[YA]: (Allah) said: "Granted is thy prayer, O Moses!"

[RK]:He said, "Your request is granted, O Moses.

Ith tamshee okhtuka fataqoolu haladullukum AAala man yakfuluhu farajaAAnaka ilaommika kay taqarra AAaynuha wala tahzanawaqatalta nafsan fanajjaynaka mina alghammi wafatannakafutoonan falabithta sineena fee ahli madyana thumma ji/ta AAalaqadarin ya moosaاذ تمشي اختك فتقول هل ادلكم علي من يكفله فرجعناك الي امك كي تقر عينها ولاتحزن وقتلت نفسا فنجيناك من الغم وفتناك فتونا فلبثت سنين في اهل مدين ثم جئت علي قدر ياموسي
[YA]: "Behold! thy sister goeth forth and saith, 'shall I show you one who will nurse and rear the (child)?' So We brought thee back to thy mother, that her eye might be cooled and she should not grieve. Then thou didst slay a man, but We saved thee from trouble, and We tried thee in various ways. Then didst thou tarry a number of years with the people of Midian. Then didst thou come hither as ordained, O Moses!

[RK]:"Your sister walked to them and said, `I can tell you about a nursing mother who can take good care of him.' We thus returned you to your mother, that she may be happy and stop worrying. And when you killed a person, we saved you from the grievous consequences; indeed we tested you thoroughly. You stayed years with the people of Midyan, and now you have come back in accordance with a precise plan.

[YA]: "But speak to him mildly; perchance he may take warning or fear (Allah)."

[RK]:"Speak to him nicely; he may take heed, or become reverent."

[YA]: "But speak to him mildly; perchance he may take warning or fear (Allah)."

[YA]: They (Moses and Aaron) said: "Our Lord! We fear lest he hasten with insolence against us, or lest he transgress all bounds."

[RK]:They said, "Our Lord, we fear lest he may attack us, or transgress."

[YA]: He said: "Fear not: for I am with you: I hear and see (everything).

[RK]:He said, "Do not be afraid, for I will be with you, listening and watching.

Fa/tiyahu faqoola innarasoola rabbika faarsil maAAana banee isra-eelawala tuAAaththibhum qad ji/naka bi-ayatinmin rabbika waalssalamu AAala mani ittabaAAaalhudaفاتياه فقولا انا رسولا ربك فارسل معنا بني اسرائيل ولاتعذبهم قد جئناك باية من ربك والسلام علي من اتبع الهدي
[YA]: "So go ye both to him, and say, 'Verily we are messengers sent by thy Lord: Send forth, therefore, the Children of Israel with us, and afflict them not: with a Sign, indeed, have we come from thy Lord! and peace to all who follow guidance!

[RK]:"Go to him and say, `We are two messengers from your Lord. Let the Children of Israel go. You must refrain from persecuting them. We bring a sign from your Lord, and peace is the lot of those who heed the guidance.

[YA]: (When this message was delivered), (Pharaoh) said: "Who, then, O Moses, is the Lord of you two?"

[RK]:He said, "Who is your Lord, O Moses."

Qala rabbuna allatheeaAAta kulla shay-in khalqahu thumma hadaقال ربنا الذي اعطي كل شي خلقه ثم هدي
[YA]: He said: "Our Lord is He Who gave to each (created) thing its form and nature, and further, gave (it) guidance."

[RK]:He said, "Our Lord is the One who granted everything its existence, and its guidance."

[YA]: (Pharaoh) said: "What then is the condition of previous generations?"

[RK]:He said, "What about the past generations?"

[YA]: He replied: "The knowledge of that is with my Lord, duly recorded: my Lord never errs, nor forgets,-

[RK]:He said, "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord in a record. My Lord never errs, nor does He forget."

[YA]: He said: "Hast thou come to drive us out of our land with thy magic, O Moses?

[RK]:He said, "Did you come here to take us out of our land with your magic, O Moses?

Qala mawAAidukum yawmu alzzeenatiwaan yuhshara alnnasu duhanقال موعدكم يوم الزينة وان يحشر الناس ضحي
[YA]: Moses said: "Your tryst is the Day of the Festival, and let the people be assembled when the sun is well up."

