Waallatheena kafaroo wakaththaboobi-ayatina ola-ika as-habualnnari hum feeha khalidoona

والذين كفروا وكذبوا باياتنا اولئك اصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

[YA]: "But those who reject Faith and belie Our Signs, they shall be companions of the Fire; they shall abide therein."

[RK]:"As for those who disbelieve and reject our revelations, they will be dwellers of Hell, wherein they abide forever."

Bala man kasaba sayyi-atan waahatatbihi khatee-atuhu faola-ika as-habu alnnarihum feeha khalidoona

بلي من كسب سيئة واحاطت به خطيئته فاولئك اصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

[YA]: Nay, those who seek gain in evil, and are girt round by their sins,- they are companions of the Fire: Therein shall they abide (For ever).

[RK]:Indeed, those who earn sins and become surrounded by their evil work will be the dwellers of Hell; they abide in it forever.

Waallatheena amanoowaAAamiloo alssalihati ola-ika as-habualjannati hum feeha khalidoona

والذين امنوا وعملوا الصالحات اولئك اصحاب الجنة هم فيها خالدون

[YA]: But those who have faith and work righteousness, they are companions of the Garden: Therein shall they abide (For ever).

[RK]:As for those who believe, and lead a righteous life, they will be the dwellers of Paradise; they abide in it forever.

Inna arsalnaka bialhaqqibasheeran wanatheeran wala tus-alu Aaan as-habialjaheemi

انا ارسلناك بالحق بشيرا ونذيرا ولاتسال عن اصحاب الجحيم

[YA]: Verily We have sent thee in truth as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner: But of thee no question shall be asked of the Companions of the Blazing Fire.

[RK]:We have sent you with the truth as a bearer of good news, as well as a warner. You are not answerable for those who incur Hell.

Inna fee khalqi alssamawatiwaal-ardi waikhtilafi allayli waalnnahariwaalfulki allatee tajree fee albahri bimayanfaAAu alnnasa wama anzala Allahumina alssama-i min ma-in faahyabihi al-arda baAAda mawtiha wabaththa feehamin kulli dabbatin watasreefi alrriyahiwaalssahabi almusakhkhari bayna alssama-iwaal-ardi laayatin liqawminyaAAqiloona

ان في خلق السماوات والارض واختلاف الليل والنهار والفلك التي تجري في البحر بما ينفع الناس وماانزل الله من السماء من ماء فاحيا به الارض بعد موتها وبث فيها من كل دابة وتصريف الرياح والسحاب المسخر بين السماء والارض لايات لقوم يعقلون

[YA]: Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of the ships through the ocean for the profit of mankind; in the rain which Allah Sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds which they Trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth;- (Here) indeed are Signs for a people that are wise.

[RK]:In the creation of the heavens and the earth, the alternation of night and day, the ships that roam the ocean for the benefit of the people, the water that GOD sends down from the sky to revive dead land and to spread in it all kinds of creatures, the manipulation of the winds, and the clouds that are placed between the sky and the earth, there are sufficient proofs for people who understand.

Yas-aloonaka AAani alshshahri alharamiqitalin feehi qul qitalun feehi kabeerun wasaddunAAan sabeeli Allahi wakufrun bihi waalmasjidi alharamiwa-ikhraju ahlihi minhu akbaru AAinda Allahi waalfitnatuakbaru mina alqatli wala yazaloona yuqatiloonakumhatta yaruddookum AAan deenikum ini istataAAoowaman yartadid minkum AAan deenihi fayamut wahuwa kafirunfaola-ika habitat aAAmaluhum fee alddunyawaal-akhirati waola-ika as-habualnnari hum feeha khalidoona

يسالونك عن الشهر الحرام قتال فيه قل قتال فيه كبير وصد عن سبيل الله وكفر به والمسجد الحرام واخراج اهله منه اكبر عند الله والفتنة اكبر من القتل ولايزالون يقاتلونكم حتي يردوكم عن دينكم ان استطاعوا ومن يرتدد منكم عن دينه فيمت وهو كافر فاولئك حبطت اعمالهم في الدنيا والاخرة واولئك اصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

[YA]: They ask thee concerning fighting in the Prohibited Month. Say: "Fighting therein is a grave (offence); but graver is it in the sight of Allah to prevent access to the path of Allah, to deny Him, to prevent access to the Sacred Mosque, and drive out its members." Tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter. Nor will they cease fighting you until they turn you back from your faith if they can. And if any of you Turn back from their faith and die in unbelief, their works will bear no fruit in this life and in the Hereafter; they will be companions of the Fire and will abide therein.

