[YA]: But when the Truth came to them, they said: "This is sorcery, and we do reject it."

[RK]:When the truth came to them, they said, "This is magic, and we are disbelievers therein."

Waqaloo lawla nuzzila hathaalqur-anu AAala rajulin mina alqaryatayni AAatheemunوقالوا لولا نزل هذا القران علي رجل من القريتين عظيم
[YA]: Also, they say: "Why is not this Qur'an sent down to some leading man in either of the two (chief) cities?"

[RK]:They said, "If only this Quran was sent down through another man from the two communities (Mecca or Yathrib) who is prominent!"

Wazukhrufan wa-in kullu thalika lammamataAAu alhayati alddunya waal-akhiratuAAinda rabbika lilmuttaqeenaوزخرفا وان كل ذلك لما متاع الحياة الدنيا والاخرة عند ربك للمتقين
[YA]: And also adornments of gold. But all this were nothing but conveniences of the present life: The Hereafter, in the sight of thy Lord is for the Righteous.

[RK]:Also many ornaments. All these are the temporary materials of this lowly life. The Hereafter - at your Lord - is far better for the righteous.

Am ana khayrun min hatha allatheehuwa maheenun wala yakadu yubeenuام انا خير من هذا الذي هو مهين ولايكاد يبين
[YA]: "Am I not better than this (Moses), who is a contemptible wretch and can scarcely express himself clearly?

[RK]:"Which one is better; me or that one who is lowly and can hardly speak?

Wa-innahu laAAilmun lilssaAAatifala tamtarunna biha waittabiAAooni hathasiratun mustaqeemunوانه لعلم للساعة فلا تمترن بها واتبعون هذا صراط مستقيم
[YA]: And (Jesus) shall be a Sign (for the coming of) the Hour (of Judgment): therefore have no doubt about the (Hour), but follow ye Me: this is a Straight Way.

[RK]:He is to serve as a marker for knowing the end of the world, so you can no longer harbor any doubt about it. You shall follow Me; this is the right path.

Inna Allaha huwa rabbee warabbukum faoAAbudoohuhatha siratun mustaqeemunان الله هو ربي وربكم فاعبدوه هذا صراط مستقيم
[YA]: "For Allah, He is my Lord and your Lord: so worship ye Him: this is a Straight Way."

[RK]:"GOD is my Lord and your Lord, you shall worship Him alone. This is the right path."

Faikhtalafa al-ahzabumin baynihim fawaylun lillatheena thalamoomin AAathabi yawmin aleeminفاختلف الاحزاب من بينهم فويل للذين ظلموا من عذاب يوم اليم
[YA]: But sects from among themselves fell into disagreement: then woe to the wrong-doers, from the Penalty of a Grievous Day!

[RK]:The opponents disputed among themselves. Woe to those who transgress from the retribution of a painful day.

Allatheena amanoo bi-ayatinawakanoo muslimeenaالذين امنوا باياتنا وكانوا مسلمين
[YA]: (Being) those who have believed in Our Signs and bowed (their wills to Ours) in Islam.

[RK]:They are the ones who believed in our revelations, and were submitters.

Watilka aljannatu allatee oorithtumoohabima kuntum taAAmaloonaوتلك الجنة التي اورثتموها بما كنتم تعملون
[YA]: Such will be the Garden of which ye are made heirs for your (good) deeds (in life).

[RK]:Such is the Paradise that you inherit, in return for your works.

Wala yamliku allatheenayadAAoona min doonihi alshshafaAAata illaman shahida bialhaqqi wahum yaAAlamoonaولايملك الذين يدعون من دونه الشفاعة الا من شهد بالحق وهم يعلمون
[YA]: And those whom they invoke besides Allah have no power of intercession;- only he who bears witness to the Truth, and they know (him).

[RK]:None of those whom they idolize beside Him possess any power to intercede, unless their intercession coincides with the truth, and they fully know.

Waqeelihi ya rabbi inna haola-iqawmun la yu/minoonaوقيله يارب ان هؤلاء قوم لايؤمنون
[YA]: (Allah has knowledge) of the (Prophet's) cry, "O my Lord! Truly these are people who will not believe!"

[RK]:It will be proclaimed: "O my Lord, these people do not believe."

Yaghsha alnnasa hathaAAathabun aleemunيغشي الناس هذا عذاب اليم
[YA]: Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous.

