Wa-ith qultum ya moosalan nu/mina laka hatta nara Allahajahratan faakhathatkumu alssaAAiqatu waantumtanthuroona

واذ قلتم ياموسي لن نؤمن لك حتي نري الله جهرة فاخذتكم الصاعقة وانتم تنظرون

[YA]: And remember ye said: "O Moses! We shall never believe in thee until we see Allah manifestly," but ye were dazed with thunder and lighting even as ye looked on.

[RK]:Recall that you said, "O Moses, we will not believe unless we see GOD, physically." Consequently, the lightning struck you, as you looked.

Faqulna idriboohu bibaAAdihakathalika yuhyee Allahu almawtawayureekum ayatihi laAAallakum taAAqiloona

فقلنا اضربوه ببعضها كذلك يحيي الله الموتي ويريكم اياته لعلكم تعقلون

[YA]: So We said: "Strike the (body) with a piece of the (heifer)." Thus Allah bringeth the dead to life and showeth you His Signs: Perchance ye may understand.

[RK]:We said, "Strike (the victim) with part (of the heifer)." That is when GOD brought the victim back to life, and showed you His signs, that you may understand.

Qad nara taqalluba wajhika fee alssama-ifalanuwalliyannaka qiblatan tardaha fawalli wajhakashatra almasjidi alharami wahaythu makuntum fawalloo wujoohakum shatrahu wa-inna allatheenaootoo alkitaba layaAAlamoona annahu alhaqqu minrabbihim wama Allahu bighafilin AAammayaAAmaloona

قد نري تقلب وجهك في السماء فلنولينك قبلة ترضاها فول وجهك شطر المسجد الحرام وحيث ماكنتم فولوا وجوهكم شطره وان الذين اوتوا الكتاب ليعلمون انه الحق من ربهم وما الله بغافل عما يعملون

[YA]: We see the turning of thy face (for guidance to the heavens: now Shall We turn thee to a Qibla that shall please thee. Turn then Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque: Wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction. The people of the Book know well that that is the truth from their Lord. Nor is Allah unmindful of what they do.

[RK]:We have seen you turning your face about the sky (searching for the right direction). We now assign a Qiblah that is pleasing to you. Henceforth, you shall turn your face towards the Sacred Masjid. Wherever you may be, all of you shall turn your faces towards it. Those who received the previous scripture know that this is the truth from their Lord. GOD is never unaware of anything they do.

Wamina alnnasi man yattakhithumin dooni Allahi andadan yuhibboonahum kahubbiAllahi waallatheena amanoo ashaddu hubbanlillahi walaw yara allatheena thalamooith yarawna alAAathaba anna alquwwata lillahijameeAAan waanna Allaha shadeedu alAAathabi

ومن الناس من يتخذ من دون الله اندادا يحبونهم كحب الله والذين امنوا اشد حبا لله ولو يري الذين ظلموا اذ يرون العذاب ان القوة لله جميعا وان الله شديد العذاب

[YA]: Yet there are men who take (for worship) others besides Allah, as equal (with Allah): They love them as they should love Allah. But those of Faith are overflowing in their love for Allah. If only the unrighteous could see, behold, they would see the penalty: that to Allah belongs all power, and Allah will strongly enforce the penalty.

[RK]:Yet, some people set up idols to rival GOD, and love them as if they are GOD. Those who believe love GOD the most. If only the transgressors could see themselves when they see the retribution! They will realize then that all power belongs to GOD alone, and that GOD's retribution is awesome.

Alam tara ila allatheenakharajoo min diyarihim wahum oloofun hatharaalmawti faqala lahumu Allahu mootoo thumma ahyahuminna Allaha lathoo fadlin AAala alnnasiwalakinna akthara alnnasi layashkuroona

الم تر الي الذين خرجوا من ديارهم وهم الوف حذر الموت فقال لهم الله موتوا ثم احياهم ان الله لذو فضل علي الناس ولكن اكثر الناس لايشكرون

[YA]: Didst thou not Turn by vision to those who abandoned their homes, though they were thousands (In number), for fear of death? Allah said to them: "Die": Then He restored them to life. For Allah is full of bounty to mankind, but Most of them are ungrateful.

[RK]:Have you noted those who fled their homes - though they were in the thousands - fearing death? GOD said to them, "Die," then revived them. GOD showers His grace upon the people, but most people are unappreciative.

