[YA]: Then, when We decreed (Solomon's) death, nothing showed them his death except a little worm of the earth, which kept (slowly) gnawing away at his staff: so when he fell down, the Jinns saw plainly that if they had known the unseen, they would not have tarried in the humiliating Penalty (of their Task). [RK]:When the appointed time for his death came, they had no clue that he had died. Not until one of the animals tried to eat his staff, and he fell down, did the jinns realized that he was dead. They thus realized that if they really knew the unseen, they would have stopped working so hard as soon as he died.
252 | [34:33] Line:3639 |
| ||
[YA]: Those who had been despised will say to the arrogant ones: "Nay! it was a plot (of yours) by day and by night: Behold! Ye (constantly) ordered us to be ungrateful to Allah and to attribute equals to Him!" They will declare (their) repentance when they see the Penalty: We shall put yokes on the necks of the Unbelievers: It would only be a requital for their (ill) Deeds. [RK]:The followers will say to their leaders, "It was you who schemed night and day, then commanded us to be unappreciative of GOD, and to set up idols to rank with Him." They will be ridden with remorse, when they see the retribution, for we will place shackles around the necks of those who disbelieved. Are they not justly requited for what they did?
253 | [34:35] Line:3641 |
| ||
[YA]: They said: "We have more in wealth and in sons, and we cannot be punished." [RK]:They also said, "We are more powerful, with more money and children, and we will not be punished."
254 | [34:38] Line:3644 |
| ||
[YA]: Those who strive against Our Signs, to frustrate them, will be given over into Punishment. [RK]:As for those who consistently challenge our revelations, they will abide in retribution.
255 | [34:42] Line:3648 |
| ||
[YA]: So on that Day no power shall they have over each other, for profit or harm: and We shall say to the wrong-doers, "Taste ye the Penalty of the Fire,- the which ye were wont to deny!" [RK]:On that day, you possess no power to help or harm one another, and we will say to the transgressors, "Taste the retribution of the Hell that you used to deny."
256 | [34:46] Line:3652 |
| ||
[YA]: Say: "I do admonish you on one point: that ye do stand up before Allah,- (It may be) in pairs, or (it may be) singly,- and reflect (within yourselves): your Companion is not possessed: he is no less than a warner to you, in face of a terrible Penalty." [RK]:Say, "I ask you to do one thing: Devote yourselves to GOD, in pairs or as individuals, then reflect. Your friend (Rashad) is not crazy. He is a manifest warner to you, just before the advent of a terrible retribution."
257 | [35:7] Line:3667 |
| ||
[YA]: For those who reject Allah, is a terrible Penalty: but for those who believe and work righteous deeds, is Forgiveness, and a magnificent Reward. [RK]:Those who disbelieve have incurred a severe retribution, and those who believe and lead a righteous life have deserved forgiveness and a great recompense.
258 | [35:10] Line:3670 |
| ||
[YA]: If any do seek for glory and power,- to Allah belong all glory and power. To Him mount up (all) Words of Purity: It is He Who exalts each Deed of Righteousness. Those that lay Plots of Evil,- for them is a Penalty terrible; and the plotting of such will be void (of result). [RK]:Anyone seeking dignity should know that to GOD belongs all dignity. To Him ascends the good words, and He exalts the righteous works. As for those who scheme evil works, they incur severe retribution; the scheming of such people is destined to fail.
259 | [35:12] Line:3672 |
| ||
[YA]: Nor are the two bodies of flowing water alike,- the one palatable, sweet, and pleasant to drink, and the other, salt and bitter. Yet from each (kind of water) do ye eat flesh fresh and tender, and ye extract ornaments to wear; and thou seest the ships therein that plough the waves, that ye may seek (thus) of the Bounty of Allah that ye may be grateful. [RK]:The two seas are not the same; one is fresh and delicious, while the other is salty and undrinkable. From each of them you eat tender meat, and extract jewelry to wear. And you see the ships sailing through them, seeking His provisions, that you may be appreciative.
260 | [35:36] Line:3696 |
| ||
[YA]: But those who reject (Allah) - for them will be the Fire of Hell: No term shall be determined for them, so they should die, nor shall its Penalty be lightened for them. Thus do We reward every ungrateful one! [RK]:As for those who disbelieve, they have incurred the fire of Hell, where they are never finished by death, nor is the retribution ever commuted for them. We thus requite the unappreciative.