[RK]:He said, "Your appointed time shall be the day of festivities. Let us all meet in the forenoon."

Qala lahum moosa waylakum lataftaroo AAala Allahi kathiban fayushitakumbiAAathabin waqad khaba mani iftaraقال لهم موسي ويلكم لاتفتروا علي الله كذبا فيسحتكم بعذاب وقد خاب من افتري
[YA]: Moses said to him: Woe to you! Forge not ye a lie against Allah, lest He destroy you (at once) utterly by chastisement: the forger must suffer frustration!"

[RK]:Moses said to them, "Woe to you. Do you fabricate lies to fight GOD and thus incur His retribution? Such fabricators will surely fail."

Qaloo in hathani lasahiraniyureedani an yukhrijakum min ardikum bisihrihimawayathhaba bitareeqatikumu almuthlaقالوا ان هذان لساحران يريدان ان يخرجاكم من ارضكم بسحرهما ويذهبا بطريقتكم المثلي
[YA]: They said: "These two are certainly (expert) magicians: their object is to drive you out from your land with their magic, and to do away with your most cherished institutions.

[RK]:They said, "These two are no more than magicians who wish to take you out of your land with their magic, and to destroy your ideal way of life.

Qaloo ya moosa immaan tulqiya wa-imma an nakoona awwala man alqaقالوا ياموسي اما ان تلقي واما ان نكون اول من القي
[YA]: They said: "O Moses! whether wilt thou that thou throw (first) or that we be the first to throw?"

[RK]:They said, "O Moses, either you throw, or we will be the first to throw."

Qala bal alqoo fa-itha hibaluhumwaAAisiyyuhum yukhayyalu ilayhi min sihrihim annahatasAAaقال بل القوا فاذا حبالهم وعصيهم يخيل اليه من سحرهم انها تسعي
[YA]: He said, "Nay, throw ye first!" Then behold their ropes and their rods-so it seemed to him on account of their magic - began to be in lively motion!

[RK]:He said, "You throw." Whereupon, their ropes and sticks appeared to him, because of their magic, as if they were moving.

[YA]: We said: "Fear not! for thou hast indeed the upper hand:

[RK]:We said, "Have no fear. You will prevail.

Faolqiya alssaharatu sujjadanqaloo amanna birabbi haroona wamoosaفالقي السحرة سجدا قالوا امنا برب هارون وموسي
[YA]: So the magicians were thrown down to prostration: they said, "We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses".

[RK]:The magicians fell prostrate, saying, "We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses."

Qala amantum lahu qabla an athanalakum innahu lakabeerukumu allathee AAallamakumu alssihrafalaoqattiAAanna aydiyakum waarjulakum min khilafinwalaosallibannakum fee juthooAAi alnnakhliwalataAAlamunna ayyuna ashaddu AAathaban waabqaقال امنتم له قبل ان اذن لكم انه لكبيركم الذي علمكم السحر فلاقطعن ايديكم وارجلكم من خلاف ولاصلبنكم في جذوع النخل ولتعلمن اينا اشد عذابا وابقي
[YA]: (Pharaoh) said: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this must be your leader, who has taught you magic! be sure I will cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and I will have you crucified on trunks of palm-trees: so shall ye know for certain, which of us can give the more severe and the more lasting punishment!"

[RK]:He said, "Did you believe in him without my permission? He must be your chief; the one who taught you magic. I will surely sever your hands and feet on alternate sides. I will crucify you on the palm trunks. You will find out which of us can inflict the worst retribution, and who outlasts whom."

Qaloo lan nu/thiraka AAala majaana mina albayyinati waallatheefatarana faiqdi ma anta qadininnama taqdee hathihi alhayataalddunyaقالوا لن نؤثرك علي ماجاءنا من البينات والذي فطرنا فاقض ماانت قاض انما تقضي هذه الحياة الدنيا
[YA]: They said: "Never shall we regard thee as more than the Clear Signs that have come to us, or than Him Who created us! so decree whatever thou desirest to decree: for thou canst only decree (touching) the life of this world.

[RK]:They said, "We will not prefer you over the clear proofs that came to us, and over the One who created us. Therefore, issue whatever judgment you wish to issue. You can only rule in this lowly life.