Alam tara ila almala-i min banee isra-eelamin baAAdi moosa ith qaloo linabiyyin lahumuibAAath lana malikan nuqatil fee sabeeli Allahiqala hal AAasaytum in kutiba AAalaykumu alqitalualla tuqatiloo qaloo wama lanaalla nuqatila fee sabeeli Allahi waqadokhrijna min diyarina waabna-inafalamma kutiba AAalayhimu alqitalu tawallaw illaqaleelan minhum waAllahu AAaleemun bialththalimeena

الم تر الي الملا من بني اسرائيل من بعد موسي اذ قالوا لنبي لهم ابعث لنا ملكا نقاتل في سبيل الله قال هل عسيتم ان كتب عليكم القتال الا تقاتلوا قالوا ومالنا الا نقاتل في سبيل الله وقد اخرجنا من ديارنا وابنائنا فلما كتب عليهم القتال تولوا الا قليلا منهم والله عليم بالظالمين

[YA]: Hast thou not Turned thy vision to the Chiefs of the Children of Israel after (the time of) Moses? they said to a prophet (That was) among them: "Appoint for us a king, that we May fight in the cause of Allah." He said: "Is it not possible, if ye were commanded to fight, that that ye will not fight?" They said: "How could we refuse to fight in the cause of Allah, seeing that we were turned out of our homes and our families?" but when they were commanded to fight, they turned back, except a small band among them. But Allah Has full knowledge of those who do wrong.

[RK]:Have you noted the leaders of Israel after Moses? They said to their prophet, "If you appoint a king to lead us, we will fight in the cause of GOD." He said, "Is it your intention that, if fighting is decreed for you, you will not fight?" They said, "Why should we not fight in the cause of GOD, when we have been deprived of our homes, and our children?" Yet, when fighting was decreed for them, they turned away, except a few. GOD is aware of the transgressors.

Alam tara ila allathee hajjaibraheema fee rabbihi an atahu Allahualmulka ith qala ibraheemu rabbiya allatheeyuhyee wayumeetu qala ana ohyeewaomeetu qala ibraheemu fa-inna Allahaya/tee bialshshamsi mina almashriqi fa/ti biha minaalmaghribi fabuhita allathee kafara waAllahula yahdee alqawma alththalimeena

الم تر الي الذي حاج ابراهيم في ربه ان اتاه الله الملك اذ قال ابراهيم ربي الذي يحيي ويميت قال انا احيي واميت قال ابراهيم فان الله ياتي بالشمس من المشرق فات بها من المغرب فبهت الذي كفر والله لايهدي القوم الظالمين

[YA]: Hast thou not Turned thy vision to one who disputed with Abraham About his Lord, because Allah had granted him power? Abraham said: "My Lord is He Who Giveth life and death." He said: "I give life and death". Said Abraham: "But it is Allah that causeth the sun to rise from the east: Do thou then cause him to rise from the West." Thus was he confounded who (in arrogance) rejected faith. Nor doth Allah Give guidance to a people unjust.

[RK]:Have you noted the one who argued with Abraham about his Lord, though GOD had given him kingship? Abraham said, "My Lord grants life and death." He said, "I grant life and death." Abraham said, "GOD brings the sun from the east, can you bring it from the west?" The disbeliever was stumped. GOD does not guide the wicked.

Qad kana lakum ayatun feefi-atayni iltaqata fi-atun tuqatilu fee sabeeli Allahiwaokhra kafiratun yarawnahum mithlayhim ra/yaalAAayni waAllahu yu-ayyidu binasrihi manyashao inna fee thalika laAAibratan li-olee al-absari

قد كان لكم اية في فئتين التقتا فئة تقاتل في سبيل الله واخري كافرة يرونهم مثليهم راي العين والله يؤيد بنصره من يشاء ان في ذلك لعبرة لاولي الابصار

[YA]: "There has already been for you a Sign in the two armies that met (in combat): One was fighting in the cause of Allah, the other resisting Allah; these saw with their own eyes Twice their number. But Allah doth support with His aid whom He pleaseth. In this is a warning for such as have eyes to see."

[RK]:An example has been set for you by the two armies who clashed - one army was fighting in the cause of GOD, while the other was disbelieving. They saw with their own eyes that they were twice as many. GOD supports with His victory whomever He wills. This should provide an assurance for those who possess vision.

Alam tara ila allatheena ootoonaseeban mina alkitabi yudAAawna ila kitabiAllahi liyahkuma baynahum thumma yatawallafareequn minhum wahum muAAridoona

الم تر الي الذين اوتوا نصيبا من الكتاب يدعون الي كتاب الله ليحكم بينهم ثم يتولي فريق منهم وهم معرضون

[YA]: Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who have been given a portion of the Book? They are invited to the Book of Allah, to settle their dispute, but a party of them Turn back and decline (The arbitration).

