| [YA]: Such are they from whom We shall accept the best of their deeds and pass by their ill deeds: (They shall be) among the Companions of the Garden: a promise! of truth, which was made to them (in this life). [RK]:It is from these that we accept the righteous works, and overlook their sins. They have deserved Paradise. This is the truthful promise that is promised to them. | ||||

| [YA]: Such are they against whom is proved the sentence among the previous generations of Jinns and men, that have passed away; for they will be (utterly) lost. [RK]:Such are the ones stamped as disbelievers among every generation of jinns and humans; they are losers. | ||||

| [YA]: And on the Day that the Unbelievers will be placed before the Fire, (It will be said to them): "Ye received your good things in the life of the world, and ye took your pleasure out of them: but today shall ye be recompensed with a Penalty of humiliation: for that ye were arrogant on earth without just cause, and that ye (ever) transgressed." [RK]:The day will come when those who disbelieved will be introduced to the hellfire: "You have wasted the good chances given to you during your worldly life, and you rejoiced in them. Consequently, today you incur a shameful retribution as a requital for the arrogance you committed on earth without any basis, and for your evil works." | ||||

| [YA]: And We had firmly established them in a (prosperity and) power which We have not given to you (ye Quraish!) and We had endowed them with (faculties of) hearing, seeing, heart and intellect: but of no profit to them were their (faculties of) hearing, sight, and heart and intellect, when they went on rejecting the Signs of Allah; and they were (completely) encircled by that which they used to mock at! [RK]:We had established them in the same way as we established you, and provided them with hearing, eyes, and minds. But their hearing, eyes, and minds did not help them at all. This is because they decided to disregard GOD's revelations. Thus, the prophecies and warnings that they ridiculed have caused their doom. | ||||

| [YA]: Why then was no help forthcoming to them from those whom they worshipped as gods, besides Allah, as a means of access (to Allah)? Nay, they left them in the lurch: but that was their falsehood and their invention. [RK]:Why then did the idols they set up to bring them closer to GOD fail to help them? Instead, they abandoned them. Such were the false gods they idolized; such were the innovations they fabricated. | ||||

| [YA]: And on the Day that the Unbelievers will be placed before the Fire, (they will be asked,) "Is this not the Truth?" they will say, "Yea, by our Lord!" (One will say:) "Then taste ye the Penalty, for that ye were wont to deny (Truth)!" [RK]:The day the disbelievers are introduced to the Hellfire, they will be asked, "Is this not the truth?" They will answer, "Yes indeed, by our Lord." He will say, "Then suffer the retribution for your disbelief." | ||||

| [YA]: Therefore patiently persevere, as did (all) messengers of inflexible purpose; and be in no haste about the (Unbelievers). On the Day that they see the (Punishment) promised them, (it will be) as if they had not tarried more than an hour in a single day. (Thine but) to proclaim the Message: but shall any be destroyed except those who transgress? [RK]:Therefore, be patient like the messengers before you who possessed strength and resorted to patience. Do not be in a hurry to see the retribution that will inevitably come to them. The day they see it, it will seem as if they lasted one hour of the day. This is a proclamation: Is it not the wicked who are consistently annihilated? | ||||

| [YA]: Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the End of those before them (who did evil)? Allah brought utter destruction on them, and similar (fates await) those who reject Allah. [RK]:Did they not roam the earth and see the consequences for those before them? GOD destroyed their works; all disbelievers will suffer the same fate. | ||||

| [YA]: Is then one who is on a clear (Path) from his Lord, no better than one to whom the evil of his conduct seems pleasing, and such as follow their own lusts? [RK]:Are those enlightened by their Lord the same as those whose evil works are adorned in their eyes, and they follow their own opinions? | ||||

| [YA]: Were it to obey and say what is just, and when a matter is resolved on, it were best for them if they were true to Allah. [RK]:Obedience and righteous utterances are expected of them. If only they showed confidence in GOD, when mobilization was called for, it would have been better for them. | ||||

| [YA]: Behold, ye are those invited to spend (of your substance) in the Way of Allah: But among you are some that are niggardly. But any who are niggardly are so at the expense of their own souls. But Allah is free of all wants, and it is ye that are needy. If ye turn back (from the Path), He will substitute in your stead another people; then they would not be like you! [RK]:You are invited to spend in the cause of GOD, but some of you turn stingy. The stingy are stingy towards their own souls. GOD is Rich, while you are poor. If you turn away, He will substitute other people in your place, and they will not be like you. | ||||

| [YA]: It is He Who sent down tranquillity into the hearts of the Believers, that they may add faith to their faith;- for to Allah belong the Forces of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is Full of Knowledge and Wisdom;- [RK]:He is the One who places contentment into the hearts of believers to augment more faith, in addition to their faith. To GOD belongs all forces of the heavens and the earth. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise. | ||||

| [YA]: That He may admit the men and women who believe, to Gardens beneath which rivers flow, to dwell therein for aye, and remove their ills from them;- and that is, in the sight of Allah, the highest achievement (for man),- [RK]:He will certainly admit the believing men and women into gardens with flowing streams, wherein they abide forever. He will remit their sins. This is, in the sight of GOD, a great triumph. | ||||

| [YA]: For to Allah belong the Forces of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom. [RK]:To GOD belongs all the forces in the heavens and the earth. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise. | ||||

| [YA]: The desert Arabs who lagged behind will say to thee: "We were engaged in (looking after) our flocks and herds, and our families: do thou then ask forgiveness for us." They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say: "Who then has any power at all (to intervene) on your behalf with Allah, if His Will is to give you some loss or to give you some profit? But Allah is well acquainted with all that ye do. [RK]:The sedentary Arabs who stay behind will say, "We have been preoccupied with our money and our families, so ask forgiveness for us!" They utter with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say, "Who can protect you from GOD, if He willed any adversity for you, or if He willed any blessing for you?" GOD is fully Cognizant of everything you do. | ||||

