[YA]: They will say: "our Lord! Our misfortune overwhelmed us, and we became a people astray! [RK]:They will say, "Our Lord, our wickedness overwhelmed us, and we were people gone astray. | ||||

[YA]: By men whom neither traffic nor merchandise can divert from the Remembrance of Allah, nor from regular Prayer, nor from the practice of regular Charity: Their (only) fear is for the Day when hearts and eyes will be transformed (in a world wholly new),- [RK]:People who are not distracted by business or trade from commemorating GOD; they observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and they are conscious of the day when the minds and the eyes will be horrified. | ||||

[YA]: We have indeed sent down signs that make things manifest: and Allah guides whom He wills to a way that is straight. [RK]:We have sent down to you clarifying revelations, then GOD guides whoever wills (to be guided) in a straight path. | ||||

[YA]: So establish regular Prayer and give regular Charity; and obey the Messenger; that ye may receive mercy. [RK]:You shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and obey the messenger, that you may attain mercy. | ||||

[YA]: But the misbelievers say: "Naught is this but a lie which he has forged, and others have helped him at it." In truth it is they who have put forward an iniquity and a falsehood. [RK]:Those who disbelieved said, "This is a fabrication that he produced, with the help of some other people." They have uttered a blasphemy and a falsehood. | ||||

[YA]: They will say: "Glory to Thee! not meet was it for us that we should take for protectors others besides Thee: But Thou didst bestow, on them and their fathers, good things (in life), until they forgot the Message: for they were a people (worthless and) lost." [RK]:They will say, "Be You glorified, it was not right for us to set up any lords beside You. But You allowed them to enjoy, together with their parents. Consequently, they disregarded the message and thus became wicked people." | ||||

[YA]: Then the Messenger will say: "O my Lord! Truly my people took this Qur'an for just foolish nonsense." [RK]:The messenger said, "My Lord, my people have deserted this Quran." | ||||

[YA]: And We command: "Go ye both, to the people who have rejected our Signs:" And those (people) We destroyed with utter destruction. [RK]:We said, "Go, both of you, to the people who rejected our revelations," and subsequently, we utterly annihilated the rejectors. | ||||

[YA]: And the people of Noah,- when they rejected the messengers, We drowned them, and We made them as a Sign for mankind; and We have prepared for (all) wrong-doers a grievous Penalty;- [RK]:Similarly, when the people of Noah disbelieved the messengers, we drowned them, and we set them up as a sign for the people. We have prepared for the transgressors a painful retribution. | ||||

[YA]: Those who spend the night in adoration of their Lord prostrate and standing; [RK]:In the privacy of the night, they meditate on their Lord, and fall prostrate. | ||||

[YA]: "Evil indeed is it as an abode, and as a place to rest in"; [RK]:"It is the worst abode; the worst destiny." | ||||

[YA]: Those who, when they spend, are not extravagant and not niggardly, but hold a just (balance) between those (extremes); [RK]:When they give, they are neither extravagant nor stingy; they give in moderation. | ||||

[YA]: (But) the Penalty on the Day of Judgment will be doubled to him, and he will dwell therein in ignominy,- [RK]:Retribution is doubled for them on the Day of Resurrection, and they abide therein humiliated. | ||||

[YA]: Dwelling therein;- how beautiful an abode and place of rest! [RK]:Eternally they abide therein; what a beautiful destiny; what a beautiful abode. | ||||

[YA]: "Now put thy hand into thy bosom, and it will come forth white without stain (or harm): (these are) among the nine Signs (thou wilt take) to Pharaoh and his people: for they are a people rebellious in transgression." [RK]:"Put your hand in your pocket; it will come out white, without a blemish. These are among nine miracles to Pharaoh and his people, for they are wicked people." | ||||

The devil has adorned their works in their eyes, and has repulsed them from the path; consequently, they are not guided." | ||||

[YA]: Said an 'Ifrit, of the Jinns: "I will bring it to thee before thou rise from thy council: indeed I have full strength for the purpose, and may be trusted." [RK]:One afrit from the jinns said, "I can bring it to you before you stand up. I am powerful enough to do this." | ||||

[YA]: Said an 'Ifrit, of the Jinns: "I will bring it to thee before thou rise from thy council: indeed I have full strength for the purpose, and may be trusted." [RK]:One afrit from the jinns said, "I can bring it to you before you stand up. I am powerful enough to do this." | ||||

[YA]: And he diverted her from the worship of others besides Allah: for she was (sprung) of a people that had no faith. [RK]:She had been diverted by worshipping idols instead of GOD; she belonged to disbelieving people. | ||||

[YA]: He said: "O my people! why ask ye to hasten on the evil in preference to the good? If only ye ask Allah for forgiveness, ye may hope to receive mercy. [RK]:He said, "O my people, why do you hasten to commit evil instead of good works? If only you implore GOD for forgiveness, you may attain mercy." | ||||

[YA]: They said: "Ill omen do we augur from thee and those that are with thee". He said: "Your ill omen is with Allah; yea, ye are a people under trial." [RK]:They said, "We consider you a bad omen for us, you and those who joined you." He said, "Your omen is fully controlled by GOD. Indeed, you are deviant people." | ||||