Qala hum ola-i AAalaatharee waAAajiltu ilayka rabbi litardaقال هم اولاء علي اثري وعجلت اليك رب لترضي
[YA]: He replied: "Behold, they are close on my footsteps: I hastened to thee, O my Lord, to please thee."

[RK]:He said, "They are close behind me. I have rushed to You my Lord, that You may be pleased."

Qala fa-inna qad fatannaqawmaka min baAAdika waadallahumu alssamiriyyuقال فانا قد فتنا قومك من بعدك واضلهم السامري
[YA]: (Allah) said: "We have tested thy people in thy absence: the Samiri has led them astray."

[RK]:He said, "We have put your people to the test after you left, but the Samarian misled them."

FarajaAAa moosa ila qawmihighadbana asifan qala ya qawmi alamyaAAidkum rabbukum waAAdan hasanan afatalaAAalaykumu alAAahdu am aradtum an yahilla AAalaykum ghadabunmin rabbikum faakhlaftum mawAAideeفرجع موسي الي قومه غضبان اسفا قال ياقوم الم يعدكم ربكم وعدا حسنا افطال عليكم العهد ام اردتم ان يحل عليكم غضب من ربكم فاخلفتم موعدي
[YA]: So Moses returned to his people in a state of indignation and sorrow. He said: "O my people! did not your Lord make a handsome promise to you? Did then the promise seem to you long (in coming)? Or did ye desire that Wrath should descend from your Lord on you, and so ye broke your promise to me?"

[RK]:Moses returned to his people, angry and disappointed, saying, "O my people, did your Lord not promise you a good promise? Could you not wait? Did you want to incur wrath from your Lord? Is this why you broke your agreement with me?"

Qaloo ma akhlafnamawAAidaka bimalkina walakinna hummilnaawzaran min zeenati alqawmi faqathafnahafakathalika alqa alssamiriyyuقالوا مااخلفنا موعدك بملكنا ولكنا حملنا اوزارا من زينة القوم فقذفناها فكذلك القي السامري
[YA]: They said: "We broke not the promise to thee, as far as lay in our power: but we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the (whole) people, and we threw them (into the fire), and that was what the Samiri suggested.

[RK]:They said, "We did not break our agreement with you on purpose. But we were loaded down with jewelry, and decided to throw our loads in. This is what the Samarian suggested."

Faakhraja lahum AAijlan jasadan lahu khuwarunfaqaloo hatha ilahukum wa-ilahu moosafanasiyaفاخرج لهم عجلا جسدا له خوار فقالوا هذا الهكم واله موسي فنسي
[YA]: "Then he brought out (of the fire) before the (people) the image of a calf: It seemed to low: so they said: This is your god, and the god of Moses, but (Moses) has forgotten!"

[RK]:He produced for them a sculpted calf, complete with a calf's sound. They said, "This is your god, and the god of Moses." Thus, he forgot.

Afala yarawna alla yarjiAAuilayhim qawlan wala yamliku lahum darran walanafAAanافلا يرون الا يرجع اليهم قولا ولايملك لهم ضرا ولانفعا
[YA]: Could they not see that it could not return them a word (for answer), and that it had no power either to harm them or to do them good?

[RK]:Could they not see that it neither responded to them, nor possessed any power to harm them, or benefit them?

Walaqad qala lahum haroonu minqablu ya qawmi innama futintum bihi wa-innarabbakumu alrrahmanu faittabiAAooneewaateeAAoo amreeولقد قال لهم هارون من قبل ياقوم انما فتنتم به وان ربكم الرحمن فاتبعوني واطيعوا امري
[YA]: Aaron had already, before this said to them: "O my people! ye are being tested in this: for verily your Lord is (Allah) Most Gracious; so follow me and obey my command."

[RK]:And Aaron had told them, "O my people, this is a test for you. Your only Lord is the Most Gracious, so follow me, and obey my commands."

Qaloo lan nabraha AAalayhi AAakifeenahatta yarjiAAa ilayna moosaقالوا لن نبرح عليه عاكفين حتي يرجع الينا موسي
[YA]: They had said: "We will not abandon this cult, but we will devote ourselves to it until Moses returns to us."

[RK]:They said, "We will continue to worship it, until Moses comes back."

