Ya ayyuha alrrasoolu layahzunka allatheena yusariAAoona fee alkufrimina allatheena qaloo amanna bi-afwahihimwalam tu/min quloobuhum wamina allatheena hadoosammaAAoona lilkathibi sammaAAoona liqawmin akhareenalam ya/tooka yuharrifoona alkalima min baAAdi mawadiAAihiyaqooloona in ooteetum hatha fakhuthoohu wa-in lamtu/tawhu faihtharoo waman yuridi Allahufitnatahu falan tamlika lahu mina Allahi shay-an ola-ikaallatheena lam yuridi Allahu an yutahhiraquloobahum lahum fee alddunya khizyun walahum feeal-akhirati AAathabun AAatheemun

ياايها الرسول لايحزنك الذين يسارعون في الكفر من الذين قالوا امنا بافواههم ولم تؤمن قلوبهم ومن الذين هادوا سماعون للكذب سماعون لقوم اخرين لم ياتوك يحرفون الكلم من بعد مواضعه يقولون ان اوتيتم هذا فخذوه وان لم تؤتوه فاحذروا ومن يرد الله فتنته فلن تملك له من الله شيئا اولئك الذين لم يرد الله ان يطهر قلوبهم لهم في الدنيا خزي ولهم في الاخرة عذاب عظيم

[YA]: O Messenger! let not those grieve thee, who race each other into unbelief: (whether it be) among those who say "We believe" with their lips but whose hearts have no faith; or it be among the Jews,- men who will listen to any lie,- will listen even to others who have never so much as come to thee. They change the words from their (right) times and places: they say, "If ye are given this, take it, but if not, beware!" If any one's trial is intended by Allah, thou hast no authority in the least for him against Allah. For such - it is not Allah's will to purify their hearts. For them there is disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a heavy punishment.

[RK]:O you messenger, do not be saddened by those who hasten to disbelieve among those who say, "We believe," with their mouths, while their hearts do not believe. Among the Jews, some listened to lies. They listened to people who never met you, and who distorted the words out of context, then said, "If you are given this, accept it, but if you are given anything different, beware." Whomever GOD wills to divert, you can do nothing to help him against GOD. GOD does not wish to cleanse their hearts. They have incurred humiliation in this world, and in the Hereafter, they will suffer a terrible retribution.

Inna allatheena amanoo waallatheenahadoo waalssabi-oona waalnnasaraman amana biAllahi waalyawmi al-akhiriwaAAamila salihan fala khawfun AAalayhim walahum yahzanoona

ان الذين امنوا والذين هادوا والصابئون والنصاري من امن بالله واليوم الاخر وعمل صالحا فلا خوف عليهم ولاهم يحزنون

[YA]: Those who believe (in the Qur'an), those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Sabians and the Christians,- any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness,- on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

[RK]:Surely, those who believe, those who are Jewish, the converts, and the Christians; any of them who (1) believe in GOD and (2) believe in the Last Day, and (3) lead a righteous life, have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooshahadatu baynikum itha hadara ahadakumualmawtu heena alwasiyyati ithnani thawaAAadlin minkum aw akharani min ghayrikum in antum darabtumfee al-ardi faasabatkum museebatu almawti tahbisoonahumamin baAAdi alssalati fayuqsimani biAllahiini irtabtum la nashtaree bihi thamanan walaw kana thaqurba wala naktumu shahadata Allahiinna ithan lamina al-athimeena

ياايها الذين امنوا شهادة بينكم اذا حضر احدكم الموت حين الوصية اثنان ذوا عدل منكم او اخران من غيركم ان انتم ضربتم في الارض فاصابتكم مصيبة الموت تحبسونهما من بعد الصلاة فيقسمان بالله ان ارتبتم لانشتري به ثمنا ولو كان ذا قربي ولانكتم شهادة الله انا اذا لمن الاثمين

[YA]: O ye who believe! When death approaches any of you, (take) witnesses among yourselves when making bequests,- two just men of your own (brotherhood) or others from outside if ye are journeying through the earth, and the chance of death befalls you (thus). If ye doubt (their truth), detain them both after prayer, and let them both swear by Allah: "We wish not in this for any worldly gain, even though the (beneficiary) be our near relation: we shall hide not the evidence before Allah: if we do, then behold! the sin be upon us!"

[RK]:O you who believe, witnessing a will when one of you is dying shall be done by two equitable people among you. If you are traveling, then two others may do the witnessing. After observing the Contact Prayer (Salat), let the witnesses swear by GOD, to alleviate your doubts: "We will not use this to attain personal gains, even if the testator is related to us. Nor will we conceal GOD's testimony. Otherwise, we would be sinners."

