[YA]: And if ye do catch them out, catch them out no worse than they catch you out: But if ye show patience, that is indeed the best (course) for those who are patient.

[RK]:And if you punish, you shall inflict an equivalent punishment. But if you resort to patience (instead of revenge), it would be better for the patient ones.

[YA]: There, the (only) protection comes from Allah, the True One. He is the Best to reward, and the Best to give success.

[RK]:That is because the only true Lord and master is GOD; He provides the best recompense, and with Him is the best destiny.

[YA]: "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!"

[RK]:"Let him be my heir and the heir of Jacob's clan, and make him, my Lord, acceptable."

[YA]: When he had turned away from them and from those whom they worshipped besides Allah, We bestowed on him Isaac and Jacob, and each one of them We made a prophet.

[RK]:Because he abandoned them and the gods they worshipped beside GOD, we granted him Isaac and Jacob, and we made each of them a prophet.

[YA]: Enjoin prayer on thy people, and be constant therein. We ask thee not to provide sustenance: We provide it for thee. But the (fruit of) the Hereafter is for righteousness.

[RK]:You shall enjoin your family to observe the contact prayers (Salat), and steadfastly persevere in doing so. We do not ask you for any provisions; we are the ones who provide for you. The ultimate triumph belongs to the righteous.

[YA]: And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them).

[RK]:And we granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift, and we made them both righteous.

[YA]: (They are) those who, if We establish them in the land, establish regular prayer and give regular charity, enjoin the right and forbid wrong: with Allah rests the end (and decision) of (all) affairs.

[RK]:They are those who, if we appointed them as rulers on earth, they would establish the Contact Prayers (Salat) and the obligatory charity (Zakat), and would advocate righteousness and forbid evil. GOD is the ultimate ruler.

Thalika waman AAaqaba bimithlima AAooqiba bihi thumma bughiya AAalayhi layansurannahuAllahu inna Allaha laAAafuwwun ghafoorunذلك ومن عاقب بمثل ماعوقب به ثم بغي عليه لينصرنه الله ان الله لعفو غفور
[YA]: That (is so). And if one has retaliated to no greater extent than the injury he received, and is again set upon inordinately, Allah will help him: for Allah is One that blots out (sins) and forgives (again and again).

[RK]:It is decreed that if one avenges an injustice that was inflicted upon him, equitably, then he is persecuted because of this, GOD will surely support him. GOD is Pardoner, Forgiving.

[YA]: "My Signs used to be rehearsed to you, but ye used to turn back on your heels-

[RK]:My proofs have been presented to you, but you turned back on your heels.

[YA]: "Now do thou throw thy rod!" But when he saw it moving (of its own accord)as if it had been a snake, he turned back in retreat, and retraced not his steps: "O Moses!" (it was said), "Fear not: truly, in My presence, those called as messengers have no fear,-

[RK]:"Throw down your staff." When he saw it moving like a demon, he turned around and fled. "O Moses, do not be afraid. My messengers shall not fear.

Wajahadoo biha waistayqanat-haanfusuhum thulman waAAuluwwan faonthurkayfa kana AAaqibatu almufsideenaوجحدوا بها واستيقنتها انفسهم ظلما وعلوا فانظر كيف كان عاقبة المفسدين
[YA]: And they rejected those Signs in iniquity and arrogance, though their souls were convinced thereof: so see what was the end of those who acted corruptly!

[RK]:They rejected them and were utterly convinced of their wrong ways, due to their arrogance. Note the consequences for the evildoers.

[YA]: Then see what was the end of their plot!- this, that We destroyed them and their people, all (of them).

[RK]:Note the consequences of their plotting; we annihilated them and all their people.

[YA]: Say: "Go ye through the earth and see what has been the end of those guilty (of sin)."

[RK]:Say, "Roam the earth and note the consequences for the guilty."

[YA]: "Now do thou throw thy rod!" but when he saw it moving (of its own accord) as if it had been a snake, he turned back in retreat, and retraced not his steps: O Moses!" (It was said), "Draw near, and fear not: for thou art of those who are secure.

[RK]:"Throw down your staff." When he saw it moving like a demon, he turned around and fled. "O Moses, come back; do not be afraid. You are perfectly safe.

Waqala moosa rabbee aAAlamubiman jaa bialhuda min AAindihi wamantakoonu lahu AAaqibatu alddari innahu layuflihu alththalimoonaوقال موسي ربي اعلم بمن جاء بالهدي من عنده ومن تكون له عاقبة الدار انه لايفلح الظالمون
[YA]: Moses said: "My Lord knows best who it is that comes with guidance from Him and whose end will be best in the Hereafter: certain it is that the wrong-doers will not prosper."