[RK]:They ask you about the Sacred Months and fighting therein: say, "Fighting therein is a sacrilege. However, repelling from the path of GOD and disbelieving in Him and in the sanctity of the Sacred Masjid, and evicting its people, are greater sacrileges in the sight of GOD. Oppression is worse than murder." They will always fight you to revert you from your religion, if they can. Those among you who revert from their religion, and die as disbelievers, have nullified their works in this life and the Hereafter. These are the dwellers of Hell, wherein they abide forever.

Allahu waliyyu allatheena amanooyukhrijuhum mina alththulumati ilaalnnoori waallatheena kafaroo awliyaohumualttaghootu yukhrijoonahum mina alnnoori ilaalththulumati ola-ika as-habualnnari hum feeha khalidoona

الله ولي الذين امنوا يخرجهم من الظلمات الي النور والذين كفروا اولياؤهم الطاغوت يخرجونهم من النور الي الظلمات اولئك اصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

[YA]: Allah is the Protector of those who have faith: from the depths of darkness He will lead them forth into light. Of those who reject faith the patrons are the evil ones: from light they will lead them forth into the depths of darkness. They will be companions of the fire, to dwell therein (For ever).

[RK]:GOD is Lord of those who believe; He leads them out of darkness into the light. As for those who disbelieve, their lords are their idols; they lead them out of the light into darkness - these will be the dwellers of Hell; they abide in it forever.

Allatheena ya/kuloona alrribala yaqoomoona illa kama yaqoomu allatheeyatakhabbatuhu alshshaytanu mina almassi thalikabi-annahum qaloo innama albayAAu mithlu alrribawaahalla Allahu albayAAa waharrama alrribafaman jaahu mawAAithatun min rabbihi faintahafalahu ma salafa waamruhu ila Allahi wamanAAada faola-ika as-habu alnnarihum feeha khalidoona

الذين ياكلون الربا لايقومون الا كما يقوم الذي يتخبطه الشيطان من المس ذلك بانهم قالوا انما البيع مثل الربا واحل الله البيع وحرم الربا فمن جاءه موعظة من ربه فانتهي فله ماسلف وامره الي الله ومن عاد فاولئك اصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

[YA]: Those who devour usury will not stand except as stand one whom the Evil one by his touch Hath driven to madness. That is because they say: "Trade is like usury," but Allah hath permitted trade and forbidden usury. Those who after receiving direction from their Lord, desist, shall be pardoned for the past; their case is for Allah (to judge); but those who repeat (The offence) are companions of the Fire: They will abide therein (for ever).

[RK]:Those who charge usury are in the same position as those controlled by the devil's influence. This is because they claim that usury is the same as commerce. However, GOD permits commerce, and prohibits usury. Thus, whoever heeds this commandment from his Lord, and refrains from usury, he may keep his past earnings, and his judgment rests with GOD. As for those who persist in usury, they incur Hell, wherein they abide forever.

Inna allatheena kafaroo lan tughniyaAAanhum amwaluhum wala awladuhum mina Allahishay-an waola-ika as-habu alnnarihum feeha khalidoona

ان الذين كفروا لن تغني عنهم اموالهم ولااولادهم من الله شيئا واولئك اصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

[YA]: Those who reject Faith,- neither their possessions nor their (numerous) progeny will avail them aught against Allah: They will be companions of the Fire,-dwelling therein (for ever).

[RK]:Those who disbelieved can never be helped by their money or their children against GOD. They have incurred Hell, wherein they abide forever.