261 | [36:18] Line:3723 |
| ||
[YA]: The (people) said: "for us, we augur an evil omen from you: if ye desist not, we will certainly stone you. And a grievous punishment indeed will be inflicted on you by us." [RK]:They said, "We consider you bad omens. Unless you refrain, we will surely stone you, or afflict you with painful retribution."
262 | [37:9] Line:3797 |
| ||
[YA]: Repulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty, [RK]:They have been condemned; they have incurred an eternal retribution.
263 | [37:33] Line:3821 |
| ||
[YA]: Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. [RK]:Thus, together they will all partake of the retribution on that day.
264 | [37:38] Line:3826 |
| ||
[YA]: Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- [RK]:Most assuredly, you will taste the most painful retribution.
265 | [37:59] Line:3847 |
| ||
[YA]: "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" [RK]:"only the first death, and we never receive any requital?"
266 | [37:176] Line:3964 |
| ||
[YA]: Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? [RK]:Do they challenge our retribution?
267 | [38:8] Line:3978 |
| ||
[YA]: "What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"...but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment! [RK]:"Why did the proof come down to him, instead of us?" Indeed, they are doubtful of My proof. Indeed, they have not yet tasted My retribution.
268 | [38:26] Line:3996 |
| ||
[YA]: O David! We did indeed make thee a vicegerent on earth: so judge thou between men in truth (and justice): Nor follow thou the lusts (of thy heart), for they will mislead thee from the Path of Allah: for those who wander astray from the Path of Allah, is a Penalty Grievous, for that they forget the Day of Account. [RK]:O David, we have made you a ruler on earth. Therefore, you shall judge among the people equitably, and do not follow your personal opinion, lest it diverts you from the way of GOD. Surely, those who stray off the way of GOD incur severe retribution for forgetting the Day of Reckoning.
269 | [38:41] Line:4011 |
| ||
[YA]: Commemorate Our Servant Job. Behold he cried to his Lord: "The Evil One has afflicted me with distress and suffering!" [RK]:Remember our servant Job: he called upon his Lord, "The devil has afflicted me with hardship and pain."
270 | [38:61] Line:4031 |
| ||
[YA]: They will say: "Our Lord! whoever brought this upon us,- Add to him a double Penalty in the Fire!" [RK]:They will also say, "Our Lord, these are the ones who led us into this; double the retribution of hellfire for them."
271 | [39:13] Line:4071 |
| ||
[YA]: Say: "I would, if I disobeyed my Lord, indeed have fear of the Penalty of a Mighty Day." [RK]:Say, "I fear, if I disobeyed my Lord, the retribution of a great day."
272 | [39:19] Line:4077 |
| ||
[YA]: Is, then, one against whom the decree of Punishment is justly due (equal to one who eschews Evil)? Wouldst thou, then, deliver one (who is) in the Fire? [RK]:With regard to those who have deserved the retribution, can you save those who are already in Hell?
273 | [39:24] Line:4082 |
| ||
[YA]: Is, then, one who has to fear the brunt of the Penalty on the Day of Judgment (and receive it) on his face, (like one guarded therefrom)? It will be said to the wrong-doers: "Taste ye (the fruits of) what ye earned!" [RK]:What is better than saving one's face from the terrible retribution on the Day of Resurrection? The transgressors will be told, "Taste the consequences of what you earned."
274 | [39:25] Line:4083 |
| ||
[YA]: Those before them (also) rejected (revelation), and so the Punishment came to them from directions they did not perceive. [RK]:Others before them have disbelieved and, consequently, the retribution afflicted them whence they never expected.
275 | [39:26] Line:4084 |
| ||
[YA]: So Allah gave them a taste of humiliation in the present life, but greater is the punishment of the Hereafter, if they only knew! [RK]:GOD has condemned them to humiliation in this life, and the retribution in the Hereafter will be far worse, if they only knew.
276 | [39:40] Line:4098 |
| ||
[YA]: "Who it is to whom comes a Penalty of ignominy, and on whom descends a Penalty that abides." [RK]:"(You will find out) who has incurred shameful punishment, and has deserved an eternal retribution."
277 | [39:40] Line:4098 |
| ||
[YA]: "Who it is to whom comes a Penalty of ignominy, and on whom descends a Penalty that abides." [RK]:"(You will find out) who has incurred shameful punishment, and has deserved an eternal retribution."
