[YA]: Then the Messenger will say: "O my Lord! Truly my people took this Qur'an for just foolish nonsense." [RK]:The messenger said, "My Lord, my people have deserted this Quran." | ||||

[YA]: Those who reject Faith say: "Why is not the Qur'an revealed to him all at once? Thus (is it revealed), that We may strengthen thy heart thereby, and We have rehearsed it to thee in slow, well-arranged stages, gradually. [RK]:Those who disbelieved said, "Why did not the Quran come through him all at once?" We have released it to you gradually, in order to fix it in your memory. We have recited it in a specific sequence. | ||||

[YA]: And We command: "Go ye both, to the people who have rejected our Signs:" And those (people) We destroyed with utter destruction. [RK]:We said, "Go, both of you, to the people who rejected our revelations," and subsequently, we utterly annihilated the rejectors. | ||||

[YA]: Say: "No reward do I ask of you for it but this: that each one who will may take a (straight) Path to his Lord." [RK]:Say, "I do not ask you for any money. All I seek is to help you find the right path to your Lord, if this is what you choose." | ||||

[YA]: When it is said to them, "Prostrate to (Allah) Most Gracious!", they say, "And what is (Allah) Most Gracious? Shall we prostrate to that which thou commandest us?" And it increases their flight (from the Truth). [RK]:When they are told, "Fall prostrate before the Most Gracious," they say, "What is the Most Gracious? Shall we prostrate before what you advocate?" Thus, it only augments their aversion. | ||||

[YA]: And the servants of (Allah) Most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in humility, and when the ignorant address them, they say, "Peace!"; [RK]:The worshipers of the Most Gracious are those who tread the earth gently, and when the ignorant speak to them, they only utter peace. | ||||

[YA]: Those who say, "Our Lord! avert from us the Wrath of Hell, for its Wrath is indeed an affliction grievous,- [RK]:And they say, "Our Lord, spare us the agony of Hell; its retribution is horrendous. | ||||

[YA]: And those who pray, "Our Lord! Grant unto us wives and offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and give us (the grace) to lead the righteous." [RK]:And they say, "Our Lord, let our spouses and children be a source of joy for us, and keep us in the forefront of the righteous." | ||||

[YA]: Say (to the Rejecters): "My Lord is not uneasy because of you if ye call not on Him: But ye have indeed rejected (Him), and soon will come the inevitable (punishment)!" [RK]:Say, "You attain value at my Lord only through your worship. But if you disbelieve, you incur the inevitable consequences." | ||||

[YA]: He said: "O my Lord! I do fear that they will charge me with falsehood: [RK]:He said, "My Lord, I fear lest they disbelieve me. | ||||

[YA]: "So go forth, both of you, to Pharaoh, and say: 'We have been sent by the Lord and Cherisher of the worlds; [RK]:"Go to Pharaoh and say, `We are messengers from the Lord of the universe.' | ||||

[YA]: (Pharaoh) said: "Did we not cherish thee as a child among us, and didst thou not stay in our midst many years of thy life? [RK]:He said, "Did we not raise you from infancy, and you spent many years with us? | ||||

[YA]: Moses said: "I did it then, when I was in error. [RK]:He said, "Indeed, I did it when I was astray. | ||||

[YA]: Pharaoh said: "And what is the 'Lord and Cherisher of the worlds'?" [RK]:Pharaoh said, "What is the Lord of the universe?" | ||||

[YA]: (Moses) said: "The Lord and Cherisher of the heavens and the earth, and all between,- if ye want to be quite sure." [RK]:He said, "The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and everything between them. You should be certain about this." | ||||

[YA]: (Pharaoh) said to those around: "Did ye not listen (to what he says)?" [RK]:He said to those around him, "Did you hear this?" | ||||

[YA]: (Pharaoh) said: "Truly your messenger who has been sent to you is a veritable madman!" [RK]:He said, "Your messenger who is sent to you is crazy." | ||||

[YA]: (Moses) said: "Lord of the East and the West, and all between! if ye only had sense!" [RK]:He said, "The Lord of the east and the west, and everything between them, if you understand." | ||||

[YA]: (Pharaoh) said: "If thou dost put forward any god other than me, I will certainly put thee in prison!" [RK]:He said, "If you accept any god, other than me, I will throw you in the prison." | ||||

[YA]: (Moses) said: "Even if I showed you something clear (and) convincing?" [RK]:He said, "What if I show you something profound?" | ||||

[YA]: (Pharaoh) said to the Chiefs around him: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed: [RK]:He said to the elders around him, "This is an experienced magician. | ||||

[YA]: They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while), and dispatch to the Cities heralds to collect- [RK]:They said, "Respite him and his brother, and send summoners to every town. | ||||

[YA]: And the people were told: "Are ye (now) assembled?- [RK]:The people were told: "Come one and all; let us gather together here. | ||||

[YA]: So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Pharaoh: "Of course - shall we have a (suitable) reward if we win? [RK]:When the magicians came, they said to Pharaoh, "Do we get paid, if we are the winners?" | ||||

[YA]: He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." [RK]:He said, "Yes indeed; you will even be close to me." | ||||

[YA]: Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!" [RK]:Moses said to them "Throw what you are going to throw." | ||||

[YA]: So they threw their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the might of Pharaoh, it is we who will certainly win!" [RK]:They threw their ropes and sticks, and said, "By Pharaoh's majesty, we will be the victors." | ||||

[YA]: Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, [RK]:They said, "We believe in the Lord of the universe. | ||||

[YA]: Said (Pharaoh): "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? surely he is your leader, who has taught you sorcery! but soon shall ye know! Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross!" [RK]:He said, "Did you believe with him before I give you permission? He must be your teacher, who taught you magic. You will surely find out. I will sever your hands and feet on alternate sides. I will crucify you all." | ||||

[YA]: They said: "No matter! for us, we shall but return to our Lord! [RK]:They said, "This will not change our decision; to our Lord we will return. | ||||

[YA]: And when the two bodies saw each other, the people of Moses said: "We are sure to be overtaken." [RK]:When both parties saw each other, Moses' people said, "We will be caught." | ||||

[YA]: (Moses) said: "By no means! my Lord is with me! Soon will He guide me!" [RK]:He said, "No way. My Lord is with me; He will guide me." | ||||

[YA]: Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" [RK]:He said to his father and his people, "What is this you are worshipping?" | ||||

[YA]: They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." [RK]:They said, "We worship statues; we are totally devoted to them." | ||||

[YA]: He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" [RK]:He said, "Can they hear you when you implore? | ||||

[YA]: They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." [RK]:They said, "No; but we found our parents doing this." | ||||

[YA]: He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- [RK]:He said, "Do you see these idols that you worship. | ||||

[YA]: "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- [RK]:They will be asked, "Where are the idols you had worshipped | ||||
