Fakaththaboohu faakhathahumAAathabu yawmi alththullati innahu kanaAAathaba yawmin AAatheeminفكذبوه فاخذهم عذاب يوم الظلة انه كان عذاب يوم عظيم
[YA]: But they rejected him. Then the punishment of a day of overshadowing gloom seized them, and that was the Penalty of a Great Day.

[RK]:They disbelieved him and, consequently, they incurred the retribution of the Day of the Canopy. It was the retribution of an awesome day.

[YA]: So We seized him and his hosts, and We flung them into the sea: Now behold what was the end of those who did wrong!

[RK]:Consequently, we punished him and his troops, by throwing them into the sea. Note the consequences for the transgressors.

Walaqad arsalna noohan ilaqawmihi falabitha feehim alfa sanatin illa khamseena AAamanfaakhathahumu alttoofanu wahum thalimoonaولقد ارسلنا نوحا الي قومه فلبث فيهم الف سنة الا خمسين عاما فاخذهم الطوفان وهم ظالمون
[YA]: We (once) sent Noah to his people, and he tarried among them a thousand years less fifty: but the Deluge overwhelmed them while they (persisted in) sin.

[RK]:We sent Noah to his people, and he stayed with them one thousand years, less fifty. Subsequently, they incurred the flood because of their transgressions.

Fakaththaboohu faakhathat-humualrrajfatu faasbahoo fee darihim jathimeenaفكذبوه فاخذتهم الرجفة فاصبحوا في دارهم جاثمين
[YA]: But they rejected him: Then the mighty Blast seized them, and they lay prostrate in their homes by the morning.

[RK]:They disbelieved him and, consequently, the earthquake annihilated them; they were left dead in their homes by morning.

Fakullan akhathna bithanbihifaminhum man arsalna AAalayhi hasiban waminhum manakhathat-hu alssayhatu waminhum mankhasafna bihi al-arda waminhum man aghraqnawama kana Allahu liyathlimahumwalakin kanoo anfusahum yathlimoonaفكلا اخذنا بذنبه فمنهم من ارسلنا عليه حاصبا ومنهم من اخذته الصيحة ومنهم من خسفنا به الارض ومنهم من اغرقنا وماكان الله ليظلمهم ولكن كانوا انفسهم يظلمون
[YA]: Each one of them We seized for his crime: of them, against some We sent a violent tornado (with showers of stones); some were caught by a (mighty) Blast; some We caused the earth to swallow up; and some We drowned (in the waters): It was not Allah Who injured (or oppressed) them:" They injured (and oppressed) their own souls.

[RK]:All those disbelievers were doomed as a consequence of their sins. Some of them we annihilated by violent winds, some were annihilated by the quake, some we caused the earth to swallow, and some we drowned. GOD is not the One who wronged them; it is they who wronged their own souls.

Fakullan akhathna bithanbihifaminhum man arsalna AAalayhi hasiban waminhum manakhathat-hu alssayhatu waminhum mankhasafna bihi al-arda waminhum man aghraqnawama kana Allahu liyathlimahumwalakin kanoo anfusahum yathlimoonaفكلا اخذنا بذنبه فمنهم من ارسلنا عليه حاصبا ومنهم من اخذته الصيحة ومنهم من خسفنا به الارض ومنهم من اغرقنا وماكان الله ليظلمهم ولكن كانوا انفسهم يظلمون
[YA]: Each one of them We seized for his crime: of them, against some We sent a violent tornado (with showers of stones); some were caught by a (mighty) Blast; some We caused the earth to swallow up; and some We drowned (in the waters): It was not Allah Who injured (or oppressed) them:" They injured (and oppressed) their own souls.

[RK]:All those disbelievers were doomed as a consequence of their sins. Some of them we annihilated by violent winds, some were annihilated by the quake, some we caused the earth to swallow, and some we drowned. GOD is not the One who wronged them; it is they who wronged their own souls.

[YA]: And remember We took from the prophets their covenant: As (We did) from thee: from Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus the son of Mary: We took from them a solemn covenant:

[RK]:Recall that we took from the prophets their covenant, including you (O Muhammad), Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus the son of Mary. We took from them a solemn pledge.