278 | [39:47] Line:4105 |
| ||
[YA]: Even if the wrong-doers had all that there is on earth, and as much more, (in vain) would they offer it for ransom from the pain of the Penalty on the Day of Judgment: but something will confront them from Allah, which they could never have counted upon! [RK]:If those who transgressed owned everything on earth, even twice as much, they would readily give it up to avoid the terrible retribution on the Day of Resurrection. They will be shown by GOD what they never expected.
279 | [39:54] Line:4112 |
| ||
[YA]: "Turn ye to our Lord (in repentance) and bow to His (Will), before the Penalty comes on you: after that ye shall not be helped. [RK]:You shall obey your Lord, and submit to Him totally, before the retribution overtakes you; then you cannot be helped.
280 | [39:55] Line:4113 |
| ||
[YA]: "And follow the best of (the courses) revealed to you from your Lord, before the Penalty comes on you - of a sudden while ye perceive not!- [RK]:And follow the best path that is pointed out for you by your Lord, before the retribution overtakes you suddenly when you least expect it.
281 | [39:58] Line:4116 |
| ||
[YA]: "Or (lest) it should say when it (actually) sees the penalty: 'If only I had another chance, I should certainly be among those who do good!' [RK]:Or say, when it sees the retribution, "If I get another chance, I will work righteousness."
282 | [39:71] Line:4129 |
| ||
[YA]: The Unbelievers will be led to Hell in crowd: until, when they arrive, there, its gates will be opened. And its keepers will say, "Did not messengers come to you from among yourselves, rehearsing to you the Signs of your Lord, and warning you of the Meeting of This Day of yours?" The answer will be: "True: but the Decree of Punishment has been proved true against the Unbelievers!" [RK]:Those who disbelieved will be led to Hell in throngs. When they get to it, and its gates are opened, its guards will say, "Did you not receive messengers from among you, who recited to you the revelations of your Lord, and warned you about meeting this day?" They will answer, "Yes indeed. But the word `retribution' was already stamped upon the disbelievers."
283 | [40:7] Line:4140 |
| ||
[YA]: Those who sustain the Throne (of Allah) and those around it Sing Glory and Praise to their Lord; believe in Him; and implore Forgiveness for those who believe: "Our Lord! Thy Reach is over all things, in Mercy and Knowledge. Forgive, then, those who turn in Repentance, and follow Thy Path; and preserve them from the Penalty of the Blazing Fire! [RK]:Those who serve the throne and all those around it glorify and praise their Lord, and believe in Him. And they ask forgiveness for those who believe: "Our Lord, Your mercy and Your knowledge encompass all things. Forgive those who repent and follow Your path, and spare them the retribution of Hell.
284 | [40:45] Line:4178 |
| ||
[YA]: Then Allah saved him from (every) ill that they plotted (against him), but the burnt of the Penalty encompassed on all sides the People of Pharaoh. [RK]:GOD then protected him from their evil schemes, while the people of Pharaoh have incurred the worst retribution.
285 | [40:46] Line:4179 |
| ||
[YA]: In front of the Fire will they be brought, morning and evening: And (the sentence will be) on the Day that Judgment will be established: "Cast ye the People of Pharaoh into the severest Penalty!" [RK]:The Hell will be shown to them day and night, and on the Day of Resurrection: "Admit Pharaoh's people into the worst retribution."
286 | [40:49] Line:4182 |
| ||
[YA]: Those in the Fire will say to the Keepers of Hell: "Pray to your Lord to lighten us the Penalty for a day (at least)!" [RK]:Those in the hellfire will say to the guardians of Hell, "Call upon your Lord to reduce the retribution for us, for even one day."
287 | [41:16] Line:4234 |
| ||
[YA]: So We sent against them a furious Wind through days of disaster, that We might give them a taste of a Penalty of humiliation in this life; but the Penalty of a Hereafter will be more humiliating still: and they will find no help. [RK]:Consequently, we sent upon them violent wind, for a few miserable days. We thus afflicted them with humiliating retribution in this life, and the retribution of the Hereafter is more humiliating; they can never win.
