[RK]:Why do they not reflect upon this scripture? Do they not realize that they have received something never attained by their ancestors?

[YA]: Or do they say, "He is possessed"? Nay, he has brought them the Truth, but most of them hate the Truth.

[RK]:Have they decided that he is crazy? Indeed, he has brought the truth to them, but most of them hate the truth.

[RK]:Say, "In whose hand is all sovereignty over all things, and He is the only one who can provide help, but needs no help, if you know?"

[YA]: (In Falsehood will they be) Until, when death comes to one of them, he says: "O my Lord! send me back (to life),-

[RK]:When death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back.

LaAAallee aAAmalu salihanfeema taraktu kalla innaha kalimatun huwa qa-iluhawamin wara-ihim barzakhun ila yawmi yubAAathoonaلعلي اعمل صالحا فيما تركت كلا انها كلمة هو قائلها ومن ورائهم برزخ الي يوم يبعثون
[YA]: "In order that I may work righteousness in the things I neglected." - "By no means! It is but a word he says."- Before them is a Partition till the Day they are raised up.

[RK]:"I will then work righteousness in everything I left." Not true. This is a false claim that he makes. A barrier will separate his soul from this world until resurrection.

[YA]: They will say: "our Lord! Our misfortune overwhelmed us, and we became a people astray!

[RK]:They will say, "Our Lord, our wickedness overwhelmed us, and we were people gone astray.

[YA]: He will say: "Be ye driven into it (with ignominy)! And speak ye not to Me!

[YA]: "A part of My servants there was, who used to pray 'our Lord! we believe; then do Thou forgive us, and have mercy upon us: For Thou art the Best of those who show mercy!"

[RK]:"A group of My servants used to say, `Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and shower us with mercy. Of all the merciful ones, You are the Most Merciful.'

[YA]: He will say: "Ye stayed not but a little,- if ye had only known!

[RK]:He said, "In fact, you stayed but a brief interim, if you only knew.

[YA]: So say: "O my Lord! grant Thou forgiveness and mercy for Thou art the Best of those who show mercy!"

[RK]:Say, "My Lord, shower us with forgiveness and mercy. Of all the merciful ones, You are the Most Merciful."

[YA]: Why did not the believers - men and women - when ye heard of the affair,- put the best construction on it in their own minds and say, "This (charge) is an obvious lie"?

[RK]:When you heard it, the believing men and the believing women should have had better thoughts about themselves, and should have said, "This is obviously a big lie."

Ith talaqqawnahu bi-alsinatikumwataqooloona bi-afwahikum ma laysa lakum bihiAAilmun watahsaboonahu hayyinan wahuwa AAinda AllahiAAatheemunاذ تلقونه بالسنتكم وتقولون بافواهكم ماليس لكم به علم وتحسبونه هينا وهو عند الله عظيم
[YA]: Behold, ye received it on your tongues, and said out of your mouths things of which ye had no knowledge; and ye thought it to be a light matter, while it was most serious in the sight of Allah.

[RK]:You fabricated it with your own tongues, and the rest of you repeated it with your mouths without proof. You thought it was simple, when it was, according to GOD, gross.

Walawla ith samiAAtumoohuqultum ma yakoonu lana an natakallama bihathasubhanaka hatha buhtanun AAatheemunولولا اذ سمعتموه قلتم مايكون لنا ان نتكلم بهذا سبحانك هذا بهتان عظيم
[YA]: And why did ye not, when ye heard it, say? - "It is not right of us to speak of this: Glory to Allah! this is a most serious slander!"

[RK]:When you heard it, you should have said, "We will not repeat this. Glory be to You. This is a gross falsehood."

Alkhabeethatu lilkhabeetheena waalkhabeethoonalilkhabeethati waalttayyibatu lilttayyibeenawaalttayyiboona lilttayyibatiola-ika mubarraoona mimma yaqooloona lahummaghfiratun warizqun kareemunالخبيثات للخبيثين والخبيثون للخبيثات والطيبات للطيبين والطيبون للطيبات اولئك مبرؤون مما يقولون لهم مغفرة ورزق كريم
[YA]: Women impure are for men impure, and men impure for women impure and women of purity are for men of purity, and men of purity are for women of purity: these are not affected by what people say: for them there is forgiveness, and a provision honourable.