WaoAAbudoo Allaha walatushrikoo bihi shay-an wabialwalidayni ihsananwabithee alqurba waalyatama waalmasakeeniwaaljari thee alqurba waaljarialjunubi waalssahibi bialjanbi waibnialssabeeli wama malakat aymanukum inna Allahala yuhibbu man kana mukhtalan fakhooran

واعبدوا الله ولاتشركوا به شيئا وبالوالدين احسانا وبذي القربي واليتامي والمساكين والجار ذي القربي والجار الجنب والصاحب بالجنب وابن السبيل وماملكت ايمانكم ان الله لايحب من كان مختالا فخورا

[YA]: Serve Allah, and join not any partners with Him; and do good- to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbours who are near, neighbours who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (ye meet), and what your right hands possess: For Allah loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious;-

[RK]:You shall worship GOD alone - do not associate anything with Him. You shall regard the parents, the relatives, the orphans, the poor, the related neighbor, the unrelated neighbor, the close associate, the traveling alien, and your servants. GOD does not like the arrogant show-offs.

Ya ayyuha allatheenaootoo alkitaba aminoo bima nazzalnamusaddiqan lima maAAakum min qabli an natmisawujoohan fanaruddaha AAala adbarihaaw nalAAanahum kama laAAanna as-habaalssabti wakana amru Allahi mafAAoolan

ياايها الذين اوتوا الكتاب امنوا بما نزلنا مصدقا لما معكم من قبل ان نطمس وجوها فنردها علي ادبارها او نلعنهم كما لعنا اصحاب السبت وكان امر الله مفعولا

[YA]: O ye People of the Book! believe in what We have (now) revealed, confirming what was (already) with you, before We change the face and fame of some (of you) beyond all recognition, and turn them hindwards, or curse them as We cursed the Sabbath-breakers, for the decision of Allah Must be carried out.

[RK]:O you who received the scripture, you shall believe in what we reveal herein, confirming what you have, before we banish certain faces to exile, or condemn them as we condemned those who desecrated the Sabbath. GOD's command is done.

والذين كفروا وكذبوا باياتنا اولئك اصحاب الجحيم

[YA]: Those who reject faith and deny our signs will be companions of Hell-fire.

[RK]:As for those who disbelieve and reject our revelations, they are the dwellers of Hell.

Innee oreedu an taboo-a bi-ithmee wa-ithmikafatakoona min as-habi alnnari wathalikajazao alththalimeena

اني اريد ان تبوء باثمي واثمك فتكون من اصحاب النار وذلك جزاء الظالمين

[YA]: "For me, I intend to let thee draw on thyself my sin as well as thine, for thou wilt be among the companions of the fire, and that is the reward of those who do wrong."

[RK]:"I want you, not me, to bear my sin and your sin, then you end up with the dwellers of Hell. Such is the requital for the transgressors."

[YA]: But those who reject Faith and belie our Signs,- they shall be companions of Hell-fire.

[RK]:As for those who disbelieve and reject our revelations, they are the dwellers of Hell.

Qul anadAAoo min dooni Allahi mala yanfaAAuna wala yadurrunawanuraddu AAala aAAqabina baAAda ithhadana Allahu kaallathee istahwat-hualshshayateenu fee al-ardi hayranalahu as-habun yadAAoonahu ila alhudai/tina qul inna huda Allahi huwa alhudawaomirna linuslima lirabbi alAAalameena

قل اندعوا من دون الله مالا ينفعنا ولايضرنا ونرد علي اعقابنا بعد اذ هدانا الله كالذي استهوته الشياطين في الارض حيران له اصحاب يدعونه الي الهدي ائتنا قل ان هدي الله هو الهدي وامرنا لنسلم لرب العالمين

[YA]: Say: "Shall we indeed call on others besides Allah,- things that can do us neither good nor harm,- and turn on our heels after receiving guidance from Allah? - like one whom the evil ones have made into a fool, wandering bewildered through the earth, his friends calling, come to us', (vainly) guiding him to the path." Say: "Allah's guidance is the (only) guidance, and we have been directed to submit ourselves to the Lord of the worlds;-

[RK]:Say, "Shall we implore, beside GOD, what possesses no power to benefit us or hurt us, and turn back on our heels after GOD has guided us? In that case, we would join those possessed by the devils, and rendered utterly confused, while their friends try to save them: `Stay with us on the right path.' " Say, "GOD's guidance is the right guidance. We are commanded to submit to the Lord of the universe.