[RK]:Have you noted those who were given part of the scripture, and how they are invited to uphold this scripture of GOD, and apply it to their own lives, then some of them turn away in aversion?

Walaqad kuntum tamannawna almawta min qablian talqawhu faqad raaytumoohu waantum tanthuroona

ولقد كنتم تمنون الموت من قبل ان تلقوه فقد رايتموه وانتم تنظرون

[YA]: Ye did indeed wish for death before ye met him: Now ye have seen him with your own eyes, (And ye flinch!)

[RK]:You used to long for death before you had to face it. Now you have faced it, right before your eyes.

Alam tara ila allatheenayuzakkoona anfusahum bali Allahu yuzakkee man yashaowala yuthlamoona fateelan

الم تر الي الذين يزكون انفسهم بل الله يزكي من يشاء ولايظلمون فتيلا

[YA]: Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who claim sanctity for themselves? Nay-but Allah Doth sanctify whom He pleaseth. But never will they fail to receive justice in the least little thing.

[RK]:Have you noted those who exalt themselves? Instead, GOD is the One who exalts whomever He wills, without the least injustice.

Alam tara ila allatheena ootoonaseeban mina alkitabi yu/minoona bialjibtiwaalttaghooti wayaqooloona lillatheenakafaroo haola-i ahda mina allatheena amanoosabeelan

الم تر الي الذين اوتوا نصيبا من الكتاب يؤمنون بالجبت والطاغوت ويقولون للذين كفروا هؤلاء اهدي من الذين امنوا سبيلا

[YA]: Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who were given a portion of the Book? they believe in sorcery and Evil, and say to the Unbelievers that they are better guided in the (right) way Than the believers!

[RK]:Have you noted those who received a portion of the scripture, and how they believe in idolatry and false doctrine, then say, "The disbelievers are better guided than the believers?!"

Alam tara ila allatheenayazAAumoona annahum amanoo bima onzila ilayka wamaonzila min qablika yureedoona an yatahakamoo ila alttaghootiwaqad omiroo an yakfuroo bihi wayureedu alshshaytanuan yudillahum dalalan baAAeedan

الم تر الي الذين يزعمون انهم امنوا بما انزل اليك وماانزل من قبلك يريدون ان يتحاكموا الي الطاغوت وقد امروا ان يكفروا به ويريد الشيطان ان يضلهم ضلالا بعيدا

[YA]: Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who declare that they believe in the revelations that have come to thee and to those before thee? Their (real) wish is to resort together for judgment (in their disputes) to the Evil One, though they were ordered to reject him. But Satan's wish is to lead them astray far away (from the right).

[RK]:Have you noted those who claim that they believe in what was revealed to you, and in what was revealed before you, then uphold the unjust laws of their idols? They were commanded to reject such laws. Indeed, it is the devil's wish to lead them far astray.

Wa-itha qeela lahum taAAalawila ma anzala Allahu wa-ila alrrasooliraayta almunafiqeena yasuddoona AAanka sudoodan

واذا قيل لهم تعالوا الي ماانزل الله والي الرسول رايت المنافقين يصدون عنك صدودا

[YA]: When it is said to them: "Come to what Allah hath revealed, and to the Messenger": Thou seest the Hypocrites avert their faces from thee in disgust.

[RK]:When they are told, "Come to what GOD has revealed, and to the messenger," you see the hypocrites shunning you completely.

Alam tara ila allatheena qeelalahum kuffoo aydiyakum waaqeemoo alssalatawaatoo alzzakata falamma kutibaAAalayhimu alqitalu itha fareequn minhum yakhshawnaalnnasa kakhashyati Allahi aw ashaddakhashyatan waqaloo rabbana lima katabta AAalaynaalqitala lawla akhkhartana ila ajalinqareebin qul mataAAu alddunya qaleelun waal-akhiratukhayrun limani ittaqa wala tuthlamoonafateelan

الم تر الي الذين قيل لهم كفوا ايديكم واقيموا الصلاة واتوا الزكاة فلما كتب عليهم القتال اذا فريق منهم يخشون الناس كخشية الله او اشد خشية وقالوا ربنا لم كتبت علينا القتال لولا اخرتنا الي اجل قريب قل متاع الدنيا قليل والاخرة خير لمن اتقي ولاتظلمون فتيلا

[YA]: Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who were told to hold back their hands (from fight) but establish regular prayers and spend in regular charity? When (at length) the order for fighting was issued to them, behold! a section of them feared men as - or even more than - they should have feared Allah: They said: "Our Lord! Why hast Thou ordered us to fight? Wouldst Thou not Grant us respite to our (natural) term, near (enough)?" Say: "Short is the enjoyment of this world: the Hereafter is the best for those who do right: Never will ye be dealt with unjustly in the very least!