[RK]:Moses said, "My Lord knows best who brought the guidance from Him, and who will be the ultimate victors. Surely, the transgressors never succeed."

Faakhathnahu wajunoodahufanabathnahum fee alyammi faonthurkayfa kana AAaqibatu alththalimeenaفاخذناه وجنوده فنبذناهم في اليم فانظر كيف كان عاقبة الظالمين
[YA]: So We seized him and his hosts, and We flung them into the sea: Now behold what was the end of those who did wrong!

[RK]:Consequently, we punished him and his troops, by throwing them into the sea. Note the consequences for the transgressors.

Tilka alddaru al-akhiratunajAAaluha lillatheena la yureedoonaAAuluwwan fee al-ardi wala fasadan waalAAaqibatulilmuttaqeenaتلك الدار الاخرة نجعلها للذين لايريدون علوا في الارض ولافسادا والعاقبة للمتقين
[YA]: That Home of the Hereafter We shall give to those who intend not high-handedness or mischief on earth: and the end is (best) for the righteous.

[RK]:We reserve the abode of the Hereafter for those who do not seek exaltation on earth, nor corruption. The ultimate victory belongs to the righteous.

Wawahabna lahu ishaqawayaAAqooba wajaAAalna fee thurriyyatihi alnnubuwwatawaalkitaba waataynahu ajrahu fee alddunyawa-innahu fee al-akhirati lamina alssaliheenaووهبنا له اسحاق ويعقوب وجعلنا في ذريته النبوة والكتاب واتيناه اجره في الدنيا وانه في الاخرة لمن الصالحين
[YA]: And We gave (Abraham) Isaac and Jacob, and ordained among his progeny Prophethood and Revelation, and We granted him his reward in this life; and he was in the Hereafter (of the company) of the Righteous.

[RK]:We granted him Isaac and Jacob, we assigned to his descendants prophethood and the scriptures, we endowed him with his due recompense in this life, and in the Hereafter he will surely be with the righteous.

Awa lam yaseeroo fee al-ardi fayanthurookayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena min qablihimkanoo ashadda minhum quwwatan waatharoo al-ardawaAAamarooha akthara mimma AAamarooha wajaat-humrusuluhum bialbayyinati fama kana Allahuliyathlimahum walakin kanoo anfusahumyathlimoonaاولم يسيروا في الارض فينظروا كيف كان عاقبة الذين من قبلهم كانوا اشد منهم قوة واثاروا الارض وعمروها اكثر مما عمروها وجاءتهم رسلهم بالبينات فما كان الله ليظلمهم ولكن كانوا انفسهم يظلمون
[YA]: Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls.

[RK]:Have they not roamed the earth and noted the consequences for those who preceded them? They used to be more powerful, more prosperous, and more productive on earth. Their messengers went to them with clear signs. Consequently, GOD was not the One who wronged them; they are the ones who wronged their own souls.

Thumma kana AAaqibata allatheenaasaoo alssoo-a an kaththaboo bi-ayatiAllahi wakanoo biha yastahzi-oonaثم كان عاقبة الذين اساؤوا السوء ان كذبوا بايات الله وكانوا بها يستهزؤون
[YA]: In the long run evil in the extreme will be the End of those who do evil; for that they rejected the Signs of Allah, and held them up to ridicule.

[RK]:The consequences for those who committed evil had to be evil. That is because they rejected GOD's revelations, and ridiculed them.

Qul seeroo fee al-ardi faonthurookayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena min qablu kanaaktharuhum mushrikeenaقل سيروا في الارض فانظروا كيف كان عاقبة الذين من قبل كان اكثرهم مشركين
[YA]: Say: "Travel through the earth and see what was the end of those before (you): Most of them worshipped others besides Allah."

[RK]:Say, "Roam the earth and note the consequences for those before you." Most of them were idol worshipers.

Waman yuslim wajhahu ila Allahiwahuwa muhsinun faqadi istamsaka bialAAurwatialwuthqa wa-ila Allahi AAaqibatual-omooriومن يسلم وجهه الي الله وهو محسن فقد استمسك بالعروة الوثقي والي الله عاقبة الامور
[YA]: Whoever submits his whole self to Allah, and is a doer of good, has grasped indeed the most trustworthy hand-hold: and with Allah rests the End and Decision of (all) affairs.

