafaoAAbudooni

ياعبادي الذين امنوا ان ارضي واسعة فاياي فاعبدون

[YA]: O My servants who believe! truly, spacious is My Earth: therefore serve ye Me - (and Me alone)!

[RK]:O My servants who believed, My earth is spacious, so worship Me.

Allahu yabsutu alrrizqaliman yashao min AAibadihi wayaqdiru lahu inna Allahabikulli shay-in AAaleemun

الله يبسط الرزق لمن يشاء من عباده ويقدر له ان الله بكل شئ عليم

[YA]: Allah enlarges the sustenance (which He gives) to whichever of His servants He pleases; and He (similarly) grants by (strict) measure, (as He pleases): for Allah has full knowledge of all things.

[RK]:GOD is the One who increases the provision for whomever He chooses from among His creatures, and withholds it. GOD is fully aware of all things.

Allahu allathee yursilu alrriyahafatutheeru sahaban fayabsutuhu fee alssama-ikayfa yashao wayajAAaluhu kisafan fatara alwadqayakhruju min khilalihi fa-itha asaba bihiman yashao min AAibadihi itha humyastabshiroona

الله الذي يرسل الرياح فتثير سحابا فيبسطه في السماء كيف يشاء ويجعله كسفا فتري الودق يخرج من خلاله فاذا اصاب به من يشاء من عباده اذا هم يستبشرون

[YA]: It is Allah Who sends the Winds, and they raise the Clouds: then does He spread them in the sky as He wills, and break them into fragments, until thou seest rain-drops issue from the midst thereof: then when He has made them reach such of his servants as He wills behold, they do rejoice!-

[RK]:GOD is the One who sends the winds, to stir up clouds, to be spread throughout the sky in accordance with His will. He then piles the clouds up, then you see the rain coming down therefrom. When it falls on whomever He chooses from among His servants, they rejoice.

Afalam yaraw ila ma baynaaydeehim wama khalfahum mina alssama-i waal-ardiin nasha/ nakhsif bihimu al-arda aw nusqitAAalayhim kisafan mina alssama-i inna fee thalikalaayatan likulli AAabdin muneebin

افلم يروا الي مابين ايديهم وماخلفهم من السماء والارض ان نشا نخسف بهم الارض او نسقط عليهم كسفا من السماء ان في ذلك لاية لكل عبد منيب

[YA]: See they not what is before them and behind them, of the sky and the earth? If We wished, We could cause the earth to swallow them up, or cause a piece of the sky to fall upon them. Verily in this is a Sign for every devotee that turns to Allah (in repentance).

[RK]:Have they not seen all the things in front of them and behind them, in the heaven and the earth? If we willed, we could have caused the earth to swallow them, or caused masses to fall on them from the sky. This should be a sufficient proof for every obedient servant.

YaAAmaloona lahu ma yashao minmahareeba watamatheela wajifanin kaaljawabiwaqudoorin rasiyatin iAAmaloo ala dawoodashukran waqaleelun min AAibadiya alshshakooru

يعملون له مايشاء من محاريب وتماثيل وجفان كالجواب وقدور راسيات اعملوا ال داود شكرا وقليل من عبادي الشكور

[YA]: They worked for him as he desired, (making) arches, images, basons as large as reservoirs, and (cooking) cauldrons fixed (in their places): "Work ye, sons of David, with thanks! but few of My servants are grateful!"

[RK]:They made for him anything he wanted - niches, statues, deep pools, and heavy cooking pots. O family of David, work (righteousness) to show your appreciation. Only a few of My servants are appreciative.

Qul inna rabbee yabsutu alrrizqaliman yashao min AAibadihi wayaqdiru lahu wamaanfaqtum min shay-in fahuwa yukhlifuhu wahuwa khayru alrraziqeena

قل ان ربي يبسط الرزق لمن يشاء من عباده ويقدر له وماانفقتم من شئ فهو يخلفه وهو خير الرازقين

[YA]: Say: "Verily my Lord enlarges and restricts the Sustenance to such of his servants as He pleases: and nothing do ye spend in the least (in His cause) but He replaces it: for He is the Best of those who grant Sustenance.

[RK]:Say, "My Lord is the One who controls all provisions; He increases the provisions for whomever He chooses from among His servants, or reduces them. Anything you spend (in the cause of God), He will reward you for it; He is the Best Provider."

