انا زينا السماء الدنيا بزينة الكواكب

[YA]: We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars,-

[RK]:We have adorned the lowest heaven with adorning planets.

Qul ya AAibadi allatheenaamanoo ittaqoo rabbakum lillatheena ahsanoofee hathihi alddunya hasanatun waarduAllahi wasiAAatun innama yuwaffa alssabiroonaajrahum bighayri hisabin

قل ياعباد الذين امنوا اتقوا ربكم للذين احسنوا في هذه الدنيا حسنة وارض الله واسعة انما يوفي الصابرون اجرهم بغير حساب

[YA]: Say: "O ye my servants who believe! Fear your Lord, good is (the reward) for those who do good in this world. Spacious is Allah's earth! those who patiently persevere will truly receive a reward without measure!"

[RK]:Say, "O My servants who believed, you shall reverence your Lord." For those who worked righteousness in this world, a good reward. GOD's earth is spacious, and those who steadfastly persevere will receive their recompense generously, without limits.

Faathaqahumu Allahu alkhizyafee alhayati alddunya walaAAathabual-akhirati akbaru law kanoo yaAAlamoona

فاذاقهم الله الخزي في الحياة الدنيا ولعذاب الاخرة اكبر لو كانوا يعلمون

[YA]: So Allah gave them a taste of humiliation in the present life, but greater is the punishment of the Hereafter, if they only knew!

[RK]:GOD has condemned them to humiliation in this life, and the retribution in the Hereafter will be far worse, if they only knew.

Ya qawmi innama hathihialhayatu alddunya mataAAunwa-inna al-akhirata hiya daru alqarari

ياقوم انما هذه الحياة الدنيا متاع وان الاخرة هي دار القرار

[YA]: "O my people! This life of the present is nothing but (temporary) convenience: It is the Hereafter that is the Home that will last.

[RK]:"O my people, this first life is a temporary illusion, while the Hereafter is the eternal abode."

La jarama annama tadAAoonaneeilayhi laysa lahu daAAwatun fee alddunya walafee al-akhirati waanna maraddana ila Allahiwaanna almusrifeena hum as-habu alnnari

لاجرم انما تدعونني اليه ليس له دعوة في الدنيا ولافي الاخرة وان مردنا الي الله وان المسرفين هم اصحاب النار

[YA]: "Without doubt ye do call me to one who is not fit to be called to, whether in this world, or in the Hereafter; our return will be to Allah; and the Transgressors will be Companions of the Fire!

[RK]:"There is no doubt that what you invite me to do has no basis in this world, nor in the Hereafter, that our ultimate return is to GOD, and that the transgressors have incurred the hellfire.

Inna lanansuru rusulanawaallatheena amanoo fee alhayatialddunya wayawma yaqoomu al-ashhadu

انا لننصر رسلنا والذين امنوا في الحياة الدنيا ويوم يقوم الاشهاد

[YA]: We will, without doubt, help our messengers and those who believe, (both) in this world's life and on the Day when the Witnesses will stand forth,-

[RK]:Most assuredly, we will give victory to our messengers and to those who believe, both in this world and on the day the witnesses are summoned.

Faqadahunna sabAAa samawatinfee yawmayni waawha fee kulli sama-in amrahawazayyanna alssamaa alddunyabimasabeeha wahifthan thalikataqdeeru alAAazeezi alAAaleemi

فقضاهن سبع سموات في يومين واوحي في كل سماء امرها وزينا السماء الدنيا بمصابيح وحفظا ذلك تقدير العزيز العليم

[YA]: So He completed them as seven firmaments in two Days, and He assigned to each heaven its duty and command. And We adorned the lower heaven with lights, and (provided it) with guard. Such is the Decree of (Him) the Exalted in Might, Full of Knowledge.

[RK]:Thus, He completed the seven universes in two days, and set up the laws for every universe. And we adorned the lowest universe with lamps, and placed guards around it. Such is the design of the Almighty, the Omniscient.

Faarsalna AAalayhim reehan sarsaranfee ayyamin nahisatin linutheeqahumAAathaba alkhizyi fee alhayati alddunyawalaAAathabu al-akhirati akhza wahum layunsaroona

فارسلنا عليهم ريحا صرصرا في ايام نحسات لنذيقهم عذاب الخزي في الحياة الدنيا ولعذاب الاخرة اخزي وهم لاينصرون

[YA]: So We sent against them a furious Wind through days of disaster, that We might give them a taste of a Penalty of humiliation in this life; but the Penalty of a Hereafter will be more humiliating still: and they will find no help.

