[YA]: And Solomon was David's heir. He said: "O ye people! We have been taught the speech of birds, and on us has been bestowed (a little) of all things: this is indeed Grace manifest (from Allah.)" [RK]:Solomon was David's heir. He said, "O people, we have been endowed with understanding the language of the birds, and all kinds of things have been bestowed upon us. This is indeed a real blessing." | ||||

[YA]: At length, when they came to a (lowly) valley of ants, one of the ants said: "O ye ants, get into your habitations, lest Solomon and his hosts crush you (under foot) without knowing it." [RK]:When they approached the valley of the ants, one ant said, "O you ants, go into your homes, lest you get crushed by Solomon and his soldiers, without perceiving." | ||||

[YA]: So he smiled, amused at her speech; and he said: "O my Lord! so order me that I may be grateful for Thy favours, which thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may work the righteousness that will please Thee: And admit me, by Thy Grace, to the ranks of Thy righteous Servants." [RK]:He smiled and laughed at her statement, and said, "My Lord, direct me to be appreciative of the blessings You have bestowed upon me and my parents, and to do the righteous works that please You. Admit me by Your mercy into the company of Your righteous servants." | ||||

[YA]: But the Hoopoe tarried not far: he (came up and) said: "I have compassed (territory) which thou hast not compassed, and I have come to thee from Saba with tidings true. [YA]: (Solomon) said: "Soon shall we see whether thou hast told the truth or lied! [RK]:(Solomon) said, "We will see if you told the truth, or if you are a liar. | ||||

[YA]: (The queen) said: "Ye chiefs! here is delivered to me - a letter worthy of respect. [RK]:She said, "O my advisers, I have received an honorable letter. | ||||

[YA]: They said: "We are endued with strength, and given to vehement war: but the command is with thee; so consider what thou wilt command." [RK]:They said, "We possess the power, we possess the fighting skills, and the ultimate command is in your hand. You decide what to do." | ||||

[YA]: She said: "Kings, when they enter a country, despoil it, and make the noblest of its people its meanest thus do they behave. [RK]:She said, "The kings corrupt any land they invade, and subjugate its dignified people. This is what they usually do. | ||||

[YA]: Now when (the embassy) came to Solomon, he said: "Will ye give me abundance in wealth? But that which Allah has given me is better than that which He has given you! Nay it is ye who rejoice in your gift! [RK]:When the hoopoe returned to Solomon (he told him the news), and he responded (to Sheba's people): "Are you giving me money? What GOD has given me is far better than what He has given you. You are the ones to rejoice in such gifts." | ||||

[YA]: He said (to his own men): "Ye chiefs! which of you can bring me her throne before they come to me in submission?" [RK]:He said, "O you elders, which of you can bring me her mansion, before they arrive here as submitters?" | ||||

[YA]: Said an 'Ifrit, of the Jinns: "I will bring it to thee before thou rise from thy council: indeed I have full strength for the purpose, and may be trusted." [RK]:One afrit from the jinns said, "I can bring it to you before you stand up. I am powerful enough to do this." | ||||

[YA]: Said one who had knowledge of the Book: "I will bring it to thee within the twinkling of an eye!" Then when (Solomon) saw it placed firmly before him, he said: "This is by the Grace of my Lord!- to test me whether I am grateful or ungrateful! and if any is grateful, truly his gratitude is (a gain) for his own soul; but if any is ungrateful, truly my Lord is Free of all Needs, Supreme in Honour !" [RK]:The one who possessed knowledge from the book said, "I can bring it to you in the blink of your eye." When he saw it settled in front of him, he said, "This is a blessing from my Lord, whereby He tests me, to show whether I am appreciative or unappreciative. Whoever is appreciative is appreciative for his own good, and if one turns unappreciative, then my Lord is in no need for him, Most Honorable." | ||||

[YA]: So when she arrived, she was asked, "Is this thy throne?" She said, "It was just like this; and knowledge was bestowed on us in advance of this, and we have submitted to Allah (in Islam)." (Solomon said,) "We knew beforehand what she was going to do, and we were already submitters." | ||||

He said: "This is but a palace paved smooth with slabs of glass." She said: "O my Lord! I have indeed wronged my soul: I do (now) submit (in Islam), with Solomon, to the Lord of the Worlds." [RK]:She was told, "Go inside the palace." When she saw its interior, she thought it was a pool of water, and she (pulled up her dress,) exposing her legs. He said, "This interior is now paved with crystal." She said, "My Lord, I have wronged my soul. I now submit with Solomon to GOD, Lord of the universe." | ||||

[YA]: He said: "O my people! why ask ye to hasten on the evil in preference to the good? If only ye ask Allah for forgiveness, ye may hope to receive mercy. [RK]:He said, "O my people, why do you hasten to commit evil instead of good works? If only you implore GOD for forgiveness, you may attain mercy." | ||||

[YA]: They said: "Ill omen do we augur from thee and those that are with thee". He said: "Your ill omen is with Allah; yea, ye are a people under trial." [RK]:They said, "We consider you a bad omen for us, you and those who joined you." He said, "Your omen is fully controlled by GOD. Indeed, you are deviant people." | ||||

[YA]: They said: "Ill omen do we augur from thee and those that are with thee". He said: "Your ill omen is with Allah; yea, ye are a people under trial." [RK]:They said, "We consider you a bad omen for us, you and those who joined you." He said, "Your omen is fully controlled by GOD. Indeed, you are deviant people." | ||||

[YA]: They said: "Swear a mutual oath by Allah that we shall make a secret night attack on him and his people, and that we shall then say to his heir (when he seeks vengeance): 'We were not present at the slaughter of his people, and we are positively telling the truth.'" [RK]:They said, "Let us swear by GOD that we kill him and his people, then tell his tribe, `We know nothing about their death. We are truthful.' " | ||||

[YA]: They said: "Swear a mutual oath by Allah that we shall make a secret night attack on him and his people, and that we shall then say to his heir (when he seeks vengeance): 'We were not present at the slaughter of his people, and we are positively telling the truth.'" [RK]:They said, "Let us swear by GOD that we kill him and his people, then tell his tribe, `We know nothing about their death. We are truthful.' " | ||||

[YA]: (We also sent) Lut (as a messenger): behold, He said to his people, "Do ye do what is shameful though ye see (its iniquity)? [RK]:Lot said to his people, "How could you commit such an abomination, publicly, while you see? | ||||

[YA]: But his people gave no other answer but this: they said, "Drive out the followers of Lut from your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!" [YA]: Say: Praise be to Allah, and Peace on his servants whom He has chosen (for his Message). (Who) is better?- Allah or the false gods they associate (with Him)? [RK]:Say, "Praise be to GOD and peace be upon His servants whom He chose. Is GOD better, or the idols some people set up?" | ||||

[YA]: Or, Who originates creation, then repeats it, and who gives you sustenance from heaven and earth? (Can there be another) god besides Allah? Say, "Bring forth your argument, if ye are telling the truth!" [RK]:Who is the One who initiates the creation, then repeats it? Who is the One who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? Is it another god with GOD? Say, "Show me your proof, if you are truthful." | ||||

[YA]: Say: None in the heavens or on earth, except Allah, knows what is hidden: nor can they perceive when they shall be raised up (for Judgment). [RK]:Say, "No one in the heavens and the earth knows the future except GOD. They do not even perceive how or when they will be resurrected." | ||||

[YA]: The Unbelievers say: "What! when we become dust,- we and our fathers,- shall we really be raised (from the dead)? [RK]:Those who disbelieved said, "After we turn into dust, and also our parents, do we get brought out? | ||||