[RK]:The bad women for the bad men, and the bad men for the bad women, and the good women for the good men, and the good men for the good women. The latter are innocent of such accusations. They have attained forgiveness and a generous reward.

Fa-in lam tajidoo feeha ahadanfala tadkhulooha hatta yu/thanalakum wa-in qeela lakumu irjiAAoo fairjiAAoo huwa azkalakum waAllahu bima taAAmaloona AAaleemunفان لم تجدوا فيها احدا فلا تدخلوها حتي يؤذن لكم وان قيل لكم ارجعوا فارجعوا هو ازكي لكم والله بما تعملون عليم
[YA]: If ye find no one in the house, enter not until permission is given to you: if ye are asked to go back, go back: that makes for greater purity for yourselves: and Allah knows well all that ye do.

[RK]:If you find no one in them, do not enter them until you obtain permission. If you are told, "Go back," you must go back. This is purer for you. GOD is fully aware of everything you do.

Qul lilmu/mineena yaghuddoo min absarihumwayahfathoo furoojahum thalika azkalahum inna Allaha khabeerun bima yasnaAAoonaقل للمؤمنين يغضوا من ابصارهم ويحفظوا فروجهم ذلك ازكي لهم ان الله خبير بما يصنعون
[YA]: Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.

[RK]:Tell the believing men that they shall subdue their eyes (and not stare at the women), and to maintain their chastity. This is purer for them. GOD is fully Cognizant of everything they do.

Waqul lilmu/minati yaghdudnamin absarihinna wayahfathnafuroojahunna wala yubdeena zeenatahunna illa mathahara minha walyadribnabikhumurihinna AAala juyoobihinna wala yubdeenazeenatahunna illa libuAAoolatihinna aw aba-ihinnaaw aba-i buAAoolatihinna aw abna-ihinna awabna-i buAAoolatihinna aw ikhwanihinna aw baneeikhwanihinna aw banee akhawatihinna aw nisa-ihinnaaw ma malakat aymanuhunna awi alttabiAAeenaghayri olee al-irbati mina alrrijali awi alttifliallatheena lam yathharoo AAala AAawratialnnisa-i wala yadribnabi-arjulihinna liyuAAlama ma yukhfeena min zeenatihinnawatooboo ila Allahi jameeAAan ayyuhaalmu/minoona laAAallakum tuflihoonaوقل للمؤمنات يغضضن من ابصارهم ويحفظن فروجهن ولايبدين زينتهن الا ماظهر منها وليضربن بخمرهن علي جيوبهن ولايبدين زينتهن الا لبعولتهن او ابائهن او اباء بعولتهن او ابنائهن او ابناء بعولتهن او اخوانهن او بني اخوانهن او بني اخواتهن او نسائهن او ماملكت ايمانهن او التابعين غير اولي الاربة من الرجال او الطفل الذين لم يظهروا علي عورات النساء ولايضربن بارجلهن ليعلم مايخفين من زينتهن وتوبوا الي الله جميعا ايها المؤمنون لعلكم تفلحون
[YA]: And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss.

[RK]:And tell the believing women to subdue their eyes, and maintain their chastity. They shall not reveal any parts of their bodies, except that which is necessary. They shall cover their chests, and shall not relax this code in the presence of other than their husbands, their fathers, the fathers of their husbands, their sons, the sons of their husbands, their brothers, the sons of their brothers, the sons of their sisters, other women, the male servants or employees whose sexual drive has been nullified, or the children who have not reached puberty. They shall not strike their feet when they walk in order to shake and reveal certain details of their bodies. All of you shall repent to GOD, O you believers, that you may succeed.

[YA]: They say, "We believe in Allah and in the messenger, and we obey": but even after that, some of them turn away: they are not (really) Believers.

[RK]:They say, "We believe in GOD and in the messenger, and we obey," but then some of them slide back afterwards. These are not believers.

[YA]: The answer of the Believers, when summoned to Allah and His Messenger, in order that He may judge between them, is no other than this: they say, "We hear and we obey": it is such as these that will attain felicity.

[RK]:The only utterance of the believers, whenever invited to GOD and His messenger to judge in their affairs, is to say, "We hear and we obey." These are the winners.