| [YA]: "Nay, ye thought that the Messenger and the Believers would never return to their families; this seemed pleasing in your hearts, and ye conceived an evil thought, for ye are a people lost (in wickedness)." [RK]:You secretly believed that the messenger and the believers will be defeated and never come back to their families, and this was firmly established in your hearts. You harbored evil thoughts and turned into wicked people. | ||||

| [YA]: To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth: He forgives whom He wills, and He punishes whom He wills: but Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. [RK]:To GOD belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. He forgives whomever He wills, and punishes whomever He wills. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful. | ||||

| [YA]: Those who lagged behind (will say), when ye (are free to) march and take booty (in war): "Permit us to follow you." They wish to change Allah's decree: Say: "Not thus will ye follow us: Allah has already declared (this) beforehand": then they will say, "But ye are jealous of us." Nay, but little do they understand (such things). [RK]:The sedentary who stay behind will say, when you are expected to collect spoils of war, "Let us follow you to share in this!" They thus wish to alter GOD's words. Say, "You will not follow us. This is GOD's decision." They will then say, "You must be envious of us (for staying behind)." Indeed, they rarely understood anything. | ||||

| [YA]: And many gains will they acquire (besides): and Allah is Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom. [RK]:Additionally, they gained many spoils. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise. | ||||

| [YA]: And other gains (there are), which are not within your power, but which Allah has compassed: and Allah has power over all things. [RK]:As for the group that you could not possibly defeat, GOD took care of them; GOD is Omnipotent. | ||||

| [YA]: And it is He Who has restrained their hands from you and your hands from them in the midst of Makka, after that He gave you the victory over them. And Allah sees well all that ye do. [RK]:He is the One who withheld their hands of aggression against you, and withheld your hands of aggression against them in the valley of Mecca, after He had granted you victory over them. GOD is Seer of everything you do. | ||||

| [YA]: While the Unbelievers got up in their hearts heat and cant - the heat and cant of ignorance,- Allah sent down His Tranquillity to his Messenger and to the Believers, and made them stick close to the command of self-restraint; and well were they entitled to it and worthy of it. And Allah has full knowledge of all things. [RK]:While those who disbelieved were enraged, and their hearts were filled with the pride of the days of ignorance, GOD blessed His messenger and the believers with peaceful contentment, and directed them to uphold the word of righteousness. This is what they well deserved. GOD is fully aware of all things. | ||||

| [YA]: If only they had patience until thou couldst come out to them, it would be best for them: but Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. [RK]:Had they been patient until you came out to them, it would have been better for them. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful. | ||||

| [YA]: O ye who believe! Let not some men among you laugh at others: It may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): Nor let some women laugh at others: It may be that the (latter are better than the (former): Nor defame nor be sarcastic to each other, nor call each other by (offensive) nicknames: Ill-seeming is a name connoting wickedness, (to be used of one) after he has believed: And those who do not desist are (indeed) doing wrong. [RK]:O you who believe, no people shall ridicule other people, for they may be better than they. Nor shall any women ridicule other women, for they may be better than they. Nor shall you mock one another, or make fun of your names. Evil indeed is the reversion to wickedness after attaining faith. Anyone who does not repent after this, these are the transgressors. | ||||

| [YA]: They impress on thee as a favour that they have embraced Islam. Say, "Count not your Islam as a favour upon me: Nay, Allah has conferred a favour upon you that He has guided you to the faith, if ye be true and sincere. [RK]:They act as if they are doing you a favor by embracing Submission! Say, "You are not doing me any favors by embracing Submission. GOD is the One who is doing you a great favor by guiding you to the faith, if you are sincere." | ||||

| [YA]: "What! When we die and become dust, (shall we live again?) That is a (sort of) return far (from our understanding)." [RK]:"After we die and become dust; this is impossible." | ||||

| [YA]: His Companion will say: "Our Lord! I did not make him transgress, but he was (himself) far astray." [RK]:His companion said, "Our Lord, I did not mislead him; he was far astray." | ||||

| [YA]: Verily in this is a Message for any that has a heart and understanding or who gives ear and earnestly witnesses (the truth). [RK]:This should be a lesson for everyone who possesses a mind, or is able to hear and witness. | ||||

| [YA]: "Taste ye your trial! This is what ye used to ask to be hastened!" [RK]:Taste the retribution; this is what you used to challenge. | ||||

| [YA]: Taking joy in the things which their Lord gives them, because, before then, they lived a good life. [RK]:They receive their Lord's rewards, for they used to be pious. | ||||

| [YA]: They were in the habit of sleeping but little by night, [RK]:Rarely did they sleep the whole night. | ||||

| [YA]: Then We evacuated those of the Believers who were there, [RK]:We then delivered all the believers. | ||||

| [YA]: Then they could not even stand (on their feet), nor could they help themselves. [RK]:They could never get up, nor were they helped. | ||||

| [YA]: So were the People of Noah before them for they wickedly transgressed. [RK]:And the people of Noah before that; they were wicked people. | ||||

| [YA]: "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! [RK]:This is the Fire in which you used to disbelieve. | ||||

| [YA]: "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." [RK]:Suffer the burning. Whether you are patient or impatient, it will be the same for you. This is the just requital for what you did. | ||||

| [YA]: (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." [RK]:Eat and drink happily, in return for your works. | ||||

| [YA]: "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" [RK]:"We used to implore Him; He is the Most Kind, Most Merciful." | ||||

| [YA]: Let them then produce a recital like unto it,- If (it be) they speak the truth! [RK]:Let them produce a Hadith like this, if they are truthful. | ||||