[YA]: And remember We took from the prophets their covenant: As (We did) from thee: from Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus the son of Mary: We took from them a solemn covenant:

[RK]:Recall that we took from the prophets their covenant, including you (O Muhammad), Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus the son of Mary. We took from them a solemn pledge.

MalAAooneena ayna ma thuqifoo okhithoowaquttiloo taqteelanملعونين اينما ثقفوا اخذوا وقتلوا تقتيلا
[YA]: They shall have a curse on them: whenever they are found, they shall be seized and slain (without mercy).

[RK]:They have incurred condemnation wherever they go; (unless they stop attacking you,) they may be taken and killed.

[YA]: If thou couldst but see when they will quake with terror; but then there will be no escape (for them), and they will be seized from a position (quite) near.

[RK]:If you could only see them when the great terror strikes them; they cannot escape then, and they will be taken away forcibly.

[YA]: In the end did I punish those who rejected Faith: and how (terrible) was My rejection (of them)!

[RK]:Subsequently, I punished those who disbelieved; how terrible was My retribution!

Walaw yu-akhithu Allahualnnasa bima kasaboo ma taraka AAalathahriha min dabbatin walakinyu-akhkhiruhum ila ajalin musamman fa-itha jaaajaluhum fa-inna Allaha kana biAAibadihi baseeranولو يؤاخذ الله الناس بما كسبوا ماترك علي ظهرها من دابة ولكن يؤخرهم الي اجل مسمي فاذا جاء اجلهم فان الله كان بعباده بصيرا
[YA]: If Allah were to punish men according to what they deserve. He would not leave on the back of the (earth) a single living creature: but He gives them respite for a stated Term: when their Term expires, verily Allah has in His sight all His Servants.

[RK]:If GOD punished the people for their sins, He would not leave a single creature on earth. But He respites them for a predetermined interim. Once their interim is fulfilled, then GOD is Seer of His servants.

Wakhuth biyadika dighthan faidribbihi wala tahnath inna wajadnahu sabiranniAAma alAAabdu innahu awwabunوخذ بيدك ضغثا فاضرب به ولاتحنث انا وجدناه صابرا نعم العبد انه اواب
[YA]: "And take in thy hand a little grass, and strike therewith: and break not (thy oath)." Truly We found him full of patience and constancy. How excellent in Our service! ever did he turn (to Us)!

[RK]:"Now, you shall travel the land and preach the message, to fulfill your pledge." We found him steadfast. What a good servant! He was a submitter.

Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohinwaal-ahzabu min baAAdihim wahammat kulluommatin birasoolihim liya/khuthoohu wajadaloo bialbatililiyudhidoo bihi alhaqqa faakhathtuhumfakayfa kana AAiqabiكذبت قبلهم قوم نوح والاحزاب من بعدهم وهمت كل امة برسولهم لياخذوه وجادلوا بالباطل ليدحضوا به الحق فاخذتهم فكيف كان عقاب
[YA]: But (there were people) before them, who denied (the Signs),- the People of Noah, and the Confederates (of Evil) after them; and every People plotted against their prophet, to seize him, and disputed by means of vanities, therewith to condemn the Truth; but it was I that seized them! and how (terrible) was My Requital!

[RK]:Disbelieving before them were the people of Noah, and many other opponents after them. Every community persecuted their messenger to neutralize him. And they argued with falsehood, to defeat the truth. Consequently, I punished them; how terrible was My retribution!

Awa lam yaseeroo fee al-ardi fayanthurookayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena kanoomin qablihim kanoo hum ashadda minhum quwwatan waatharanfee al-ardi faakhathahumu Allahu bithunoobihimwama kana lahum mina Allahi min waqinاولم يسيروا في الارض فينظروا كيف كان عاقبة الذين كانوا من قبلهم كانوا هم اشد منهم قوة واثارا في الارض فاخذهم الله بذنوبهم وماكان لهم من الله من واق
[YA]: Do they not travel through the earth and see what was the End of those before them? They were even superior to them in strength, and in the traces (they have left) in the land: but Allah did call them to account for their sins, and none had they to defend them against Allah.

[RK]:Did they not roam the earth and note the consequences for those before them? They used to be stronger than they, and more productive on earth. But GOD punished them for their sins, and nothing could protect them from GOD.