[RK]:Have you noted those who were told, "You do not have to fight; all you need to do is observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat)," then, when fighting was decreed for them, they feared the people as much as they feared GOD, or even more? They said, "Our Lord, why did You force this fighting on us? If only You respite us for awhile!" Say, "The materials of this world are nil, while the Hereafter is far better for the righteous, and you never suffer the slightest injustice."

Fatara allatheena feequloobihim maradun yusariAAoona feehim yaqooloonanakhsha an tuseebana da-iratun faAAasaAllahu an ya/tiya bialfathi aw amrin minAAindihi fayusbihoo AAala ma asarroofee anfusihim nadimeena

فتري الذين في قلوبهم مرض يسارعون فيهم يقولون نخشي ان تصيبنا دائرة فعسي الله ان ياتي بالفتح او امر من عنده فيصبحوا علي مااسروا في انفسهم نادمين

[YA]: Those in whose hearts is a disease - thou seest how eagerly they run about amongst them, saying: "We do fear lest a change of fortune bring us disaster." Ah! perhaps Allah will give (thee) victory, or a decision according to His will. Then will they repent of the thoughts which they secretly harboured in their hearts.

[RK]:You will see those who harbor doubt in their hearts hasten to join them, saying, "We fear lest we may be defeated." May GOD bring victory, or a command from Him, that causes them to regret their secret thoughts.

Watara katheeran minhum yusariAAoonafee al-ithmi waalAAudwani waaklihimu alssuhtalabi/sa ma kanoo yaAAmaloona

وتري كثيرا منهم يسارعون في الاثم والعدوان واكلهم السحت لبئس ما كانوا يعملون

[YA]: Many of them dost thou see, racing each other in sin and rancour, and their eating of things forbidden. Evil indeed are the things that they do.

[RK]:You see many of them readily committing evil and transgression, and eating from illicit earnings. Miserable indeed is what they do.

Tara katheeran minhum yatawallawnaallatheena kafaroo labi/sa ma qaddamat lahumanfusuhum an sakhita Allahu AAalayhim wafee alAAathabihum khalidoona

تري كثيرا منهم يتولون الذين كفروا لبئس ماقدمت لهم انفسهم ان سخط الله عليهم وفي العذاب هم خالدون

[YA]: Thou seest many of them turning in friendship to the Unbelievers. Evil indeed are (the works) which their souls have sent forward before them (with the result), that Allah's wrath is on them, and in torment will they abide.

[RK]:You would see many of them allying themselves with those who disbelieve. Miserable indeed is what their hands have sent forth on behalf of their souls. GOD is angry with them and, consequently, they will abide forever in retribution.

Wa-itha samiAAoo ma onzila ilaalrrasooli tara aAAyunahum tafeedu mina alddamAAimimma AAarafoo mina alhaqqi yaqooloona rabbanaamanna faoktubna maAAa alshshahideena

واذا سمعوا ماانزل الي الرسول تري اعينهم تفيض من الدمع مما عرفوا من الحق يقولون ربنا امنا فاكتبنا مع الشاهدين

[YA]: And when they listen to the revelation received by the Messenger, thou wilt see their eyes overflowing with tears, for they recognise the truth: they pray: "Our Lord! we believe; write us down among the witnesses.

[RK]:When they hear what was revealed to the messenger, you see their eyes flooding with tears as they recognize the truth therein, and they say, "Our Lord, we have believed, so count us among the witnesses.

Alam yaraw kam ahlakna min qablihimmin qarnin makkannahum fee al-ardi ma lamnumakkin lakum waarsalna alssamaa AAalayhimmidraran wajaAAalna al-anhara tajree min tahtihimfaahlaknahum bithunoobihim waansha/na minbaAAdihim qarnan akhareena

الم يروا كم اهلكنا من قبلهم من قرن مكناهم في الارض مالم نمكن لكم وارسلنا السماء عليهم مدرارا وجعلنا الانهار تجري من تحتهم فاهلكناهم بذنوبهم وانشانا من بعدهم قرنا اخرين

[YA]: See they not how many of those before them We did destroy?- generations We had established on the earth, in strength such as We have not given to you - for whom We poured out rain from the skies in abundance, and gave (fertile) streams flowing beneath their (feet): yet for their sins We destroyed them, and raised in their wake fresh generations (to succeed them).