[RK]:It will envelope the people; this is a painful retribution.

FadaAAa rabbahu anna haola-iqawmun mujrimoonaفدعا ربه ان هؤلاء قوم مجرمون
[YA]: (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin."

[RK]:Subsequently, he implored his Lord: "These are wicked people."

Kathalika waawrathnahaqawman akhareenaكذلك واورثناها قوما اخرين
[YA]: Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)!

[RK]:All these we caused to be inherited by other people.

Inna haola-i layaqooloonaان هؤلاء ليقولون
[YA]: As to these (Quraish), they say forsooth:

[RK]:The present generations say,

Ahum khayrun am qawmu tubbaAAin waallatheenamin qablihim ahlaknahum innahum kanoo mujrimeenaاهم خير ام قوم تبع والذين من قبلهم اهلكناهم انهم كانوا مجرمين
[YA]: What! Are they better than the people of Tubba and those who were before them? We destroyed them because they were guilty of sin.

[RK]:Are they better than the people of Tubba` and others before them? We annihilated them for their crimes.

Inna hatha ma kuntum bihitamtaroonaان هذا ماكنتم به تمترون
[YA]: "Truly this is what ye used to doubt!"

[RK]:This is what you used to doubt.

Kathalika wazawwajnahum bihoorinAAeeninكذلك وزوجناهم بحور عين
[YA]: So; and We shall join them to fair women with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes.

[RK]:We grant them wonderful spouses.

Fadlan min rabbika thalikahuwa alfawzu alAAatheemuفضلا من ربك ذلك هو الفوز العظيم
[YA]: As a Bounty from thy Lord! that will be the supreme achievement!

[RK]:Such is the blessing from your Lord. Such is the great triumph.

Tilka ayatu Allahinatlooha AAalayka bialhaqqi fabi-ayyi hadeethinbaAAda Allahi waayatihi yu/minoonaتلك ايات الله نتلوها عليك بالحق فباي حديث بعد الله واياته يؤمنون
[YA]: Such are the Signs of Allah, which We rehearse to thee in Truth; then in what exposition will they believe after (rejecting) Allah and His Signs?

[RK]:These are GOD's revelations that we recite to you truthfully. In which Hadith other than GOD and His revelations do they believe?

Wa-itha AAalima min ayatinashay-an ittakhathaha huzuwan ola-ika lahumAAathabun muheenunواذا علم من اياتنا شيئا اتخذها هزوا اولئك لهم عذاب مهين
[YA]: And when he learns something of Our Signs, he takes them in jest: for such there will be a humiliating Penalty.

[RK]:When he learns anything about our revelations, he mocks them. These have incurred a shameful retribution.

Hatha hudan waallatheenakafaroo bi-ayati rabbihim lahum AAathabunmin rijzin aleeminهذا هدي والذين كفروا بايات ربهم لهم عذاب من رجز اليم
[YA]: This is (true) Guidance and for those who reject the Signs of their Lord, is a grievous Penalty of abomination.

[RK]:This is a beacon, and those who disbelieve in these revelations of their Lord have incurred condemnation and a painful retribution.

[YA]: This is (true) Guidance and for those who reject the Signs of their Lord, is a grievous Penalty of abomination.

[RK]:This is a beacon, and those who disbelieve in these revelations of their Lord have incurred condemnation and a painful retribution.

Wasakhkhara lakum ma fee alssamawatiwama fee al-ardi jameeAAan minhu inna fee thalikalaayatin liqawmin yatafakkaroonaوسخر لكم مافي السماوات ومافي الارض جميعا منه ان في ذلك لايات لقوم يتفكرون
[YA]: And He has subjected to you, as from Him, all that is in the heavens and on earth: Behold, in that are Signs indeed for those who reflect.

[RK]:He committed in your service everything in the heavens and the earth; all from Him. These are proofs for people who reflect.

Qul lillatheena amanooyaghfiroo lillatheena la yarjoona ayyama Allahiliyajziya qawman bima kanoo yaksiboonaقل للذين امنوا يغفروا للذين لايرجون ايام الله ليجزي قوما بما كانوا يكسبون
[YA]: Tell those who believe, to forgive those who do not look forward to the Days of Allah: It is for Him to recompense (for good or ill) each People according to what they have earned.

[RK]:Tell those who believed to forgive those who do not expect the days of GOD. He will fully pay everyone for whatever they have earned.