[YA]: (Moses) said: "O Aaron! what kept thee back, when thou sawest them going wrong,

[RK]:(Moses) said, "O Aaron, what is it that prevented you, when you saw them go astray,

Qala yabnaomma la ta/khuthbilihyatee wala bira/see innee khasheetu an taqoolafarraqta bayna banee isra-eela walam tarqub qawleeقال يابن ام لاتاخذ بلحيتي ولابراسي اني خشيت ان تقول فرقت بين بني اسرائيل ولم ترقب قولي
[YA]: (Aaron) replied: "O son of my mother! Seize (me) not by my beard nor by (the hair of) my head! Truly I feared lest thou shouldst say, 'Thou has caused a division among the children of Israel, and thou didst not respect my word!'"

[RK]:He said, "O son of my mother; do not pull me by my beard and my head. I was afraid that you might say, `You have divided the Children of Israel, and disobeyed my orders.' "

[YA]: (Aaron) replied: "O son of my mother! Seize (me) not by my beard nor by (the hair of) my head! Truly I feared lest thou shouldst say, 'Thou has caused a division among the children of Israel, and thou didst not respect my word!'"

[RK]:He said, "O son of my mother; do not pull me by my beard and my head. I was afraid that you might say, `You have divided the Children of Israel, and disobeyed my orders.' "

[YA]: (Aaron) replied: "O son of my mother! Seize (me) not by my beard nor by (the hair of) my head! Truly I feared lest thou shouldst say, 'Thou has caused a division among the children of Israel, and thou didst not respect my word!'"

[RK]:He said, "O son of my mother; do not pull me by my beard and my head. I was afraid that you might say, `You have divided the Children of Israel, and disobeyed my orders.' "

[YA]: (Moses) said: "What then is thy case, O Samiri?"

[RK]:He said, "What is the matter with you, O Samarian?"

Qala basurtu bima lamyabsuroo bihi faqabadtu qabdatan min atharialrrasooli fanabathtuha wakathalikasawwalat lee nafseeقال بصرت بما لم يبصروا به فقبضت قبضة من اثر الرسول فنبذتها وكذلك سولت لي نفسي
[YA]: He replied: "I saw what they saw not: so I took a handful (of dust) from the footprint of the Messenger, and threw it (into the calf): thus did my soul suggest to me."

[RK]:He said, "I saw what they could not see. I grabbed a fistful (of dust) from the place where the messenger stood, and used it (to mix into the golden calf). This is what my mind inspired me to do."

Qala faithhab fa-innalaka fee alhayati an taqoola la misasawa-inna laka mawAAidan lan tukhlafahu waonthurila ilahika allathee thaltaAAalayhi AAakifan lanuharriqannahu thummalanansifannahu fee alyammi nasfanقال فاذهب فان لك في الحياة ان تقول لامساس وان لك موعدا لن تخلفه وانظر الي الهك الذي ظلت عليه عاكفا لنحرقنه ثم لننسفنه في اليم نسفا
[YA]: (Moses) said: "Get thee gone! but thy (punishment) in this life will be that thou wilt say, 'touch me not'; and moreover (for a future penalty) thou hast a promise that will not fail: Now look at thy god, of whom thou hast become a devoted worshipper: We will certainly (melt) it in a blazing fire and scatter it broadcast in the sea!"

[RK]:He said, "Then go, and, throughout your life, do not even come close. You have an appointed time (for your final judgment) that you can never evade. Look at your god that you used to worship; we will burn it and throw it into the sea, to stay down there forever."

Nahnu aAAlamu bima yaqooloonaith yaqoolu amthaluhum tareeqatan in labithtum illayawmanنحن اعلم بما يقولون اذ يقول امثلهم طريقة ان لبثتم الا يوما
[YA]: We know best what they will say, when their leader most eminent in conduct will say: "Ye tarried not longer than a day!"

[RK]:We are fully aware of their utterances. The most accurate among them will say, "You stayed no more than a day."

Nahnu aAAlamu bima yaqooloonaith yaqoolu amthaluhum tareeqatan in labithtum illayawmanنحن اعلم بما يقولون اذ يقول امثلهم طريقة ان لبثتم الا يوما
[YA]: We know best what they will say, when their leader most eminent in conduct will say: "Ye tarried not longer than a day!"