[RK]:Have they not seen how many generations before them we have annihilated? We established them on earth more than we did for you, and we showered them with blessings, generously, and we provided them with flowing streams. We then annihilated them because of their sins, and we substituted another generation in their place.

Waminhum man yastamiAAu ilayka wajaAAalnaAAala quloobihim akinnatan an yafqahoohu wafee athanihimwaqran wa-in yaraw kulla ayatin la yu/minoo bihahatta itha jaooka yujadiloonakayaqoolu allatheena kafaroo in hatha illa asateerual-awwaleena

ومنهم من يستمع اليك وجعلنا علي قلوبهم اكنة ان يفقهوه وفي اذانهم وقرا وان يروا كل اية لايؤمنوا بها حتي اذا جاؤوك يجادلونك يقول الذين كفروا ان هذا الا اساطير الاولين

[YA]: Of them there are some who (pretend to) listen to thee; but We have thrown veils on their hearts, So they understand it not, and deafness in their ears; if they saw every one of the signs, not they will believe in them; in so much that when they come to thee, they (but) dispute with thee; the Unbelievers say: "These are nothing but tales of the ancients."

[RK]:Some of them listen to you, but we place veils on their hearts to prevent them from understanding, and deafness in their ears. Thus, no matter what kind of proof they see, they cannot believe. Thus, when they come to argue with you, the disbelievers say, "These are tales from the past."

Walaw tara ith wuqifoo AAalaalnnari faqaloo ya laytananuraddu wala nukaththiba bi-ayatirabbina wanakoona mina almu/mineena

ولو تري اذ وقفوا علي النار فقالوا ياليتنا نرد ولانكذب بايات ربنا ونكون من المؤمنين

[YA]: If thou couldst but see when they are confronted with the Fire! They will say: "Would that we were but sent back! Then would we not reject the signs of our Lord, but would be amongst those who believe!"

[RK]:If only you could see them when they face the hellfire! They would say then, "Woe to us. Oh, we wish we could go back, and never reject our Lord's revelations, and join the believers."

Walaw tara ith wuqifoo AAalarabbihim qala alaysa hatha bialhaqqiqaloo bala warabbina qala fathooqooalAAathaba bima kuntum takfuroona

ولو تري اذ وقفوا علي ربهم قال اليس هذا بالحق قالوا بلي وربنا قال فذوقوا العذاب بما كنتم تكفرون

[YA]: If thou couldst but see when they are confronted with their Lord! He will say: "Is not this the truth?" They will say: "Yea, by our Lord!" He will say: "Taste ye then the penalty, because ye rejected Faith."

[RK]:If you could only see them when they stand before their Lord! He would say, "Is this not the truth?" They would say, "Yes, by our Lord." He would say, "You have incurred the retribution by your disbelief."

Qul araaytakum in atakum AAathabuAllahi aw atatkumu alssaAAatu aghayra AllahitadAAoona in kuntum sadiqeena

قل ارايتكم ان اتاكم عذاب الله او اتتكم الساعة اغير الله تدعون ان كنتم صادقين

[YA]: Say: "Think ye to yourselves, if there come upon you the wrath of Allah, or the Hour (that ye dread), would ye then call upon other than Allah?- (reply) if ye are truthful!

[RK]:Say, "What if GOD's retribution came to you, or the Hour came to you: would you implore other than GOD, if you are truthful?"

Qul araaytum in akhatha AllahusamAAakum waabsarakum wakhatama AAala quloobikumman ilahun ghayru Allahi ya/teekum bihi onthurkayfa nusarrifu al-ayati thumma hum yasdifoona

قل ارايتم ان اخذ الله سمعكم وابصاركم وختم علي قلوبكم من اله غير الله ياتيكم به انظر كيف نصرف الايات ثم هم يصدفون

[YA]: Say: "Think ye, if Allah took away your hearing and your sight, and sealed up your hearts, who - a god other than Allah - could restore them to you?" See how We explain the signs by various (symbols); yet they turn aside.

[RK]:Say, "What if GOD took away your hearing and your eyesight, and sealed your minds; which god, other than GOD, can restore these for you?" Note how we explain the revelations, and note how they still deviate!

Qul araaytakum in atakum AAathabuAllahi baghtatan aw jahratan hal yuhlaku illaalqawmu alththalimoona

قل ارايتكم ان اتاكم عذاب الله بغتة او جهرة هل يهلك الا القوم الظالمون

[YA]: Say: "Think ye, if the punishment of Allah comes to you, whether suddenly or openly, will any be destroyed except those who do wrong?

[RK]:Say, "What if GOD's retribution came to you suddenly, or after an announcement, is it not the wicked who incur annihilation?"