Qul lillatheena amanooyaghfiroo lillatheena la yarjoona ayyama Allahiliyajziya qawman bima kanoo yaksiboonaقل للذين امنوا يغفروا للذين لايرجون ايام الله ليجزي قوما بما كانوا يكسبون
[YA]: Tell those who believe, to forgive those who do not look forward to the Days of Allah: It is for Him to recompense (for good or ill) each People according to what they have earned.

[RK]:Tell those who believed to forgive those who do not expect the days of GOD. He will fully pay everyone for whatever they have earned.

Thumma jaAAalnaka AAalashareeAAatin mina al-amri faittabiAAha walatattabiAA ahwaa allatheena la yaAAlamoonaثم جعلناك علي شريعة من الامر فاتبعها ولاتتبع اهواء الذين لايعلمون
[YA]: Then We put thee on the (right) Way of Religion: so follow thou that (Way), and follow not the desires of those who know not.

[RK]:We then appointed you to establish the correct laws; you shall follow this, and do not follow the wishes of those who do not know.

Hatha basa-iru lilnnasiwahudan warahmatun liqawmin yooqinoonaهذا بصائر للناس وهدي ورحمة لقوم يوقنون
[YA]: These are clear evidences to men and a Guidance and Mercy to those of assured Faith.

[RK]:This provides enlightenments for the people, and guidance, and mercy for those who are certain.

Am hasiba allatheena ijtarahooalssayyi-ati an najAAalahum kaallatheenaamanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati sawaanmahyahum wamamatuhum saa ma yahkumoonaام حسب الذين اجترحوا السيئات ان نجعلهم كالذين امنوا وعملوا الصالحات سواء محياهم ومماتهم ساء مايحكمون
[YA]: What! Do those who seek after evil ways think that We shall hold them equal with those who believe and do righteous deeds,- that equal will be their life and their death? Ill is the judgment that they make.

[RK]:Do those who work evil expect that we will treat them in the same manner as those who believe and lead a righteous life? Can their life and their death be the same? Wrong indeed is their judgment.

Waqaloo ma hiya illa hayatunaalddunya namootu wanahya wamayuhlikuna illa alddahru wama lahum bithalikamin AAilmin in hum illa yathunnoonaوقالوا ماهي الا حياتنا الدنيا نموت ونحيا ومايهلكنا الا الدهر ومالهم بذلك من علم ان هم الا يظنون
[YA]: And they say: "What is there but our life in this world? We shall die and we live, and nothing but time can destroy us." But of that they have no knowledge: they merely conjecture:

[RK]:They said, "We only live this life; we live and die and only time causes our death!" They have no sure knowledge about this; they only conjecture.

Hatha kitabuna yantiquAAalaykum bialhaqqi inna kunnanastansikhu ma kuntum taAAmaloonaهذا كتابنا ينطق عليكم بالحق انا كنا نستنسخ ماكنتم تعملون
[YA]: "This Our Record speaks about you with truth: For We were wont to put on Record all that ye did."

[RK]:This is our record; it utters the truth about you. We have been recording everything you did.

Faamma allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo alssalihati fayudkhiluhumrabbuhum fee rahmatihi thalika huwa alfawzualmubeenuفاما الذين امنوا وعملوا الصالحات فيدخلهم ربهم في رحمته ذلك هو الفوز المبين
[YA]: Then, as to those who believed and did righteous deeds, their Lord will admit them to His Mercy that will be the achievement for all to see.

[RK]:As for those who believe and work righteousness, their Lord will admit them into His mercy. This is the great triumph.

Faamma allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo alssalihati fayudkhiluhumrabbuhum fee rahmatihi thalika huwa alfawzualmubeenuفاما الذين امنوا وعملوا الصالحات فيدخلهم ربهم في رحمته ذلك هو الفوز المبين
[YA]: Then, as to those who believed and did righteous deeds, their Lord will admit them to His Mercy that will be the achievement for all to see.

[RK]:As for those who believe and work righteousness, their Lord will admit them into His mercy. This is the great triumph.

Waamma allatheena kafarooafalam takun ayatee tutla AAalaykum faistakbartumwakuntum qawman mujrimeenaواما الذين كفروا افلم تكن اياتي تتلي عليكم فاستكبرتم وكنتم قوما مجرمين
[YA]: But as to those who rejected Allah, (to them will be said): "Were not Our Signs rehearsed to you? But ye were arrogant, and were a people given to sin!