Wayawma yahshuruhum jameeAAan thummayaqoolu lilmala-ikati ahaola-i iyyakumkanoo yaAAbudoona

ويوم يحشرهم جميعا ثم يقول للملائكة اهؤلاء اياكم كانوا يعبدون

[YA]: One Day He will gather them all together, and say to the angels, "Was it you that these men used to worship?"

[RK]:On the day when He summons them all, He will say to the angels, "Did these people worship you?"

Qaloo subhanaka anta waliyyunamin doonihim bal kanoo yaAAbudoona aljinna aktharuhumbihim mu/minoona

قالوا سبحانك انت ولينا من دونهم بل كانوا يعبدون الجن اكثرهم بهم مؤمنون

[YA]: They will say, "Glory to Thee! our (tie) is with Thee - as Protector - not with them. Nay, but they worshipped the Jinns: most of them believed in them."

[RK]:They will answer, "Be You glorified. You are our Lord and Master, not them. Instead, they were worshipping the jinns; most of them were believers therein."

Wa-itha tutla AAalayhim ayatunabayyinatin qaloo ma hatha illarajulun yureedu an yasuddakum AAamma kanayaAAbudu abaokum waqaloo ma hathailla ifkun muftaran waqala allatheenakafaroo lilhaqqi lamma jaahum in hathailla sihrun mubeenun

واذا تتلي عليهم اياتنا بينات قالوا ماهذا الا رجل يريد ان يصدكم عما كان يعبد اباؤكم وقالوا ماهذا الا افك مفتري وقال الذين كفروا للحق لما جاءهم ان هذا الا سحر مبين

[YA]: When Our Clear Signs are rehearsed to them, they say, "This is only a man who wishes to hinder you from the (worship) which your fathers practised." And they say, "This is only a falsehood invented!" and the Unbelievers say of the Truth when it comes to them, "This is nothing but evident magic!"

[RK]:When our proofs were recited to them, perfectly clear, they said, "This is simply a man who wants to divert you from the way your parents are worshipping." They also said, "These are fabricated lies." Those who disbelieved also said about the truth that came to them, "This is obviously magic."

Wamina alnnasi waalddawabbiwaal-anAAami mukhtalifun alwanuhu kathalikainnama yakhsha Allaha min AAibadihialAAulamao inna Allaha AAazeezun ghafoorun

ومن الناس والدواب والانعام مختلف الوانه كذلك انما يخشي الله من عباده العلماء ان الله عزيز غفور

[YA]: And so amongst men and crawling creatures and cattle, are they of various colours. Those truly fear Allah, among His Servants, who have knowledge: for Allah is Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving.

[RK]:Also, the people, the animals, and the livestock come in various colors. This is why the people who truly reverence GOD are those who are knowledgeable. GOD is Almighty, Forgiving.

Waallathee awhaynailayka mina alkitabi huwa alhaqqu musaddiqanlima bayna yadayhi inna Allaha biAAibadihilakhabeerun baseerun

والذي اوحينا اليك من الكتاب هو الحق مصدقا لما بين يديه ان الله بعباده لخبير بصير

[YA]: That which We have revealed to thee of the Book is the Truth,- confirming what was (revealed) before it: for Allah is assuredly- with respect to His Servants - well acquainted and Fully Observant.

[RK]:What we revealed to you in this scripture is the truth, consummating all previous scriptures. GOD is fully Cognizant of His servants, Seer.

Thumma awrathna alkitaba allatheenaistafayna min AAibadina faminhum thalimunlinafsihi waminhum muqtasidun waminhum sabiqun bialkhayratibi-ithni Allahi thalika huwa alfadlualkabeeru

ثم اورثنا الكتاب الذين اصطفينا من عبادنا فمنهم ظالم لنفسه ومنهم مقتصد ومنهم سابق بالخيرات باذن الله ذلك هو الفضل الكبير

[YA]: Then We have given the Book for inheritance to such of Our Servants as We have chosen: but there are among them some who wrong their own souls; some who follow a middle course; and some who are, by Allah's leave, foremost in good deeds; that is the highest Grace.

[RK]:We passed the scripture from generation to generation, and we allowed whomever we chose from among our servants to receive it. Subsequently, some of them wronged their souls, others upheld it only part of the time, while others were eager to work righteousness in accordance with GOD's will; this is the greatest triumph.