Wa-itha raayta allatheenayakhoodoona fee ayatina faaAAridAAanhum hatta yakhoodoo fee hadeethinghayrihi wa-imma yunsiyannaka alshshaytanufala taqAAud baAAda alththikra maAAaalqawmi alththalimeena

واذا رايت الذين يخوضون في اياتنا فاعرض عنهم حتي يخوضوا في حديث غيره واما ينسينك الشيطان فلاتقعد بعد الذكري مع القوم الظالمين

[YA]: When thou seest men engaged in vain discourse about Our signs, turn away from them unless they turn to a different theme. If Satan ever makes thee forget, then after recollection, sit not thou in the company of those who do wrong.

[RK]:If you see those who mock our revelations, you shall avoid them until they delve into another subject. If the devil causes you to forget, then, as soon as you remember, do not sit with such evil people.

Wakathalika nuree ibraheemamalakoota alssamawati waal-ardiwaliyakoona mina almooqineena

وكذلك نري ابراهيم ملكوت السماوات والارض وليكون من الموقنين

[YA]: So also did We show Abraham the power and the laws of the heavens and the earth, that he might (with understanding) have certitude.

[RK]:We showed Abraham the marvels of the heavens and the earth, and blessed him with certainty:

Falamma janna AAalayhi allaylu raakawkaban qala hatha rabbee falamma afala qalala ohibbu al-afileena

فلما جن عليه الليل راي كوكبا قال هذا ربي فلما افل قال لااحب الافلين

[YA]: When the night covered him over, He saw a star: He said: "This is my Lord." But when it set, He said: "I love not those that set."

[RK]:When the night fell, he saw a shining planet. "Maybe this is my Lord," he said. When it disappeared, he said, "I do not like (gods) that disappear."

فلما راي القمر بازغا قال هذا ربي فلما افل قال لئن لم يهدني ربي لاكونن من القوم الضالين

[YA]: When he saw the moon rising in splendour, he said: "This is my Lord." But when the moon set, He said: "unless my Lord guide me, I shall surely be among those who go astray."

[RK]:When he saw the moon rising, he said, "Maybe this is my Lord!" When it disappeared, he said, "Unless my Lord guides me, I will be with the strayers."

Falamma raa alshshamsabazighatan qala hatha rabbee hathaakbaru falamma afalat qala ya qawmi inneebaree-on mimma tushrikoona

فلما راي الشمس بازغة قال هذا ربي هذا اكبر فلما افلت قال ياقوم اني بري مما تشركون

[YA]: When he saw the sun rising in splendour, he said: "This is my Lord; this is the greatest (of all)." But when the sun set, he said: "O my people! I am indeed free from your (guilt) of giving partners to Allah.

[RK]:When he saw the sun rising, he said, "This must be my Lord. This is the biggest." But when it set, he said, "O my people, I denounce your idolatry.

Waman athlamu mimmani iftaraAAala Allahi kathiban aw qala oohiyailayya walam yooha ilayhi shay-on waman qalasaonzilu mithla ma anzala Allahu walaw taraithi alththalimoona fee ghamaratialmawti waalmala-ikatu basitooaydeehim akhrijoo anfusakumu alyawma tujzawna AAathabaalhooni bima kuntum taqooloona AAala Allahighayra alhaqqi wakuntum AAan ayatihitastakbiroona

ومن اظلم ممن افتري علي الله كذبا او قال اوحي الي ولم يوح اليه شئ ومن قال سانزل مثل ماانزل الله ولو تري اذ الظالمون في غمرات الموت والملائكة باسطوا ايديهم اخرجوا انفسكم اليوم تجزون عذاب الهون بما كنتم تقولون علي الله غير الحق وكنتم عن اياته تستكبرون

[YA]: Who can be more wicked than one who inventeth a lie against Allah, or saith, "I have received inspiration," when he hath received none, or (again) who saith, "I can reveal the like of what Allah hath revealed"? If thou couldst but see how the wicked (do fare) in the flood of confusion at death! - the angels stretch forth their hands, (saying),"Yield up your souls: this day shall ye receive your reward,- a penalty of shame, for that ye used to tell lies against Allah, and scornfully to reject of His signs!"

[RK]:Who is more evil than one who fabricates lies and attributes them to GOD, or says, "I have received divine inspiration," when no such inspiration was given to him, or says, "I can write the same as GOD's revelations?" If only you could see the transgressors at the time of death! The angels extend their hands to them, saying, "Let go of your souls. Today, you have incurred a shameful retribution for saying about GOD other than the truth, and for being too arrogant to accept His revelations.