Thalika bi-annahum kanatta/teehim rusuluhum bialbayyinati fakafaroo faakhathahumuAllahu innahu qawiyyun shadeedu alAAiqabiذلك بانهم كانت تاتيهم رسلهم بالبينات فكفروا فاخذهم الله انه قوي شديد العقاب
[YA]: That was because there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs), but they rejected them: So Allah called them to account: for He is Full of Strength, Strict in Punishment.

[RK]:That is because their messengers went to them with clear proofs, but they disbelieved. Consequently, GOD punished them. He is Mighty, strict in enforcing retribution.

Faarsalna AAalayhim reehan sarsaranfee ayyamin nahisatin linutheeqahumAAathaba alkhizyi fee alhayati alddunyawalaAAathabu al-akhirati akhza wahum layunsaroonaفارسلنا عليهم ريحا صرصرا في ايام نحسات لنذيقهم عذاب الخزي في الحياة الدنيا ولعذاب الاخرة اخزي وهم لاينصرون
[YA]: So We sent against them a furious Wind through days of disaster, that We might give them a taste of a Penalty of humiliation in this life; but the Penalty of a Hereafter will be more humiliating still: and they will find no help.

[RK]:Consequently, we sent upon them violent wind, for a few miserable days. We thus afflicted them with humiliating retribution in this life, and the retribution of the Hereafter is more humiliating; they can never win.

Waamma thamoodu fahadaynahumfaistahabboo alAAama AAala alhudafaakhathat-hum saAAiqatu alAAathabi alhoonibima kanoo yaksiboonaواما ثمود فهديناهم فاستحبوا العمي علي الهدي فاخذتهم صاعقة العذاب الهون بما كانوا يكسبون
[YA]: As to the Thamud, We gave them Guidance, but they preferred blindness (of heart) to Guidance: so the stunning Punishment of humiliation seized them, because of what they had earned.

[RK]:As for Thamoud, we provided them with guidance, but they preferred blindness over guidance. Consequently, the disastrous and shameful retribution annihilated them, because of what they earned.

Wama nureehim min ayatin illahiya akbaru min okhtiha waakhathnahum bialAAathabilaAAallahum yarjiAAoonaومانريهم من اية الا هي اكبر من اختها واخذناهم بالعذاب لعلهم يرجعون
[YA]: We showed them Sign after Sign, each greater than its fellow, and We seized them with Punishment, in order that they might turn (to Us).

[RK]:Every sign we showed them was bigger than the one before it. We afflicted them with the plagues, perhaps they repent.

[YA]: (A voice will cry: "Seize ye him and drag him into the midst of the Blazing Fire!

[RK]:Take him and throw him into the center of Hell.

Wamaghanima katheeratan ya/khuthoonahawakana Allahu AAazeezan hakeemanومغانم كثيرة ياخذونها وكان الله عزيزا حكيما
[YA]: And many gains will they acquire (besides): and Allah is Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom.

[RK]:Additionally, they gained many spoils. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.

[YA]: Taking joy in the things which their Lord gives them, because, before then, they lived a good life.

[RK]:They receive their Lord's rewards, for they used to be pious.

[YA]: So We took him and his forces, and threw them into the sea; and his was the blame.

[RK]:Consequently, we punished him and his troops. We threw them into the sea, and he is the one to blame.

FaAAataw AAan amri rabbihim faakhathat-humualssaAAiqatu wahum yanthuroonaفعتوا عن امر ربهم فاخذتهم الصاعقة وهم ينظرون
[YA]: But they insolently defied the Command of their Lord: So the stunning noise (of an earthquake) seized them, even while they were looking on.

[RK]:They rebelled against the command of their Lord. Consequently, the lightning struck them as they looked.

Kaththaboo bi-ayatinakulliha faakhathnahum akhthaAAazeezin muqtadirinكذبوا باياتنا كلها فاخذناهم اخذ عزيز مقتدر
[YA]: The (people) rejected all Our Signs; but We seized them with such Penalty (as comes) from One Exalted in Power, able to carry out His Will.

[RK]:They rejected all our signs. Consequently, we requited them as an Almighty, Omnipotent should.

