[YA]: Blessed be He in Whose hands is Dominion; and He over all things hath Power;-

[RK]:Most exalted is the One in whose hands is all kingship, and He is Omnipotent.

Am amintum man fee alssama-ian yursila AAalaykum hasiban fasataAAlamoona kayfa natheeriام امنتم من في السماء ان يرسل عليكم حاصبا فستعلمون كيف نذير
[YA]: Or do ye feel secure that He Who is in Heaven will not send against you a violent tornado (with showers of stones), so that ye shall know how (terrible) was My warning?

[RK]:Have you guaranteed that the One in heaven will not send upon you a violent storm? Will you then appreciate the value of My warning?

[YA]: Is then one who walks headlong, with his face grovelling, better guided,- or one who walks evenly on a Straight Way?

[RK]:Is one who walks while slumped over on his face better guided, or one who walks straight on the right path?

[YA]: Is then one who walks headlong, with his face grovelling, better guided,- or one who walks evenly on a Straight Way?

[RK]:Is one who walks while slumped over on his face better guided, or one who walks straight on the right path?

Qul huwa alrrahmanu amannabihi waAAalayhi tawakkalna fasataAAlamoona man huwa fee dalalinmubeeninقل هو الرحمن امنا به وعليه توكلنا فستعلمون من هو في ضلال مبين
[YA]: Say: "He is (Allah) Most Gracious: We have believed in Him, and on Him have we put our trust: So, soon will ye know which (of us) it is that is in manifest error."

[RK]:Say, "He is the Most Gracious; we believe in Him, and we trust in Him. You will surely find out who is really far astray."

[YA]: And thou (standest) on an exalted standard of character.

[RK]:You are blessed with a great moral character.

Itha tutla AAalayhi ayatunaqala asateeru al-awwaleenaاذا تتلي عليه اياتنا قال اساطير الاولين
[YA]: When to him are rehearsed Our Signs, "Tales of the ancients", he cries!

[RK]:When our revelations are recited to him, he says, "Tales from the past!"

Sanasimuhu AAala alkhurtoomiسنسمه علي الخرطوم
[YA]: Soon shall We brand (the beast) on the snout!

[RK]:We will mark his face.

Fatafa AAalayha ta-ifunmin rabbika wahum na-imoonaفطاف عليها طائف من ربك وهم نائمون
[YA]: Then there came on the (garden) a visitation from thy Lord, (which swept away) all around, while they were asleep.

[RK]:A passing (storm) from your Lord passed by it while they were asleep.

Ani ighdoo AAala harthikum inkuntum sarimeenaان اغدوا علي حرثكم ان كنتم صارمين
[YA]: "Go ye to your tilth (betimes) in the morning, if ye would gather the fruits."

[RK]:"Let us harvest the crop."

An la yadkhulannaha alyawmaAAalaykum miskeenunان لايدخلنها اليوم عليكم مسكين
[YA]: "Let not a single indigent person break in upon you into the (garden) this day."

[RK]:That from then on, none of them would be poor.

Waghadaw AAala hardin qadireenaوغدوا علي حرد قادرين
[YA]: And they opened the morning, strong in an (unjust) resolve.

[RK]:They were so absolutely sure of their harvest.

Faaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatalawamoonaفاقبل بعضهم علي بعض يتلاومون
[YA]: Then they turned, one against another, in reproach.

[RK]:They started to blame each other.

Am lakum aymanun AAalayna balighatunila yawmi alqiyamati inna lakum lama tahkumoonaام لكم ايمان علينا بالغة الي يوم القيامة ان لكم لما تحكمون
[YA]: Or have ye Covenants with Us to oath, reaching to the Day of Judgment, (providing) that ye shall have whatever ye shall demand?

[RK]:Or, have you received solemn assurances from us that grant you whatever you wish on the Day of Resurrection?

Sakhkharaha AAalayhim sabAAa layalinwathamaniyata ayyamin husooman fataraalqawma feeha sarAAa kaannahum aAAjazunakhlin khawiyatunسخرها عليهم سبع ليال وثمانية ايام حسوما فتري القوم فيها صرعي كانهم اعجاز نخل خاوية
[YA]: He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that thou couldst see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm-trees tumbled down!

[RK]:He unleashed it upon them for seven nights and eight days, violently. You could see the people tossed around like decayed palm trunks.

Waalmalaku AAala arja-ihawayahmilu AAarsha rabbika fawqahum yawma-ithin thamaniyatunوالملك علي ارجائها ويحمل عرش ربك فوقهم يومئذ ثمانية
[YA]: And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them.

[RK]:The angels will be all around, and Your Lord's dominion will then encompass eight (universes).

[YA]: In a Garden on high,

[YA]: "And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent!

[RK]:Nor did he advocate the feeding of the poor.

[YA]: And if the messenger were to invent any sayings in Our name,

[RK]:Had he uttered any other teachings.

Wa-innahu lahasratun AAala alkafireenaوانه لحسرة علي الكافرين
[YA]: But truly (Revelation) is a cause of sorrow for the Unbelievers.