Fa-in AAuthira AAala annahumaistahaqqa ithman faakharani yaqoomanimaqamahuma mina allatheena istahaqqaAAalayhimu al-awlayani fayuqsimani biAllahilashahadatuna ahaqqu min shahadatihimawama iAAtadayna inna ithan lamina alththalimeena

فان عثر علي انهما استحقا اثما فاخران يقومان مقامهما من الذين استحق عليهم الاوليان فيقسمان بالله لشهادتنا احق من شهادتهما ومااعتدينا انا اذا لمن الظالمين

[YA]: But if it gets known that these two were guilty of the sin (of perjury), let two others stand forth in their places,- nearest in kin from among those who claim a lawful right: let them swear by Allah: "We affirm that our witness is truer than that of those two, and that we have not trespassed (beyond the truth): if we did, behold! the wrong be upon us!"

[RK]:If the witnesses are found to be guilty of bias, then two others shall be asked to take their places. Choose two persons who were victimized by the first witnesses, and let them swear by GOD: "Our testimony is more truthful than theirs; we will not be biased. Otherwise, we will be transgressors."

Qala AAeesa ibnu maryama allahummarabbana anzil AAalayna ma-idatan mina alssama-itakoonu lana AAeedan li-awwalina waakhirinawaayatan minka waorzuqna waanta khayru alrraziqeena

قال عيسي ابن مريم اللهم ربنا انزل علينا مائدة من السماء تكون لنا عيدا لاولنا واخرنا واية منك وارزقنا وانت خير الرازقين

[YA]: Said Jesus the son of Mary: "O Allah our Lord! Send us from heaven a table set (with viands), that there may be for us - for the first and the last of us - a solemn festival and a sign from thee; and provide for our sustenance, for thou art the best Sustainer (of our needs)."

[RK]:Said Jesus, the son of Mary, "Our god, our Lord, send down to us a feast from the sky. Let it bring plenty for each and every one of us, and a sign from You. Provide for us; You are the best Provider."

Alam yaraw kam ahlakna min qablihimmin qarnin makkannahum fee al-ardi ma lamnumakkin lakum waarsalna alssamaa AAalayhimmidraran wajaAAalna al-anhara tajree min tahtihimfaahlaknahum bithunoobihim waansha/na minbaAAdihim qarnan akhareena

الم يروا كم اهلكنا من قبلهم من قرن مكناهم في الارض مالم نمكن لكم وارسلنا السماء عليهم مدرارا وجعلنا الانهار تجري من تحتهم فاهلكناهم بذنوبهم وانشانا من بعدهم قرنا اخرين

[YA]: See they not how many of those before them We did destroy?- generations We had established on the earth, in strength such as We have not given to you - for whom We poured out rain from the skies in abundance, and gave (fertile) streams flowing beneath their (feet): yet for their sins We destroyed them, and raised in their wake fresh generations (to succeed them).

[RK]:Have they not seen how many generations before them we have annihilated? We established them on earth more than we did for you, and we showered them with blessings, generously, and we provided them with flowing streams. We then annihilated them because of their sins, and we substituted another generation in their place.

Qul ayyu shay-in akbaru shahadatanquli Allahu shaheedun baynee wabaynakum waoohiyailayya hatha alqur-anu li-onthirakum bihiwaman balagha a-innakum latashhadoona anna maAAa Allahi alihatanokhra qul la ashhadu qul innama huwa ilahunwahidun wa-innanee baree-on mimma tushrikoona

قل اي شئ اكبر شهادة قل الله شهيد بيني وبينكم واوحي الي هذا القران لانذركم به ومن بلغ ائنكم لتشهدون ان مع الله الهة اخري قل لااشهد قل انما هو اله واحد وانني بري مما تشركون

[YA]: Say: "What thing is most weighty in evidence?" Say: "Allah is witness between me and you; This Qur'an hath been revealed to me by inspiration, that I may warn you and all whom it reaches. Can ye possibly bear witness that besides Allah there is another Allah?" Say: "Nay! I cannot bear witness!" Say: "But in truth He is the one Allah, and I truly am innocent of (your blasphemy of) joining others with Him."

[RK]:Say, "Whose testimony is the greatest?" Say, "GOD's. He is the witness between me and you that this Quran has been inspired to me, to preach it to you and whomever it reaches. Indeed, you bear witness that there are other gods beside GOD." Say, "I do not testify as you do; there is only one god, and I disown your idolatry."

Wama alhayatu alddunyailla laAAibun walahwun walalddaru al-akhiratikhayrun lillatheena yattaqoona afala taAAqiloona

وماالحياة الدنيا الا لعب ولهو وللدار الاخرة خير للذين يتقون افلا تعقلون

[YA]: What is the life of this world but play and amusement? But best is the home in the hereafter, for those who are righteous. Will ye not then understand?

[RK]:The life of this world is no more than illusion and vanity, while the abode of the Hereafter is far better for the righteous. Do you not understand?!

Wahatha kitabun anzalnahumubarakun musaddiqu allathee bayna yadayhiwalitunthira omma alqura waman hawlahawaallatheena yu/minoona bial-akhiratiyu/minoona bihi wahum AAala salatihim yuhafithoona

وهذا كتاب انزلناه مبارك مصدق الذي بين يديه ولتنذر ام القري ومن حولها والذين يؤمنون بالاخرة يؤمنون به وهم علي صلاتهم يحافظون

[YA]: And this is a Book which We have sent down, bringing blessings, and confirming (the revelations) which came before it: that thou mayest warn the mother of cities and all around her. Those who believe in the Hereafter believe in this (Book), and they are constant in guarding their prayers.