BadeeAAu alssamawatiwaal-ardi anna yakoonu lahu waladun walamtakun lahu sahibatun wakhalaqa kulla shay-in wahuwabikulli shay-in AAaleemun

بديع السماوات والارض اني يكون له ولد ولم تكن له صاحبة وخلق كل شئ وهو بكل شئ عليم

[YA]: To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth: How can He have a son when He hath no consort? He created all things, and He hath full knowledge of all things.

[RK]:The Initiator of the heavens and the earth. How can He have a son, when He never had a mate? He created all things, and He is fully aware of all things.

Waallatheena kaththaboobi-ayatina waistakbaroo AAanhaola-ika as-habu alnnari humfeeha khalidoona

والذين كذبوا باياتنا واستكبروا عنها اولئك اصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

[YA]: But those who reject Our signs and treat them with arrogance,- they are companions of the Fire, to dwell therein (for ever).

[RK]:As for those who reject our revelations, and are too arrogant to uphold them, they have incurred Hell, wherein they abide forever.

Waallatheena amanoowaAAamiloo alssalihati la nukallifunafsan illa wusAAaha ola-ika as-habualjannati hum feeha khalidoona

والذين امنوا وعملوا الصالحات لانكلف نفسا الا وسعها اولئك اصحاب الجنة هم فيها خالدون

[YA]: But those who believe and work righteousness,- no burden do We place on any soul, but that which it can bear,- they will be Companions of the Garden, therein to dwell (for ever).

[RK]:As for those who believe and lead a righteous life - we never burden any soul beyond its means - these will be the dwellers of Paradise. They abide in it forever.

Wanada as-habualjannati as-haba alnnari an qadwajadna ma waAAadana rabbuna haqqanfahal wajadtum ma waAAada rabbukum haqqan qaloonaAAam faaththana mu-aththinun baynahum an laAAnatuAllahi AAala alththalimeena

ونادي اصحاب الجنة اصحاب النار ان قد وجدنا ماوعدنا ربنا حقا فهل وجدتم ماوعد ربكم حقا قالوا نعم فاذن مؤذن بينهم ان لعنة الله علي الظالمين

[YA]: The Companions of the Garden will call out to the Companions of the Fire: "We have indeed found the promises of our Lord to us true: Have you also found Your Lord's promises true?" They shall say, "Yes"; but a crier shall proclaim between them: "The curse of Allah is on the wrong-doers;-

[RK]:The dwellers of Paradise will call the dwellers of Hell: "We have found our Lord's promise to be the truth; have you found your Lord's promise to be the truth?" They will say, "Yes." An announcer between them will announce: "GOD's condemnation has befallen the transgressors;

Wabaynahuma hijabunwaAAala al-aAArafi rijalun yaAArifoonakullan biseemahum wanadaw as-habaaljannati an salamun AAalaykum lam yadkhuloohawahum yatmaAAoona

وبينهما حجاب وعلي الاعراف رجال يعرفون كلا بسيماهم ونادوا اصحاب الجنة ان سلام عليكم لم يدخلوها وهم يطمعون

[YA]: Between them shall be a veil, and on the heights will be men who would know every one by his marks: they will call out to the Companions of the Garden, "peace on you": they will not have entered, but they will have an assurance (thereof).

[RK]:A barrier separates them, while the Purgatory is occupied by people who recognize each side by their looks. They will call the dwellers of Paradise: "Peace be upon you." They did not enter (Paradise) through wishful thinking.

Wa-itha surifat absaruhumtilqaa as-habi alnnari qaloorabbana la tajAAalna maAAa alqawmi alththalimeena

واذا صرفت ابصارهم تلقاء اصحاب النار قالوا ربنا لاتجعلنا مع القوم الظالمين

[YA]: When their eyes shall be turned towards the Companions of the Fire, they will say: "Our Lord! send us not to the company of the wrong-doers."