[RK]:As for those who disbelieve: "Were not My revelations recited to you, but you turned arrogant and were wicked people?"

Waqeela alyawma nansakum kamanaseetum liqaa yawmikum hatha wama/wakumu alnnaruwama lakum min nasireenaوقيل اليوم ننساكم كما نسيتم لقاء يومكم هذا وماواكم النار ومالكم من ناصرين
[YA]: It will also be said: "This Day We will forget you as ye forgot the meeting of this Day of yours! and your abode is the Fire, and no helpers have ye!

[RK]:It will be proclaimed: "Today we forget you, just as you forgot the meeting of this day. Your abode is the hellfire, and you will have no helpers.

Thalikum bi-annakumu ittakhathtumayati Allahi huzuwan wagharratkumu alhayatualddunya faalyawma la yukhrajoonaminha wala hum yustaAAtaboonaذلكم بانكم اتخذتم ايات الله هزوا وغرتكم الحياة الدنيا فاليوم لايخرجون منها ولاهم يستعتبون
[YA]: "This, because ye used to take the Signs of Allah in jest, and the life of the world deceived you:" (From) that Day, therefore, they shall not be taken out thence, nor shall they be received into Grace.

[RK]:"This is because you took GOD's revelations in vain, and were preoccupied with the first life." Consequently, they will never exit therefrom, nor will they be excused.

Ma khalaqna alssamawatiwaal-arda wama baynahuma illabialhaqqi waajalin musamman waallatheenakafaroo AAamma onthiroo muAAridoonaماخلقنا السماوات والارض ومابينهما الا بالحق واجل مسمي والذين كفروا عما انذروا معرضون
[YA]: We created not the heavens and the earth and all between them but for just ends, and for a Term Appointed: But those who reject Faith turn away from that whereof they are warned.

[RK]:We did not create the heavens and the earth, and everything between them except for a specific purpose, and for a finite interim. Those who disbelieve are totally oblivious to the warnings given to them.

Qul araaytum ma tadAAoona min dooniAllahi aroonee matha khalaqoo mina al-ardiam lahum shirkun fee alssamawati eetooneebikitabin min qabli hatha aw atharatin minAAilmin in kuntum sadiqeenaقل ارايتم ماتدعون من دون الله اروني ماذا خلقوا من الارض ام لهم شرك في السماوات ايتوني بكتاب من قبل هذا او اثارة من علم ان كنتم صادقين
[YA]: Say: "Do ye see what it is ye invoke besides Allah? Show me what it is they have created on earth, or have they a share in the heavens bring me a book (revealed) before this, or any remnant of knowledge (ye may have), if ye are telling the truth!

[RK]:Say, "Consider the idols you have set up beside GOD. Show me what on earth did they create. Do they own part of the heavens? Show me any other scripture before this one, or any piece of established knowledge that supports your idolatry, if you are truthful."

Wa-itha tutla AAalayhim ayatunabayyinatin qala allatheena kafaroo lilhaqqilamma jaahum hatha sihrun mubeenunواذا تتلي عليهم اياتنا بينات قال الذين كفروا للحق لما جاءهم هذا سحر مبين
[YA]: When Our Clear Signs are rehearsed to them, the Unbelievers say, of the Truth when it comes to them: "This is evident sorcery!"

[RK]:When our revelations were recited to them, perfectly clear, those who disbelieved said of the truth that came to them, "This is obviously magic!"

Wa-itha tutla AAalayhim ayatunabayyinatin qala allatheena kafaroo lilhaqqilamma jaahum hatha sihrun mubeenunواذا تتلي عليهم اياتنا بينات قال الذين كفروا للحق لما جاءهم هذا سحر مبين
[YA]: When Our Clear Signs are rehearsed to them, the Unbelievers say, of the Truth when it comes to them: "This is evident sorcery!"

[RK]:When our revelations were recited to them, perfectly clear, those who disbelieved said of the truth that came to them, "This is obviously magic!"

Waqala allatheena kafaroolillatheena amanoo law kana khayran masabaqoona ilayhi wa-ith lam yahtadoo bihifasayaqooloona hatha ifkun qadeemunوقال الذين كفروا للذين امنوا لو كان خيرا ماسبقونا اليه واذ لم يهتدوا به فسيقولون هذا افك قديم
[YA]: The Unbelievers say of those who believe: "If (this Message) were a good thing, (such men) would not have gone to it first, before us!" And seeing that they guide not themselves thereby, they will say, "this is an (old,) falsehood!"