[RK]:This too is a blessed scripture that we have revealed, confirming the previous scriptures, that you may warn the most important community and all those around it. Those who believe in the Hereafter will believe in this (scripture), and will observe the Contact Prayers (Salat).

Walitasgha ilayhi af-idatuallatheena la yu/minoona bial-akhiratiwaliyardawhu waliyaqtarifoo ma hum muqtarifoona

ولتصغي اليه افئدة الذين لايؤمنون بالاخرة وليرضوه وليقترفوا ماهم مقترفون

[YA]: To such (deceit) let the hearts of those incline, who have no faith in the hereafter: let them delight in it, and let them earn from it what they may.

[RK]:This is to let the minds of those who do not believe in the Hereafter listen to such fabrications, and accept them, and thus expose their real convictions.

Warabbuka alghaniyyu thoo alrrahmatiin yasha/ yuthhibkum wayastakhlif min baAAdikum mayashao kama anshaakum min thurriyyati qawminakhareena

وربك الغني ذو الرحمة ان يشا يذهبكم ويستخلف من بعدكم مايشاء كما انشاكم من ذرية قوم اخرين

[YA]: Thy Lord is self-sufficient, full of Mercy: if it were His will, He could destroy you, and in your place appoint whom He will as your successors, even as He raised you up from the posterity of other people.

[RK]:Your Lord is the Rich One; possessor of all mercy. If He wills, He can remove you, and substitute whomever He wills in your place, just as He produced you from the progeny of other people.

Qul halumma shuhadaakumu allatheenayashhadoona anna Allaha harrama hatha fa-inshahidoo fala tashhad maAAahum wala tattabiAA ahwaaallatheena kaththaboo bi-ayatinawaallatheena la yu/minoona bial-akhiratiwahum birabbihim yaAAdiloona

قل هلم شهداءكم الذين يشهدون ان الله حرم هذا فان شهدوا فلا تشهد معهم ولاتتبع اهواء الذين كذبوا باياتنا والذين لايؤمنون بالاخرة وهم بربهم يعدلون

[YA]: Say: "Bring forward your witnesses to prove that Allah did forbid so and so." If they bring such witnesses, be not thou amongst them: Nor follow thou the vain desires of such as treat our signs as falsehoods, and such as believe not in the Hereafter: for they hold others as equal with their Guardian-Lord.

[RK]:Say, "Bring your witnesses who would testify that GOD has prohibited this or that." If they testify, do not testify with them. Nor shall you follow the opinions of those who reject our revelations, and those who disbelieve in the Hereafter, and those who stray away from their Lord.

Qul aghayra Allahi abghee rabbanwahuwa rabbu kulli shay-in wala taksibu kullu nafsin illaAAalayha wala taziru waziratun wizra okhrathumma ila rabbikum marjiAAukum fayunabbi-okum bimakuntum feehi takhtalifoona

قل اغير الله ابغي ربا وهو رب كل شئ ولاتكسب كل نفس الا عليها ولاتزر وازرة وزر اخري ثم الي ربكم مرجعكم فينبئكم بما كنتم فيه تختلفون

[YA]: Say: "Shall I seek for (my) Cherisher other than Allah, when He is the Cherisher of all things (that exist)? Every soul draws the meed of its acts on none but itself: no bearer of burdens can bear of burdens can bear the burden of another. Your goal in the end is towards Allah: He will tell you the truth of the things wherein ye disputed."

[RK]:Say, "Shall I seek other than GOD as a lord, when He is the Lord of all things? No soul benefits except from its own works, and none bears the burden of another. Ultimately, you return to your Lord, then He informs you regarding all your disputes."

Walikulli ommatin ajalun fa-itha jaaajaluhum la yasta/khiroona saAAatan walayastaqdimoona

ولكل امة اجل فاذا جاء اجلهم لايستاخرون ساعة ولايستقدمون

[YA]: To every people is a term appointed: when their term is reached, not an hour can they cause delay, nor (an hour) can they advance (it in anticipation).

[RK]:For each community, there is a predetermined life span. Once their interim comes to an end, they cannot delay it by one hour, nor advance it.

Qala odkhuloo fee omamin qad khalatmin qablikum mina aljinni waal-insi fee alnnarikullama dakhalat ommatun laAAanat okhtaha hattaitha iddarakoo feeha jameeAAan qalatokhrahum li-oolahum rabbana haola-iadalloona faatihim AAathaban diAAfanmina alnnari qala likullin diAAfunwalakin la taAAlamoona

قال ادخلوا في امم قد خلت من قبلكم من الجن والانس في النار كلما دخلت امة لعنت اختها حتي اذا اداركوا فيها جميعا قالت اخراهم لاولاهم ربنا هؤلاء اضلونا فاتهم عذابا ضعفا من النار قال لكل ضعف ولكن لاتعلمون

[YA]: He will say: "Enter ye in the company of the peoples who passed away before you - men and jinns, - into the Fire." Every time a new people enters, it curses its sister-people (that went before), until they follow each other, all into the Fire. Saith the last about the first: "Our Lord! it is these that misled us: so give them a double penalty in the Fire." He will say: "Doubled for all" : but this ye do not understand.