[RK]:It is but sorrow for the disbelievers.

[YA]: Those who remain steadfast to their prayer;

[RK]:Who always observe their contact prayers (Salat).

Illa AAala azwajihim awma malakat aymanuhum fa-innahum ghayru maloomeenaالا علي ازواجهم او ماملكت ايمانهم فانهم غير ملومين
[YA]: Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed,

[RK]:(They have relations) only with their spouses, or what is legally theirs -

Waallatheena hum AAala salatihimyuhafithoonaوالذين هم علي صلاتهم يحافظون
[YA]: And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;-

[RK]:They consistently observe their contact prayers (Salat) on time.

AAala an nubaddila khayran minhum wamanahnu bimasbooqeenaعلي ان نبدل خيرا منهم ومانحن بمسبوقين
[YA]: Substitute for them better (men) than they; And We are not to be defeated (in Our Plan).

[RK]:to substitute better people in your place; we can never be defeated.

Yursili alssamaa AAalaykummidraran يرسل السماء عليكم مدرارا
[YA]: "'He will send rain to you in abundance;

[RK]:" `He will then shower you generously with rain.

Waqala noohun rabbi latathar AAala al-ardi mina alkafireenadayyaranوقال نوح رب لاتذر علي الارض من الكافرين ديارا
[YA]: And Noah, said: "O my Lord! Leave not of the Unbelievers, a single one on earth!

[RK]:Noah also said, "My Lord, do not leave a single disbeliever on earth.

Waannahu kana yaqoolu safeehunaAAala Allahi shatatanوانه كان يقول سفيهنا علي الله شططا
[YA]: 'There were some foolish ones among us, who used to utter extravagant lies against Allah;

[RK]:" `It is the foolish among us who used to utter such nonsense about GOD.

Waanna thanannaan lan taqoola al-insu waaljinnu AAala Allahikathibanوانا ظننا ان لن تقول الانس والجن علي الله كذبا
[YA]: 'But we do think that no man or spirit should say aught that untrue against Allah.

[RK]:" `We thought that neither the humans, nor the jinns, could possibly utter lies about GOD.

Waallawi istaqamoo AAala alttareeqatilaasqaynahum maan ghadaqanوالو استقاموا علي الطريقة لاسقيناهم ماء غدقا
[YA]: (And Allah's Message is): "If they (the Pagans) had (only) remained on the (right) Way, We should certainly have bestowed on them Rain in abundance.

[RK]:If they remain on the right path, we will bless them with abundant water.

Waannahu lamma qama AAabdu AllahiyadAAoohu kadoo yakoonoona AAalayhi libadanوانه لما قام عبد الله يدعوه كادوا يكونون عليه لبدا
[YA]: "Yet when the Devotee of Allah stands forth to invoke Him, they just make round him a dense crowd."

[RK]:When GOD's servant advocated Him alone, almost all of them banded together to oppose him.

AAalimu alghaybi fala yuthhiruAAala ghaybihi ahadanعالم الغيب فلا يظهر علي غيبه احدا
[YA]: "He (alone) knows the Unseen, nor does He make any one acquainted with His Mysteries,-

[RK]:He is the Knower of the future; He does not reveal the future to anyone.

Aw zid AAalayhi warattili alqur-anatarteelanاو زد عليه ورتل القران ترتيلا
[YA]: Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones.

[RK]:Or a little more. And read the Quran from cover to cover.

Inna sanulqee AAalayka qawlan thaqeelanانا سنلقي عليك قولا ثقيلا
[YA]: Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message.

[RK]:We will give you a heavy message.

Waisbir AAala mayaqooloona waohjurhum hajran jameelanواصبر علي مايقولون واهجرهم هجرا جميلا
[YA]: And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity).

[RK]:And remain steadfast in the face of their utterances, and disregard them in a nice manner.

Inna arsalna ilaykum rasoolanshahidan AAalaykum kama arsalna ilafirAAawna rasoolanانا ارسلنا اليكم رسولا شاهدا عليكم كما ارسلنا الي فرعون رسولا
[YA]: We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh.

[RK]:We have sent to you a messenger, just as we sent to Pharaoh a messenger.

