[YA]: No son did Allah beget, nor is there any god along with Him: (if there were many gods), behold, each god would have taken away what he had created, and some would have lorded it over others! Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the (sort of) things they attribute to Him! [RK]:GOD has never begotten a son. Nor was there ever any other god beside Him. Otherwise, each god would have declared independence with his creations, and they would have competed with each other for dominance. GOD be glorified; far above their claims. | ||||

[YA]: "Were not My Signs rehearsed to you, and ye did but treat them as falsehood?" [RK]:Were not My revelations recited to you, and you kept on rejecting them? | ||||

[YA]: He will say: "Ye stayed not but a little,- if ye had only known! [RK]:He said, "In fact, you stayed but a brief interim, if you only knew. | ||||

[YA]: The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment. [RK]:The adulteress and the adulterer you shall whip each of them a hundred lashes. Do not be swayed by pity from carrying out GOD's law, if you truly believe in GOD and the Last Day. And let a group of believers witness their penalty. | ||||

[YA]: And the fifth (oath) (should be) that they solemnly invoke the curse of Allah on themselves if they tell a lie. [RK]:The fifth oath shall be to incur GOD's condemnation upon him, if he was lying. | ||||

[YA]: On the Day when their tongues, their hands, and their feet will bear witness against them as to their actions. [RK]:The day will come when their own tongues, hands, and feet will bear witness to everything they had done. | ||||

[YA]: Marry those among you who are single, or the virtuous ones among yourselves, male or female: if they are in poverty, Allah will give them means out of His grace: for Allah encompasseth all, and he knoweth all things. [RK]:You shall encourage those of you who are single to get married. They may marry the righteous among your male and female servants, if they are poor. GOD will enrich them from His grace. GOD is Bounteous, Knower. | ||||

[YA]: Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The Parable of His Light is as if there were a Niche and within it a Lamp: the Lamp enclosed in Glass: the glass as it were a brilliant star: Lit from a blessed Tree, an Olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil is well-nigh luminous, though fire scarce touched it: Light upon Light! Allah doth guide whom He will to His Light: Allah doth set forth Parables for men: and Allah doth know all things. [RK]:GOD is the light of the heavens and the earth. The allegory of His light is that of a concave mirror behind a lamp that is placed inside a glass container. The glass container is like a bright, pearl-like star. The fuel thereof is supplied from a blessed oil-producing tree, that is neither eastern, nor western. Its oil is almost self-radiating; needs no fire to ignite it. Light upon light. GOD guides to His light whoever wills (to be guided). GOD thus cites the parables for the people. GOD is fully aware of all things. | ||||

[YA]: The answer of the Believers, when summoned to Allah and His Messenger, in order that He may judge between them, is no other than this: they say, "We hear and we obey": it is such as these that will attain felicity. [RK]:The only utterance of the believers, whenever invited to GOD and His messenger to judge in their affairs, is to say, "We hear and we obey." These are the winners. | ||||

[YA]: Only those are believers, who believe in Allah and His Messenger: when they are with him on a matter requiring collective action, they do not depart until they have asked for his leave; those who ask for thy leave are those who believe in Allah and His Messenger; so when they ask for thy leave, for some business of theirs, give leave to those of them whom thou wilt, and ask Allah for their forgiveness: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. [RK]:The true believers are those who believe in GOD and His messenger, and when they are with him in a community meeting, they do not leave him without permission. Those who ask permission are the ones who do believe in GOD and His messenger. If they ask your permission, in order to tend to some of their affairs, you may grant permission to whomever you wish, and ask GOD to forgive them. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful. | ||||

[YA]: Blessed is He who sent down the criterion to His servant, that it may be an admonition to all creatures;- [RK]:Most blessed is the One who revealed the Statute Book to His servant, so he can serve as a warner to the whole world. | ||||

[YA]: Say: "The (Qur'an) was sent down by Him who knows the mystery (that is) in the heavens and the earth: verily He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." [RK]:Say, "This was revealed by the One who knows the Secret in the heavens and the earth. He is Forgiving, Most Merciful." | ||||

[YA]: And they say: "What sort of a messenger is this, who eats food, and walks through the streets? Why has not an angel been sent down to him to give admonition with him? [RK]:And they said, "How come this messenger eats the food and walks in the markets? If only an angel could come down with him, to serve with him as a preacher!" | ||||

[YA]: "Or (Why) has not a treasure been bestowed on him, or why has he (not) a garden for enjoyment?" The wicked say: "Ye follow none other than a man bewitched." [RK]:Or, "If only a treasure could be given to him!" Or, "If only he could possess an orchard from which he eats!" The transgressors also said, "You are following a bewitched man." | ||||