[RK]:He will say, "Enter with the previous communities of jinns and humans into Hell." Every time a group enters, they will curse their ancestral group. Once they are all in it, the latest one will say of the previous one, "Our Lord, these are the ones who misled us. Give them double the retribution of Hell." He will say, "Each receives double, but you do not know."

Waqalat oolahum li-okhrahumfama kana lakum AAalayna min fadlinfathooqoo alAAathaba bima kuntum taksiboona

وقالت اولاهم لاخراهم فماكان لكم علينا من فضل فذوقوا العذاب بما كنتم تكسبون

[YA]: Then the first will say to the last: "See then! No advantage have ye over us; so taste ye of the penalty for all that ye did !"

[RK]:The ancestral group will say to the later group, "Since you had an advantage over us, taste the retribution for your own sins."

Allatheena yasuddoona AAansabeeli Allahi wayabghoonaha AAiwajan wahum bial-akhiratikafiroona

الذين يصدون عن سبيل الله ويبغونها عوجا وهم بالاخرة كافرون

[YA]: "Those who would hinder (men) from the path of Allah and would seek in it something crooked: they were those who denied the Hereafter."

[RK]:"who repel from the path of GOD, and strive to make it crooked, and, with regard to the Hereafter, they are disbelievers."

Waallatheena kaththaboobi-ayatina waliqa-i al-akhiratihabitat aAAmaluhum hal yujzawna illama kanoo yaAAmaloona

والذين كذبوا باياتنا ولقاء الاخرة حبطت اعمالهم هل يجزون الا ما كانوا يعملون

[YA]: Those who reject Our signs and the meeting in the Hereafter,- vain are their deeds: Can they expect to be rewarded except as they have wrought?

[RK]:Those who reject our revelations and the meeting of the Hereafter, their works are nullified. Are they requited only for what they committed?

Waoktub lana fee hathihialddunya hasanatan wafee al-akhiratiinna hudna ilayka qala AAathabee oseebubihi man ashao warahmatee wasiAAat kulla shay-infasaaktubuha lillatheena yattaqoona wayu/toona alzzakatawaallatheena hum bi-ayatinayu/minoona

واكتب لنا في هذه الدنيا حسنة وفي الاخرة انا هدنااليك قال عذابي اصيب به من اشاء ورحمتي وسعت كل شئ فساكتبها للذين يتقون ويؤتون الزكاة والذين هم باياتنا يؤمنون

[YA]: "And ordain for us that which is good, in this life and in the Hereafter: for we have turned unto Thee." He said: "With My punishment I visit whom I will; but My mercy extendeth to all things. That (mercy) I shall ordain for those who do right, and practise regular charity, and those who believe in Our signs;-

[RK]:"And decree for us righteousness in this world, and in the Hereafter. We have repented to You." He said, "My retribution befalls whomever I will. But My mercy encompasses all things. However, I will specify it for those who (1) lead a righteous life, (2) give the obligatory charity (Zakat), (3) believe in our revelations, and

Fakhalafa min baAAdihim khalfun warithooalkitaba ya/khuthoona AAarada hathaal-adna wayaqooloona sayughfaru lana wa-in ya/tihimAAaradun mithluhu ya/khuthoohu alam yu/khathAAalayhim meethaqu alkitabi an la yaqoolooAAala Allahi illa alhaqqa wadarasoo mafeehi waalddaru al-akhiratu khayrun lillatheenayattaqoona afala taAAqiloona

فخلف من بعدهم خلف ورثوا الكتاب ياخذون عرض هذا الادني ويقولون سيغفر لنا وان ياتهم عرض مثله ياخذوه الم يؤخذ عليهم ميثاق الكتاب ان لايقولوا علي الله الا الحق ودرسوا مافيه والدار الاخرة خير للذين يتقون افلا تعقلون

[YA]: After them succeeded an (evil) generation: They inherited the Book, but they chose (for themselves) the vanities of this world, saying (for excuse): "(Everything) will be forgiven us." (Even so), if similar vanities came their way, they would (again) seize them. Was not the covenant of the Book taken from them, that they would not ascribe to Allah anything but the truth? and they study what is in the Book. But best for the righteous is the home in the Hereafter. Will ye not understand?

[RK]:Subsequent to them, He substituted new generations who inherited the scripture. But they opted for the worldly life instead, saying, "We will be forgiven." But then they continued to opt for the materials of this world. Did they not make a covenant to uphold the scripture, and not to say about GOD except the truth? Did they not study the scripture? Certainly, the abode of the Hereafter is far better for those who maintain righteousness. Do you not understand?