[RK]:Those who disbelieved said about those who believed, "If it were anything good, they would not have accepted it before us." Because they were not guided to it, they said, "This is an old fabrication!"

[YA]: The Unbelievers say of those who believe: "If (this Message) were a good thing, (such men) would not have gone to it first, before us!" And seeing that they guide not themselves thereby, they will say, "this is an (old,) falsehood!"

[RK]:Those who disbelieved said about those who believed, "If it were anything good, they would not have accepted it before us." Because they were not guided to it, they said, "This is an old fabrication!"

Wamin qablihi kitabu moosa imamanwarahmatan wahatha kitabun musaddiqunlisanan AAarabiyyan liyunthira allatheena thalamoowabushra lilmuhsineenaومن قبله كتاب موسي اماما ورحمة وهذا كتاب مصدق لسانا عربيا لينذر الذين ظلموا وبشري للمحسنين
[YA]: And before this, was the Book of Moses as a guide and a mercy: And this Book confirms (it) in the Arabic tongue; to admonish the unjust, and as Glad Tidings to those who do right.

[RK]:Before this, the book of Moses provided guidance and mercy. This too is a scripture that confirms, in Arabic, to warn those who transgressed, and to give good news to the righteous.

Wamin qablihi kitabu moosa imamanwarahmatan wahatha kitabun musaddiqunlisanan AAarabiyyan liyunthira allatheena thalamoowabushra lilmuhsineenaومن قبله كتاب موسي اماما ورحمة وهذا كتاب مصدق لسانا عربيا لينذر الذين ظلموا وبشري للمحسنين
[YA]: And before this, was the Book of Moses as a guide and a mercy: And this Book confirms (it) in the Arabic tongue; to admonish the unjust, and as Glad Tidings to those who do right.

[RK]:Before this, the book of Moses provided guidance and mercy. This too is a scripture that confirms, in Arabic, to warn those who transgressed, and to give good news to the righteous.

Inna allatheena qaloo rabbunaAllahu thumma istaqamoo fala khawfunAAalayhim wala hum yahzanoonaان الذين قالوا ربنا الله ثم استقاموا فلا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون
[YA]: Verily those who say, "Our Lord is Allah," and remain firm (on that Path),- on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

[RK]:Surely, those who say, "Our Lord is GOD," then lead a righteous life, will have no fear, nor will they grieve.

Ola-ika as-habualjannati khalideena feeha jazaan bimakanoo yaAAmaloonaاولئك اصحاب الجنة خالدين فيها جزاء بما كانوا يعملون
[YA]: Such shall be Companions of the Gardens, dwelling therein (for aye): a recompense for their (good) deeds.

[RK]:They have deserved Paradise, where they abide forever; a reward for their works.

Ola-ika allatheena nataqabbaluAAanhum ahsana ma AAamiloo wanatajawazu AAansayyi-atihim fee as-habi aljannati waAAda alssidqiallathee kanoo yooAAadoonaاولئك الذين نتقبل عنهم احسن ماعملوا ونتجاوز عن سيئاتهم في اصحاب الجنة وعد الصدق الذي كانوا يوعدون
[YA]: Such are they from whom We shall accept the best of their deeds and pass by their ill deeds: (They shall be) among the Companions of the Garden: a promise! of truth, which was made to them (in this life).

[RK]:It is from these that we accept the righteous works, and overlook their sins. They have deserved Paradise. This is the truthful promise that is promised to them.

Ola-ika allatheena nataqabbaluAAanhum ahsana ma AAamiloo wanatajawazu AAansayyi-atihim fee as-habi aljannati waAAda alssidqiallathee kanoo yooAAadoonaاولئك الذين نتقبل عنهم احسن ماعملوا ونتجاوز عن سيئاتهم في اصحاب الجنة وعد الصدق الذي كانوا يوعدون
[YA]: Such are they from whom We shall accept the best of their deeds and pass by their ill deeds: (They shall be) among the Companions of the Garden: a promise! of truth, which was made to them (in this life).

[RK]:It is from these that we accept the righteous works, and overlook their sins. They have deserved Paradise. This is the truthful promise that is promised to them.