[RK]:When they turn their eyes towards the dwellers of Hell, they will say, "Our Lord, do not put us with these wicked people."

Wanada as-habual-aAArafi rijalan yaAArifoonahum biseemahumqaloo ma aghna AAankum jamAAukum wamakuntum tastakbiroona

ونادي اصحاب الاعراف رجالا يعرفونهم بسيماهم قالوا مااغني عنكم جمعكم وماكنتم تستكبرون

[YA]: The men on the heights will call to certain men whom they will know from their marks, saying: "Of what profit to you were your hoards and your arrogant ways?

[RK]:The dwellers of the Purgatory will call on people they recognize by their looks, saying, "Your great numbers did not avail you in any way, nor did your arrogance.

Wanada as-habu alnarias-haba aljannati an afeedoo AAalaynamina alma-i aw mimma razaqakumu Allahu qalooinna Allaha harramahuma AAala alkafireena

ونادي اصحاب النار اصحاب الجنة ان افيضوا علينا من الماء او مما رزقكم الله قالوا ان الله حرمهما علي الكافرين

[YA]: The Companions of the Fire will call to the Companions of the Garden: "Pour down to us water or anything that Allah doth provide for your sustenance." They will say: "Both these things hath Allah forbidden to those who rejected Him."

[RK]:The dwellers of Hell will call on the dwellers of Paradise: "Let some of your water, or some of GOD's provisions to you flow towards us." They will say, "GOD has forbidden them for the disbelievers."

Wanada as-habu alnarias-haba aljannati an afeedoo AAalaynamina alma-i aw mimma razaqakumu Allahu qalooinna Allaha harramahuma AAala alkafireena

ونادي اصحاب النار اصحاب الجنة ان افيضوا علينا من الماء او مما رزقكم الله قالوا ان الله حرمهما علي الكافرين

Wahuwa allathee yursilu alrriyahabushran bayna yaday rahmatihi hatta ithaaqallat sahaban thiqalan suqnahu libaladinmayyitin faanzalna bihi almaa faakhrajnabihi min kulli alththamarati kathalikanukhriju almawta laAAallakum tathakkaroona

وهو الذي يرسل الرياح بشرا بين يدي رحمته حتي اذا اقلت سحابا ثقالا سقناه لبلد ميت فانزلنا به الماء فاخرجنا به من كل الثمرات كذلك نخرج الموتي لعلكم تذكرون

[YA]: It is He Who sendeth the winds like heralds of glad tidings, going before His mercy: when they have carried the heavy-laden clouds, We drive them to a land that is dead, make rain to descend thereon, and produce every kind of harvest therewith: thus shall We raise up the dead: perchance ye may remember.

[RK]:He is the One who sends the wind with good omen, as a mercy from His hands. Once they gather heavy clouds, we drive them to dead lands, and send down water therefrom, to produce with it all kinds of fruits. We thus resurrect the dead, that you may take heed.

Awa lam yatafakkaroo ma bisahibihimmin jinnatin in huwa illa natheerun mubeenun

اولم يتفكروا مابصاحبهم من جنة ان هو الا نذير مبين

[YA]: Do they not reflect? Their companion is not seized with madness: he is but a perspicuous warner.

[RK]:Why do they not reflect upon their friend (the messenger)? He is not crazy. He is simply a profound warner.

Illa tansuroohu faqad nasarahuAllahu ith akhrajahu allatheena kafaroo thaniyaithnayni ith huma fee alghari ithyaqoolu lisahibihi la tahzan inna AllahamaAAana faanzala Allahu sakeenatahu AAalayhiwaayyadahu bijunoodin lam tarawha wajaAAala kalimata allatheenakafaroo alssufla wakalimatu Allahi hiyaalAAulya waAllahu AAazeezun hakeemun

الا تنصروه فقد نصره الله اذ اخرجه الذين كفروا ثاني اثنين اذهما في الغار اذ يقول لصاحبه لاتحزن ان الله معنا فانزل الله سكينته عليه وايده بجنود لم تروها وجعل كلمة الذين كفروا السفلي وكلمة الله هي العليا والله عزيز حكيم

[YA]: If ye help not (your leader), (it is no matter): for Allah did indeed help him, when the Unbelievers drove him out: he had no more than one companion; they two were in the cave, and he said to his companion, "Have no fear, for Allah is with us": then Allah sent down His peace upon him, and strengthened him with forces which ye saw not, and humbled to the depths the word of the Unbelievers. But the word of Allah is exalted to the heights: for Allah is Exalted in might, Wise.