WaaAAiddoo lahum ma istataAAtummin quwwatin wamin ribati alkhayli turhiboona bihiAAaduwwa Allahi waAAaduwwakum waakhareena mindoonihim la taAAlamoonahumu Allahu yaAAlamuhum wamatunfiqoo min shay-in fee sabeeli Allahi yuwaffa ilaykumwaantum la tuthlamoona

واعدوا لهم مااستطعتم من قوة ومن رباط الخيل ترهبون به عدو الله وعدوكم واخرين من دونهم لاتعلمونهم الله يعلمهم وماتنفقوا من شئ في سبيل الله يوف اليكم وانتم لاتظلمون

[YA]: Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies, and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom Allah doth know. Whatever ye shall spend in the cause of Allah, shall be repaid unto you, and ye shall not be treated unjustly.

[RK]:You shall prepare for them all the power you can muster, and all the equipment you can mobilize, that you may frighten the enemies of GOD, your enemies, as well as others who are not known to you; GOD knows them. Whatever you spend in the cause of GOD will be repaid to you generously, without the least injustice.

Ma kana linabiyyin an yakoonalahu asra hatta yuthkhina fee al-arditureedoona AAarada alddunya waAllahuyureedu al-akhirata waAllahu AAazeezun hakeemun

ما كان لنبي ان يكون له اسري حتي يثخن في الارض تريدون عرض الدنيا والله يريد الاخرة والله عزيز حكيم

[YA]: It is not fitting for a prophet that he should have prisoners of war until he hath thoroughly subdued the land. Ye look for the temporal goods of this world; but Allah looketh to the Hereafter: And Allah is Exalted in might, Wise.

[RK]:No prophet shall acquire captives, unless he participates in the fighting. You people are seeking the materials of this world, while GOD advocates the Hereafter. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.

Innama yaAAmuru masajida Allahiman amana biAllahi waalyawmi al-akhiriwaaqama alssalata waataalzzakata walam yakhsha illa AllahafaAAasa ola-ika an yakoonoo mina almuhtadeena

انما يعمر مساجد الله من امن بالله واليوم الاخر واقام الصلاة واتي الزكاة ولم يخشي الا الله فعسي اولئك ان يكونوا من المهتدين

[YA]: The mosques of Allah shall be visited and maintained by such as believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish regular prayers, and practise regular charity, and fear none (at all) except Allah. It is they who are expected to be on true guidance.

[RK]:The only people to frequent GOD's masjids are those who believe in GOD and the Last Day, and observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and do not fear except GOD. These will surely be among the guided ones.

AjaAAaltum siqayata alhajjiwaAAimarata almasjidi alharami kaman amanabiAllahi waalyawmi al-akhiri wajahadafee sabeeli Allahi la yastawoona AAinda AllahiwaAllahu la yahdee alqawma alththalimeena

اجعلتم سقاية الحاج وعمارة المسجد الحرام كمن امن بالله واليوم الاخر وجاهد في سبيل الله لايستوون عند الله والله لايهدي القوم الظالمين

[YA]: Do ye make the giving of drink to pilgrims, or the maintenance of the Sacred Mosque, equal to (the pious service of) those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and strive with might and main in the cause of Allah? They are not comparable in the sight of Allah: and Allah guides not those who do wrong.

[RK]:Have you considered the watering of the pilgrims and caring for the Sacred Masjid a substitute for believing in GOD and the Last Day, and striving in the cause of GOD? They are not equal in the sight of GOD. GOD does not guide the wicked people.

Qatiloo allatheena layu/minoona biAllahi wala bialyawmial-akhiri wala yuharrimoona ma harramaAllahu warasooluhu wala yadeenoona deena alhaqqimina allatheena ootoo alkitaba hattayuAAtoo aljizyata AAan yadin wahum saghiroona

قاتلوا الذين لايؤمنون بالله ولاباليوم الاخر ولايحرمون ماحرم الله ورسوله ولايدينون دين الحق من الذين اوتوا الكتاب حتي يعطوا الجزية عن يد وهم صاغرون

[YA]: Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

[RK]:You shall fight back against those who do not believe in GOD, nor in the Last Day, nor do they prohibit what GOD and His messenger have prohibited, nor do they abide by the religion of truth - among those who received the scripture - until they pay the due tax, willingly or unwillingly.

ياايها الذين امنوا مالكم اذا قيل لكم انفروا في سبيل الله اثاقلتم الي الارض ارضيتم بالحياة الدنيا من الاخرة فما متاع الحياة الدنيا في الاخرة الا قليل

[YA]: O ye who believe! what is the matter with you, that, when ye are asked to go forth in the cause of Allah, ye cling heavily to the earth? Do ye prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter? But little is the comfort of this life, as compared with the Hereafter.

[RK]:O you who believe, when you are told, "Mobilize in the cause of GOD," why do you become heavily attached to the ground? Have you chosen this worldly life in place of the Hereafter? The materials of this world, compared to the Hereafter, are nil.

لايستاذنك الذين يؤمنون بالله واليوم الاخر ان يجاهدوا باموالهم وانفسهم والله عليم بالمتقين

[YA]: Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day ask thee for no exemption from fighting with their goods and persons. And Allah knoweth well those who do their duty.

[RK]:Those who truly believe in GOD and the Last Day do not ask your permission to evade the opportunity to strive with their money and their lives. GOD is fully aware of the righteous.