[YA]: Then see what was the end of their plot!- this, that We destroyed them and their people, all (of them). [RK]:Note the consequences of their plotting; we annihilated them and all their people. | ||||

[YA]: Now such were their houses, - in utter ruin, - because they practised wrong-doing. Verily in this is a Sign for people of knowledge. [RK]:Here are their homes utterly ruined, because of their transgression. This should be a lesson for people who know. | ||||

[YA]: (We also sent) Lut (as a messenger): behold, He said to his people, "Do ye do what is shameful though ye see (its iniquity)? [RK]:Lot said to his people, "How could you commit such an abomination, publicly, while you see? | ||||

[YA]: Would ye really approach men in your lusts rather than women? Nay, ye are a people (grossly) ignorant! [RK]:"You practice sex with the men, lustfully, instead of the women. Indeed, you are ignorant people." | ||||

[YA]: But his people gave no other answer but this: they said, "Drive out the followers of Lut from your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!" [RK]:The only response from his people was their saying, "Banish Lot's family from your town; they are people who wish to be pure." | ||||

[YA]: Or, Who has created the heavens and the earth, and Who sends you down rain from the sky? Yea, with it We cause to grow well-planted orchards full of beauty of delight: it is not in your power to cause the growth of the trees in them. (Can there be another) god besides Allah? Nay, they are a people who swerve from justice. [RK]:Who is the One who created the heavens and the earth? Who is the One who sends down to you from the sky water, whereby we produce gardens full of beauty - you could not possibly manufacture its trees? Is it another god with GOD? Indeed, they are people who have deviated. | ||||

[YA]: See they not that We have made the Night for them to rest in and the Day to give them light? Verily in this are Signs for any people that believe! [RK]:Have they not seen that we made the night for their rest, and the day lighted? These should be sufficient proofs for people who believe. | ||||

[YA]: We rehearse to thee some of the story of Moses and Pharaoh in Truth, for people who believe. [RK]:We recite to you herein some history of Moses and Pharaoh, truthfully, for the benefit of people who believe. | ||||

[YA]: He therefore got away therefrom, looking about, in a state of fear. He prayed "O my Lord! save me from people given to wrong-doing." [RK]:He fled the city, afraid and watchful. He said, "My Lord, save me from the oppressive people." | ||||

[YA]: Afterwards one of the (damsels) came (back) to him, walking bashfully. She said: "My father invites thee that he may reward thee for having watered (our flocks) for us." So when he came to him and narrated the story, he said: "Fear thou not: (well) hast thou escaped from unjust people." [RK]:Soon, one of the two women approached him, shyly, and said, "My father invites you to pay you for watering for us." When he met him, and told him his story, he said, "Have no fear. You have been saved from the oppressive people." | ||||

[YA]: "Move thy hand into thy bosom, and it will come forth white without stain (or harm), and draw thy hand close to thy side (to guard) against fear. Those are the two credentials from thy Lord to Pharaoh and his Chiefs: for truly they are a people rebellious and wicked." [RK]:"Put your hand into your pocket; it will come out white without a blemish. Fold your wings and settle down from your fear. These are two proofs from your Lord, to be shown to Pharaoh and his elders; they have been wicked people." | ||||

[YA]: And we made them (but) leaders inviting to the Fire; and on the Day of Judgment no help shall they find. [RK]:We made them imams who led their people to Hell. Furthermore, on the Day of Resurrection, they will have no help. | ||||

[YA]: in this world We made a curse to follow them and on the Day of Judgment they will be among the loathed (and despised). [RK]:They incurred in this life condemnation, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be despised. | ||||

[YA]: Nor wast thou at the side of (the Mountain of) Tur when we called (to Moses). Yet (art thou sent) as Mercy from thy Lord, to give warning to a people to whom no warner had come before thee: in order that they may receive admonition. [RK]:Nor were you on the slope of Mount Sinai when we called (Moses). But it is mercy from your Lord, (towards the people,) in order to warn people who received no warner before you, that they may take heed. | ||||

[YA]: But if they hearken not to thee, know that they only follow their own lusts: and who is more astray than one who follow his own lusts, devoid of guidance from Allah? for Allah guides not people given to wrong-doing. [RK]:If they fail to respond to you, then know that they follow only their own opinions. Who is farther astray than those who follow their own opinions, without guidance from GOD? GOD does not guide such wicked people. | ||||

[YA]: Are (these two) alike?- one to whom We have made a goodly promise, and who is going to reach its (fulfilment), and one to whom We have given the good things of this life, but who, on the Day of Judgment, is to be among those brought up (for punishment)? [RK]:Is one whom we promised a good promise that will surely come to pass, equal to one whom we provide with the temporary materials of this life, then suffers eternal doom on the Day of Resurrection? | ||||

[YA]: Say: See ye? If Allah were to make the night perpetual over you to the Day of Judgment, what god is there other than Allah, who can give you enlightenment? Will ye not then hearken? [RK]:Say, "What if GOD made the night perpetual, until the Day of Resurrection? Which god, other than GOD, can provide you with light? Do you not hear?" | ||||