[RK]:If you fail to support him (the messenger), GOD has already supported him. Thus, when the disbelievers chased him, and he was one of two in the cave, he said to his friend, "Do not worry; GOD is with us." GOD then sent down contentment and security upon him, and supported him with invisible soldiers. He made the word of the disbelievers lowly. GOD's word reigns supreme. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.

Alam ya/tihim nabao allatheena minqablihim qawmi noohin waAAadin wathamooda waqawmiibraheema waas-habi madyana waalmu/tafikatiatat-hum rusuluhum bialbayyinati fama kanaAllahu liyathlimahum walakin kanooanfusahum yathlimoona

الم ياتهم نبا الذين من قبلهم قوم نوح وعاد وثمود وقوم ابراهيم واصحاب مدين والمؤتفكات اتتهم رسلهم بالبينات فما كان الله ليظلمهم ولكن كانوا انفسهم يظلمون

[YA]: Hath not the story reached them of those before them?- the People of Noah, and 'Ad, and Thamud; the People of Abraham, the men of Midian, and the cities overthrown. To them came their messengers with clear signs. It is not Allah Who wrongs them, but they wrong their own souls.

[RK]:Have they not learned anything from the previous generations; the people of Noah, `Aad, Thamood, the people of Abraham, the dwellers of Midyan, and the evildoers (of Sodom and Gomorrah)? Their messengers went to them with clear proofs. GOD never wronged them; they are the ones who wronged their own souls.

Ma kana lilnnabiyyi waallatheenaamanoo an yastaghfiroo lilmushrikeena walaw kanooolee qurba min baAAdi ma tabayyana lahum annahum as-habualjaheemi

ما كان للنبي والذين امنوا ان يستغفروا للمشركين ولو كانوا اولي قربي من بعد ماتبين لهم انهم اصحاب الجحيم

[YA]: It is not fitting, for the Prophet and those who believe, that they should pray for forgiveness for Pagans, even though they be of kin, after it is clear to them that they are companions of the Fire.

[RK]:Neither the prophet, nor those who believe shall ask forgiveness for the idol worshipers, even if they were their nearest of kin, once they realize that they are destined for Hell.

Lillatheena ahsanoo alhusnawaziyadatun wala yarhaqu wujoohahum qatarun walathillatun ola-ika as-habu aljannatihum feeha khalidoona

للذين احسنوا الحسني وزيادة ولايرهق وجوههم قتر ولاذلة اولئك اصحاب الجنة هم فيها خالدون

[YA]: To those who do right is a goodly (reward)- Yea, more (than in measure)! No darkness nor shame shall cover their faces! they are companions of the garden; they will abide therein (for aye)!

[RK]:For the righteous, the reward will be multiplied manifold. Their faces will never experience any deprivation or shame. These are the dwellers of Paradise; they abide therein forever.

والذين كسبوا السيئات جزاء سيئة بمثلها وترهقهم ذلة مالهم من الله من عاصم كانما اغشيت وجوههم قطعا من الليل مظلما اولئك اصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

[YA]: But those who have earned evil will have a reward of like evil: ignominy will cover their (faces): No defender will they have from (the wrath of) Allah: Their faces will be covered, as it were, with pieces from the depth of the darkness of night: they are companions of the Fire: they will abide therein (for aye)!

[RK]:As for those who earned sins, their requital is equivalent to their sin. Humiliation is their lot, and no one beside GOD can protect them. Their faces will seem overwhelmed by masses of dark night. They will be the dwellers of Hell; they abide therein forever.