[RK]:Those who submit completely to GOD, while leading a righteous life, have gotten hold of the strongest bond. For GOD is in full control of all things.

[YA]: Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the End of those before them,- though they were superior to them in strength? Nor is Allah to be frustrated by anything whatever in the heavens or on earth: for He is All-Knowing. All-Powerful.

[RK]:Have they not roamed the earth and noted the consequences for those who preceded them? They were even stronger than they. Nothing can be hidden from GOD in the heavens, nor on earth. He is Omniscient, Omnipotent.

[YA]: Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),-

[RK]:Note the consequences for those who have been warned.

[YA]: Not one (of them) but rejected the messengers, but My punishment came justly and inevitably (on them).

[RK]:Each of them disbelieved the messengers and thus, My retribution was inevitable.

[YA]: And commemorate Our Servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, possessors of Power and Vision.

[RK]:Remember also our servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. They were resourceful, and possessed vision.

[YA]: Who forgiveth sin, accepteth repentance, is strict in punishment, and hath a long reach (in all things). there is no god but He: to Him is the final goal.

[RK]:Forgiver of sins, acceptor of repentance, strict in enforcing retribution, and possessor of all power. There is no other god beside Him. To Him is the ultimate destiny.

Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohinwaal-ahzabu min baAAdihim wahammat kulluommatin birasoolihim liya/khuthoohu wajadaloo bialbatililiyudhidoo bihi alhaqqa faakhathtuhumfakayfa kana AAiqabiكذبت قبلهم قوم نوح والاحزاب من بعدهم وهمت كل امة برسولهم لياخذوه وجادلوا بالباطل ليدحضوا به الحق فاخذتهم فكيف كان عقاب
[YA]: But (there were people) before them, who denied (the Signs),- the People of Noah, and the Confederates (of Evil) after them; and every People plotted against their prophet, to seize him, and disputed by means of vanities, therewith to condemn the Truth; but it was I that seized them! and how (terrible) was My Requital!

[RK]:Disbelieving before them were the people of Noah, and many other opponents after them. Every community persecuted their messenger to neutralize him. And they argued with falsehood, to defeat the truth. Consequently, I punished them; how terrible was My retribution!

Awa lam yaseeroo fee al-ardi fayanthurookayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena kanoomin qablihim kanoo hum ashadda minhum quwwatan waatharanfee al-ardi faakhathahumu Allahu bithunoobihimwama kana lahum mina Allahi min waqinاولم يسيروا في الارض فينظروا كيف كان عاقبة الذين كانوا من قبلهم كانوا هم اشد منهم قوة واثارا في الارض فاخذهم الله بذنوبهم وماكان لهم من الله من واق
[YA]: Do they not travel through the earth and see what was the End of those before them? They were even superior to them in strength, and in the traces (they have left) in the land: but Allah did call them to account for their sins, and none had they to defend them against Allah.

[RK]:Did they not roam the earth and note the consequences for those before them? They used to be stronger than they, and more productive on earth. But GOD punished them for their sins, and nothing could protect them from GOD.

Thalika bi-annahum kanatta/teehim rusuluhum bialbayyinati fakafaroo faakhathahumuAllahu innahu qawiyyun shadeedu alAAiqabiذلك بانهم كانت تاتيهم رسلهم بالبينات فكفروا فاخذهم الله انه قوي شديد العقاب
[YA]: That was because there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs), but they rejected them: So Allah called them to account: for He is Full of Strength, Strict in Punishment.

[RK]:That is because their messengers went to them with clear proofs, but they disbelieved. Consequently, GOD punished them. He is Mighty, strict in enforcing retribution.

Afalam yaseeroo fee al-ardi fayanthurookayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena min qablihimkanoo akthara minhum waashadda quwwatan waatharanfee al-ardi fama aghna AAanhum ma kanooyaksiboonaافلم يسيروا في الارض فينظروا كيف كان عاقبة الذين من قبلهم كانوا اكثر منهم واشد قوة واثارا في الارض فما اغني عنهم ماكانوا يكسبون
[YA]: Do they not travel through the earth and see what was the End of those before them? They were more numerous than these and superior in strength and in the traces (they have left) in the land: Yet all that they accomplished was of no profit to them.

[RK]:Have they not roamed the earth and noted the consequences for those who preceded them? They used to be greater in number, greater in power, and possessed a greater legacy on earth. Yet, all their achievements did not help them in the least.