Innama yasta/thinuka allatheenala yu/minoona biAllahi waalyawmi al-akhiriwairtabat quloobuhum fahum fee raybihimyataraddadoona

انما يستاذنك الذين لايؤمنون بالله واليوم الاخر وارتابت قلوبهم فهم في ريبهم يترددون

[YA]: Only those ask thee for exemption who believe not in Allah and the Last Day, and whose hearts are in doubt, so that they are tossed in their doubts to and fro.

[RK]:The only people who wish to be excused are those who do not really believe in GOD and the Last Day. Their hearts are full of doubt, and their doubts cause them to waver.

Kaallatheena min qablikum kanooashadda minkum quwwatan waakthara amwalan waawladanfaistamtaAAoo bikhalaqihim faistamtaAAtumbikhalaqikum kama istamtaAAa allatheena minqablikum bikhalaqihim wakhudtum kaallatheekhadoo ola-ika habitat aAAmaluhumfee alddunya waal-akhirati waola-ikahumu alkhasiroona

كالذين من قبلكم كانوا اشد منكم قوة واكثر اموالا واولادا فاستمتعوا بخلاقهم فاستمتعتم بخلاقكم كما استمتع الذين من قبلكم بخلاقهم وخضتم كالذي خاضوا اولئك حبطت اعمالهم في الدنيا والاخرة واولئك هم الخاسرون

[YA]: As in the case of those before you: they were mightier than you in power, and more flourishing in wealth and children. They had their enjoyment of their portion: and ye have of yours, as did those before you; and ye indulge in idle talk as they did. They!- their work are fruitless in this world and in the Hereafter, and they will lose (all spiritual good).

[RK]:Some of those before you were stronger than you, and possessed more money and children. They became preoccupied with their material possessions. Similarly, you have become preoccupied with your material possessions, just like those before you have become preoccupied. You have become totally heedless, just as they were heedless. Such are the people who nullify their works, both in this world and in the Hereafter; they are the losers.

Yahlifoona biAllahi maqaloo walaqad qaloo kalimata alkufri wakafaroobaAAda islamihim wahammoo bima lam yanaloowama naqamoo illa an aghnahumu Allahuwarasooluhu min fadlihi fa-in yatooboo yaku khayran lahumwa-in yatawallaw yuAAaththibhumu Allahu AAathabanaleeman fee alddunya waal-akhiratiwama lahum fee al-ardi min waliyyin wala naseerin

يحلفون بالله ماقالوا ولقد قالوا كلمة الكفر وكفروا بعد اسلامهم وهموا بما لم ينالوا ومانقموا الا ان اغناهم الله ورسوله من فضله فان يتوبوا يك خيرا لهم وان يتولوا يعذبهم الله عذابا اليما في الدنيا والاخرة ومالهم في الارض من ولي ولانصير

[YA]: They swear by Allah that they said nothing (evil), but indeed they uttered blasphemy, and they did it after accepting Islam; and they meditated a plot which they were unable to carry out: this revenge of theirs was (their) only return for the bounty with which Allah and His Messenger had enriched them! If they repent, it will be best for them; but if they turn back (to their evil ways), Allah will punish them with a grievous penalty in this life and in the Hereafter: They shall have none on earth to protect or help them.

[RK]:They swear by GOD that they never said it, although they have uttered the word of disbelief; they have disbelieved after becoming submitters. In fact, they gave up what they never had. They have rebelled even though GOD and His messenger have showered them with His grace and provisions. If they repent, it would be best for them. But if they turn away, GOD will commit them to painful retribution in this life and in the Hereafter. They will find no one on earth to be their lord and master.

Wamina al-aAArabi man yu/minu biAllahiwaalyawmi al-akhiri wayattakhithu mayunfiqu qurubatin AAinda Allahi wasalawatialrrasooli ala innaha qurbatun lahumsayudkhiluhumu Allahu fee rahmatihi inna Allahaghafoorun raheemun

ومن الاعراب من يؤمن بالله واليوم الاخر ويتخذ ماينفق قربات عند الله وصلوات الرسول الا انها قربة لهم سيدخلهم الله في رحمته ان الله غفور رحيم

[YA]: But some of the desert Arabs believe in Allah and the Last Day, and look on their payments as pious gifts bringing them nearer to Allah and obtaining the prayers of the Messenger. Aye, indeed they bring them nearer (to Him): soon will Allah admit them to His Mercy: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

[RK]:Other Arabs do believe in GOD and the Last Day, and consider their spending to be a means towards GOD, and a means of supporting the messenger. Indeed, it will bring them nearer; GOD will admit them into His mercy. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

Waakharoona iAAtarafoo bithunoobihimkhalatoo AAamalan salihan waakharasayyi-an AAasa Allahu an yatooba AAalayhim inna Allahaghafoorun raheemun

واخرون اعترفوا بذنوبهم خلطوا عملا صالحا واخر سيئا عسي الله ان يتوب عليهم ان الله غفور رحيم

[YA]: Others (there are who) have acknowledged their wrong-doings: they have mixed an act that was good with another that was evil. Perhaps Allah will turn unto them (in Mercy): for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

[RK]:There are others who have confessed their sins; they have mixed good deeds with bad deeds. GOD will redeem them, for GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

واخرون مرجون لامر الله اما يعذبهم واما يتوب عليهم والله عليم حكيم

[YA]: There are (yet) others, held in suspense for the command of Allah, whether He will punish them, or turn in mercy to them: and Allah is All-Knowing, Wise.