ان الذين امنوا وعملوا الصالحات واخبتوا الي ربهم اولئك اصحاب الجنة هم فيها خالدون

[YA]: But those who believe and work righteousness, and humble themselves before their Lord,- They will be companions of the gardens, to dwell therein for aye!

[RK]:As for those who believe and lead a righteous life, and devote themselves to their Lord, they are the dwellers of Paradise; they abide therein forever.

ياصاحبي السجن ءارباب متفرقون خير ام الله الواحد القهار

[YA]: "O my two companions of the prison! (I ask you): are many lords differing among themselves better, or the One Allah, Supreme and Irresistible?

[RK]:"O my prison mates, are several gods better, or GOD alone, the One, the Supreme?

Ya sahibayi alssijniamma ahadukuma fayasqee rabbahu khamranwaamma al-akharu fayuslabu fata/kulu alttayrumin ra/sihi qudiya al-amru allathee feehi tastaftiyani

ياصاحبي السجن اما احدكما فيسقي ربه خمرا واما الاخر فيصلب فتاكل الطير من راسه قضي الامر الذي فيه تستفتيان

[YA]: "O my two companions of the prison! As to one of you, he will pour out the wine for his lord to drink: as for the other, he will hang from the cross, and the birds will eat from off his head. (so) hath been decreed that matter whereof ye twain do enquire"...

[RK]:"O my prison mates, one of you will be the wine butler for his lord, while the other will be crucified - the birds will eat from his head. This settles the matter about which you have inquired."

Wa-in taAAjab faAAajabun qawluhum a-ithakunna turaban a-inna lafee khalqin jadeedinola-ika allatheena kafaroo birabbihim waola-ikaal-aghlalu fee aAAnaqihim waola-ika as-habualnnari hum feeha khalidoona

وان تعجب فعجب قولهم ءاذا كنا ترابا ائنا لفي خلق جديد اولئك الذين كفروا بربهم واولئك الاغلال في اعناقهم واولئك اصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

[YA]: If thou dost marvel (at their want of faith), strange is their saying: "When we are (actually) dust, shall we indeed then be in a creation renewed?" They are those who deny their Lord! They are those round whose necks will be yokes (of servitude): they will be Companions of the Fire, to dwell therein (for aye)!

[RK]:If you ever wonder, the real wonder is their saying: "After we turn into dust, do we get recreated anew?" These are the ones who have disbelieved in their Lord. These are the ones who have incurred shackles around their necks. These are the ones who have incurred Hell, wherein they abide forever.

هو الذي يريكم البرق خوفا وطمعا وينشئ السحاب الثقال

[YA]: It is He Who doth show you the lightning, by way both of fear and of hope: It is He Who doth raise up the clouds, heavy with (fertilising) rain!

[RK]:He is the One who shows you the lightning as a source of fear, as well as hope, and He initiates the loaded clouds.

[YA]: And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers;

[RK]:The people of the woods also were transgressors.

[YA]: The Companions of the Rocky Tract also rejected the messengers:

ام حسبت ان اصحاب الكهف والرقيم كانوا من اياتنا عجبا

[YA]: Or dost thou reflect that the Companions of the Cave and of the Inscription were wonders among Our Sign?

[RK]:Why else do you think we are telling you about the people of the cave, and the numbers connected with them? They are among our wondrous signs.

Wakana lahu thamarun faqala lisahibihiwahuwa yuhawiruhu ana aktharu minka malanwaaAAazzu nafaran

وكان له ثمر فقال لصاحبه وهو يحاوره انا اكثر منك مالا واعز نفرا

[YA]: (Abundant) was the produce this man had : he said to his companion, in the course of a mutual argument: "more wealth have I than you, and more honour and power in (my following of) men."

[RK]:Once, after harvesting, he boastfully told his friend: "I am far more prosperous than you, and I command more respect from the people."

قال له صاحبه وهو يحاوره اكفرت بالذي خلقك من تراب ثم من نطفة ثم سواك رجلا

[YA]: His companion said to him, in the course of the argument with him: "Dost thou deny Him Who created thee out of dust, then out of a sperm-drop, then fashioned thee into a man?

[RK]:His friend said to him, as he debated with him, "Have you disbelieved in the One who created you from dust, then from a tiny drop, then perfected you into a man?