[RK]:Consequently, we sent upon them violent wind, for a few miserable days. We thus afflicted them with humiliating retribution in this life, and the retribution of the Hereafter is more humiliating; they can never win.

Nahnu awliyaokum fee alhayatialddunya wafee al-akhirati walakum feehama tashtahee anfusukum walakum feeha mataddaAAoona

نحن اولياؤكم في الحياة الدنيا وفي الاخرة ولكم فيها ماتشتهي انفسكم ولكم فيها ماتدعون

[YA]: "We are your protectors in this life and in the Hereafter: therein shall ye have all that your souls shall desire; therein shall ye have all that ye ask for!-

[RK]:"We are your allies in this life, and in the Hereafter. You will have in it anything you wish for; you will have anything you want.

Man kana yureedu hartha al-akhiratinazid lahu fee harthihi waman kana yureedu harthaalddunya nu/tihi minha wama lahu feeal-akhirati min naseebin

من كان يريد حرث الاخرة نزد له في حرثه ومن كان يريد حرث الدنيا نؤته منها وماله في الاخرة من نصيب

[YA]: To any that desires the tilth of the Hereafter, We give increase in his tilth, and to any that desires the tilth of this world, We grant somewhat thereof, but he has no share or lot in the Hereafter.

[RK]:Whoever seeks the rewards of the Hereafter, we multiply the rewards for him. And whoever seeks the materials of this world, we give him therefrom, then he receives no share in the Hereafter.

Fama ooteetum min shay-in famataAAualhayati alddunya wama AAindaAllahi khayrun waabqa lillatheena amanoowaAAala rabbihim yatawakkaloona

فما اوتيتم من شئ فمتاع الحياة الدنيا وماعند الله خير وابقي للذين امنوا وعلي ربهم يتوكلون

[YA]: Whatever ye are given (here) is (but) a convenience of this life: but that which is with Allah is better and more lasting: (it is) for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord:

[RK]:Whatever you are given is no more than temporary material of this life. What GOD possesses is far better and everlasting, for those who believe and trust in their Lord.

Ahum yaqsimoona rahmata rabbika nahnuqasamna baynahum maAAeeshatahum fee alhayatialddunya warafaAAna baAAdahum fawqabaAAdin darajatin liyattakhitha baAAduhumbaAAdan sukhriyyan warahmatu rabbika khayrun mimmayajmaAAoona

اهم يقسمون رحمة ربك نحن قسمنا بينهم معيشتهم في الحياة الدنيا ورفعنا بعضهم فوق بعض درجات ليتخذ بعضهم بعضا سخريا ورحمة ربك خير مما يجمعون

[YA]: Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of thy Lord? It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in the life of this world: and We raise some of them above others in ranks, so that some may command work from others. But the Mercy of thy Lord is better than the (wealth) which they amass.

[RK]:Are they the ones who assign your Lord's mercy? We have assigned their shares in this life, raising some of them above others in ranks, in order to let them serve one another. The mercy from your Lord is far better than any material they may hoard.

Wazukhrufan wa-in kullu thalika lammamataAAu alhayati alddunya waal-akhiratuAAinda rabbika lilmuttaqeena

وزخرفا وان كل ذلك لما متاع الحياة الدنيا والاخرة عند ربك للمتقين

[YA]: And also adornments of gold. But all this were nothing but conveniences of the present life: The Hereafter, in the sight of thy Lord is for the Righteous.

[RK]:Also many ornaments. All these are the temporary materials of this lowly life. The Hereafter - at your Lord - is far better for the righteous.

Waqaloo ma hiya illa hayatunaalddunya namootu wanahya wamayuhlikuna illa alddahru wama lahum bithalikamin AAilmin in hum illa yathunnoona

وقالوا ماهي الا حياتنا الدنيا نموت ونحيا ومايهلكنا الا الدهر ومالهم بذلك من علم ان هم الا يظنون

[YA]: And they say: "What is there but our life in this world? We shall die and we live, and nothing but time can destroy us." But of that they have no knowledge: they merely conjecture:

[RK]:They said, "We only live this life; we live and die and only time causes our death!" They have no sure knowledge about this; they only conjecture.