Ya banee adama layaftinannakumu alshshaytanu kama akhrajaabawaykum mina aljannati yanziAAu AAanhuma libasahumaliyuriyahuma saw-atihima innahu yarakumhuwa waqabeeluhu min haythu la tarawnahum innajaAAalna alshshayateena awliyaa lillatheenala yu/minoona

يابني ادم لايفتننكم الشيطان كما اخرج ابويكم من الجنة ينزع عنهما لباسهما ليريهما سواتهما انه يراكم هو وقبيله من حيث لاترونهم انا جعلنا الشياطين اولياء للذين لايؤمنون

[YA]: O ye Children of Adam! Let not Satan seduce you, in the same manner as He got your parents out of the Garden, stripping them of their raiment, to expose their shame: for he and his tribe watch you from a position where ye cannot see them: We made the evil ones friends (only) to those without faith.

[RK]:O children of Adam, do not let the devil dupe you as he did when he caused the eviction of your parents from Paradise, and the removal of their garments to expose their bodies. He and his tribe see you, while you do not see them. We appoint the devils as companions of those who do not believe.

Saasrifu AAan ayatiyaallatheena yatakabbaroona fee al-ardi bighayri alhaqqiwa-in yaraw kulla ayatin la yu/minoo bihawa-in yaraw sabeela alrrushdi la yattakhithoohusabeelan wa-in yaraw sabeela alghayyi yattakhithoohusabeelan thalika bi-annahum kaththaboo bi-ayatinawakanoo AAanha ghafileena

ساصرف عن اياتي الذين يتكبرون في الارض بغير الحق وان يروا كل اية لايؤمنوا بها وان يروا سبيل الرشد لايتخذوه سبيلا وان يروا سببيل الغي يتخذوه سبيلا ذلك بانهم كذبوا باياتنا وكانوا عنها غافلين

[YA]: Those who behave arrogantly on the earth in defiance of right - them will I turn away from My signs: Even if they see all the signs, they will not believe in them; and if they see the way of right conduct, they will not adopt it as the way; but if they see the way of error, that is the way they will adopt. For they have rejected our signs, and failed to take warning from them.

[RK]:I will divert from My revelations those who are arrogant on earth, without justification. Consequently, when they see every kind of proof they will not believe. And when they see the path of guidance they will not adopt it as their path, but when they see the path of straying they will adopt it as their path. This is the consequence of their rejecting our proofs, and being totally heedless thereof.

Waittakhatha qawmu moosamin baAAdihi min huliyyihim AAijlan jasadan lahu khuwarunalam yaraw annahu la yukallimuhum wala yahdeehimsabeelan ittakhathoohu wakanoo thalimeena

واتخذ قوم موسي من بعده من حليهم عجلا جسدا له خوار الم يروا انه لايكلمهم ولايهديهم سبيلا اتخذوه وكانوا ظالمين

[YA]: The people of Moses made, in his absence, out of their ornaments, the image of calf, (for worship): it seemed to low: did they not see that it could neither speak to them, nor show them the way? They took it for worship and they did wrong.

[RK]:During his absence, Moses' people made from their jewelry the statue of a calf, complete with the sound of a calf. Did they not see that it could not speak to them, or guide them in any path? They worshipped it, and thus turned wicked.

وان تدعوهم الي الهدي لايسمعوا وتراهم ينظرون اليك وهم لايبصرون

[YA]: If thou callest them to guidance, they hear not. Thou wilt see them looking at thee, but they see not.

[RK]:When you invite them to the guidance, they do not hear. And you see them looking at you, but they do not see.

واذ زين لهم الشيطان اعمالهم وقال لاغالب لكم اليوم من الناس واني جار لكم فلما تراءت الفئتان نكص علي عقبيه وقال اني بري منكم اني اري مالاترون اني اخاف الله والله شديد العقاب

[YA]: Remember Satan made their (sinful) acts seem alluring to them, and said: "No one among men can overcome you this day, while I am near to you": But when the two forces came in sight of each other, he turned on his heels, and said: "Lo! I am clear of you; lo! I see what ye see not; Lo! I fear Allah: for Allah is strict in punishment."

[RK]:The devil had adorned their works in their eyes, and said, "You cannot be defeated by any people today," and "I will be fighting along with you." But as soon as the two armies faced each other, he turned back on his heels and fled, saying, "I disown you. I see what you do not see. I am afraid of GOD. GOD's retribution is awesome."