[RK]:We are fully aware of their utterances. The most accurate among them will say, "You stayed no more than a day."

Wayas-aloonaka AAani aljibali faqulyansifuha rabbee nasfanويسالونك عن الجبال فقل ينسفها ربي نسفا
[YA]: They ask thee concerning the Mountains: say, "My Lord will uproot them and scatter them as dust;

[RK]:They ask you about the mountains. Say, "My Lord will wipe them out.

Yawma-ithin la tanfaAAu alshshafaAAatuilla man athina lahu alrrahmanuwaradiya lahu qawlanيومئذ لاتنفع الشفاعة الا من اذن له الرحمن ورضي له قولا
[YA]: On that Day shall no intercession avail except for those for whom permission has been granted by (Allah) Most Gracious and whose word is acceptable to Him.

[RK]:On that day, intercession will be useless, except for those permitted by the Most Gracious, and whose utterances conform to His will.

FataAAala Allahualmaliku alhaqqu wala taAAjal bialqur-animin qabli an yuqda ilayka wahyuhu waqul rabbizidnee AAilmanفتعالي الله الملك الحق ولاتعجل بالقران من قبل ان يقضي اليك وحيه وقل رب زدني علما
[YA]: High above all is Allah, the King, the Truth! Be not in haste with the Qur'an before its revelation to thee is completed, but say, "O my Lord! advance me in knowledge."

[RK]:Most Exalted is GOD, the only true King. Do not rush into uttering the Quran before it is revealed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase my knowledge."

Wa-ith qulna lilmala-ikatiosjudoo li-adama fasajadoo illa ibleesa abaواذ قلنا للملائكة اسجدوا لادم فسجدوا الا ابليس ابي
[YA]: When We said to the angels, "Prostrate yourselves to Adam", they prostrated themselves, but not Iblis: he refused.

[RK]:Recall that we said to the angels, "Fall prostrate before Adam." They fell prostrate, except Satan; he refused.

Faqulna ya adamu innahatha AAaduwwun laka walizawjika falayukhrijannakuma mina aljannati fatashqaفقلنا ياادم ان هذا عدو لك ولزوجك فلايخرجنكما من الجنة فتشقي
[YA]: Then We said: "O Adam! verily, this is an enemy to thee and thy wife: so let him not get you both out of the Garden, so that thou art landed in misery.

[RK]:We then said, "O Adam, this is an enemy of you and your wife. Do not let him evict you from Paradise, lest you become miserable.

Fawaswasa ilayhi alshshaytanuqala ya adamu hal adulluka AAalashajarati alkhuldi wamulkin la yablaفوسوس اليه الشيطان قال ياادم هل ادلك علي شجرة الخلد وملك لايبلي
[YA]: But Satan whispered evil to him: he said, "O Adam! shall I lead thee to the Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that never decays?"

[RK]:But the devil whispered to him, saying, "O Adam, let me show you the tree of eternity and unending kingship."

Qala ihbita minhajameeAAan baAAdukum libaAAdin AAaduwwun fa-immaya/tiyannakum minnee hudan famani ittabaAAa hudaya falayadillu wala yashqaقال اهبطا منها جميعا بعضكم لبعض عدو فاما ياتينكم مني هدي فمن اتبع هداي فلايضل ولايشقي
[YA]: He said: "Get ye down, both of you,- all together, from the Garden, with enmity one to another: but if, as is sure, there comes to you Guidance from Me, whosoever follows My Guidance, will not lose his way, nor fall into misery.

[RK]:He said, "Go down therefrom, all of you. You are enemies of one another. When guidance comes to you from Me, anyone who follows My guidance will not go astray, nor suffer any misery.

[YA]: He will say: "O my Lord! why hast Thou raised me up blind, while I had sight (before)?"

[RK]:He will say, "My Lord, why did you summon me blind, when I used to be a seer?"

Qala kathalika atatka ayatunafanaseetaha wakathalika alyawma tunsaقال كذلك اتتك اياتنا فنسيتها وكذلك اليوم تنسي
[YA]: (Allah) will say: "Thus didst Thou, when Our Signs came unto thee, disregard them: so wilt thou, this day, be disregarded."

[RK]:He will say, "Because you forgot our revelations when they came to you, you are now forgotten."