قال ان سالتك عن شئ بعدها فلاتصاحبني قد بلغت من لدني عذرا

[YA]: (Moses) said: "If ever I ask thee about anything after this, keep me not in thy company: then wouldst thou have received (full) excuse from my side."

[RK]:He said, "If I ask you about anything else, then do not keep me with you. You have seen enough apologies from me."

قل كل متربص فتربصوا فستعلمون من اصحاب الصراط السوي ومن اهتدي

[YA]: Say: "Each one (of us) is waiting: wait ye, therefore, and soon shall ye know who it is that is on the straight and even way, and who it is that has received Guidance."

[RK]:Say, "All of us are waiting, so wait; you will surely find out who are on the correct path, and who are truly guided."

واصحاب مدين وكذب موسي فامليت للكافرين ثم اخذتهم فكيف كان نكير

[YA]: And the Companions of the Madyan People; and Moses was rejected (in the same way). But I granted respite to the Unbelievers, and (only) after that did I punish them: but how (terrible) was my rejection (of them)!

[RK]:And the dwellers of Midyan. Moses was also rejected. I led all those people on, then I called them to account; how (devastating) was My requital!

والذين سعوا في اياتنا معاجزين اولئك اصحاب الجحيم

[YA]: "But those who strive against Our Signs, to frustrate them,- they will be Companions of the Fire."

[RK]:As for those who strive to challenge our revelations, they incur Hell.

او كظلمات في بحر لجي يغشاه موج من فوقه موج من فوقه سحاب ظلمات بعضها فوق بعض اذا اخرج يده لم يكد يراها ومن لم يجعل الله له نورا فماله من نور

[YA]: Or (the Unbelievers' state) is like the depths of darkness in a vast deep ocean, overwhelmed with billow topped by billow, topped by (dark) clouds: depths of darkness, one above another: if a man stretches out his hands, he can hardly see it! for any to whom Allah giveth not light, there is no light!

[RK]:Another allegory is that of being in total darkness in the midst of a violent ocean, with waves upon waves, in addition to thick fog. Darkness upon darkness - if he looked at his own hand, he could barely see it. Whomever GOD deprives of light, will have no light.

Alam tara anna Allaha yuzjee sahabanthumma yu-allifu baynahu thumma yajAAaluhu rukaman fataraalwadqa yakhruju min khilalihi wayunazzilu mina alssama-imin jibalin feeha min baradin fayuseebu bihiman yashao wayasrifuhu AAan man yashao yakadusana barqihi yathhabu bial-absari

الم تر ان الله يزجي سحابا ثم يؤلف بينه ثم يجعله ركاما فتري الودق يخرج من خلاله وينزل من السماء من جبال فيها من برد فيصيب به من يشاء ويصرفه عن من يشاء يكاد سنا برقه يذهب بالابصار

[YA]: Seest thou not that Allah makes the clouds move gently, then joins them together, then makes them into a heap? - then wilt thou see rain issue forth from their midst. And He sends down from the sky mountain masses (of clouds) wherein is hail: He strikes therewith whom He pleases and He turns it away from whom He pleases, the vivid flash of His lightning well-nigh blinds the sight.

[RK]:Do you not realize that GOD drives the clouds, then gathers them together, then piles them on each other, then you see the rain coming out of them? He sends down from the sky loads of snow to cover whomever He wills, while diverting it from whomever He wills. The brightness of the snow almost blinds the eyes.

As-habu aljannati yawma-ithinkhayrun mustaqarran waahsanu maqeelan

اصحاب الجنة يومئذ خير مستقرا واحسن مقيلا

[YA]: The Companions of the Garden will be well, that Day, in their abode, and have the fairest of places for repose.

[RK]:The dwellers of Paradise are far better on that day; they will hear better news.

وعادا وثمودا واصحاب الرس وقرونا بين ذلك كثيرا

[YA]: As also 'Ad and Thamud, and the Companions of the Rass, and many a generation between them.

[RK]:Also `Aad, Thamoud, the inhabitants of Al-Russ, and many generations between them.