288 | [41:16] Line:4234 |
| ||
289 | [41:17] Line:4235 |
| ||
[YA]: As to the Thamud, We gave them Guidance, but they preferred blindness (of heart) to Guidance: so the stunning Punishment of humiliation seized them, because of what they had earned. [RK]:As for Thamoud, we provided them with guidance, but they preferred blindness over guidance. Consequently, the disastrous and shameful retribution annihilated them, because of what they earned.
290 | [41:27] Line:4245 |
| ||
[YA]: But We will certainly give the Unbelievers a taste of a severe Penalty, and We will requite them for the worst of their deeds. [RK]:We will certainly afflict these disbelievers with a severe retribution. We will certainly requite them for their evil works.
291 | [41:50] Line:4268 |
| ||
[YA]: When we give him a taste of some Mercy from Ourselves, after some adversity has touched him, he is sure to say, "This is due to my (merit): I think not that the Hour (of Judgment) will (ever) be established; but if I am brought back to my Lord, I have (much) good (stored) in His sight!" But We will show the Unbelievers the truth of all that they did, and We shall give them the taste of a severe Penalty. [RK]:And when we bless him after suffering some adversity, he says, "This belongs to me. I do not believe that the Hour will ever come to pass. Even if I am returned to my Lord, I will find at Him better things." Most certainly, we will inform the disbelievers of all their works, and will commit them to severe retribution.
292 | [42:16] Line:4288 |
| ||
[YA]: But those who dispute concerning Allah after He has been accepted,- futile is their dispute in the Sight of their Lord: on them will be a Penalty terrible. [RK]:Those who argue about GOD, after receiving His message, their argument is nullified at their Lord. They have incurred condemnation, and have deserved a severe retribution.
293 | [42:21] Line:4293 |
| ||
[YA]: What! have they partners (in godhead), who have established for them some religion without the permission of Allah? Had it not been for the Decree of Judgment, the matter would have been decided between them (at once). But verily the Wrong-doers will have a grievous Penalty. [RK]:They follow idols who decree for them religious laws never authorized by GOD. If it were not for the predetermined decision, they would have been judged immediately. Indeed, the transgressors have incurred a painful retribution.
294 | [42:26] Line:4298 |
| ||
[YA]: And He listens to those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, and gives them increase of His Bounty: but for the Unbelievers their is a terrible Penalty. [RK]:Responding to Him are those who believe and lead a righteous life. He will shower them with His blessings. As for the disbelievers, they have incurred a severe retribution.
295 | [42:42] Line:4314 |
| ||
[YA]: The blame is only against those who oppress men and wrong-doing and insolently transgress beyond bounds through the land, defying right and justice: for such there will be a penalty grievous. [RK]:The wrong ones are those who treat the people unjustly, and resort to aggression without provocation. These have incurred a painful retribution.
296 | [42:44] Line:4316 |
| ||
[YA]: For any whom Allah leaves astray, there is no protector thereafter. And thou wilt see the Wrong-doers, when in sight of the Penalty, Say: "Is there any way (to effect) a return?" [RK]:Whomever GOD sends astray will never find any other lord, and you will see such transgressors, when they see the retribution, saying, "Can we get another chance?"
297 | [42:45] Line:4317 |
| ||
[YA]: And thou wilt see them brought forward to the (Penalty), in a humble frame of mind because of (their) disgrace, (and) looking with a stealthy glance. And the Believers will say: "Those are indeed in loss, who have given to perdition their own selves and those belonging to them on the Day of Judgment. Behold! Truly the Wrong-doers are in a lasting Penalty!" [RK]:You will see them facing it, humiliated and debased, and looking, yet trying to avoid looking. Those who believed will proclaim: "The real losers are those who lost their souls and their families on the Day of Resurrection. The transgressors have deserved an everlasting retribution."
298 | [43:39] Line:4364 |
| ||
[YA]: When ye have done wrong, it will avail you nothing, that Day, that ye shall be partners in Punishment! [RK]:It will not console you on that day, as transgressors, that both of you will share in the retribution.
299 | [43:48] Line:4373 |
| ||
[YA]: We showed them Sign after Sign, each greater than its fellow, and We seized them with Punishment, in order that they might turn (to Us). [RK]:Every sign we showed them was bigger than the one before it. We afflicted them with the plagues, perhaps they repent.
300 | [43:50] Line:4375 |
| ||
[YA]: But when We removed the Penalty from them, behold, they broke their word. [RK]:But as soon as we relieved their affliction, they reverted.