[RK]:Others are waiting for GOD's decision; He may punish them, or He may redeem them. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

DaAAwahum feeha subhanakaallahumma watahiyyatuhum feeha salamunwaakhiru daAAwahum ani alhamdu lillahirabbi alAAalameena

دعواهم فيها سبحانك اللهم وتحيتهم فيها سلام واخر دعواهم ان الحمد لله رب العالمين

[YA]: (This will be) their cry therein: "Glory to Thee, O Allah!" And "Peace" will be their greeting therein! and the close of their cry will be: "Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds!"

[RK]:Their prayer therein is: "Be You glorified, our god," their greeting therein is, "Peace," and their ultimate prayer is: "Praise be to GOD, Lord of the universe."

Qul la amliku linafsee darranwala nafAAan illa ma shaa Allahulikulli ommatin ajalun itha jaa ajaluhum falayasta/khiroona saAAatan wala yastaqdimoona

قل لااملك لنفسي ضرا ولانفعا الا ماشاء الله لكل امة اجل اذا جاء اجلهم فلا يستاخرون ساعة ولايستقدمون

[YA]: Say: "I have no power over any harm or profit to myself except as Allah willeth. To every people is a term appointed: when their term is reached, not an hour can they cause delay, nor (an hour) can they advance (it in anticipation)."

[RK]:Say, "I possess no power to harm myself, or benefit myself; only what GOD wills takes place." Each community has a predetermined life span. Once their interim comes to an end, they cannot delay it by one hour, nor advance it.

Lahumu albushra fee alhayatialddunya wafee al-akhirati latabdeela likalimati Allahi thalika huwaalfawzu alAAatheemu

لهم البشري في الحياة الدنيا وفي الاخرة لاتبديل لكلمات الله ذلك هو الفوز العظيم

[YA]: For them are glad tidings, in the life of the present and in the Hereafter; no change can there be in the words of Allah. This is indeed the supreme felicity.

[RK]:For them, joy and happiness in this world, as well as in the Hereafter. This is GOD's unchangeable law. Such is the greatest triumph.

Wala-in akhkharna AAanhumu alAAathabaila ommatin maAAdoodatin layaqoolunna ma yahbisuhuala yawma ya/teehim laysa masroofan AAanhum wahaqabihim ma kanoo bihi yastahzi-oona

ولئن اخرنا عنهم العذاب الي امة معدودة ليقولن مايحبسه الا يوم ياتيهم ليس مصروفا عنهم وحاق بهم ما كانوا يستهزؤون

[YA]: If We delay the penalty for them for a definite term, they are sure to say, "What keeps it back?" Ah! On the day it (actually) reaches them, nothing will turn it away from them, and they will be completely encircled by that which they used to mock at!

[RK]:And if we delay the retribution they have incurred - for we reserve it for a specific community - they say, "What is keeping Him?" In fact, once it comes to them, nothing can stop it, and their mocking will come back to haunt them.

Ola-ika allatheena laysa lahumfee al-akhirati illa alnnaru wahabitama sanaAAoo feeha wabatilun makanoo yaAAmaloona

اولئك الذين ليس لهم في الاخرة الا النار وحبط ماصنعوا فيها وباطل ما كانوا يعملون

[YA]: They are those for whom there is nothing in the Hereafter but the Fire: vain are the designs they frame therein, and of no effect and the deeds that they do!

[RK]:It is they who gave up their share in the Hereafter, and, consequently, Hell is their lot. All their works are in vain; everything they have done is nullified.

Allatheena yasuddoona AAansabeeli Allahi wayabghoonaha AAiwajan wahum bial-akhiratihum kafiroona

الذي يصدون عن سبيل الله ويبغونها عوجا وهم بالاخرة هم كافرون

[YA]: "Those who would hinder (men) from the path of Allah and would seek in it something crooked: these were they who denied the Hereafter!"

[RK]:They repel from the way of GOD and seek to make it crooked, and they are disbelievers in the Hereafter.

لاجرم انهم في الاخرة هم الاخسرون

[YA]: Without a doubt, these are the very ones who will lose most in the Hereafter!

[RK]:There is no doubt that, in the Hereafter, they will be the worst losers.

Inna fee thalika laayatanliman khafa AAathaba al-akhirati thalikayawmun majmooAAun lahu alnnasu wathalikayawmun mashhoodun

ان في ذلك لاية لمن خاف عذاب الاخرة ذلك يوم مجموع له الناس وذلك يوم مشهود

[YA]: In that is a Sign for those who fear the penalty of the Hereafter: that is a Day for which mankind will be gathered together: that will be a Day of Testimony.