Thalikum bi-annakumu ittakhathtumayati Allahi huzuwan wagharratkumu alhayatualddunya faalyawma la yukhrajoonaminha wala hum yustaAAtaboona

ذلكم بانكم اتخذتم ايات الله هزوا وغرتكم الحياة الدنيا فاليوم لايخرجون منها ولاهم يستعتبون

[YA]: "This, because ye used to take the Signs of Allah in jest, and the life of the world deceived you:" (From) that Day, therefore, they shall not be taken out thence, nor shall they be received into Grace.

[RK]:"This is because you took GOD's revelations in vain, and were preoccupied with the first life." Consequently, they will never exit therefrom, nor will they be excused.

Wayawma yuAAradu allatheenakafaroo AAala alnnari athhabtum tayyibatikumfee hayatikumu alddunya waistamtaAAtumbiha faalyawma tujzawna AAathaba alhooni bimakuntum tastakbiroona fee al-ardi bighayri alhaqqiwabima kuntum tafsuqoona

ويوم يعرض الذين كفروا علي النار اذهبتم طيباتكم في حياتكم الدنيا واستمتعتم بها فاليوم تجزون عذاب الهون بما كنتم تستكبرون في الارض بغير الحق وبما كنتم تفسقون

[YA]: And on the Day that the Unbelievers will be placed before the Fire, (It will be said to them): "Ye received your good things in the life of the world, and ye took your pleasure out of them: but today shall ye be recompensed with a Penalty of humiliation: for that ye were arrogant on earth without just cause, and that ye (ever) transgressed."

[RK]:The day will come when those who disbelieved will be introduced to the hellfire: "You have wasted the good chances given to you during your worldly life, and you rejoiced in them. Consequently, today you incur a shameful retribution as a requital for the arrogance you committed on earth without any basis, and for your evil works."

Innama alhayatu alddunyalaAAibun walahwun wa-in tu/minoo watattaqoo yu/tikum ojoorakumwala yas-alkum amwalakum

انما الحياة الدنيا لعب ولهو وان تؤمنوا وتتقوا يؤتكم اجوركم ولايسالكم اموالكم

[YA]: The life of this world is but play and amusement: and if ye believe and guard against Evil, He will grant you your recompense, and will not ask you (to give up) your possessions.

[RK]:This worldly life is no more than play and vanity. But if you believe and lead a righteous life, He will reward you, without asking you for any money.

[YA]: Then he approached and came closer,

[RK]:He drew nearer by moving down.

فكان قاب قوسين او ادني

[YA]: And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer;

[RK]:Until He became as close as possible.

FaaAArid AAan man tawalla AAanthikrina walam yurid illa alhayataalddunya

فاعرض عن من تولي عن ذكرنا ولم يرد الا الحياة الدنيا

[YA]: Therefore shun those who turn away from Our Message and desire nothing but the life of this world.

[RK]:You shall disregard those who turn away from our message, and become preoccupied with this worldly life.

IAAlamoo annama alhayatualddunya laAAibun walahwun wazeenatun watafakhurunbaynakum watakathurun fee al-amwali waal-awladikamathali ghaythin aAAjaba alkuffara nabatuhuthumma yaheeju fatarahu musfarran thumma yakoonu hutamanwafee al-akhirati AAathabun shadeedun wamaghfiratunmina Allahi waridwanun wama alhayatualddunya illa mataAAu alghuroori

اعلموا انما الحياة الدنيا لعب ولهو وزينة وتفاخر بينكم وتكاثر في الاموال والاولاد كمثل غيث اعجب الكفار نباته ثم يهيج فتراه مصفرا ثم يكون حطاما وفي الاخرة عذاب شديد ومغفرة من الله ورضوان وماالحياة الدنيا الا متاع الغرور

[YA]: Know ye (all), that the life of this world is but play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting and multiplying, (in rivalry) among yourselves, riches and children. Here is a similitude: How rain and the growth which it brings forth, delight (the hearts of) the tillers; soon it withers; thou wilt see it grow yellow; then it becomes dry and crumbles away. But in the Hereafter is a Penalty severe (for the devotees of wrong). And Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the devotees of Allah). And what is the life of this world, but goods and chattels of deception?