Inna rabbaka yaAAlamu annaka taqoomu adnamin thuluthayi allayli wanisfahu wathuluthahu wata-ifatunmina allatheena maAAaka waAllahu yuqaddiruallayla waalnnahara AAalima an lan tuhsoohufataba AAalaykum faiqraoo ma tayassara minaalqur-ani AAalima an sayakoonu minkum marda waakharoonayadriboona fee al-ardi yabtaghoona min fadliAllahi waakharoona yuqatiloona fee sabeeliAllahi faiqraoo ma tayassara minhu waaqeemooalssalata waatoo alzzakatawaaqridoo Allaha qardan hasanan wamatuqaddimoo li-anfusikum min khayrin tajidoohu AAinda Allahihuwa khayran waaAAthama ajran waistaghfirooAllaha inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemunان ربك يعلم انك تقوم ادني من ثلثي الليل ونصفه وثلثه وطائفة من الذين معك والله يقدر الليل والنهار علم ان لن تحصوه فتاب عليكم فاقرؤوا ماتيسر من القران علم ان سيكون منكم مرضي واخرون يضربون في الارض يبتغون من فضل الله واخرون يقاتلون في سبيل الله فاقرؤوا ماتيسر منه واقيموا الصلاة واتوا الزكاة واقرضوا الله قرضا حسنا وماتقدموا لانفسكم من خير تجدوه عند الله هو خيرا واعظم اجرا واستغفروا الله ان الله غفور رحيم
[YA]: Thy Lord doth know that thou standest forth (to prayer) nigh two-thirds of the night, or half the night, or a third of the night, and so doth a party of those with thee. But Allah doth appoint night and day in due measure He knoweth that ye are unable to keep count thereof. So He hath turned to you (in mercy): read ye, therefore, of the Qur'an as much as may be easy for you. He knoweth that there may be (some) among you in ill-health; others travelling through the land, seeking of Allah's bounty; yet others fighting in Allah's Cause, read ye, therefore, as much of the Qur'an as may be easy (for you); and establish regular Prayer and give regular Charity; and loan to Allah a Beautiful Loan. And whatever good ye send forth for your souls ye shall find it in Allah's Presence,- yea, better and greater, in Reward and seek ye the Grace of Allah: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

[RK]:Your Lord knows that you meditate during two-thirds of the night, or half of it, or one-third of it, and so do some of those who believed with you. GOD has designed the night and the day, and He knows that you cannot always do this. He has pardoned you. Instead, you shall read what you can of the Quran. He knows that some of you may be ill, others may be traveling in pursuit of GOD's provisions, and others may be striving in the cause of GOD. You shall read what you can of it, and observe the contact prayers (Salat), give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and lend GOD a loan of righteousness. Whatever good you send ahead on behalf of your souls, you will find it at GOD far better and generously rewarded. And implore GOD for forgiveness. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

[YA]: Far from easy for those without Faith.

[RK]:For the disbelievers, not easy.

[YA]: Over it are Nineteen.

[RK]:Over it is nineteen.

[YA]: Nay, We are able to put together in perfect order the very tips of his fingers.

[RK]:Yes indeed; we are able to reconstruct his finger tip.

Bali al-insanu AAala nafsihibaseeratunبل الانسان علي نفسه بصيرة
[YA]: Nay, man will be evidence against himself,

[RK]:The human being will be his own judge.

[YA]: It is for Us to collect it and to promulgate it:

[RK]:It is we who will collect it into Quran.

[YA]: Nay more, it is for Us to explain it (and make it clear):

[RK]:Then it is we who will explain it.

[YA]: Has not He, (the same), the power to give life to the dead?

[RK]:Is He then unable to revive the dead?

Hal ata AAala al-insani heenunmina alddahri lam yakun shay-an mathkooranهل اتي علي الانسان حين من الدهر لم يكن شيئا مذكورا
[YA]: Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned?

[RK]:Is it not a fact that there was a time when the human being was nothing to be mentioned?

WayutAAimona alttaAAamaAAala hubbihi miskeenan wayateeman waaseeranويطعمون الطعام علي حبه مسكينا ويتيما واسيرا
[YA]: And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,-

[RK]:They donate their favorite food to the poor, the orphan, and the captive.

Muttaki-eena feeha AAala al-ara-ikila yarawna feeha shamsan wala zamhareeranمتكئين فيها علي الارائك لايرون فيها شمسا ولازمهريرا
[YA]: Reclining in the (Garden) on raised thrones, they will see there neither the sun's (excessive heat) nor (the moon's) excessive cold.

[RK]:They relax therein on luxurious furnishings. They suffer neither the heat of the sun, nor any cold.

Wadaniyatan AAalayhim thilaluhawathullilat qutoofuha tathleelanودانية عليهم ظلالها وذللت قطوفها تذليلا
[YA]: And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility.

[RK]:The shade covers them therein, and the fruits are brought within reach.

Wayutafu AAalayhim bi-aniyatinmin fiddatin waakwabin kanat qawareeraويطاف عليهم بانية من فضة واكواب كانت قواريرا
[YA]: And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and goblets of crystal,-

[RK]:They are served drinks in silver containers and cups that are translucent.

Wayatoofu AAalayhim wildanunmukhalladoona itha raaytahum hasibtahum lu/lu-anmanthooranويطوف عليهم ولدان مخلدون اذا رايتهم حسبتهم لؤلؤا منثورا
[YA]: And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls.

[RK]:Serving them will be immortal servants. When you see them, they will look like scattered pearls.

AAaliyahum thiyabu sundusinkhudrun wa-istabraqun wahulloo asawira minfiddatin wasaqahum rabbuhum sharaban tahooranعاليهم ثياب سندس خضر واستبرق وحلوا اساور من فضة وسقاهم ربهم شرابا طهورا
[YA]: Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy.

[RK]:On them will be clothes of green velvet, satin, and silver ornaments. Their Lord will provide them with pure drinks.