Ma yuqalu laka illa maqad qeela lilrrusuli min qablika inna rabbaka lathoomaghfiratin wathoo AAiqabin aleeminمايقال لك الا ماقد قيل للرسل من قبلك ان ربك لذو مغفرة وذو عقاب اليم
[YA]: Nothing is said to thee that was not said to the messengers before thee: that thy lord has at his Command (all) forgiveness as well as a most Grievous Penalty.

[RK]:What is said to you is precisely what was said to the previous messengers. Your Lord possesses forgiveness, and He also possesses painful retribution.

Faintaqamna minhum faonthurkayfa kana AAaqibatu almukaththibeenaفانتقمنا منهم فانظر كيف كان عاقبة المكذبين
[YA]: So We exacted retribution from them: now see what was the end of those who rejected (Truth)!

[RK]:Consequently, we requited them. Note the consequences for the rejectors.

WajaAAalaha kalimatan baqiyatanfee AAaqibihi laAAallahum yarjiAAoonaوجعلها كلمة باقية في عقبه لعلهم يرجعون
[YA]: And he left it as a Word to endure among those who came after him, that they may turn back (to Allah).

[RK]:This example (of Abraham) was rendered an everlasting lesson for subsequent generations; perhaps they redeem their souls.

[YA]: Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the End of those before them (who did evil)? Allah brought utter destruction on them, and similar (fates await) those who reject Allah.

[RK]:Did they not roam the earth and see the consequences for those before them? GOD destroyed their works; all disbelievers will suffer the same fate.

[YA]: That is because they resisted Allah and His Messenger: and if any one resists Allah, verily Allah is severe in Punishment.

[RK]:This is because they opposed GOD and His messenger. For those who oppose GOD and His messenger, GOD is most strict in enforcing retribution.

Ma afaa Allahu AAalarasoolihi min ahli alqura falillahi walilrrasooliwalithee alqurba waalyatama waalmasakeeniwaibni alssabeeli kay la yakoona doolatanbayna al-aghniya-i minkum wama atakumualrrasoolu fakhuthoohu wama nahakumAAanhu faintahoo waittaqoo Allaha inna Allahashadeedu alAAiqabiماافاء الله علي رسوله من اهل القري فلله وللرسول ولذي القربي واليتامي والمساكين وابن السبيل كي لايكون دولة بين الاغنياء منكم ومااتاكم الرسول فخذوه ومانهاكم عنه فانتهوا واتقوا الله ان الله شديد العقاب
[YA]: What Allah has bestowed on His Messenger (and taken away) from the people of the townships,- belongs to Allah,- to His Messenger and to kindred and orphans, the needy and the wayfarer; In order that it may not (merely) make a circuit between the wealthy among you. So take what the Messenger assigns to you, and deny yourselves that which he withholds from you. And fear Allah; for Allah is strict in Punishment.

[RK]:Whatever GOD restored to His messenger from the (defeated) communities shall go to GOD and His messenger (in the form of a charity). You shall give it to the relatives, the orphans, the poor, and the traveling alien. Thus, it will not remain monopolized by the strong among you. You may keep the spoils given to you by the messenger, but do not take what he enjoins you from taking. You shall reverence GOD. GOD is strict in enforcing retribution.

Fakana AAaqibatahumaannahuma fee alnnari khalidayni feehawathalika jazao alththalimeenaفكان عاقبتهما انهما في النار خالدين فيها وذلك جزاء الظالمين
[YA]: The end of both will be that they will go into the Fire, dwelling therein for ever. Such is the reward of the wrong-doers.

[RK]:The destiny for both of them is the Hellfire, wherein they abide forever. This is the requital for the transgressors.

[YA]: And if any of your wives deserts you to the Unbelievers, and ye have an accession (by the coming over of a woman from the other side), then pay to those whose wives have deserted the equivalent of what they had spent (on their dower). And fear Allah, in Whom ye believe.

[RK]:If any of your wives join the enemies' camp, and you are forced to fight, you shall force the enemy to compensate the men who lost their wives, by giving them what they spent on their wives. You shall reverence GOD, in whom you believe.

[YA]: Then did they taste the evil result of their conduct, and the End of their conduct was Perdition.

[RK]:They suffered the consequences of their decisions; a profound loss.

[YA]: But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep.

[RK]:He should choose the difficult path.

Wama adraka maalAAaqabatuوماادراك ماالعقبة
[YA]: And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?-

[RK]:Which one is the difficult path?

95[91:15]

Wala yakhafu AAuqbahaولايخاف عقباها
[YA]: And for Him is no fear of its consequences.

[RK]:Yet, those who came after them remain heedless.