[YA]: The (people) rejected all Our Signs; but We seized them with such Penalty (as comes) from One Exalted in Power, able to carry out His Will.

[RK]:They rejected all our signs. Consequently, we requited them as an Almighty, Omnipotent should.

[YA]: (For) the sinners will be known by their marks: and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet.

[RK]:(This is because) the guilty will be recognized by their looks; they will be taken by the forelocks and the feet.

Wama lakum la tu/minoona biAllahiwaalrrasoolu yadAAookum litu/minoo birabbikum waqad akhathameethaqakum in kuntum mu/mineenaومالكم لاتؤمنون بالله والرسول يدعوكم لتؤمنوا بربكم وقد اخذ ميثقاكم ان كنتم مؤمنين
[YA]: What cause have ye why ye should not believe in Allah?- and the Messenger invites you to believe in your Lord, and has indeed taken your Covenant, if ye are men of Faith.

[RK]:Why should you not believe in GOD when the messenger is inviting you to believe in your Lord? He has taken a pledge from you, if you are believers.

Faalyawma la yu/khathuminkum fidyatun wala mina allatheena kafaroo ma/wakumualnnaru hiya mawlakum wabi/sa almaseeruفاليوم لايؤخذ منكم فدية ولامن الذين كفروا ماواكم النار هي مولاكم وبئس المصير
[YA]: "This Day shall no ransom be accepted of you, nor of those who rejected Allah." Your abode is the Fire: that is the proper place to claim you: and an evil refuge it is!"

[RK]:"Therefore, today no ransom can be taken from you, nor from those who disbelieved. Your abode is the fire; it is your lord, and miserable abode."

Ma afaa Allahu AAalarasoolihi min ahli alqura falillahi walilrrasooliwalithee alqurba waalyatama waalmasakeeniwaibni alssabeeli kay la yakoona doolatanbayna al-aghniya-i minkum wama atakumualrrasoolu fakhuthoohu wama nahakumAAanhu faintahoo waittaqoo Allaha inna Allahashadeedu alAAiqabiماافاء الله علي رسوله من اهل القري فلله وللرسول ولذي القربي واليتامي والمساكين وابن السبيل كي لايكون دولة بين الاغنياء منكم ومااتاكم الرسول فخذوه ومانهاكم عنه فانتهوا واتقوا الله ان الله شديد العقاب
[YA]: What Allah has bestowed on His Messenger (and taken away) from the people of the townships,- belongs to Allah,- to His Messenger and to kindred and orphans, the needy and the wayfarer; In order that it may not (merely) make a circuit between the wealthy among you. So take what the Messenger assigns to you, and deny yourselves that which he withholds from you. And fear Allah; for Allah is strict in Punishment.

[RK]:Whatever GOD restored to His messenger from the (defeated) communities shall go to GOD and His messenger (in the form of a charity). You shall give it to the relatives, the orphans, the poor, and the traveling alien. Thus, it will not remain monopolized by the strong among you. You may keep the spoils given to you by the messenger, but do not take what he enjoins you from taking. You shall reverence GOD. GOD is strict in enforcing retribution.

[YA]: And disobeyed (each) the messenger of their Lord; so He punished them with an abundant Penalty.

[RK]:They disobeyed the messenger of their Lord. Consequently, He requited them a devastating requital.

FaAAasaw rasoola rabbihim faakhathahumakhthatan rabiyatanفعصوا رسول ربهم فاخذهم اخذة رابية
[YA]: And disobeyed (each) the messenger of their Lord; so He punished them with an abundant Penalty.

[RK]:They disobeyed the messenger of their Lord. Consequently, He requited them a devastating requital.

[YA]: (The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him,

[RK]:Take him and shackle him.

[YA]: We should certainly seize him by his right hand,

[RK]:We would have punished him.

[YA]: But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment.

[RK]:Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger and, consequently, we punished him severely.

[YA]: But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment.

[RK]:Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger and, consequently, we punished him severely.

Faakhathahu Allahu nakalaal-akhirati waal-oolaفاخذه الله نكال الاخرة والاولي
[YA]: But Allah did punish him, (and made an) example of him, - in the Hereafter, as in this life.

[RK]:Consequently, GOD committed him to the retribution in the Hereafter, as well as in the first life.