Walaw yu-akhithu Allahualnnasa bima kasaboo ma taraka AAalathahriha min dabbatin walakinyu-akhkhiruhum ila ajalin musamman fa-itha jaaajaluhum fa-inna Allaha kana biAAibadihi baseeran

ولو يؤاخذ الله الناس بما كسبوا ماترك علي ظهرها من دابة ولكن يؤخرهم الي اجل مسمي فاذا جاء اجلهم فان الله كان بعباده بصيرا

[YA]: If Allah were to punish men according to what they deserve. He would not leave on the back of the (earth) a single living creature: but He gives them respite for a stated Term: when their Term expires, verily Allah has in His sight all His Servants.

[RK]:If GOD punished the people for their sins, He would not leave a single creature on earth. But He respites them for a predetermined interim. Once their interim is fulfilled, then GOD is Seer of His servants.

Wama liya la aAAbudu allatheefataranee wa-ilayhi turjaAAoona

ومالي لااعبد الذي فطرني واليه ترجعون

[YA]: "It would not be reasonable in me if I did not serve Him Who created me, and to Whom ye shall (all) be brought back.

[RK]:"Why should I not worship the One who initiated me, and to Him is your ultimate return?

Ya hasratan AAalaalAAibadi ma ya/teehim min rasoolin illa kanoobihi yastahzi-oona

ياحسرة علي العباد ماياتيهم من رسول الا كانوا به يستهزؤون

[YA]: Ah! Alas for (My) Servants! There comes not a messenger to them but they mock him!

[RK]:How sorry is the people's condition! Every time a messenger went to them, they always ridiculed him.

Alam aAAhad ilaykum ya banee adamaan la taAAbudoo alshshaytana innahu lakumAAaduwwun mubeenun

الم اعهد اليكم يابني ادم ان لاتعبدوا الشيطان انه لكم عدو مبين

[YA]: "Did I not enjoin on you, O ye Children of Adam, that ye should not worship Satan; for that he was to you an enemy avowed?-

[RK]:Did I not covenant with you, O Children of Adam, that you shall not worship the devil? That he is your most ardent enemy?

Waani oAAbudoonee hatha siratunmustaqeemun

وان اعبدوني هذا صراط مستقيم

[YA]: "And that ye should worship Me, (for that) this was the Straight Way?

[RK]:And that you shall worship Me alone? This is the right path.

[YA]: "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped-

[RK]:Summon the transgressors, and their spouses, and the idols they worshipped

الا عباد الله المخلصين

[YA]: But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,-

[RK]:Only GOD's servants who are absolutely devoted to Him alone (will be saved).

اصبر علي مايقولون واذكر عبدنا داؤود ذا الايد انه اواب

[YA]: Have patience at what they say, and remember our servant David, the man of strength: for he ever turned (to Allah).

[RK]:Be patient in the face of their utterances, and remember our servant David, the resourceful; he was obedient.

Wawahabna lidawooda sulaymananiAAma alAAabdu innahu awwabun

ووهبنا لداود سليمان نعم العبد انه اواب

[YA]: To David We gave Solomon (for a son),- How excellent in Our service! Ever did he turn (to Us)!

[RK]:To David we granted Solomon; a good and obedient servant.

Waothkur AAabdanaayyooba ith nada rabbahu annee massaniya alshshaytanubinusbin waAAathabin

واذكر عبدنا ايوب اذ نادي ربه اني مسني الشيطان بنصب وعذاب

[YA]: Commemorate Our Servant Job. Behold he cried to his Lord: "The Evil One has afflicted me with distress and suffering!"

[RK]:Remember our servant Job: he called upon his Lord, "The devil has afflicted me with hardship and pain."

Wakhuth biyadika dighthan faidribbihi wala tahnath inna wajadnahu sabiranniAAma alAAabdu innahu awwabun

وخذ بيدك ضغثا فاضرب به ولاتحنث انا وجدناه صابرا نعم العبد انه اواب

[YA]: "And take in thy hand a little grass, and strike therewith: and break not (thy oath)." Truly We found him full of patience and constancy. How excellent in Our service! ever did he turn (to Us)!

[RK]:"Now, you shall travel the land and preach the message, to fulfill your pledge." We found him steadfast. What a good servant! He was a submitter.