Waaqsamoo biAllahi jahda aymanihimla-in amartahum layakhrujunna qul la tuqsimoo taAAatunmaAAroofatun inna Allaha khabeerun bima taAAmaloonaواقسموا بالله جهد ايمانهم لئن امرتهم ليخرجن قل لاتقسموا طاعة معروفة ان الله خبير بما تعملون
[YA]: They swear their strongest oaths by Allah that, if only thou wouldst command them, they would leave (their homes). Say: "Swear ye not; Obedience is (more) reasonable; verily, Allah is well acquainted with all that ye do."

[RK]:They swear by GOD, solemnly, that if you commanded them to mobilize, they would mobilize. Say, "Do not swear. Obedience is an obligation. GOD is fully Cognizant of everything you do."

Qul ateeAAoo Allaha waateeAAooalrrasoola fa-in tawallaw fa-innama AAalayhi mahummila waAAalaykum ma hummiltum wa-in tuteeAAoohutahtadoo wama AAala alrrasooli illaalbalaghu almubeenaقل اطيعوا الله واطيعوا الرسول فان تولوا فانما عليه ماحمل وعليكم ماحملتم وان تطيعوه تهتدوا وماعلي الرسول الا البلاغ المبين
[YA]: Say: "Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger: but if ye turn away, he is only responsible for the duty placed on him and ye for that placed on you. If ye obey him, ye shall be on right guidance. The Messenger's duty is only to preach the clear (Message).

[RK]:Say, "Obey GOD, and obey the messenger." If they refuse, then he is responsible for his obligations, and you are responsible for your obligations. If you obey him, you will be guided. The sole duty of the messenger is to deliver (the message).

Waqala allatheena kafaroo in hathailla ifkun iftarahu waaAAanahu AAalayhiqawmun akharoona faqad jaoo thulmanwazooranوقال الذين كفروا ان هذا الا افك افتراه واعانه عليه قوم اخرون فقد جاؤوا ظلما وزورا
[YA]: But the misbelievers say: "Naught is this but a lie which he has forged, and others have helped him at it." In truth it is they who have put forward an iniquity and a falsehood.

[RK]:Those who disbelieved said, "This is a fabrication that he produced, with the help of some other people." They have uttered a blasphemy and a falsehood.

Waqaloo asateeru al-awwaleenaiktatabaha fahiya tumla AAalayhi bukratan waaseelanوقالوا اساطير الاولين اكتتبها فهي تملي عليه بكرة واصيلا
[YA]: And they say: "Tales of the ancients, which he has caused to be written: and they are dictated before him morning and evening."

[RK]:They also said, "Tales from the past that he wrote down; they were dictated to him day and night."

Qul anzalahu allathee yaAAlamu alssirrafee alssamawati waal-ardiinnahu kana ghafooran raheemanقل انزله الذي يعلم السر في السماوات والارض انه كان غفورا رحيما
[YA]: Say: "The (Qur'an) was sent down by Him who knows the mystery (that is) in the heavens and the earth: verily He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

[RK]:Say, "This was revealed by the One who knows the Secret in the heavens and the earth. He is Forgiving, Most Merciful."

Waqaloo mali hatha alrrasooliya/kulu alttaAAama wayamshee fee al-aswaqilawla onzila ilayhi malakun fayakoona maAAahu natheeranوقالوا مالهذا الرسول ياكل الطعام ويمشي في الاسواق لولا انزل اليه ملك فيكون معه نذيرا
[YA]: And they say: "What sort of a messenger is this, who eats food, and walks through the streets? Why has not an angel been sent down to him to give admonition with him?

[RK]:And they said, "How come this messenger eats the food and walks in the markets? If only an angel could come down with him, to serve with him as a preacher!"

Aw yulqa ilayhi kanzun aw takoonu lahujannatun ya/kulu minha waqala alththalimoonain tattabiAAoona illa rajulan mashooranاو يلقي اليه كنز اوتكون له جنة ياكل منها وقال الظالمون ان تتبعون الا رجلا مسحورا
[YA]: "Or (Why) has not a treasure been bestowed on him, or why has he (not) a garden for enjoyment?" The wicked say: "Ye follow none other than a man bewitched."

[RK]:Or, "If only a treasure could be given to him!" Or, "If only he could possess an orchard from which he eats!" The transgressors also said, "You are following a bewitched man."