ولو تري اذ يتوفي الذين كفروا الملائكة يضربون وجوههم وادبارهم وذوقوا عذاب الحريق

[YA]: If thou couldst see, when the angels take the souls of the Unbelievers (at death), (How) they smite their faces and their backs, (saying): "Taste the penalty of the blazing Fire-

[RK]:If you could only see those who disbelieved when the angels put them to death! They will beat them on their faces and their rear ends: "Taste the retribution of Hell.

Awa la yarawna annahum yuftanoonafee kulli AAamin marratan aw marratayni thumma layatooboona wala hum yaththakkaroona

او لايرون انهم يفتنون في كل عام مرة او مرتين ثم لايتوبون ولاهم يذكرون

[YA]: See they not that they are tried every year once or twice? Yet they turn not in repentance, and they take no heed.

[RK]:Do they not see that they suffer from exacting trials every year once or twice? Yet, they consistently fail to repent, and fail to take heed?

قل ارايتم ان اتاكم عذابه بياتا او نهارا ماذا يستعجل منه المجرمون

[YA]: Say: "Do ye see,- if His punishment should come to you by night or by day,- what portion of it would the sinners wish to hasten?

[RK]:Say, "Whether His retribution comes to you by night or by day, why are the transgressors in such a hurry?

قل ارايتم ماانزل الله لكم من رزق فجعلتم منه حراما وحلالا قل الله اذن لكم ام علي الله تفترون

[YA]: Say: "See ye what things Allah hath sent down to you for sustenance? Yet ye hold forbidden some things thereof and (some things) lawful." Say: "Hath Allah indeed permitted you, or do ye invent (things) to attribute to Allah?"

[RK]:Say, "Did you note how GOD sends down to you all kinds of provisions, then you render some of them unlawful, and some lawful?" Say, "Did GOD give you permission to do this? Or, do you fabricate lies and attribute them to GOD?"

Waqala moosa rabbanainnaka atayta firAAawna wamalaahu zeenatan waamwalanfee alhayati alddunya rabbanaliyudilloo AAan sabeelika rabbana itmis AAalaamwalihim waoshdud AAala quloobihim falayu/minoo hatta yarawoo alAAathaba al-aleema

وقال موسي ربنا انك اتيت فرعون وملاه زينة واموالا في الحياة الدنيا ربنا ليضلوا عن سبيلك ربنا اطمس علي اموالهم واشدد علي قلوبهم فلا يؤمنوا حتي يروا العذاب الاليم

[YA]: Moses prayed: "Our Lord! Thou hast indeed bestowed on Pharaoh and his chiefs splendour and wealth in the life of the present, and so, Our Lord, they mislead (men) from Thy Path. Deface our Lord, the features of their wealth, and send hardness to their hearts, so they will not believe until they see the grievous penalty."

[RK]:Moses said, "Our Lord, you have given Pharaoh and his elders luxuries and wealth in this world. Our Lord, they only use them to repulse others from Your path. Our Lord, wipe out their wealth, and harden their hearts to prevent them from believing, until they see the painful retribution."

Walaw jaat-hum kullu ayatin hattayarawoo alAAathaba al-aleema

ولو جاءتهم كل اية حتي يروا العذاب الاليم

[YA]: Even if every Sign was brought unto them,- until they see (for themselves) the penalty grievous.

[RK]:No matter what kind of proof you show them, (they cannot believe), until they see the painful retribution.

قال ياقوم ارايتم ان كنت علي بينة من ربي واتاني رحمة من عنده فعميت عليكم انلزنكموها وانتم لها كارهون

[YA]: He said: "O my people! See ye if (it be that) I have a Clear Sign from my Lord, and that He hath sent Mercy unto me from His own presence, but that the Mercy hath been obscured from your sight? shall we compel you to accept it when ye are averse to it?

[RK]:He said, "O my people, what if I have a solid proof from my Lord? What if He has blessed me out of His mercy, though you cannot see it? Are we going to force you to believe therein?

Qala ya qawmi araaytum inkuntu AAala bayyinatin min rabbee waataneeminhu rahmatan faman yansurunee mina Allahiin AAasaytuhu fama tazeedoonanee ghayra takhseerin

قال ياقوم ارايتم ان كنت علي بينة من ربي واتاني منه رحمة فمن ينصرني من الله ان عصيته فما تزيدونني غير تخسير

[YA]: He said: "O my people! do ye see? if I have a Clear (Sign) from my Lord and He hath sent Mercy unto me from Himself,- who then can help me against Allah if I were to disobey Him? What then would ye add to my (portion) but perdition?

[RK]:He said, "O my people, what if I have solid proof from my Lord, and mercy from Him? Who would support me against GOD, if I disobeyed Him? You can only augment my loss.