[RK]:This should be a lesson for those who fear the retribution of the Hereafter. That is a day when all the people will be summoned - a day to be witnessed.

Wadakhala maAAahu alssijna fatayaniqala ahaduhuma innee aranee aAAsirukhamran waqala al-akharu innee aranee ahmilufawqa ra/see khubzan ta/kulu alttayru minhu nabbi/nabita/weelihi inna naraka mina almuhsineena

ودخل معه السجن فتيان قال احدهما اني اراني اعصر خمرا وقال الاخر اني اراني احمل فوق راسي خبزا تاكل الطير منه نبئنا بتاويله انا نراك من المحسنين

[YA]: Now with him there came into the prison two young men. Said one of them: "I see myself (in a dream) pressing wine." said the other: "I see myself (in a dream) carrying bread on my head, and birds are eating, thereof." "Tell us" (they said) "The truth and meaning thereof: for we see thou art one that doth good (to all)."

[RK]:Two young men were in the prison with him. One of them said, "I saw (in my dream) that I was making wine," and the other said, "I saw myself carrying bread on my head, from which the birds were eating. Inform us of the interpretation of these dreams. We see that you are righteous."

Qala la ya/teekuma taAAamunturzaqanihi illa nabba/tukuma bita/weelihiqabla an ya/tiyakuma thalikuma mimmaAAallamanee rabbee innee taraktu millata qawmin layu/minoona biAllahi wahum bial-akhiratihum kafiroona

قال لاياتيكما طعام ترزقانه الا نباتكما بتاويله قبل ان ياتيكما ذلكما مما علمني ربي اني تركت ملة قوم لايؤمنون بالله وهم بالاخرة هم كافرون

[YA]: He said: "Before any food comes (in due course) to feed either of you, I will surely reveal to you the truth and meaning of this ere it befall you: that is part of the (duty) which my Lord hath taught me. I have (I assure you) abandoned the ways of a people that believe not in Allah and that (even) deny the Hereafter.

[RK]:He said, "If any food is provided to you, I can inform you about it before you receive it. This is some of the knowledge bestowed upon me by my Lord. I have forsaken the religion of people who do not believe in GOD, and with regard to the Hereafter, they are really disbelievers.

Ya sahibayi alssijniamma ahadukuma fayasqee rabbahu khamranwaamma al-akharu fayuslabu fata/kulu alttayrumin ra/sihi qudiya al-amru allathee feehi tastaftiyani

ياصاحبي السجن اما احدكما فيسقي ربه خمرا واما الاخر فيصلب فتاكل الطير من راسه قضي الامر الذي فيه تستفتيان

[YA]: "O my two companions of the prison! As to one of you, he will pour out the wine for his lord to drink: as for the other, he will hang from the cross, and the birds will eat from off his head. (so) hath been decreed that matter whereof ye twain do enquire"...

[RK]:"O my prison mates, one of you will be the wine butler for his lord, while the other will be crucified - the birds will eat from his head. This settles the matter about which you have inquired."

Waqala almaliku innee arasabAAa baqaratin simanin ya/kuluhunna sabAAun AAijafunwasabAAa sunbulatin khudrin waokhara yabisatinya ayyuha almalao aftoonee fee ru/yaya inkuntum lilrru/ya taAAburoona

وقال الملك اني اري سبع بقرات سمان ياكلهن سبع عجاف وسبع سنبلات خضر واخر يابسات ياايها الملا افتوني في رؤياي ان كنتم للرؤيا تعبرون

[YA]: The king (of Egypt) said: "I do see (in a vision) seven fat kine, whom seven lean ones devour, and seven green ears of corn, and seven (others) withered. O ye chiefs! Expound to me my vision if it be that ye can interpret visions."

[RK]:The king said, "I saw seven fat cows being devoured by seven skinny cows, and seven green spikes (of wheat), and others shriveled. O my elders, advise me regarding my dream, if you know how to interpret the dreams."

Yoosufu ayyuha alssiddeequaftina fee sabAAi baqaratin simaninya/kuluhunna sabAAun AAijafun wasabAAi sunbulatinkhudrin waokhara yabisatin laAAallee arjiAAuila alnnasi laAAallahum yaAAlamoona

يوسف ايها الصديق افتنا في سبع بقرات سمان ياكلهن سبع عجاف وسبع سنبلات خضر واخر يابسات لعلي ارجع الي الناس لعلهم يعلمون

[YA]: "O Joseph!" (he said) "O man of truth! Expound to us (the dream) of seven fat kine whom seven lean ones devour, and of seven green ears of corn and (seven) others withered: that I may return to the people, and that they may understand."

[RK]:"Joseph my friend, inform us about seven fat cows being devoured by seven skinny cows, and seven green spikes, and others shriveled. I wish to go back with some information for the people."

Walaajru al-akhirati khayrun lillatheenaamanoo wakanoo yattaqoona

ولاجر الاخرة خير للذين امنوا وكانوا يتقون

[YA]: But verily the reward of the Hereafter is the best, for those who believe, and are constant in righteousness.

[RK]:Additionally, the reward in the Hereafter is even better for those who believe and lead a righteous life.