[RK]:Know that this worldly life is no more than play and games, and boasting among you, and hoarding of money and children. It is like abundant rain that produces plants and pleases the disbelievers. But then the plants turn into useless hay, and are blown away by the wind. In the Hereafter there is either severe retribution, or forgiveness from GOD and approval. This worldly life is no more than a temporary illusion.

ولولا ان كتب الله عليهم الجلاء لعذبهم في الدنيا ولهم في الاخرة عذاب النار

[YA]: And had it not been that Allah had decreed banishment for them, He would certainly have punished them in this world: And in the Hereafter they shall (certainly) have the Punishment of the Fire.

[RK]:If GOD did not force them to leave, He would have requited them in this life (even worse than forcing them to leave). In the Hereafter He will commit them to the retribution of Hell.

Walaqad zayyanna alssamaaalddunya bimasabeeha wajaAAalnaharujooman lilshshayateeni waaAAtadna lahumAAathaba alssaAAeeri

ولقد زينا السماء الدنيا بمصابيح وجعلناها رجوما للشياطين واعتدنا لهم عذاب السعير

[YA]: And we have, (from of old), adorned the lowest heaven with Lamps, and We have made such (Lamps) (as) missiles to drive away the Evil Ones, and have prepared for them the Penalty of the Blazing Fire.

[RK]:We adorned the lowest universe with lamps, and guarded its borders with projectiles against the devils; we prepared for them a retribution in Hell.

Inna rabbaka yaAAlamu annaka taqoomu adnamin thuluthayi allayli wanisfahu wathuluthahu wata-ifatunmina allatheena maAAaka waAllahu yuqaddiruallayla waalnnahara AAalima an lan tuhsoohufataba AAalaykum faiqraoo ma tayassara minaalqur-ani AAalima an sayakoonu minkum marda waakharoonayadriboona fee al-ardi yabtaghoona min fadliAllahi waakharoona yuqatiloona fee sabeeliAllahi faiqraoo ma tayassara minhu waaqeemooalssalata waatoo alzzakatawaaqridoo Allaha qardan hasanan wamatuqaddimoo li-anfusikum min khayrin tajidoohu AAinda Allahihuwa khayran waaAAthama ajran waistaghfirooAllaha inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun

ان ربك يعلم انك تقوم ادني من ثلثي الليل ونصفه وثلثه وطائفة من الذين معك والله يقدر الليل والنهار علم ان لن تحصوه فتاب عليكم فاقرؤوا ماتيسر من القران علم ان سيكون منكم مرضي واخرون يضربون في الارض يبتغون من فضل الله واخرون يقاتلون في سبيل الله فاقرؤوا ماتيسر منه واقيموا الصلاة واتوا الزكاة واقرضوا الله قرضا حسنا وماتقدموا لانفسكم من خير تجدوه عند الله هو خيرا واعظم اجرا واستغفروا الله ان الله غفور رحيم

[YA]: Thy Lord doth know that thou standest forth (to prayer) nigh two-thirds of the night, or half the night, or a third of the night, and so doth a party of those with thee. But Allah doth appoint night and day in due measure He knoweth that ye are unable to keep count thereof. So He hath turned to you (in mercy): read ye, therefore, of the Qur'an as much as may be easy for you. He knoweth that there may be (some) among you in ill-health; others travelling through the land, seeking of Allah's bounty; yet others fighting in Allah's Cause, read ye, therefore, as much of the Qur'an as may be easy (for you); and establish regular Prayer and give regular Charity; and loan to Allah a Beautiful Loan. And whatever good ye send forth for your souls ye shall find it in Allah's Presence,- yea, better and greater, in Reward and seek ye the Grace of Allah: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

[RK]:Your Lord knows that you meditate during two-thirds of the night, or half of it, or one-third of it, and so do some of those who believed with you. GOD has designed the night and the day, and He knows that you cannot always do this. He has pardoned you. Instead, you shall read what you can of the Quran. He knows that some of you may be ill, others may be traveling in pursuit of GOD's provisions, and others may be striving in the cause of GOD. You shall read what you can of it, and observe the contact prayers (Salat), give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and lend GOD a loan of righteousness. Whatever good you send ahead on behalf of your souls, you will find it at GOD far better and generously rewarded. And implore GOD for forgiveness. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

[YA]: Day (behold), ye prefer the life of this world;

[RK]:Indeed, you are preoccupied with this first life.