[YA]: And when they are cast, bound together into a constricted place therein, they will pLead for destruction there and then! [RK]:And when they are thrown into it, through a narrow place, all shackled, they will declare their remorse. | ||||

[YA]: Say: "Is that best, or the eternal garden, promised to the righteous? for them, that is a reward as well as a goal (of attainment). [RK]:Say, "Is this better or the eternal Paradise that is promised for the righteous? It is their well deserved reward; a well deserved destiny." | ||||

[YA]: "For them there will be therein all that they wish for: they will dwell (there) for aye: A promise to be prayed for from thy Lord." [RK]:They get anything they wish therein, forever. This is your Lord's irrevocable promise. | ||||

[YA]: They will say: "Glory to Thee! not meet was it for us that we should take for protectors others besides Thee: But Thou didst bestow, on them and their fathers, good things (in life), until they forgot the Message: for they were a people (worthless and) lost." [RK]:They will say, "Be You glorified, it was not right for us to set up any lords beside You. But You allowed them to enjoy, together with their parents. Consequently, they disregarded the message and thus became wicked people." | ||||

[YA]: And the messengers whom We sent before thee were all (men) who ate food and walked through the streets: We have made some of you as a trial for others: will ye have patience? for Allah is One Who sees (all things). [RK]:We did not send any messengers before you who did not eat food and walk in the markets. We thus test you by each other; will you steadfastly persevere? Your Lord is Seer. | ||||

[YA]: That Day, the dominion as of right and truth, shall be (wholly) for (Allah) Most Merciful: it will be a Day of dire difficulty for the Misbelievers. [RK]:All sovereignty on that day belongs to the Most Gracious. For the disbelievers, it will be a difficult day. | ||||

[YA]: "He did lead me astray from the Message (of Allah) after it had come to me! Ah! the Evil One is but a traitor to man!" [RK]:"He has led me away from the message after it came to me. Indeed, the devil lets down his human victims." | ||||

[YA]: Those who will be gathered to Hell (prone) on their faces,- they will be in an evil plight, and, as to Path, most astray. [RK]:Those who are forcibly summoned to Hell are in the worst position; they are the farthest from the right path. | ||||

[YA]: And the (Unbelievers) must indeed have passed by the town on which was rained a shower of evil: did they not then see it (with their own eyes)? But they fear not the Resurrection. [RK]:They have passed by the community that was showered with a miserable shower (Sodom). Did they not see it? The fact is, they never believed in resurrection. | ||||

[YA]: It is He Who has created man from water: then has He established relationships of lineage and marriage: for thy Lord has power (over all things). [RK]:He is the One who created from water a human being, then made him reproduce through marriage and mating. Your Lord is Omnipotent. | ||||

[YA]: Yet do they worship, besides Allah, things that can neither profit them nor harm them: and the Misbeliever is a helper (of Evil), against his own Lord! [RK]:Yet, they still set up beside GOD idols that cannot benefit them, nor harm them. Indeed, the disbeliever is an enemy of his Lord. | ||||

[YA]: Those who say, "Our Lord! avert from us the Wrath of Hell, for its Wrath is indeed an affliction grievous,- [RK]:And they say, "Our Lord, spare us the agony of Hell; its retribution is horrendous. | ||||

[YA]: Those who, when they spend, are not extravagant and not niggardly, but hold a just (balance) between those (extremes); [RK]:When they give, they are neither extravagant nor stingy; they give in moderation. | ||||

[YA]: Unless he repents, believes, and works righteous deeds, for Allah will change the evil of such persons into good, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful, [RK]:Exempted are those who repent, believe, and lead a righteous life. GOD transforms their sins into credits. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful. | ||||

[YA]: Say (to the Rejecters): "My Lord is not uneasy because of you if ye call not on Him: But ye have indeed rejected (Him), and soon will come the inevitable (punishment)!" [RK]:Say, "You attain value at my Lord only through your worship. But if you disbelieve, you incur the inevitable consequences." | ||||

[YA]: It may be thou frettest thy soul with grief, that they do not become Believers. [RK]:You may blame yourself that they are not believers. | ||||

[YA]: But there comes not to them a newly-revealed Message from (Allah) Most Gracious, but they turn away therefrom. [RK]:Whenever a reminder from the Most Gracious comes to them, that is new, they turn away in aversion. | ||||

[YA]: They have indeed rejected (the Message): so they will know soon (enough) the truth of what they mocked at! [RK]:Since they disbelieved, they have incurred the consequences of their heedlessness. | ||||

[YA]: Verily, in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. [RK]:This should be a sufficient proof for them, but most of them are not believers. | ||||

[YA]: (Moses) said: "The Lord and Cherisher of the heavens and the earth, and all between,- if ye want to be quite sure." [RK]:He said, "The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and everything between them. You should be certain about this." | ||||