Qul athalika khayrun am jannatualkhuldi allatee wuAAida almuttaqoona kanat lahum jazaanwamaseeranقل اذلك خير ام جنة الخلد التي وعد المتقون كانت لهم جزاء ومصيرا
[YA]: Say: "Is that best, or the eternal garden, promised to the righteous? for them, that is a reward as well as a goal (of attainment).

[RK]:Say, "Is this better or the eternal Paradise that is promised for the righteous? It is their well deserved reward; a well deserved destiny."

Wayawma yahshuruhum wamayaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi fayaqoolu aantum adlaltumAAibadee haola-i am hum dalloo alssabeelaويوم يحشرهم ومايعبدون من دون الله فيقول ءانتم اضللتم عبادي هؤلاء ام هم ضلوا السبيل
[YA]: The day He will gather them together as well as those whom they worship besides Allah, He will ask: "Was it ye who let these My servants astray, or did they stray from the Path themselves?"

[RK]:On the day when He summons them, together with the idols they had set up beside GOD, He will say, "Have you misled these servants of Mine, or did they go astray on their own?"

Qaloo subhanaka ma kanayanbaghee lana an nattakhitha min doonika min awliyaawalakin mattaAAtahum waabaahum hattanasoo alththikra wakanoo qawman booranقالوا سبحانك ماكان ينبغي لنا ان نتخذ من دونك من اولياء ولكن متعتهم واباهم حتي نسوا الذكر وكانوا قوما بورا
[YA]: They will say: "Glory to Thee! not meet was it for us that we should take for protectors others besides Thee: But Thou didst bestow, on them and their fathers, good things (in life), until they forgot the Message: for they were a people (worthless and) lost."

[RK]:They will say, "Be You glorified, it was not right for us to set up any lords beside You. But You allowed them to enjoy, together with their parents. Consequently, they disregarded the message and thus became wicked people."

Faqad kaththabookum bimataqooloona fama tastateeAAoona sarfan walanasran waman yathlim minkum nuthiqhuAAathaban kabeeranفقد كذبوكم بما تقولون فما تستطيعون صرفا ولانصرا ومن يظلم منكم نذقه عذابا كبيرا
[YA]: (Allah will say): "Now have they proved you liars in what ye say: so ye cannot avert (your penalty) nor (get) help." And whoever among you does wrong, him shall We cause to taste of a grievous Penalty.

[RK]:They have disbelieved in the message you have given them, and, consequently, you can neither protect them from the retribution they have incurred, nor can you help them in any way. Anyone among you who commits evil, we will commit him to severe retribution.

Waqala allatheena layarjoona liqaana lawla onzila AAalaynaalmala-ikatu aw nara rabbana laqadiistakbaroo fee anfusihim waAAataw AAutuwwan kabeeranوقال الذين لايرجون لقاءنا لولا انزل علينا الملائكة او نري ربنا لقد استكبروا في انفسهم وعتوا عتوا كبيرا
[YA]: Such as fear not the meeting with Us (for Judgment) say: "Why are not the angels sent down to us, or (why) do we not see our Lord?" Indeed they have an arrogant conceit of themselves, and mighty is the insolence of their impiety!

[RK]:Those who do not expect to meet us said, "If only the angels could come down to us, or we could see our Lord (we would then believe)!" Indeed, they have committed a gross arrogance, and have produced a gross blasphemy.

Yawma yarawna almala-ikata labushra yawma-ithin lilmujrimeena wayaqooloona hijranmahjooranيوم يرون الملائكة لابشري يومئذ للمجرمين ويقولون حجرا محجورا
[YA]: The Day they see the angels,- no joy will there be to the sinners that Day: The (angels) will say: "There is a barrier forbidden (to you) altogether!"

[RK]:The day they see the angels, it will not be good news for the guilty; they will say, "Now, we are irreversibly confined."

As-habu aljannati yawma-ithinkhayrun mustaqarran waahsanu maqeelanاصحاب الجنة يومئذ خير مستقرا واحسن مقيلا
[YA]: The Companions of the Garden will be well, that Day, in their abode, and have the fairest of places for repose.

[RK]:The dwellers of Paradise are far better on that day; they will hear better news.
